Right On (original)
Right On (Mushrooms Project remix)
Hot Shot (original)
Hot Shot (Man Power remix)
Review: Japans 9dw release their first track for Is It Balearic..? Right On is a super chilled loopy slo mo disco gem. Touches of soft acid and boogie bassline make this a certain for the more discerning dancefloor. The Mushrooms Project remix creates an ever growing tribal dubby trip with what sounds like a jews harp thrown in for good measure. Mesmerising. The B side features a track that has been an IIB favourite for a couple of years since it was heard live in Loop Tokyo. This slowave almost out of sync techy chugger is not like anything else. Evolving with analogue synths and stabs to become a heads downs stomper. International man of mystery Man Power adds man power to the track and creates a slightly darker journey into synth land.

Meaning Of Time (Coyote Sunrise mix)
Meaning Of Time (Coyote Sunset mix)
Review: Fourth release on the occasional Is It Balearic..? offshoot IIBR Remixes series, sees label bosses Coyote take the Almunia track Meaning Of Time and add their trademark touches. Previously only available digitally the boys create two remixes on this ltd edition 10" vinyl. The Coyote Sunrise mix is sun kissed chugger, with looped vocals and layers of guitars all dancing arms aloft as the sun comes up. The Coyote Sunset Mix pushes the synth arpeggio to the front and strips the track back to push the vocals to the front. Deep soft drums take the track to an epic guitar drop. soft strings wrapping their arms round you for beautiful sunset moment

Virage (Ruf Dug extension) (8:46)
Guam (3:44)
Guam (Deep 88 remix) (6:15)
Review: IIB next release comes from French duo Baptiste & Pierre. 2 tracks of warm tropical goodness. Virage is a deep mellow afro tinged tropical workout. Muted guitar hook and nature sounds conjuring up far flung deserted beaches. Ruf dug beefs it up a touch and moves it indoors giving it a more afterhours feel. The second track has the same evocative feel as Virage with added atmospheric pads and a bouncy melody. Like a closing track on an 80's road movie. Full of emotion. Italian maestro Deep 88 creates a truly authentic slice of early ninetoes deep dreamy house. Perfectly wrapping the original in warm analogue drums. Another quality release from IIB.

Barry's K (Mushrooms Project Turkish mix) (8:31)
Tuesday Club (6:30)
Tuesday Club (Mushrooms Project Acid Line mix) (6:10)
Review: Craig Christon and Bonar Bradberry team up as Before Christ for this essential slice of brooding party fuel, leading in with the trippy, otherworldly tones of "Barry's K." From the grinding pulse of the analogue bassline to the mystical keys, it's the consummate astral traveler for DJs exploring the outer realms of the dancefloor. Mushroom Project gently rub more spaced out elements into the original, injecting a little light and letting the hits linger for longer in the ample space of their killer version. "Tuesday Club" finds Before Christ turning to a more sharp-edged rhythmic palette without losing the hypnotic qualities of their sound, before Mushroom Project return to lay down a rubbery 303 bassline that fits right in amongst the raw drum hits and dense FX processing.

1983 (Ron Basejam remix) (7:39)
Review: Often found cruising around on Music For Dreams, Bonnie & Klein sidle up to Is It Balearic? with the appropriately smooth sounds of 1983. Taking the concept of island boogie to a blissed-out, peak ideal, "1983" answers the record label question with a resounding 'yes' - this is as Balearic as it gets. Shaking up the sundown sweetness of the original, Ron Basejam is on hand deliver a remix that should get plenty of dancefloors working hard. It's still steeped in vintage sounds, but Basejam's version piles on the funk and rides a fierce disco beat to ensure the record lands in legions of record bags, as it quite rightly should.

Review: IIB's latest release is an EP from The clandestino crew. First track is a slo mo cosmic melodic acid dub. A beautiful early evening trip. This is remixed by the Beat Broker who adds a few sublime uplifting west coast sprinkles. The first track on the B side is a solid disco tinged house beauty with synth stabs subtle acid undertones claps and a great sample. The final track is Beyond the Sun. A mellow eastern tinged sundowner featuring another great sample. This EP really captures the original IIB sound and philosophy. A real gem.

Review: Ibiza legend and all round well respected industry man Chris Coco is back with more of his seaside sounds. This time his Mediterranean magic is cast over 'La Guitarra' which as the title hints has Flamenco style acoustics (from Micko Roche) with tropical house drums and heartfelt synths. There is a pair backed and delicious dub also, and then modern disco don Rune Lindbaek comes through with a mesmeric take that is laidback and lush in its design. Last of all is Daniel Braca with a Deep In Brooklyn remix thing brings some fine Latin house styles.

Dinosaur Baby (Rune Lindbaek remix)
Dinosaur Baby (Luke Solomon remix)
Review: Is It Balearic? welcome the mellow charms of Chris Coco and Camillo Miranda to lay down an unusual paean to a prehistoric love with the truly breezy drifter "Dinosaur Baby." While the tale might be a quirky one, the music is the real deal, all tumbling percussion locked into a slow, head-nodding groove, and this comes through even stronger on the "12" Dub". On the flip, Rune Lindbaek delivers a remix that fleshes the original out with laconic disco flourihes, and then Luke Solomon's version injects a little housey energy into the make up with his usual flair for off-kilter party fuel.

Review: UK duo Coyote have shaped out an entire soundworld of their own devising with their Is It Balearic? label, and they return with their fifth album in an appropriately hazy, sunkissed blur of heartfelt organic grooves that capture that elusive Ibizan dream perfectly. "Natural Way" balances subtle acid flecks with pattering percussion and soothing pads while "Herbal Remedy" cools things down to a gently finger-picked murmur. The likes of "No Time To Play" reach skywards with yearning arpeggios and rousing drum lines while "Cala Conta Sunset" makes for the perfect ambient album closer. Whichever way you turn on Song Dogs, the rich musicality and meditative atmosphere of Coyote has never sounded fresher.

Review: Some two years in the making, Glide Time is the brand new studio album from Is It Balearic..? Recordings head boys Coyote. Eight tracks deep, this album sees Ampo and Timm Sure further perfect their approach to modern Balearica, ambling from moments of incandescent calm such as the expansive opening track "California Jam" and "Feel Beautiful" to euphoria inducing cuts like the chuggy "Swimming" and acid tinged "Break On Through". Look out for the guitar playing skills of Is It Balearic...? Stalwart Max Essa too. It is indeed Time to Glide. Switch on and feel the new Balearic beat at its best.

Review: Is It Balearic finally offer up four cuts from Coyote's fantastic The Mystery Light album. First up is Dan Lissvik on the remix of 'Simpsons Sky' with its loose-limbed Balearic drum funk and tropical synth work. Then come Reverso 68 who layer in some superb arpeggiators for the silky piano sounds of sunset gem 'Copacetic.' Japanese downtempo boss Calm brings his signature mellow acid lushness to 'Outsider' and last of all Chris Massey reworks Coyote's 'Cami Sa Valeta' which was a tribute to Tony Pike. Here it is a go-slow, blissed out and cosmic star-gazer.

Review: Last year's 'Will We Ever Dance Again' 12" was a big one for Coyote who now follow it up and impress once more. First up they do so on 'Baka Re-Rub' by paying their respects to the iconic Jon da Silva remix of The FADS track. It's steamy, tropical, full of loose drum energy and jangling synths that lightened up any club. On the flip you find 'No Entry' which is a big house anthem plenty of classic tops, uplifting arpeggios and pianos, and dramatic strings next to big acid lines. It's an all out, hands in the air gem that brings the good times.

Long Board (5:35)
Review: The Is It Balearic? train just keeps on rolling as Coyote proffers up even more refined grooves from the heart of the dreamy island dance. "Deep Italian" channels the spirits of classic sensual deep house that clearly nods to the likes of Vibraphone Records for inspiration, while "Fresh Hope" creates a more bewildering experience with interloping melodies and a more insistent beat underneath. "Take Me Back" uses plucked string motifs to weave its own enchanting message, while "Long Board" gets a more plush line in synths to work to round the EP out.

Review: Coyote offer up some of their wares to the Balearic gods for this remix excursion. Hardway Brothers get two chances to exercise their dubbiest tendencies over 'Sun Culture', leaning in on the live bass and losing themselves in a swimming pool of delay for the heaviest lidders to get blissed-out to. On the flip, Woolfy and Projections face off on a version of 'Shimmer Dub' that comes on with an easy, wistful demeanour that eventually bursts to life in a rush of 80s-licked boogie abandon. 'Ranura De Marihuana' gets reworked by Max Essa, who lays the vintage synths on thick and comes up trumps.

The Mystery Light is the group's sixth album no less, and it shows their powers as producers and composers growing exponentially. The scope is broad, from laconic acid wiggles to New Age reveries, and of course with a consistent 80s flavour running throughout in so many of their production choices. It is another classy offering from Is It Balearic across two sides of proudly Balearic-influenced house music. You can picture the scenes when this will go down best - as the sun sinks into the sea in India or Croatia, with a happy and smiling crowd ready for the daytime vibes to make way for something a little naughtier. 'Will We Ever Dance Again' is pure celebratory joy, with swirling chords rising ever higher like a heat haze, then 'As Above' gets playful with squelchy acid, steely drums and a great sense of bounce.

As you'd expect from two learned heads at the helm of such a musically rich label, their own offerings are brimming with laconic grooves and heady instrumentation, ranging from the pastoral patter of "Shimmer Dub" to the folky flex of "Ranura De Marihuana". Review: Two of the UK's finest underground labels join forces and share their talent on this killer 12. From IIB we have Coyote's Sin Distracciounes, an upbeat sunkissed dancefloor meditation featuring the blissed out Flamenco guitar of long time collaborator Saro Tribastone. Futurboogie's Christophe remixes and chops up the guitar and adds some gypsymenesque organ stabs and layers of keys. Futureboogie's Felix Dickinson and Jamie Read drop the funky guitar heavy Restless People. Sublime chugging beats and a beautiful vocal refrain imploring 'Slow It Down' creating a laidback house monster. IIB's Max Essa puts his remix right in the middle of the dancefloor with straight up house vibes and extra percussion.

Well, if this isn't, then nothing is! The title should be a clue to its sentiments, paying homage to the laughing herb that is 'Marijuana' and in particular, partaking in its delights in the shade on a hot day. McGinty delivers a deep, resonant vocal and some very cool acoustic strumming, while the Coyote boys do the slow motion beat shuffling. Anthemic glory.

A whole world of influences are called up on here and then distilled into primo Komplex sounds - opener 'Quest' brings a slick 80s new wave vibe with a ragged guitar riff and splashy hits over heavy drums and under well-treated vocals. It is awash with waves of dance floor warmth then 'Never Stop' is all shimmering vocals and Japanese house chords over 80s house beats. Emotive and uplifting for sure, then ' Dzis' closes out with chugging percussion and strummed acoustic guitars. It's a heart of the dance floor gem full of love and good-time vibes.

"Melona" is a blissful dream of cascading keys and languid guitar strums, which Chris Massey then shuffles up for a snappy, funk-laced remix. Review: Is it Balearic drop a 10' slice of acid house perfection from one of the true masters of the genre in 'Foolish' Felix Dickinson! "Ousana" grows slowly over a driving house beat as warm synth pads and synth leads take the track along nicely with a subtle acid line until the bassline drops. A vocal refrain joins the groove seductively cooing 'I want to take you home' over the acid layers that develop in deeply hypnotic fashion. Straight into the basement. On the flip Coyote take the tempo down, bring out the percussion and create a Balearic acid stomper. Bleeps dubbed out vocals all swirl around the percussive rhythms then the acid line drops subtle and reminiscent of a certain acid house classic. Early doors or at the beach bar for this mix.

It's a 12" awash with warm California sun as A-side tune 'Sandee Bottoms' hats back to a golden 90s Balearic era with its loose-limbed drums and warm synth smears. Coyote offers up a sleazy dub and 'Wet Dreams' then appears on the flip. It's a more intense and busy tune with cowbells, broken house beats, steamy vocals and muted acid next to strummed acoustic riffs. Max Essa then shows his skills on a fine remix and lastly, Projection go deep and smoochy on their remix.

Twenty Types Of Dusk (5:47)
Review: IIB reach their 40th release with label stalwart Max Essa's latest EP. Feel The Machine is a proto-house groove with touches of italo-disco. Chugging bassline and cowbells making it a real dancer. Panapolean Dreamer is a more downtempo beat driven affair with eastern strings on a mellow new beat vibe. The second side starts with Tall Shadows Walking Home. Again max explores the proto house sound all smothered in lovely electronic melodies. Twenty Types Of Dusk relaxes the tempo again. Trademark Max Essa Balearic. A killer ep. to celebrate 40 12" releases.

Review: The by-now seminal Is It Balearic label welcomes long-time Balearic boss Max Essa for another superbly horizontal offering that will take you to the beach no matter where you are. He is a regular on this label who has been serving up top tunes and compiling superb collections like 2016's 10-Year Anniversary comp for ages, and the quality levels never dip. This fresh four-tracker traverses gently breaking synth waves, undulating dubby undercurrents and gloriously sun-kissed synth work all in a soothing and meditative style.

Review: Heralding brighter days is surely the job of Is It Balearic?, a label whose entire raison d'etre is silky smooth sounds for long days spent sipping cocktails on sunkissed terraces. This time around, Max Essa and Eddie C have gone head to head, with the former delivering the original tunes and the latter dropping the remixes. Essa gets into full-spectrum deep house for the baggy crowd on 'Jigsaw Moon', which Eddie C promptly pitch shifts and rubs down with some understated acid. 'Jules Y Cyntia' is a mellower offering, revelling in languid guitar, only to be gently pumped up by Eddie C with a heavy, chugging undercarriage to take you deep into the sundown.

Review: 2016 sees Coyote arrive at a decade of posing the question Is It Balearic? Replicating the compilation shaped celebrations surrounding their fifth anniversary, the landmark is noted with this fine 2CD collection. The compiling skills of Balearic chieftain Max Essa are called on for the first disc selections, with Coyote taking care of business on the second for a fine horizontally-minded celebration of all things Balearic encompassing 22 tracks. Tempos nudge back and forth, different vibes coming to the fore along the way as a dash of steel drum is replaced by forthright synth glistens and upright basslines. Legends mingle alongside future heroes, Foolish Felix and Baldelli impressing as much as Last Waltz and Clandestino. As the end nears, up pops Prins Thomas's classic Diskomiks of Downtown Party Network. Here's to another ten years Is it Balearic?

Review: Florecer steps up to the cultured Is It Balearic label with the sort of soothing downtempo sounds that are perfect for sunset moments with a quality drink. There is plenty of mellow and dreamy West Coast lushness to 'Hidden Thoughts' with its shimmering synths and seductive vocal coos while the first remix from Hitchhiker steps up the energy with an arp-ed sound. Das Complex gets dark and chugging as is his usual want on the flipside, then Cafe Del Mar resident Ken Fan offers a trademark chillout sound to close out another most calming EP from this great label.

Review: Sean Johnston has put together some righteous compadres to form a new project - The Summerisle Six. Featuring Jo Bartlett (Yellow Moon Band) on vocals, Andy Bell (Oasis and Ride amongst others) & Duncan Gray on guitars, Kev Sharkey (That Petrol Emotion, The Undertones, Elvis Costello to name a few) on percussion, Mick Somerset Ward on Sax (Clock DVA, Was Not Was, Crooked Man). This Is Something is a driving pop groover reminiscent of a late 80's early 90's Indie Dance anthem. The Dub mix invites the OG mix to ALFOS, turns the lights off and presses the smoke button for a chuggy heartwarming trip across the dance floor. There are no words to describe Rico Connings mix other than to say this 10 min journey has to be heard to be believed. A genuine Balearic gem.

Review: I-Boat Captain returns to IIB with a real gem of a tune. Major Spam is a chugging nu kraut dub disco bomb. Driving drums and relentless bassline wrapped up in swirling synths and delayed vocals. Almunia beef up the tempo and the kick, adding their trademark guitar melodies. Tiedye turn Major Spam into an big piano Balearic house monster ready for some hands in the air moments. Finally on the remix our friends up north Last Waltz create a beautiful lush disco synth chug out. The extra track on the B side Poly Punk is a slo mo acid treat. Squelching 303 underneath a delayed picked guitar and a soaring pad. Balearic acid dub style.

Review: Is It Balearic...? continues to challenge our perception of what makes the perfect island breeze jam, this time around welcoming emergent producer Kimopots to the table with a track that is just crying out for a choice cocktail in a weathered hammock. "Synthetic" is anything but, riding on a bed of hand-played percussion and capturing an innate warmth in its melodic content that feels utterly natural, even if it has been played on synthesisers. Ilija Rudman steps up with a fat old bassline and some eerie strings and chimes that make his remix a thoroughly worthwhile one, and then Robot 84 makes a more drastic turn towards peppy deep house for an audacious revision that frames the original in a whole new light.

Review: Having cruised around labels such as La Luna, Tusk Wax and most tellingly Back To The Balearics, Maricopa has already left a trail of smooth-sailing breadcrumbs behind him, and now he drops anchor in a harbour which may yet prove to be his spiritual home. 'Is It Balearic?' is a question that hardly needs to be asked when you're drifting out to sea on the blissful tones of "Benthos" or reveling in the expressive ripples of "Deer", but it's safe to say these jams would go down smooth with a Mediterranean sunset and an Aperol Spritz.

Review: Marius Circus is well known and loved for a signature analogue sound and once again that is laid out for us all to enjoy here on a new EP that comes with a remix from men of the moment Jazxing. First up is the deep, unhurried and dubbed out 'Lost On A Path To Nowhere,' a subtle late-night sound with wispy synths and a muted bassline that grows ever more prominent. The Jazxing Pathfinder remix is more tropical and steamy, and on the flip 'No Way Home' douses you in more blissed-out chords before the downbeat boogie of 'Space Crumbs Trail'. This is yet more essential summer goodness from Is It Balearic.

Review: Alongside like-minded imprints Claremont 56 and International Feel, Coyote's Is It Balearic? label - a fitting name, given the difficulty in pinpointing the Balearic sound - has been at the forefront of the nu-Balearic scene for the last five years. Here, they celebrate that fact by offering up a celebratory compilation with pal Moonboots and Coyote each selecting a disc of unmixed favourites. There's predictably plenty of sun-kissed downtempo warmth (Windsurf's sunrise-friendly remix of Coyote's "Laidback", Gavin Gordon's flamenco-influenced "El Sueno Oscuro"), alongside a smattering of deliciously baggy and wide-eyed dancefloor moments (see Max Essa's jaunty Balearic disco jam "Heartache" and a thrillingly griity Soft Rocks remix of Social Disco Club). If that wasn't enough to get the juices flowing, the collection also features some stunning unreleased material from Freshro and Khidja Looki.

Mpondo Theme
Review: Is It Balearic releases a debut EP from Clandestino's Joe Morris. 4 tracks of lush electronic grooves. The title track Golden Tides is a mid tempo houser with beautiful pads and soft arpeggios. Late afternoon sundowner vibrations. The second track Bayou has touches of Sueno Latino about it., an afterdark evocative tropical house trip. On the flip the first track Light Of The Moon is a more reflective slo mo affair. Warm pads and 808 sounds melting into cicadas. Finally we come to Mpondo Theme. Sounds of nature , Kalimba and loose percussion all sit together and watch the sun dip over the savannah horizon. A proper EP this covering all shades.

Review: NT is Nail aka Neil Holliday, one half of Bent and a master of UK tech house. But here he shows a different side across six majestically Balearic groovers. That draw on everything he has done before to send you out to sea on gentle waves of shining synth goodness, downtempo bliss and dreamy, chubby, soft focus drums. 'Beside Boa Linn' is a soothing summer sound to kick off then 'Going Out To Feel It' is a spiritual house cut for sundown, and 'Don't Hide Away' is slow motion disco brilliance. The trip continues with the star-gazing 'Evening Fixture', Eddie C style guitar licks of 'Walk In Romance' and romantic lullaby 'Dreams On Hold.'

Review: Always fun house craftsman Ali Renault secured another big tune with his 'Piano For The People' which is a chuggy groover that locks you in with its rich atmospheres. Now it gets offered up with remixes from, firstly, Aikhi, who flip it with laidback downtempo drums and some classic and well known chords. Calm then brings his Mellow Acid Dub to sink you in even further and last of all Double Geography bring some more crunchy drum textures and psyched-out synth sounds with echoing vocals and dark, late night sense of mischief.

Review: French producer Jerome Barresi assumes his Robert's Diary Palais here for a new outing on Is It Balearic that offers something a little adjacent to the norm. Opener 'Dinky Bird' is a mix of tender keys and hand claps with a soulful vocal sample that reminds of early-era Moby. Norse mainstay Bjorn Torske appears then to remix and brings some scuttling percussive sounds and watery effects over four-four drums. 'Six O Six' is a yearning dub cut packed with wild FX and 'KXP' is a zoned-out and tinny retro-future nu-disco cut that is a perfect B-side.

Review: Surprisingly, it's been some four years since Croat producer Ilija Rudman dropped his much-played debut album, The Reveal, on Bear Funk. Happily, True Colours - his first outing on Is It Balearic - sees him in fine form, joining the dots between kaleidoscopic synth-funk, rubbery dub-disco, spaced-out boogie and glassy-eyed downtempo jams. Rudman is an expert at capturing the sounds of bygone eras, usually through the use of vintage equipment, while delivering tracks that sound thoroughly fresh and original. It's this that makes True Colours such a fantastic set. Highlights are plentiful, from the close dance smoothness of "Bad Passion" and boogie dub vibes of "All The Time" (check the delay-laden hits and sweeping violins) to the jaunty electro-goes-Balearic brilliance of "Wild Guess".
