Review: It's some 20 years since Mind Over Midi man Helge Tommervag delivered his first 12" single. Over the last two decades, he's become one of the most consistent producers of expansive, icy and glacial ambient music, delivering material that's atmospheric in the extreme, whilst still boasting a quiet melodiousness. Deep Map continues this trend, serving up a series of impeccably evocative, spine-tingling explorations of hissing, texture-clad drone compositions, classically leaning ambience, and the sort of beat-less, spacey fare - influenced by the sci-fi ethos of Detroit techno - that was once the preserve of fellow Scandinavian explorer Biosphere. Predictably, it's a rather beautiful and otherworldly full-length, full of tracks that soothe and inspire in equal measure.

Review: Norwegian producer Helge Tommervag is something of a veteran when it comes to atmospheric ambience, having released his debut album way back in 1996. Since then, he's shifted between clandestine IDM, droning electronica and distinctive ambience. Monolog, his latest full-length, explores the possibilities of dubbed-out atmospherics. While most tracks offer little more than deep, discordant sound effects, electrical glitches and a whisper of melody, Tommervag somehow manages to instil the resultant calming experiments with more than a hint of emotion. As a result, it's a surprisingly expressive set, despite the sparsity of elements.

Review: Finnish production duo Matti Turunen and Michael Diekmann are solid stalwarts of the European electro scene, having previously delivered a string of impressive releases that flit between fluid, IDM-inspired swing and Derexciyan intensity. This limited release - just 306 copies, apparently - perfectly showcases their particular brand of analogue spaciousness. Where "Mobious Strip" is light, bright and airy in a ice-cold kind of way, "Herschel Crater" is ragged, robust and aloof. "Landforms" is arguably the standout, sitting somewhere between the two disparate styles - and blessed with lovingly sharp electronic melodies - but the languid "Phosphates" is almost as good.

Review: Those with a passion for left-of-centre electronic music - particularly cutting edge drone and ambient - should already known Ian Martin, who has previously released on Bunker and Further Records. Opfer is a new project for the Dutch producer, alongside Belgian artist Sebastien Crusener. The latter provided a wealth of curious field recordings, which Martin then moulded into dark, claustrophobic and unsettling ambient pieces with the addition of his own trademark electronics. The result is a set that's variously bleak, unearthly and strangely beguiling, with little room for sentiment or structure. Monument is, then, an impressive set, but not for the faint hearted.

Review: Keith Tucker revisits his Optic Nerve alias for the latest excursion into utopian strains of Detroit futurism on the 3 Dimensional EP- returning to the Glaswegian imprint Diametric for the first time since producing the debut drop back in 2009. Slightly erratic rhythms run throughout this release with "Virtual Depth Perception" setting the tone as hurried percussion is matched by a dizzying concoction of liquefied synth textures. A similar aesthetic characterises "Illusionist Theme" which sees a backdrop of pitch shifted melodics laid over crystalline washes, with off kilter drum programming lending proceedings a crisp edge. The experimental tone continues on the flip with "Retina Display Scan" drowning a vocal turn from Kelyn McKnight deep beneath a skittering arrangement of percussive textures and vast swathes of synthesised colour. Subsequent to this Tucker works through four interludes which will appeal to the more creative minds out there.
