The soft folk touches and rawness of delivery implicit in Hackman's small-hours serenades occasionally bring Laura Marling to mind, yet the arrangements here are both electronically abetted and possessed of a bleak and beguiling intimacy. Unshowy and understated, 'We Slept At Last' showcases an artist cultivating both indelible songcraft and ghostly ambience to create a unique and affecting voice.
