Review: It's been a while since his last EP, but this one sounds like he's nailed it again. Focused strictly on deep house with an atmospheric vibe, Brad P's new break from his earlier projects (which he put on pause after 2015), certainly shows us he is still driving in the deep house lane with first-rate keybord playing on top of his usual chord & bass-lined grooves. Previously found on labels such as Moods and Grooves, Seventh Sign, Altered Moods and Black Key, he is back as he gears up to release more of his music through his own imprint Inner Shift. All mid and slow tempo deep house lovers, get onto this.

Deep House
  1. Kayla Dream
  2. Distant Voyage
  3. Open Up Your Eyes
Review: Gene Hunt is one of the few producers from the original wave of Trax Records signees that still flies the flag for Chicago house with as much gusto as when he started. This is his second trip out on Inner Shift Music, and it finds the US house veteran on impeccable form. "Kayla Dream" is a light, airy jacker defined by amorphous synth washes that match the mellow mood of the label. "Distant Voyage" is a truly standout track though, dealing in crooked rhythmic structures and channelling the techno side of Hunt's muse. "Open Up Your Eyes" maintains the introspective mood, but this time welcomes some soulful vocal turns into the adventurous, machine-powered landscape.

  4. Fragment 7 (6:58)
Review: Jacksonville has skirted around deeper corners of the electronic music landscape for over 10 years, landing on labels as varied as Thug, Hizou Deep Rooted Music and Inner Shift. He returns to the latter with some of his most refined work to date, leading in with the snaking programming of broken beat immersion heater "Machines Of Loving Grace" before turning up the intensity with the spiritual uplift of hi-tech soul joint "Neptune 4". "Sebastopol Rd" takes things in a more explicitly house oriented direction, before "Fragment 7" beams back skywards for one more celestial trip around the sun.

  1. Red & Blue (5:11)
  2. Red & Blue (Deep Explorer remix) (7:33)
  3. Behind The Scene (5:39)
  4. Mind Games (6:52)
Review: There are nimble, rolling grooves aplenty to be enjoyed on the second drop from Mahal for Inner Shift. Of course, these grooves are framed within the context of moody, meditative soundscapes where you're as likely to hear some squalling guitar as you are spooky keys - that's certainly the case on stunning opener "Red & Blue". Deep Explorer comes on board for a remix that feeds some loose and limber breaks into the mix, which match the dusty feel of the track perfectly. "Behind The Scene" weighs in with a powerful bass presence and some classic box beats, capturing some serious Detroit-inspired energy in the process. "Mind Games" completes the record with a dreamy excursion into airy pads and submerged arpeggios to get you floating skywards.
