Keep On Having Fun (5:30)

Have Fun For A Little While (4:38)

To The Limit (4:11)
Review: Although Ludovic Llorca has released albums under his other production aliases (the most recent being 2017's jazz-funk set "The Garden" under his longest-running pseudonym, Llorca), "Unbalanced" marks his first full-length outing as Art of Tones - some 13 years. While it is available digitally as one expansive work, Local Talk has decided to split the vinyl version into two parts. This first volume contains six suitably warm and fuzzy tracks, most of which are gleeful dancefloor workouts that put fun and positivity front and centre. Highlights include the disco-fired "Keep On Having Fun", the Clavinet and organ-heavy stomper "Where One Is", suitably loopy "Have Fun For A Little While" and P-funk influenced "I Can" and "To The Limit". It's all up to the Frenchman's usual high standards.

My Comfort Zone (4:25)
Radio Hustle (5:24)
Rainbow Song 2018 (5:03)
Grow (6:16)
Stand Up (6:27)
Review: There's plenty to set the pulse racing on this second vinyl selection of tracks from Ludovic Llorca's debut album as Art of Tones in some 13 years. "Unbalanced Part 2" begins with a touch of tactile, head-in-the-clouds jazz-funk (the deliciously deep and woozy "My Comfort Zone") and ends with a rush-inducing, gospel-fired peak-time sing-along (the brilliant "Stand Up"). In between, you'll find a loopy chunk of tech-tinged deep house hypnotism ("Grow"), a sample-heavy fusion of deep house, disco and jazz-funk (the warm and toasty "Radio Hustle"), and a hard-wired, club-ready revision of 2015 single "The Rainbow Song" that's as rubbery and bouncy as a tennis ball from Bootsy Collins' private stash.

Where The One Is (5:33)
Double Wheelin' (5:33)
Reprise De Fonk (5:45)
Review: "Where The One Is", the lead cut from Art of Tones' latest Local Talk release, sounds like a peak-time anthem in the making. Seemingly crafted using a mixture of cut-up Philadelphia soul samples, jammed-out new disco instrumentation and jazzy, ambidextrous house beats, it feels a little like a tooled-up, slightly more low-slung version of Blackjoy classic "Moustache". You'll find more low-slung, disco-fired, Clavinet-sporting heaviness on side B, where stomper "Double Wheelin" provides further guaranteed peak-time pressure. As for "Reprise Du Fonk", it appears to be a quick-fire dub of "Where The One Is" featuring even more elastic bass guitar, jazz-wise guitar licks and life-affirming electro piano solos.

The Rainbow Song (7:18)
The Rainbow Song (S3A Broken SSL remix) (5:40)
Review: Following a surprise outing on House of Disco, Ludovic Llorca returns to Local Talk for the first time since 2013's much played The Same Thing EP. In its' original form, The Rainbow Song is a near perfect example of Llorca's particular brand of deep house - all stretched-out chords, a bustling bassline, tough but shuffling beats, cute cowbells and bluesy vocal samples. It sounds like an underground summer anthem in waiting. There's more of a funk-flecked urgency about the excellent S3A Broken STL Remix, which introduces further vocal samples and, arguably, an even more addictive groove. Certainly, it feels a little wilder than the original, whilst retaining Llorca's unique deep house perspective.

Sean McCabe - "It's My Life" (feat Cinnamon Brown - Sean 6am dub) (6:56)
Corrado Bucci - "Atacama Desert" (5:51)
Review: Matts and Tooli take time to acknowledge that the last half a decade and a bit have been pretty successful. And they're doing so with this exclusive vinyl-only four piece that covers some of the finest corners of house music known to man. Art Of Tones gets busy on the loose drums and slappy bass, DJ Spinna puts a new twist on a classic rising hook while Sean McCabe takes us right back to Nu Yorican soul heaven. Corrado Bucci closes the book with a dusty, pensive hypnotic stomper that will have you locked in seconds. Here's to another half a decade and a bit.

Basic Knowledge (90s mix) (6:23)
Review: Hi-tech soul, spiritual life music or as he himself would name it 'ancestral soul' - there are a handful or artists who have cultivated this idiosyncratic style and Boddhi Satva is definitely one of them. The artist hailing from Central Africa weaves a seamless tapestry of African music styles throughout his life-affirming grooves that have been offered up on defining labels such as Vega, Yoruba Soul and BBE over the years. His next journey comes courtesy of Mad Mats & Tooli's Local Talk imprint out of Sweden. "Basic Knowledge" is a deeply mesmerising journey utilising rich melodies and delicate chord progressions for a truly soothing experience. We're particularly loving "Together" (main mix) on the flip, where he goes deeper into the exotic with an awe-inspiring vocal performance.

Keep Movin' (5:14)
Review: This could well be the release that turns Israeli DJ/producer Dasco into a household name within the deep house community. It's certainly her most high profile release yet thanks to its association with Mad Mats and Tooli's fine Local Talk label. There are two variations of title track "African Power": her percussive, positive and musically rich original mix, which brilliantly fuses elements of deep house, Afro-house and jazz and boasts rather lovely trumpet solos, and a dreamier, beefier Trinidadian Deep take that's every bit as summery. "Keep Movin'" is even more percussive, dreamy and spacey, while Anthony Nicholson's tasty "Mediterranian" rework effortlessly joins the dots between Latin house and deep nu-disco.

Felipe Gordon & Kear - "Son Esquivias" (7:00)
Review: The insatiable rise of Felipe Gordon continues apace. The Colombian has been in a rich vein of form over the last 18 months, chalking up must-check EPs on Quintessentials, Toy Tonics, Lost Palms, and Razor 'N' Tape Reserve. Here he adds another label to his discography: celebrated Swedish house outlet Local Talk. Title track "For A Bright & Acid Future" hits the spot from the word go, with Gordon wrapping twisted, rough-neck acid lines around a bustling backing track rich in fuzzy synth stabs, jazzy bass guitar and crunchy beats. Over on the flip Kear lends a hand on the sun-kissed, soft focus brilliance of jazz-funk/Jazz/deep Latin house fusion of "Son Esquivias", a slab of breezy, percussion-rich goodness that could well be Gordon's most musically expansive track to date.

Review: Hot on the heels of "Mission" earlier this year, Shuya Okino's Kyoto Jazz Sextet troupe present another gem from last year's Unity album complete with a remix of the highest calibre. This time the cascading, Latin rhythm and frenetic horn leads of "Rising" are given the midas dancefloor touch by none other than Ron Trent. Maintaining the wily spirit of the original while coating in warm organ blasts and subtly bumping kicks, it's a precision translation that brings the original into a whole new context.

Keep On (6:37)
Potion For Love (LA Spacefunk dub) (5:27)
Review: Local Talk is one of those super reliable house outlets that always offers up music that does the simple things well. Once again here they showcase three warm, vibey house tunes with enough character and detail to standout in any set. French multi-instrumentalist Laroye is the man at the controls here and on 'Potion For Love (Never Give It Up)' he explores warm and sultry early evening grooves peppered with Roy Ayres xylophones. 'Keep On' picks up the pace with a loose arrangement and fine sense of skip and an LA Spacefunk dub of the opener closes out with more cosmic synths.

Vick Lavender perfectly embodies the label's sound with timeless grooves and lush melodies that will make people groove at any time of day or night. The 11-plus minute opus "Shifting Gears" is a real trip in the mould of Ron Trent thanks to its spiritual synth workouts, while "Here In Spirit Sid" picks up the pace with more prickly drums but plenty of golden layers of colour that will light up your soul.

This time, however, the imprint is Local Talk, and they've decided to release the "Tiptoe" single onto glorious 7", a format which is perfect to showcase its slow, meandering waves and delightfully seductive vocals; there's a DJ Spinna remix, on top of Lawrence's magnificent single, with the experienced producer coming through smooth and effective thanks to some elegant beat-work and plenty of soulful vibes. Review: With Alexander Lay Far's latest album, How I Communicate, the epitome of a beast at 17 tracks long, Local Talk wisely chose to split up the vinyl edition into two double packs. The first one dropped back in January and we now get to savour the second helping of the best cuts from the Russian house casual's refined second album. Commencing with the Detroitian-sounding "Submerging," the six tracks here demonstrate Lay Far's talents lay beyond the confines of deep house with the wondrous Mark De Clive Lowe collaboration "Jump Higher" a towering highlight. Taking full advantage of the New Zealander's talents behind the keys, this cut finds Lay Far dabbling in a vibrant broken beat style!

This taster 12" features a sneak peak at what to expect, and is crammed full of musically expansive, organic dancefloor treats. Review: Local Talk hits the rather significant catalogue number of 100 with a forward thinking EP that stays true to its MO over the last few years. It finds MLiR aka Modern Life Is Rubbish joined by Arnau Obiols to serve up a brace of brilliant tunes that blur the lines between a myriad different dance styles. "Lajbans" is a playful, fun tune with tooting arps and cosmic melodies all married to a chugging beat that Todd Terje would be proud of. The Bellaterra dub on the flip reworks it with plenty of space echo, knob twirling effects and sci-fi atmospheres. A tidy little package.

Never Found Love (8:07)
Review: The mysterious Moondance has been receiving plenty of praise for his, her or their second EP on Local Talk, and it's easy to see why. In its' original form (B2), 'Never Find Love' sits somewhere between jazz-house, synth-heavy deep house and the kind of luscious, piano-heavy productions that Ron Trent has become famous for. Arguably even better though is the A-side 'Amen Mix', which brilliantly joins the dots between tech-jazz, early UK breakbeat house, Motor City deep house and Larry Heard style dancefloor bliss. Also worth a listen is bonus cut 'The Moon Dance (2020)', a jazz-funk-fired deep house number that's as luscious and life-affirming as it is spacey and loose-limbed. In a word: essential!

Review: Parisian Soul's new one on Local talk is a party ready EP, but one packed with well thought out sounds and rich in musicality. 'Diamant Bleu' opens with some filter house sounds before the loose rhythm section drops and carry you away on a funky groove. Horns toot in the distance, afro vocals bring a worldly feel and the whole thing is perfect organic. 'Diamant Noir' (Playing 4 The City mix) is then a jazzed up number thanks to the big sax sounds, while warped synth lines flesh things out for the club. These are positive vibes for sure.

The cryptic house maestro is back on our charts this week, but it's Local Talk who launch his two latest cuts; "Freedom" is a driving, euphoric voyage which slowly develops from angelic to deep, with plenty of tribal percussion in its midst, while "Lefty" is a much darker, moodier and altogether dub-heavy shade of house that's perfect for the later sets and those corner-dwelling head-nodders!

Review: Local Talk is a label that might be most well known for its warm and classy house output. But they have also branched out into dub with a series of special 7"s that also hit home hard. DJ Neet & Gordon Brown Jr are now back for another round following their fine first outing on the label. Once again they add their own twist in dub with plenty of modern stylings as they pay subtle homage to the earliest sounds of Ninja Tune. 'Dopewise' is a heady one for sure, with swirling pads and dubbed out vocals, oodles of tape echo and deadly bass.

Review: A little more than a year on from his first appearance on Local Talk, Philpot Records co-founder Michel "Soulphiction" Baumann returns to the much-loved Swedish imprint. Naturally he's in fine form on a loose but on-point cut that sounds like it emerged from one of Baumann's now legendary lengthy live jams. The A-side "Hi Phife Mix" of "Beehive" is loopy and hypnotic with "French Kiss" style hooks bubbling away atop seemingly non-stop machine drums. The flipside "Classic Mix" strips things back, with Baumann peppering clanky, early Chicago house style drums with a more fluid take on the now familiar hook. Best of all though is Jamie 3:26's "Windy City Bump" remix, which is the kind of sweaty and hypnotic jack attack of which his hero Ron Hardy would have approved.

The simply titled "Version" mix of that on the flip is delicious, with the Philpot founder layering expansive piano motifs and dizzying solos over skippy, U.S garage-influenced beats and a warm, toasty bassline. Arguably even better though is the fresh cut, "Niederbeat Gospel (Dub)". Living up to its title, the track is a thickset chunk of bluesy gospel house dustiness built around swinging beats, beefy bass and layered vocal samples from a crackly old gospel recording.

Review: Philpot co-founder Soulphiction has been MIA for a while now, making it an utter pleasure to have him back on our charts with some effective new house swingers. He's landed on Local Talk, one of the very best in its class, and "Bizzness" kicks off with a funky-ass bassline and some freaky vocal chops, while "Cart People" lingers at a steadier sort of tempo, filtered through mounds of dubbed-out haze. "Slow Glow" is an experiment in percussion, also meandering its wavy synths on an off-kilter mode, and "Sweet Dreams" works the drum-machine in and out of the groove, ending up with another off-balance house experiment for the deeper minds out there on the floor!

Review: Local Talk are proud to present a live recording by Soulphiction & Netzer from 2018, recorded live just a month before the official release of 'Bizzness' - the first of several releases the late great Michel Baumann and this Swedish label released together. On the first side, you have a serving of lo-slung late night mood music in the form of 'Bizzness' (live @ BIX), and over on the flip you're treated to more sensual vibes with the soul-inflected delight of 'Dileila Emergency Dub'. Real proper deep stuff for the heads.

Stevie's Groove (Soul Renegades remix) (6:37)
Review: Craig Smith and Saleem Andrew McGroarty are longtime stalwarts of jazzdance, having both been active on the scene since at least the mid 90s. They're still at it; here they team up with keyboardist Steve Christie and bassist Cameron Bradley to form Sound Signals, a hybrid live house affair set to serve only the spiciest of sonic hors d'oeuvres. First on the platter comes 'Stevie's Groove', titularly referring to the keys player who utterly owns the house A-side. Meanwhile on the B, Unlike Soul Signals, comes Soul Renegades, the longtime moniker from Craig and Ricky Reid, who deliver a spiritualized string-dub version.

Review: Sweden's Local Talk is a label that is not afraid to go beyond the classic 4/4 sound formula to explore different styles within house music. Following up some great releases by the likes of Soulphiction, S3A and Boddhi Satva, their next release is by genre pushing, London-based legend Dean 'Saint' Zepherin whose legacy goes way back to 1988 when he released "Give Me Back Your Love" under the pseudonym Boyz In Shock - which is credited as the UK's first soulful house record. The A side holds the nu-jazz flavoured soul explosion of the title track that's sure to get some great vibes happening on the dancefloor, followed by the sensual Latin flavour of "Flying High" on the flip - which is perfect for those long hot summer nights to come.
