Review: MAW remixes of a Stone Cold classic.

Review: Bizarre though it may seem, Modest Mouse formed twenty-two years ago, and moreover it's been seven years since their last album. However, 'Strangers To Ourselves' is proof positive that this American indie institution has shown no signs of complacency in the interim. Possessed of all the restless spirit, edgy guitar interplay and highly-strung intensity that have become this band's trademarks, it's also notable for a heartfelt environmental theme. Elegantly eccentric widescreen anthems advise against a potential dystopia. Yet elsewhere, tackling disco, hip-hop and balladic styles with aplomb, this unique and endlessly inventive outfit - newly reinvigorated - have rarely sounded so alive.

Review: Four years on from his second album, 2, Hospital's go-to Belgian bass connoisseur Netsky returns with his third long player, the cunningly-titled 3. Boris Daenen has the fine art of the album down to a tee and there is a real sense of occasion about this 12 track epic. Last year's festival favourite "Rio", the Digital Farm Animals-featuring, Brazilian DNB-style is a fine example of the Netksy sound right now and it features prominently here, a beacon to coax people in and experience the further delights of 3 with Chromeo and Emeli Sande also among the cast of contributing names. 3 is energetic, brash, a reflection of its producer's discography, and yet something new entirely simultaneously.

** REPRESS ALERT ** Although arguably best-known for her portrayal of communications officer, Lieutenant Nyota Uhura on the original sci-fi television program Star Trek, Nichelle Nichols is likewise a formidable vocalist who also garnered a solo spot during a brief stint with Duke Ellington & His Orchestra. This 7" houses two infectious, vintage soul numbers - "Know What I Mean" and "Why Don't You Do It Right?" - and they sound as sweet as they did over 50 years ago. A valuable collectible for Soul, Northern fans as well as any true Trekkie.
