Cake (Suicideyear remix) (3:10)
Nectar (Mr Mitch Lights Off remix) (3:43)
OIXU (Tia Maria Producoes remix) (4:46)
Crow (Audri Nix remix) (3:13)
Review: Culled from last year's debut album Trust, this remix collection comes from artists that 18+ respect and occasionally collaborate with. Suicideyear's take on "Cake" is a dreamy, entrancing affair, with haunting electronic melodies and half-heard vocals set to push the listener into a trance. It's followed by the huge bass drops and dissected vocals of Mr Mitch's 'Light's Off' take on "Nectar", which pulls the track into melodic, atmospheric territory. The remix of "OIXU" from Principe act Tia Maria Producoes is in a similar vein thanks to its massive subs. Birds cawing, clicking thumb percussion and techno bleeps comprise the closing Audri Nix's reshape of "Crow".

Review: Indigo and Synkro return for Houndstooth duty under the Akkord guise, with HTH020 their first material for the fabric-affiliated label since last year's roundly praised debut album. That long player was perhaps the most confident display of the sound design-heavy production style the Mancunian pair had been narrowing in on since their cultish white label bow, but this new 12" finds them adding whole new levels of darkness to the mix. Moody low end sits deep in the channels; given the space to breath by Akkord who seem careful to restrict their drum samples to the barest of appearances at times (see "Gravure") whilst those out there that enjoyed the Millie + Andrea album for Modern Love will probably gravitate towards "Continuum" which showcases a murky, raw take on breakbeat-led jungle.

Title Sequence
Review: Shadowy Mancunian duo Akkord resurface with the Navigate EP which represents the latest compelling release from the Houndstooth label. With identities still very much under wraps, Akkord follow Call Super, House Of Black Lanterns and _Unsubscribe_ in releasing through the Fabric-founded Houndstooth label; the four track EP sees the duo expand on the hybrid sound first showcased on a pair of self-released 12"s that have attained something akin to cult status. A working relationship between Houndstooth and Akkord has been hinted at since news of the label first emerged, and makes perfect sense given that label A&R Rob Booth previously included the duo on his exhaustive 61 track Electronic Explorations digital compilation and affiliated 12" sampler released last year. A telling capacity for dynamic sound design is further displayed on the Navigate EP, with the first three tracks occupying a similar sonic mind space to Objekt, though "Title Sequence" trades this for some poignant respite.

Gravure/Continuum (Fis Hayfield To New Mills version) (7:01)
Gravure/Continuum (Regis Whip Hand mix) (6:08)
Review: This 12" sees the welcome vinyl edition of remixes of Akkord's "Gravure/Continuum" from Fis and Regis which originally appeared on a CD issued through Fabric's Houndstooth label earlier this year. With the Mancunian duo possessing such a clinical take on rhythmic construction; it's always interesting to see how artists commissioned to remix Akkord choose to approach the task. Sometime Tri Angle artist Fis is on impeccable form twisting the track into paganistic string-laden ambience on his self-styled 'Hayfield To New Mills' version which brings to mind "Hashshashin Chant" era Demdike Stare. Downwards boss Regis goes for gravelly broken techno on his 'Whip Hand' mix though he channels similar levels of spectral foreboding to Fis in the underlying human groans set deep in the mix.

HTH020 (The Haxan Cloak's Cloud Of Witness)
Typeface/Greyscale ((Vatican Shadow's The World Is Complete)
Review: Earlier this year Houndstooth regulars Akkord released the HTH020 EP, in which the duo took their bass-heavy sound to darker, more industrial places. It's something explored more explicitly on this remix package, which may well have two of the year's most radical tracks revisions. Tri Angle artist The Haxan Cloak delivers the epic 10-minute "Cloud of Witness" remix, taking elements from all four of the original Akkord EP's tracks, and turning them into an unclassifiable behemoth of bass, drone and strobing beats. Vatican Shadow's take on "Greyscale" and "Typeface" is a little more conventional, but nevertheless turns the two tracks into a powerful piece of techno that would demolish a dance floor in the right setting.

In Autumn Arms (Ben Pearce remix) (6:13)
Review: The debut album Guy Andrews released on Houndstooth earlier this year was a fine addition to the fabric-affiliated label, snuggling in alongside the likes of Marquis Hawkes, Vester Koza, Special Request and Aisha Devi. Given the sheer scope explored by Andrews on Our Spaces, there is plenty of room for creative reinvention so it's no surprise to see Houndstooth slip out this accompanying remix package. Andrews himself provides two VIP takes, apparently informed by the reaction he's met to performing live in recent months with the results all the more overpowering on "Higher Waters VIP" in particular. Complementing this, Max Cooper recalls the era of vintage IDM on his remix of "In Autumn Arms" with Ben Pearce opting for a more proggy 4/4 take.

Review: Two years on from their Bedouin Records-released debut 12 "Aegis", Aquarian and Deapmash once again join forces as AQXDM for a follow-up on Houndstooth. Like its' predecessor, "Infrared" is hard to pigeonhole, with the pair mixing and mangling elements of industrial, electro, techno, breakbeat, experimental electronica and IDM into a quartet of wayward, full-throttle cuts. At times, this mix-and-match approach manifests itself as giddy 21st century hardcore (the rave-tastic, sub-powered insanity of "Leisure Techno") and mutant jungle ("The Good Old Days Are Tomorrow"), while at other points what you get is a much more bleak and cinematic feel (the two A-side cuts, which are superb but tough to accurately describe).

Acephale II
Review: Depicta/Acephale II marks Call Super's third appearance on Houndstooth, and it contains what is easily some of the Berlin-based producer's fiercest tracks to date. "Depicta" features the kind of hefty 4/4 kick drums that would make Jeff Mills jealous, combining them with otherworldly pads which seem to blend into one another like ink being added to water; "Acephale II" takes a similar approach but is joined percussion that sounds like a stream of pure data travelling down a knackered copper wire. Another record to add to Call Super's flawless run of form.

Review: Best known as Call Super, Berlin-based producer JR Seaton was given the honour of inaugurating Fabric's Houndstooth label back in February with the The Present Tense EP, building on his productions for Five Easy Pieces, Throne Of Blood and Relish with a stunning EP of highly detailed techno whose rich textural approach stood out amongst an increasing ocean of industrial sounds. With Houndstooth now established as one of this year's breakthrough labels, Seaton returns with a second offering in the shape of the Black Octagons EP that further extends his grounding as one of techno's most under rated talents. Three tracks deep, Seaton demonstrates a wonderful capacity to mould eye catching productions from glistening tones and scuffed rhythms in a manner that has echoes of Actress and Terrence Dixon.

Review: Call Super's 2014 debut album for Fabric's Houndstooth label was something of a triumph; a hugely entertaining collection of off-kilter techno compositions and melodious, far-sighted deep house workouts. A year on, he returns to the label with a fine two-tracker that should cement his reputation as one of electronic music's most unique voices. A-side "Migrant" sets the tone, with dextrous, bongo-laden beats and a jaunty synth bassline underpinning rich chords and emotion-stirring melodies. Flipside "Melintu" takes a similar approach, with additional layers of bright-eyed, Detroit-inspired melodies perfectly matching his tough-but-tactile, low-end grooves.

There's some immersive high fidelity deepness to be heard on "Puppet Sense" with its booming baseline, echo laden atmospherics and futuristic sound design taking you somewhere else entirely. On the flip, "New Life Repercussions" gets a four to the floor beat on to power away beneath some tunnelling sonar aesthetics and entrancing pads to marvellous effect. Kim & The Wheel Of Life (6:19)
Aurat (tool) (2:33)
The Saviour On Spoiled Blood (4:25)
Review: Formerly working as Kate Wax, primarily for Mental Groove, Aisha Devi debuts on Houndstooth having overseen the rise of the excellent Danse Noire label. This new EP from Devi is about 'sluts, awareness, death', but also makes nods to her grandmother who passed away recently. On "Aurat (tool)", the mood is mournful and melancholic as a female vocal is covered in fragile synths, while a similar mood prevails on "The Saviour on Spilled Blood". There, a powerful bass rumbles and throbs underneath shiny, sublime melodies and eerie, almost alien-like vocal tones. However, as its title suggests, there is also a more abrasive side to Devi's approach, and this is most notable on "Kim & The Wheel of Life". There, pounding industrial breaks are mixed with tortured, high pitched Middle Eastern wails for an expression of girl power that makes most militant feminism lame by comparison.

Review: Aisha Devi's brilliant Of Matter And Spirit release from last year gets the remix treatment by a stellar cast here, merging her esoteric electronica weirdness into new hybrids. Irish duo Lakker turn "Anatomy of Light" into a freeform techno excursion with ferocious broken beats and Devi's vocals chopped and morphed into new forms. No Pain In Pop/New Ninja Tune signing Throwing Shade turn in a rendition of "Kim & The Wheel Of Life" that's ethereal as much as it is jagged and unusual. Knives associates Mind:Body:Fitness give "Mazda" a turnover that mutates it into some alien urban flavour much like their associates on Kuedo's label. Finally there's another version of the track by Bristol's Killing Sound featuring MC Rider Safique and Bogues exploring the dark side of bass music and truly exorcising the demons.

Review: Having made his name with a series of cult releases on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Marquis Hawkes now finds himself a fully-fledged member of the Houndstooth roster with Raw Materials the Berlin-based DJ and producer's second 12" for Fabric's In house label. Proceedings commence on a noticeably spartan tone with the title track, the crisp 909 groove offering forward momentum amidst a backdrop of ghostly vocals, dense bass and sad faced chords. "Ave That" is equally thick set and finds Hawkes in a more playful mood, toying around with a vocal loop as the drums rain down chaotically. "Jerk U Later" finishes off in fine Dancemania riffing fashion. More please Marquis!

Review: There's a brilliant simplicity to "When I Get Home", the lead cut from Marquis Hawkes' latest outing on Houndstooth. Built around a classic R&B vocal sample that's expertly manipulated to fit in with his crunchy, garage-influenced house beats and drowsy chords, the track has an effortless sweetness that belies its clear dancefloor punch. There are plenty of surprises elsewhere, too, with "The Witness Stand" offering an authentic tribute to the stuttering drums, tactile synths and rubbery basslines of '80s freestyle. While the storming, sweaty, Cajmere style bump of "What A Relief" is arguably the EP's most obviously floor filling moment, it's the cheery UK garage revivalism of "Sweet" that really sparkles.

Review: Fifty Fathoms Deep marks the Houndstooth debut of Dixon Avenue Basement Jams member Marquis Hawkes. Interestingly, it largely eschews his raw and distorted machine funk sound in favour of a range of far smoother and polished cuts. Opener "Can't Find a Reason" is a formidable basement house jam - a '90s-influenced chunk of synth-bass driven garage-house that comes laden with cut-up vocal snippets and exotic melodies. Steve Downes collaboration "The Way" sounds like vintage Mr Fingers, while "Fifty Fathoms" fuses twinkling piano melodies and drifting vocal samples with a shuffling deep house rhythm. Finally, "Fat Man" draws influences from vintage '80s electro and synth-funk, melding them into a squidgy house groover.

Review: Big Marquis Hawkes cranks up the expectation for his forthcoming debut album, Social Housing, with this 12" that features one of the stand out tracks. As one of THE voices of house music, Jocelyn Brown fairly stamps her mark on "I'm So Glad" with the skippy, classicist US-style production from Hawkes clearly paying homage to some of the classics she's previously made so special. The lead club mix is about as punchy as a house track you can want, whilst the flip features a dub take from Hawkes that allow him further room to pay homage to the US house sound whilst fans of redlining acid bangers will delight in the closing "Satisfied Raw Mix".

Review: Following on from the Kill The Lights LP on the ever-swelling Houndstooth imprint, King Cannibal's House Of Black Lanterns project drops a single from the album to stand on its own two feet. "You, Me, Metropolis" is an urgent, juke-fuelled prowler that lays the dystopian future shock on heavy through epic synth strokes, wielding the urgent rhythm of the drum patterns with the same forward-motion as Kuedo did on his LP. Meanwhile "Broken" gets a reworking from Unsubscribe, turning out an oppressive electro house interpretation that wouldn't sound out of place on Dave Clarke's World Service mix, and Breakage turns "Shot You Down" into a big room monster. Bringing the release full circle, "Worthless" is an original cut that sees more of that soothsayer footwork business tricking its way out of the speakers.

Ghettozoid - "Toy Boy" (House Of Black Lanterns remix)
Review: This second release on Fabric's new in-house label Houndstooth demonstrate they plan to be much more than an Ostgut Ton clone. House Of Black Lanterns is Dylan Richards, a Berlin based musician with previous form as King Cannibal, whose dark, industrial edged combination of D&B and dancehall saw a string of releases on Ninja Tune in 2009. This new project looks to be something quite different however; "Truth & Loss" sees bombastic sci-fi vistas held together with Autonomic style rhythms and footwork-inspired snares, while "Like A Warrior" pairs Juakali's vocals alongside a dubstep style instrumental with an early Skull Disco vibe. In the remix corner, Fracture reworks the title track into an bleak, dystopian D&B roller, while House Of Black Lanterns remixes a track called "Boy Toy" by the little known producer Ghettozoid, who has previously collaborated with Richards.

Review: London-based Vester Koza makes the move from Maslo to Houndstooth. It's a shred signing by the Fabric-backed label, as "OT_R~cord" shows. Fusing glitchy elements with early 90s Warp melodies, it's a twitchy but entertaining affair. "Robocow Exe" is cut from the same glitchy, low-tempo sources, although on this occasion, it feels like Koza is drawing on jazz influences. "Served_On_Barm" sees the upcoming producer create a mysterious dub odyssey, where eerie textures flow and ebb, while closing out this release is the understated, reflective minimalism of "Zrtp (P-Bass Special)", which sounds like Akufen on downers.

The Danish artist has does so primary as a DJ who is not afford to reach for rave, electro, whatever she needs to keep things bumping. As a producer she is in a fine run of form, too, and this Houndstooth 12' is another fine outing. There is a restless energy to opener 'Volshebno' with its flat footed drums and edgy synth loops, while 'Voice Within' ducks and dives on a warmer far-sighted deep techno rhythm. The closer is an alternative version of 'Volshebno' that becomes a monstrous breakbeat banger with jungle energy and epic synth work.

"Layer Lock" is a daring step on from the nagging acrobatics of the album, heading into the kind of rhythms that would get Autechre tapping their approval. Luke Vibert meanwhile brings his cheery attitude to "One Sound" with a rude, heavy-stepping bass buster loaded with his usual array of lairy samples. Cristian Vogel meanwhile takes "Layer Lock" into a tense, stripped down headspace populated with earthy percussion and interlocking patterns, rising to the psychedelic nature of the source material in a most intriguing way.

Review: Some seven months into the year and Houndstooth have really established themselves, overseeing a varied release schedule that's beginning to take on juggernaut-esque proportions. The Margosa Heights EP sees another high profile producer join the fold in the shape of Bristolian Alec Storey, best known for his singular line of electro and breakbeat informed bass music as Al Tourettes. Joining Houndstooth has allowed Storey the chance to draw the line under the first phase of his production career, with the introduction of the appropriately named Second Storey moniker. Like fellow Houndstooth artist House Of Black Lanterns - who was formerly known as King Cannibal - Storey's output under this new name sees something of a shift in style, one that fits in nicely with Houndstooth's focus on genre-bending artists. Although still noticeably twitchy, the forthcoming four-track Margosa Heights EP is considerably fuller and larger in scale than that of Al Tourettes; the modular gurgles of opener "Arpy Gargles" givie way to a sweeping bass vista, "Still Seas / Just Mortal" are filled with the kind of bass wobbles worthy of Objekt's "Cactus", and "Hebridean Mind Tours" displays an undeniably sprawling cinematic quality.

Review: Under the Second Story alias, Alex Storey has always been good at joining the dots between vintage electro, Rephlex-style braindance, IDM and modern British bass music. He's at it again on this latest EP for longtime home Houndstooth. So, while "Grand Rapid" rattles along at a ghetto-tech pace, its' sub-bass pulse and intergalactic textures recall Drexciya at their robust best. These electro influences come to the fore on the shimmering, starburst strut of "Bismuth" and deliciously saucer-eyed "Vapor Valve", while "Helicat" packs more Star Wars-inspired funk into its' too-short duration than many would think humanly possible.

Abandoned Hands (DVA Damas remix) (9:20)
SBFM (5:29)
SBFM (Factory Floor remix) (8:53)
Review:  Having previously surfaced on Optimo back in 2014, Shift Work now sidle over to Houndstooth with their crafty take on a modern kind of electro house. "Abandoned Hands" shakes and quivers with chunky bassline synths and fragmented vocals, powered by a technoid urgency and peppered with industrial noise flairs. "SBFM" meanwhile gets into a more edgy mindset with its nagging arpeggio, setting up Factory Floor perfectly for a remix which actually ends up pirouetting into a cyclical slice of abstract techno. DVA Damas meanwhile remixes "Abandoned Hands" and turns it into a slow-creeping pressure cooker of unreleased tension.

Halo Heart (Asher Levitas remix)
Review: With a name that nods to My Bloody Valentine it's not surprising to hear a whisper of shoegaze sneaking into this debut single from Soft As Snow. As the latest signing to Houndstooth this release sits comfortably next to the gothic tinges of Snow Ghost, with vocalist Oda Egjar Starheim calling to mind Karin Dreijer Andersson of The Knife and Fever Ray fame. There's a canny mixture of noirish pop and expansive electronica, with the duo unafraid to embrace snappy time signature changes and bombastic choruses in amidst the more subtle elements of their sound. With five distinctive songs to announce themselves in addition to a remix from Old Apparatus alumni Asher Levitas, Glass Body is a powerful debut for an act set to tear up festival circuits in the near future.

Halo Heart (Lucy remix)
All Our Beasts (Gang Gang Dance Brian Degrew remix)
Glass Body (Factory Floor Gabe Gurnsey remix)
Black Birds (Maria Minerva rework)
Review: Breaking through this summer with their debut EP Glass Body, the cosmic wall-of-sound duo SAS now undergo some drastic remix treatments to the point the tracks are almost unrecognisable. The ethereal cries of "Halo Heart" are subverted into a mid 90s techno/prog roller by Lucy and the densely textured elements of "All Our Beasts" are underpinned by Gang Gang Dance's quirky bleep breaks twist. Further on the muffled, barbed euphoria of "Glass Body" gets a complete acid attack from Gabe Gurnsey while "Black Birds" gets the subtlest reversion by Maria Minerva as the vocal is maintained as the centre stage focus, and the beats and loopy hook give the track more dancefloor appeal.

Curtain Twitcher (Nina Kraviz Alice Was Here remix) (8:00)
Curtain Twitcher (Nina Kraviz Samba version) (5:00)
Looking Glass (5:44)
Tiresias (Anastasia Kristensen rework) (7:32)
Review: Unsurprisingly, Paul Woolford's Special Request project has become a reference point for London's Houndstooth imprint, the label ran and operated by Fabric, and he's back once more to drop the freshest techno sounds around. What makes this 12" even more special is a two-part appearance from Nina Kraviz, who remixes "Curtain Twitcher" twice, the first being a moody, hubby techno experiment and the second a more light-hearted 'Samba version' that carries the same sort of future-minimalism that says so much with so little. On the flip, "Looking Glass" is a heavy-handed, bad-mannered jungle experiment that lays down an insanely heavy groove of banging breaks sparse bleeps; Anastasia Kristensen's rework of "Tiresias" thrashes out a punitive techno bullet that, once again, is made for a contemporary techno floor.

Wall To Wall
Mindwash (Anthony Naples Eternal mix)
Broken Dreams
Capsules (Lee Gamble mix)
Review: Special Request was launched in earnest in March of last year by Woolford as a creative outlet for "vinyl only releases with no boundaries", and has drawn from a palette of booming basslines and expertly edited classic rave breaks across the four 12" releases thus far. The Hardcore EP sees him stepping up to Fabric's Houndstooth label in advance of a full album later this year, and it's just as rude as the material thus far; "Wall To Wall" sees Woolford adopting a techno framework, with evil vocal samples rattling between heavy, bouncing kicks, and "Broken Dreams" sees more rambunctious jungle, with heavily filtered breaks and clattering snare rolls tethered to a hardcore bassline. The remixes don't mess about either; Anthony Naples turns in a spectral remix of "Mindwash" that keeps the rhythmic ferocity but somehow makes it maudlin and downbeat, while Lee Gamble reworks "Capsules" in a highly experimental, tripped out end of the night style. Big recommendation on this one...

Real (Peder Mannerfelt remix) (5:26)
Review: Paul Woolford returns with more cross-genre antics with a strong nod to the past, yet with a firm foot in the present on his new stomper for Houndstooth. The explosive title track will take you back to an NYC Storm Rave circa '94, full of Joey Beltram style hoovers and fierce breakbeats. Breakneck acid electro cut "Emutraxx" blows the bloody doors off, in the vein on Air Liquide or Jammin Unit. For a change of pace you can try the wonky slow burner "No Phone Calls" fuelled by a druggy 303 drawl and a lazy 4/4 beat, while Scandinavian noise terror Peder Mannerfelt works his magic as always on his jagged and angular remix of "Real": it's real brooding, you've been warned!
