Melvo Baptiste - "Sweat" (feat Dames Brown) (6:09)
Lovebirds - "Burn It Down" (club mix) (7:42)
Art Of Tones & Inaya Day - "Give My Love" (6:22)
Young Pulse & Fleur De Mur - "Smooth Sweet Talker" (6:53)
Review: Get yourself geared up for festival season with some fierce party starters certified with the Glitterbox stamp. Melvo Baptiste leads the charge with 'Sweat', a sizzling disco house stomper with Dames Brown giving the biggest diva energy on her show-stopping vocal. Lovebirds bring unbridled joy on the Philly string swoon and slinky b-line funk of 'Burn It Down', while Art Of Tones & Inaya Day keep it peak time on the sassy strutter 'Give My Love'. Young Pulse & Fleur De Mur complete the set with 'Smooth Sweet Talker', another bright and bold vocal cut par excellence.

Riva Starr - "How It Feels" (5:44)
Shakedown & Bootsy Collins - "Funky & You Know It" (Shakedown Work That Mother mix) (5:34)
Review: Defected's colourful and diverse Glitterbox party has been a real success story in recent years and the label embodies that with a great representation of the sorts of sounds you will hear at the party. It's all about full throttle, emotionally intense house, soul and disco and that is exactly the case on Melvo Baptiste's opener 'Gonna Be Alright' (feat Jamie 3:26 & Annette Bowen) with its big diva vocals, piano stabs and hand claps. Mousse T keeps it silky and funky on the feel good 'Take It Back' and Riva Starr brings the swing to 'How It Feels'. Shakedown & Bootsy Collins's 'Funky & You Know It' (Shakedown Work That Mother mix) is a nice sleazy ass-shaker to close.

Sticks & Stonez & Liv East - "You're My" (12" edit) (5:43)
Review: Defected's Glitterbox off shoot is all about those classic cosmic sounds and OG disco deliciousness. The third volume of veritable Glitterbox Jams is another dazzling one with Melvo Baptiste opening up on a nice smoochy and smooth groove with sleek bass and vocals that immediately pull you in. Yusek then steps up with a remix that is more about dance floor heat, with ducking and diving bass and bigger everything - claps, vocals and stabs. Aeroplane then pull back to a slinky, cheeky vibe with catchy hooks and last of all is Sticks & Stonez & Liv East, a dreamy tune with a balmy mood.

Review: Melvo Baptiste has been a big part of the Glitterbox story to date. He's not only a regular behind the decks at the Defected-own disco brand's parties in New York, Amsterdam, London and Ibiza but also mixed their "This Ain't No Disco" compilation earlier in the year. Here he serves up another cheery, party-starting three-disc mix that gleefully joins the dots between original disco and boogie (see killer cuts by the Emotions, Advance and Lee Curtiss), recent remixes of vintage dancefloor cuts, and the cream of the current nu-disco and disco-house crop. It's a familiar formula but one that Baptiste gets the best from, in no small doubt due to a mix of flawless mixing, superb tune selection and a love of life-affirming, vocal-laden songs.

Review: Fittingly, the latest compilation from Defected's phenomenally successful disco offshoot, Glitterbox, has been mixed by the man who has been making their Ibiza parties move for the last few years, Melvo Baptiste. Over the course of three hugely entertaining discs, Baptiste effortlessly joins the dots between original '70s and '80s disco and boogie, modern nu-disco hits, disco house and the kind of soulful and groovy 21st century cuts that fit somewhere in between. As you'd expect from an experienced and inventive DJ, Baptiste also showcases his love of overlaying familiar vocal acappellas, while the highlight-heavy tracklist contains a superb blend of classics, lesser-known hits and up-front future hits.

The glorious Defected affiliated label land party Glitterbox continues to bring back some of the colour, gloss and glamour that made early house and disco so great with this second edition of their Hotter Than Fire series. Melvo Baptiste once again selects a load of fantastic tracks that brim with soul, diva vocals and timeless basslines. Highlights are plentiful throughout, but our picks of the bunch are "Chic Mystique" awashed with serious 90s New York vibes, all out Soul Train groover "Gotta Keep On Trying" by Tenderness and Jungle Brothers who bring some of their street wise hip house styles to the throwback "What 'U' Waitin' 4?".

Review: Casbah 73 makes his Glitterbox Recordings debut here with a slice of disco so funky and soulful that you will not be able to get it out of your heart or head. The big vocal hook is what drives the whole tune forward and is from Angela Goode, who sounds utterly timeless. Although it's a brand new tune it drips with that 70s authenticity and comes with a Percussion Jam, noodling remix from Body & Soul man Danny Krivit who draws out the breaks, and then a more steamy and freeform version from Rahaan who makes more of the jazzy keys.

I Feel Your Love Comin' On (Dimitri From Paris instrumental) (8:20)
Review: It was 2010 when Dimitri From Paris first got his hands on the parts to some of Chic's biggest hits, with some of the resultant revisions appearing on an expansive "Chic Organization" box-set. Glitterbox has been reissuing them all over a series of 12" singles, with this volume boasting the Parisian's vocal and instrumental versions of both "My Forbidden Lover" and "I Feel Your Love Comin' On". The latter is a deliciously dubbed out affair that pushes the track's heavy electrofunk-meets-disco-funk groove to the fore, with flashes of Nile Rodgers' razor-sharp guitar riffs and echoing vocal snippets rising and falling throughout the mix. It's the versions of "My Forbidden Lover", complete with stunning orchestral breakdowns and extended instrumental breaks, that really set the pulse racing, though.

Review: In general, we'd say it was unwise to tamper with Chic & Sister Sledge back catalogue, especially such stone cold classics as "Thinking of You" and "Le Freak". That said Dimitri From Paris has a brilliant track record when it comes to breathing new life into familiar favourites and there's no doubt that he's hit the mark once again here. On the A-side, the veteran Frenchman stretches out "Thinking of You", subtly extending it using the multi-track parts, first for a sing-along, end-of-night vocal version and then a tasty instrumental take. On the flip, he tries the same with "Le Freak", brilliantly building up the action in layers before unleashing one of the most famous grooves of all time. Guaranteed dancefloor gold.

Review: Absolutely massive package of disco gold from the man like Dimitri here as he's entrusted with the master tapes of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards' most iconic and influential songs and told to do his unmistakable thang. From the original Chic materials to Sister Sledge via Norma Jean Wright, Dimitri takes the blueprint that founded every dance beat that's followed in the last 40 years and gives them a just polish, slight extension and just that little bit of extra dancefloor spice for today's floors. Perfect for everything from home listening to massive arena gigs.

For this project, Dimitri was entrusted with the original studio masters so alongside the much loved essentials remastered here are remixes and previously unreleased instrumentals. Through disco grooves and meticulously reverent production, this album is a demonstration of how captivating orchestral music can be as compared to today's computer generated offerings - and all this is the work of one Frenchman's golden touch!

Review: There are very few editors who could give Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards revisions respectful enough to release but Dimitri From Paris most definitely has the credentials and class. As proved by last year's Chic Remix album on which 10 of Rodgers & Edwards got the precision Parisian kiss. Here are two of the many highlights in full 12" form. Krystal Davis is perhaps not one of the disco and boogie era's better-known vocalists. She acted as a backing singer for a number of bands, Dazzle being the best known, and released just three singles. Of these, it's 1985 debut "So Smooth" - a loose, soulful and summery, Freestyle-era boogie jam - that's the most sought-after. This brand new Glitterbox edition partners the original vocal and instrumental versions with two brand new remixes. KON leads the charge with a rolling version that feels more energetic and peak-time friendly, largely as a result of more emphasis on the killer bassline and some house-friendly new beats. On the flip, Yam Who highlights the track's inherent breeziness, pushing the fluttering synth motifs to the fore while also adding a thrillingly dreamy new intro.

Review: Defected's disco-minded Glitterbox offshoot has decided to dip a toe into the choppy waters (sorry) of the re-edit scene. The man at the control is fun-time rework specialist Dr Packer, an Australian scalpel specialist who has spent the last few years contributing tidy edits to a variety of well-regarded labels. First, he adds a little late '80s house shuffle to a soul-fired, boogie-era disco classic, before turning the equally familiar "Still in Love" into a bouncy, club-ready chunk of disco-house full of swirling strings and Chic-style guitars. On the flip the good doctor gets his hands a much-sampled electrofunk workout, retaining the drum delays while adding a touch of nu-disco swagger, before brilliantly dubbing out and tooling up the synth-heavy swagger of 1985 hit "I'll Be Good".

Gliding us through time to soulful house's golden era with a sassy, loose groove shine to each edit; Soulsearcher's 96 anthem "Can't Get Enough!" gets respectfully plumped, Shapeshifter's 2003 sing-along bomb "Lola's Theme" is stripped back to a stark funk groove while Johnny Corporate's 2000 hit "Sunday Shoutin'" gets flipped into slinky bassline wriggler. Finally one of the best covers Stevie Wonder has ever had gets a luxurious rub down as Cleptomaniacs' 2000 swoon-fest enjoys the full Packer treatment. Summer starts here.

Aussie remix king Dr Packer is now Defected offshoot Glitterbox's go-to man when it comes to re-shaping and revising classic cuts. There's a reason for that of course, namely that he understands dancefloor dynamics and is an expert at adding just the right of easy-to-mix house flavour to records old and new. "Different Strokes Volume 2" gathers together 12 previously unreleased reworks from the Perth-based producer. There are some terrific, disco-tinged revisions on show, with our highlights including his interpretations of Jean Jacques Smoothie's early noughties gem "2People", Hardsoul and Ron Carroll's soulful house anthem "Back Together", Reel People's new-boogie cover of Thelma Houston gem "You Used To Hold Me So Tight" and the 21st century disco anthem that is Horse Meat Disco's"Let's Go Dancing".

Review: It would be fair to say that Glitterbox loves Dr Packer. Since the Defected offshoot launched, its executives have made the Aussie re-editor and remixer their go-to man for new versions of classic cuts old and new. They continue that trend with "Different Strokes Volume 2", a double-disc set of remixes from the Perth-based producer featuring soaring, soulful, disco-fired versions of tracks from the Defected and Glitterbox vaults. Interestingly, this time round he's got to work on far more house cuts than disco ones, delivering sumptuous, headline-grabbing reworks of classic cuts by Hardsoul and Ron Carroll, ATFC, Reel People, Fish Go Deep and Soulsearcher, as well as recent disco outings by Aeroplane, Horse Meat Disco and Shapeshifters.

Review: Earlier this year, Defected offshoot Glitterbox Recordings delivered its first documentary, Where Love Lives, a loving tribute to the power of "dancefloor expression and liberation" which was filmed over 18 months in Paris, Ibiza, New York and London. This expansive three-disc set showcases cuts from the film's soundtrack, with Defected boss Simon Dunmore and Glitterbox A&R chief Seamus Haji acting as curators. The 52-track set is little less than a whirlwind tour of revivalist disco, nu-disco and modern boogie, with reworks of classic cuts sitting side by side with celebrated contemporary cuts and future classics - all rippling with a mixture of squelchy basslines, electrofunk synths, sweeping disco orchestration, crunchy cowbells, fluid piano solos and heady, life-affirming vocals. If you dig disco, you'll definitely dig this.

Review: Escort's 'Cocaine Blues' is undoubtedly a 21st century disco classic -a peak-time ready riff on Dillinger's 'Cocaine in the Brain' and People's Choice's 'Do It Anyway You Wanna' that has been a mainstay in DJ sets for the last 12 years. These fresh versions do a decent job breathing new life into a familiar favourite. John Morales does a good job of joining the dots between disco and house on his EP opening multi-track remix, while band-member JKriv adds a little more weight and spacey synth noises aplenty on his similarly fine rework. Sheffield's Crooked Man take over on side B, first delivering a pitched-down revision blessed with jangling piano stabs ('Crooked Line 1'), before reaching for the squelchy synths and trippy noises on a slightly wilder take ('Crooked Line 2').

Review: Third time around for Escort's effervescent 2010 anthem 'Cocaine Blues', a superb disco translation of Dillinger classic 'Cocaine in the Brain'. This Glitterbox reissue places the original version - a sing-along, string-laden, synth-sporting roller that remains Escort's most triumphant moment (and that's saying something) - on side A, alongside the band's superb instrumental mix, which has previously never been released on wax. Over on the flip there's a chance to once again savour Greg Wilson's epic, near 10-minute remix, a Tom Moulton style multi-track re-edit that rises and falls in waves and rightly emphasises the track's core groove.

Carolyn Harding's "Strength" originally came out in 2003 on Yellow Productions, and it was a certifiable bomb back then thanks in no small part to the fierce, finely sculpted disco funk production from Freeform Five's Anu Pillai. It's big budget house music that draws on all the best qualities of foundational dance music, but most importantly keeps the heart and soul front and centre. What better track to reissue in summer months, whether you're on the dancefloor or forced to vibe at home? The remixes on this Glitterbox missive come from equally gifted premier league artists like The Shapeshifters and JKriv, but in truth the Freeform "Reform" and attendant instrumental are crucial enough on their own to grab this work of dancefloor art.

The Way You Love Me (Dim TSOP version - Dimitri From Paris Glitterbox retouch) (8:14)
The Way You Love Me (Tom Moulton Philly Re-Grooved remix) (12:54)
Review: Some may argue that Dimitri From Paris and Tom Moulton have already provided the definitive remixes of Ron Hall, the Muthafunkaz and Marc Evans' 2006 gem "The Way You Love Me". This Glitterbox 12", which features alternative versions of those two legendary reworks, proves that they're wrong. Dimitri's "Glitterbox Retouch" of his Philadelphia International-inspired TSOP Version is a little more focused and tightly edited than its predecessor, but naturally incredibly similar. It's Moulton's "Philly Regrooved Mix", though, that's the real stunner. A near perfect example of Moulton's classic mixing skills, it sees the original disco mixer give space to each instrumental solo before unleashing the now oh-so-familiar vocal. The result is 13 minutes of unashamed disco bliss.

Review: Horse Meat Disco have struck gold a few times over the past 12 months, and their latest single - this time featuring old pal Amy Douglas in the featured singer role and back-up vocals from Detroit trio Dames Brown - is another storming success. This time round, there's a little more elastic funkiness and gospel-influenced instrumentation amongst the quartet's usual good-time disco grooves. Danny Krivit's EP-opening "Extended Edit" is our pick of a strong bunch, though the beat-free, vocal and strings-heavy "Key-A-Pella" is also superb. Elsewhere, the "Michelle Mix Extended" sits somewhere between organic house and rolling disco, while the Kelly G Deeper Message Groove brilliantly re-imagines the track as a sumptuously rich slab of ultra-deep soulful house.

Review: Defected's throwback label Glitterbox continues to take us back to better, more camp and inclusive times with another belting disco single. This one is from the one and only Horse Meat Disco crew, who are one of the UK's most colourful and expressive outfits and always serve up impassioned sounds. 'Love If You Need It' is a big-hearted, glossy disco with star-studded production and a perfectly lush vocal. There are two big Mousse T remixes as well as a low slung rework from Mr Packer, who has his own fine album on the way. The pop-leaning, hip-swinging original will take some beating, though.

Review: Horse Meat Disco has been promising a debut album for some time, but there are now signs that it might, at last, be on its way. Here they present their second high-profile single for Glitterbox - a superb collaboration with legendary disco vocalist Kathy Sledge. In its original form, "Falling Deep In Love" is the kind of groovy, string-laden, sing-along disco treat that sounds like it could have been written and produced by Chic greats Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. It's utterly ace, all told, and deserves to be one of the tracks of the summer. On the flip, Joey Negro offers up a "Disco Blend" that combines the quartet's original instrumentation and Sledge's fine vocal with slightly more weighty, house-style drums.

Stepping up on the a-side is the master of the mix, EQer extraordinaire and founder of the legendary Body & Soul party, Joe Claussell. His remix is perfect for said New York party with its loose percussion, big string stabs and relentless disco drums. Cratebug strips things back to a more functional and contemporary club track that builds in layers, with subtle filters bringing the tension until finally he lets the groove drop, no doubt to devastating scenes on the dance floor.

"Don't You Want My Love", an energy-packed, orchestral disco smasher originally released in 1979 to promote the singer's debut album, is also up there with the best of her output. Here, the Paul Sabu produced original version gets the reissue treatment by Defected offshoot Glitterbox. Sabu's original club-length version sits astride the A-side, with Dimitri From Paris providing a "classic re-edit" on the flipside. His version sticks fairly close to the original, offering necessary nips and tucks here and there whilst steering clear of contemporary production trickery. Naturally, it's a rock solid rework from a true master of the scalpel rearrangement.

Don't You Want My Love (Cratebug More Love remix) (9:06)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

Defected's fabulous Glitterbox off-shoot has thankfully repressed these two fist pumping disco remixes of Debbie Jacobs' classic "Don't You Want My Love".

You Got Something Special (instrumental) (5:43)
Review: Glitterbox and Defected big cheese Simon Dunmore has long been a fan of Lemelle's 1982 boogie killer "You Got Something Special", and it was reportedly his idea to reissue the track. It was - as ever from Dunmore - a smart move. In its original form (track two), the cut is a near perfect example of soulful, club-ready boogie - all sparkling electronic melodies, loose drum machine beats, eyes-closed guitar motifs, synth-bass and sing-along vocals. This time round, it comes accompanied by the original flipside Instrumental Mix and two fresh revisions. On the A-side you'll find a sweaty, tooled-up edit from Aussie scalpel scene stalwart Dr Packer that drags the track further towards boogie-house territory, while the B-side boasts a more traditional (and reverential) re-edit from KON.

Review: Story has it that when Glitterbox chief Simon Dunmore heard Horse Meat Disco drop "The Spirit" at his party in Ibiza last summer, he immediately needed to know where and who the track came from. Matthew Ward aka Mighty Mouse was the man responsible, he of Cheaper Thrills and Mindless Boogie fame. The funked-up disco groove of the original is supported by remixes by Frenchman Yuksek (Partyfine/ Razor-N-Tape) who takes the track down a sexy, late- night deep house route and then, most surprisingly, by UK techno veteran Mark Broom who delivers not one, but two renditions. It's definitely all about the bangin' cyclicality of his "Let's Talk Extended Remix" - which will mix into any Robert Hood/Floorplan tracks nicely.

Review: Almost a quarter century into his recording career, Mousse T has not lost his ability to create party-starting anthems, even if he's consciously moved away from the heavily compressed, filter-happy disco-house sound of old. "Rock The Mic" - his first release for Defected's revivalist disco offshoot Glitterbox - sounds like an anthem in the making; a cheery disco beast built around live-sounding drums, simmering strings and Plantlife style, P-funk-inspired hip-house vocals. The accompanying remixes come from dusty-fingered crate digger turned disco don Kon. As well as a warm "Remix" rich in warm electric piano riffs and authentic disco instrumentation, the Brooklyn producer also serves up a fine Instrumental take and a handy Acapella.

Review: You know what you are going to get when you see the Glitterbox label - big, timeless tunes that are designed to get glamorous dance efforts in a spin. Glitterbox Jams Volume 4 is another fine assemblage of such sounds, with Moplen opening up with an edit of 'Love Will Be Our Guide' that is built on train track drums and fleshed out with magnificent horns, strings and synths. The Dr Packer remix is only a slight touch up then on the flip Aeroplane offer up an old school electro-boogie mix of 'Armaghetton' that sure is fun. Flush's 'Come Back Baby' closes in romantic vocal house fashion.

Review: Given their association with the label over the last few years, it seems fitting that the first artist album on Glitterbox should come from Qwestlife, a disco, boogie and jazz-funk loving duo made up on Andy "Yam Who?" Williams and pal Tom Laroye. "Prophecy" was made with a gaggle of guest musicians and vocalists (think Andre Espeut, Jacqui George, Lady Z and Bobby Saint) and features a slick, retro-futurist blend of original tracks and covers of well-loved but largely overlooked disco classics. The result is a brilliant played and produced set that joyously flits between revivalist disco-soul, synth-heavy boogie, slick nu-disco and jazz-funk. Perhaps the most extraordinary cut is "Fever", a superb chunk of disco-rap featuring none other than Sugarhill Gang and Furious Five members Melle Mel and Scorpio.

Give Me A Minute (dubbed Out version) (7:08)
Give Me A Minute (bonus beats) (4:37)
Review: This surprise single from boogie band Qwestlife has a lot going for it. For starters, it's a fabulously catchy song, with the kind of chorus that you'll find yourself singing in the shower for days to come. Coupled with the boogie-era authenticity of the instrumentation (think D'Train synth squiggles, cowbells, heavy synth bass, and so on) and production, it's an almost perfect chunk of electrofunk revivalism that steers clear of "hollow tribute" territory. Happily, the alternative mixes - particularly the "Dubbed Out Version" - are also in keeping with the band's early '80s New York inspirations. In fact, both that mix and the tidy "Bonus Beats" versions sound like they could have been the work of original boogie-dub maestros Paul Simpson (Serious Intention) and Winston Jones (Pushe); we can't think of much higher praise than that.

Review: Defected offshoot Glitterbox is a label that embodies the old school spirit of early house and disco - polysexual, positive and hugely expressive. The latest single is another testament to that with majestic producer Qwestlife serving up a perfect fusion of disco lushness, house groove and funk bass on "Fever". Add in hip swinging claps, Grammy winner Siedah Garrett's vocals, a sprinkling of Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Melle Mel and you have a real bobby dazzler. Deep digging disco don Kon serves up a joyous remix as well as a beatless reprise for DJ trickery.
