Review: 2016 saw the return of Flavio Folco after a near seven-year absence. As comeback singles go, the club-ready but varied A Piece of Evidence - released last July - was pretty darn strong. Here, he doffs a cap to the Detroit electro and techno records that have long provided him with inspiration. "Murder City" is a bustling, 4/4 electro shuffler blessed with alien melodies, deep space chord progressions and a dash of "braindance" style quirkiness, while "Where They From" adds toasty deep house keys to a sparse but groovy, TR-808 rhythm. On the flip, James E Johnston dons the familiar Plural alias in order to turn "Murder City" into a stomping techno workout complete with ghostly chords and buzzing bleeps.
