Review: Australian indie rockers The Church are an example of a band who have continued on strong ever since their inception, releasing a new album every few years or so since their debut in 1980. New single 'The Hypnogogue' is a gothic spectacle for all the somnambulists out there. Laying down a sinister group of layered guitar arps and an off-the-wall music video to boot, we're more than excited to find out what this sinister new iteration of the band's vision promises for the future.

Review: Aussie rockers The Church embark on a time travellers' dialogue with future band Eros Zeta And The Perfumed Guitars on their eponymous new crossover album. According to the album's liner notes, "Eros Zeta and the Perfumed Guitars were formed in 2048 in Antarctic City in Antarctica," toured the post-war world incessantly during the early 2050s and were "troubled with personnel and substance abuse problems culminating in Eros Zeta's addiction to Sky." Time will tell what the latter statement means, but apparently, no grandfathers were retroactively killed in the recording of this album. Ostensibly a showcase of the latter band's music, this is apparently by no means an album's worth of Church material at all, but it uncannily shares their prolific, steamy prog ruminations to a T. It's almost as if a case of temporal identity theft has occurred. Try not to feel the secondhand deja vu; we bet you can't.

Review: Embark on a mesmerizing journey with Steve Kilbey and Martin Kennedy's latest epic, 'Premonition K,' the third and culminating chapter of their highly acclaimed trilogy. Building on the success of Jupiter 13 (2021) and The Strange Life of Persephone Nimbus (2022), this album unveils a sumptuous and organic sonic landscape, delving into dark and enigmatic realms between life and death. Steve Kilbey, renowned as the frontman of The Church, infuses each track with emotional resonance and mystery. Martin Kennedy, drawing from his extensive experience with All India Radio, adds layers of sonic complexity, creating an immersive experience. Review: Le Bataclan 1972 captures the moment at which Lou Reed, Nico and John Cale all came together at the legendary Paris venue for the first time since (the three founding members of) The Velvet Underground split up as a unified band. Proving that collaborative sovereignty can still go on strongly, despite the symbolic dissolution of what we call a 'band', this much-bootlegged gig was famous for the performers' conscious decision to perform each other's solo works, celebrating mutual individuality rather than complete unity. With 'Candy Says', 'Pale Blue Eyes' and 'All Tomorrow's Parties' all featuring, this isn't just a social experiment either - it has full appeal for new and old Velvet Underground fans alike.

Review: Definitely one for The Stooges Geek Den, or whatever the inner circle of fans is actually called (let's face it, probably not that). A Fire of Life doesn't actually contain any songs that we're not already familiar with, but it's how the songs were recorded that makes all the difference here. Each was captured directly into one mixing desk or another during the band's original iteration, back when guitarist Ron Asheton was still playing guitar.

Some of these were studio sessions, others live shows, all of them remind us of their unbridled and unfettered talent. Spread out across two vinyls, we have all the big anthems from the first two albums, with many not just re-recorded but full-blown alternative versions of tracks. Released to coincide with the now-legendary 1972 King's Cross concert (another in-the-know fact that will appeal to many), it's a special edition to behold.
