In Your Arms
U Know U
Read My Mind (feat Paul Joseph)
Review: A long-awaited taste of what to expect from their forthcoming sophomore set Borough 2 Borough, this trio of deep, groove-laden treats from Craig Smith and The Revenge's 6Th Borough Project have been long-awaited. "In Your Arms" has Balearica stamped all over it; concentrated house euphoria with sun-splashed keys and a perfectly executed disco vocal sample, it will melt the heart of everyone in a three mile radius of the club. "U Know U" is just as slow and steady but comes with a more electronic make-up that's almost Italo in its delivery. Gradually developing momentum with classy drama, it's instantly timeless. "Read My Mind" closes this spectacular show with a nagging, hooky tech piece that drives with a sharply edited piano riff, hushed vocals and an ever-morphing rhythm. Beautiful.

String-A-Lude
Review: Scottish duo Graeme Smith and Craig Smith aka 6th Borough Project release their first full length on Delusions of Grandeur. One Night In The Borough splits as three 12"s; this final vinyl edition kicks off with two surprisingly house dominated cuts. "B.U.R.T" and "The Fool", whose intro does indeed fool via a standard tech house first half. Abruptly, the music cuts and from nowhere an immense disco accapella cuts in - the beat returns as a disco fuelled funk attack, 6th Borough project as we know (and love) them! On the flip, three tracks of 6th Borough project's highest standard are on display. Warm, low slung, swinging and expertly executed disco house exudes. These guys know what they do best and by sticking to it they succeed time and time again. 6th Borough project - Juno salute you!

The Vibes
The Vibes (Chicago Damn remix)
Just A New Day
Review: Together as 6th Borough Project, Craig Mitchell and Graeme "The Revenge" Clark have been a fixture of Delusions of Grandeur from the off, regularly transmitting their trademark brand of chunky disco-flecked house over the label's ongoing duration. The Vibes EP marks the duo's first material for Delusions since last year's well received debut album One Night In The Borough and finds them in fine fettle. Lead track "The Vibes" sees Mitchell and Clark in dark yet playful mood, with slick drum edits melding perfectly with eponymous vocal samples and a thick analogue bassline laying down the warehouse worthiness, while the arrival of orchestral strings provides the emotive release. Chicago Damn takes the track somewhere else on the accompanying remix, possibly his favourite productions since that killer debut Merc emission, stripping it back to a battle between high and low elements that must sound epic on a big system. Those craving some classic 6BP will revel in the luxurious expanses of "Just A New Day" that waits an absolute age to drop a beast of a bassline - well worth it though.

Rhythm (7:12)
Truth (6:39)
Keep On (6:49)
Review: Scottish twosome 6th Borough Project always have both eyes on the dancefloor, though some of their releases are undoubtedly heavier than others. 'Rhythm', the opening track from the pair's latest EP on Delusions of Grandeur, is one of their most unashamedly forthright workouts yet - a driving, sweat-soaked affair built around a restless bass loop, non-step organ stabs, breathless house beats and echoing vocal snippets. It's the closest they'll probably ever get to a proper heads-down number (and that's no bad thing). Over on the flip 'Truth' is a gently breezy Balearic deep house number featuring the twin attractions of fluid pianos and an addictive bassline, while 'Keep On' is a warmer and suitably summery deep house shuffler blessed with a brilliant breakdown and another weighty TB-303 style bassline.

Pulp Fusion (5:40)
Fade Out (5:48)
Raw (live edit) (6:58)
Review: Although still best known for delivering high grade reworks and re-edits, Adesse Versions has previously released some killer original productions, too. Predictably, the three sample-heavy house jams included on this debut Delusions of Grandeur experience are pretty darn hot. Check, in particular, the Clavinet-heavy Blaxploitation bounce of "Pulp Fusion", where sampled '70s instrumentation rides a bouncy, filter-flaunting house groove. Or, for that matter, the lolloping, undulating, glassy-eyed sweetness of the sun-kissed, extra percussive "Fade Out", which makes use of elements from a particularly Balearic disco record. Flip to the B-side for "Raw (Live Edit), a bustling, big room friendly jack-track that sounds like a long lost David Morales Red Zone Dub.

Review: Alma Negra steps up to Delusion of Grandeur to bring the vibes on this new 12" in a fancy die-cut and spot-varnished sleeve. The sounds are funky and disco-fried with 'Madrugada' riding on lavish horn leads and nice loose percussive beats. 'Funky Fever' ups the temperatures with some sleazy vocals riding on jangling and organic beats. 'Madrugad' then comes as a Yuksek remix that layers in more colourful synths and allows the steamy origin vocals to bring the heat and a dub mix closes down this party-friendly EP

Tricks On Wax (7:34)
Seven Sisters (5:34)
Special 4U (5:24)
Review: Well, it's safe to say that Delusions Of Grandeur has become something of a house institution by now. The imprint has put out a vast amount of material since the late noughties, all by an impressive collection of talents including Session Victim, Tornado Wallace, 6th Borough Project, Recloose and many others. Benjamin 'Ben Sun' returns to the label for his third appearance with "Tricks On Wax", an utterly funky and bass-heavy sample-house number reminiscent of the Moodymann school of sound. "Seven Sisters" is more spacey and futuristic in its melodic structure, while "Special 4U" winds things down to near hip-hop levels...chuggy beats, subtle breaks and smoked-out swirls of electronics.

Affirmation
Your Footprints (Tevo Howard remix)
Review: Ben Sun continues his glacial release rate of roughly one EP per annum with Your Footprints, the Australian producer's second release for Delusions Of Grandeur. The upbeat stylings of Sun's title track are completely turned out by the subsequent remix from Mr Tevo Howard, as the Chicago native opts to cloaks Sun's original in a lo-fi and filtered sheet or electronic fuzz, undoing Sun's original mix-down by bringing the rest of the instruments into murky bassline territory. Sun employs a walking bassline in "Affirmation", which creates the tracks fluid and constant groove, made all the more danceable with cut vocals and intermittent percussion samples. Hopefully it's not another year until Ben Sun's next release.

Disarm
Review: Having already impressed with outings on Foto, ARP and their own Use Of Weapons, Deep Space Orchestra add Delusions Of Grandeur to their CV and deliver perhaps their most refined work to date. "Lo Pan" glides across the A Side, weaving between flourishes of Rhodes and analogue arps with a confidence that fully demonstrates their progression as a production unit. Underpinning all this is the constant groove of 808 kicks and Detroit that provides the all important rawness and momentum. The accompanying remix from Berlin duo Trickski drags "Lo Pan" into the lower reaches of muscular house movements, stripping proceedings back to a dramatic synth lead and neck crunching beat before unfolding into a groove that really gets under your skin - thanks in no small part to the added vocals. Deep Space Orchestra end proceedings on the hazed out "Disarm" which accrues a delightfully ethereal quality as it floats towards the run out groove. Fine work all round!

Love Prescription EP

VFB - "Love Prescription" (original mix)
VFB - "Love Prescription" (Dirt dub)
FCL - "Matrix Plus"
VFB - "Love Prescription" (accapella tool)
Review: ** Repress ** In the canon of twelve inches that require little in the way of additional prompting from the Juno review staff, the latest release from Delusions of Grandeur must surely rank high. Pairing We Play House duo FCL with VFB, the latest alias from Dani 'MCDE' Plessow proves to be a smart choice, securing Delusions perhaps their finest release to date! Love Prescription is nominally formed around three variations on the title track from Plessow's new VFB moniker (yet another smart ode to his hometown) introducing the yearning soulful tone of Stef Gustaph amidst a nicely stripped down take on house music which is perhaps best utilised on the bubbling Dirt Dub version. FCL appear on the flip with the masterful "Matrix Plus" full of bouncing rhythms and high rise chords dipped with Mr Fingers style emotion.

Lex - "Strip Town" (5:26)
Lex & Locke - "Purity" (feat Guto Fernandez) (5:29)
Lex & Dennis Liber - "No Time For Formalities" (6:20)
Review: While he's been a stalwart of the Athens underground for decades, it's only in recent years that Lex has begun to release music on a regular basis. Here he returns to Delusions of Grandeur following his collaborative EP with Locke, 7 Day Path, in 2022. Fittingly, Locke makes an appearance - alongside Guto Fernandez - on 'Purity', a fine vocal number that sits somewhere between nu-disco and percussive Latin house, while Lex's love of collaboration continues on the late-80s piano house vibe of 'No Time For Formalities'. It's the A-side's solo tracks that impress most. Our pick of the pair is 'Without You', a hypnotic and locked-in acid house roller full of mind-mangling TB-303 motifs, jazzy Rhodes licks and spacey chords, though the deep and funky 'Strip Town' is almost as good.

Commando
Commando (Wareika's Crazy Setup mix)
Review: Delusions Of Grandeur present the single 'Lose Myself'; and with it it's time to introduce Manolo, the alter ego - when choosing to venture into more mid-tempo discoid territories - of a certain Roberto Rodriguez. The Helsinki based producer has been ruling things nicely for the last few years with big releases and remixes on Freerange, Compost, 2020Vision and Raw Fusion to name a few. Not one to get caught treading water, Roberto has made sure to keep things fresh as a daisy by creating his new 'Manolo' alias for cheeky edits and left-of-centre productions which fall outside the house music bracket. So who better to present you these tracks than Delusions Of Grandeur, a label not afraid to keep the tempos down and the ethos underground and eclectic. Things kick off with 'Lose Myself', a rock solid chugger that bumps n grinds perfectly while pianos build and the vocal rides the looped up slo-mo house groove. Flip over for 'Commando' which takes things in an altogether more epic, Italo-inspired direction with a sixteenth note bassline snaking around while the layers of synths slowly build into lush harmonies. A really lovely, dreamy vibe emanates from this track whilst driving beats make sure the groove stays fat and rolling. Finally we have the ever-so-slightly madcap Berliners Wareika on board to spin 'Commando' out into the stratosphere and back. Their totally analogue reworking takes a live dub approach with spinning delays and classic plate reverbs, resulting in a beautifully murky, swampy, lo-slung version loaded with atmosphere. For those unfamiliar with Wareika, be sure to check out their stuff on Connaisseur, Eskimo and Liebe*Detail.

Mirrored Cube (5:15)
Review: A warm welcome back to Brummie deep house don Mark Evetts, who resurfaces after 13 months away via a predictably pleasing Delusions of Grandeur label debut. He's in fine form from the off, peppering a squelchy bassline and soft-touch drums with sweet melodic motifs and tactile synthesiser chords on 'Swimming Through a Diamond'. He doffs a cap to his own hypnotic productions of old on the immersive, warming and analogue-rich 'Compact Object', before opting for a slightly jazzier and more organic sound on the locked-in, sun-speckled deepness of 'Heartaches'. 'Leading Into The Light' is marked out by gorgeous chords, bubbly electric piano motifs and mazy solos, while 'Mirrored Cube' is a pleasingly colourful and saucer-eyed slab of mid-tempo goodness that sounds like it was tailor-made for sofa-bound morning after listening sessions.

Zone Tonight (7:40)
Vertigo (6:29)
Bodymap (6:27)
Review: Now 18 years into his production career, Mark Evetts AKA Mark E is far less prolific than he once was, but his occasional releases are stronger than ever. That much is proved by his second EP for Delusions of Grandeur. Opener 'Enchantment Under The Sea' lives up to the promise of its title, with the Black Country-born producer wrapping fluid, ocean-deep chords and lapping electronic melodies around lo-fi drum machine beats and an undulating bassline. 'Zone Tonight' is similarly deep, melodious and tactile - all atmospheric synth strings, hypnotic drums, starry pads and bubbly bass - while 'Vertigo' is a jazzier and sunnier affair guaranteed to put smiles on faces. To finish off, the Merc main man blurs the boundary between lilting analogue synth-pop and wide-eyed deep house on the gorgeous 'Bodymap'.

Eighty-Eights (8:47)
Review: The recent reappearance of "Green Marimbas" on a Mister Saturday Night 12" had us remembering with fondness how great a producer Ali 'Nebraska' Gibbs is - especially that Rush Hour LP Displacement. It's been a while since we last saw a new Nebraska 12" in the trollies at Juno so kudos to Delusions of Grandeur for coaxing some new cuts out of Gibbs for this fine Rye Lane Rhythms 12". From the moment "Aw-rite (Mute version)" slips into action it's like Nebraska has never been away, that attention to percussive and rhythmic detail still dead eyed and the musicality tight as ever. "Warp & Weft" veers off into fuzzy, minimalist beatdown territory that will appeal to fans of obscure Sound Signature B-sides whilst "Eighty Eights" is the sort of loop heavy house cut that you can tease dancefloors with.

Review: The Delusions Of Grandeur label has always been a hotbed for quality deep house, and some of the game's best and brightest have graced its catalogue. Another great thing about the label has been its continuity and ability to think forwards, and this new series entitled Delusions 50 does just that. Here we have Part 1 of the collection, and it features the great Nebraska with "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running", a placid house chiller best served cold, no quick mixing on the fly is allowed, please! Ugly Drums bounces his way through funky bass tones and chugging percussion with "Like Its OK", but the undisputed quality comes from Session Victim and the gorgeous soulful swells of "Came To Be Alive" - boy what a corker!

His next one comes courtesy of Jimpster's long running Delusions Of Grandeur imprint, where he serves up this impressive four tracker called Got Me Coming Back. From the tough rolling hypnotic groove of the title track, to some properly dusty mood music for the late night as heard on the smoky jazz room shuffle of 'Deep Down In My Soul' and taking his cues from the Midwest legends of the deep on the evocative 'Your Sweet Lovin''. He then closes it out with the glassy-eyed and bittersweet vibe of 'How's Life?' over on the flip.

Matrix
Review: Pattern Select is Milton Jackson's new endeavour with Show B and the results of their first collaborative work together finds a suitable home at Delusions Of Grandeur. Tale Of The Tape is both an auspicious glance at what the duo have up their sleeve and perhaps the finest twelve on the DoG imprint to date. Ploughing a decidedly subterranean path through the rawer excesses of house music, what is really a selection of simple elements - vocal hooks, crafty drums, ever rising pads and satisfying crashes - are combined excellently and infiltrated by the wormiest of arpeggiated synth lines. The accompanying dub version does what all good dub versions are supposed to do and there is the bonus of a flipside revision from man like Cottam that completely rewires the track along some next century utopian galactic house tip - you'll love the smudged rhythms that come floating in. Just to switch up the vibe, Pattern Select end on the dusty fingered brilliance of "Matrix" - full on beat down head nod vibes soaked in Detroit atmospherics.

Backtrack
Review: Man like Recloose returns to Delusions of Grandeur, having debuted on the label in fine style with last year's Don't Get Me Wrong EP, and it's a welcome one as It's Too Late is the New Zealand dwelling producer's first 12" of 2013! Despite this prolonged absence, Recloose has clearly lost none of the energy that drove his DoG debut, with all three tracks here demonstrating a real vibrancy that will immediately provide a lift for any dancefloor experiencing an element of lag. The title cut bounces along with the sort of finesse you'd expect from a producer of Recloose's calibre, whilst the heavy slab of filter disco "You Just Love You" highlights his arrangement skills. Fans of Cardiology era Recloose should head right to "Backtrack" and bask in its brilliance.

Don't Get Me Wrong (Tornado Wallace remix)
Review: Recloose on Delusions of Grandeur? Yes please! "Don't Get Me Wrong" is classic Matt Cicioine, packed full of his usual musicality and dense, melodic production. It sounds like an unlikely fusion of distant, long-forgotten disco and spine-tingling deep house, with more atmospheric vocal samples and live instruments than you can shake a smelly stick at. It's heady and intoxicating, coming on like a classic house production made somewhere between Detroit and New York. The driving "Shimmy" continues the murky, retro-futurist trend and is just as engaging. As if that wasn't enough, there's also a lovingly fluid, decidedly Balearic rework of the title track from Melbournite Tornado Wallace that's quite possibly the best thing he's done to date. Splendid!

Review: Nottingham based Ron Basejam is the anagrammed alter-ego of Crazy P co-founder James Baron who creates music with feelings on labels such as Futureboogie and Wolf Music and now for Freerange sister label Delusions Of Grandeur. On the fittingly titled The Sound Of A Feeling EP he serves up the charmingly titled "Shit Wizard" a soulful, nu-disco boogie-down jam. "We Walk To War" in its original form is the kind of lo-slung/slo-mo disco that really floats our boat, but the remix up next by Tee Mango really injects it with some Stevie Wonder style soul-funk that'll help get your shine on. The title track on the flip is the deepest and most emotive offering here, with its sublime and hypnotic qualities being pushed along by a tight groove.

"Act Natural" kicks things off with a rolling crunch before taking a sudden left turn into something so naturally uplifting you can't help but think of DJ Gregory in his prime. "Jus Right" eases back a little and digs deep into the wavey sliding synths before "Low Key" rounds off with a more hypnotic perspective. With Pontchartrain on remix duties, we're really being spoilt here. Straight up grandeur.

The German pair have always made house with a difference - that difference being proper structures and a real sense of liveliness and vitality a long way from rigid, gridded dance music. This new three tracker on long time home Delusions of Grandeur offers more of that, firstly with he busy percussive vibes of 'Two Crowns' with its soul, jazz and funk elements all sitting pretty. 'Guidance' takes you out into the great outdoors on summery flutes and broken beats and 'Village Youth' is a life-affirming and spiritual house tune of the highest order.

See You When You Get There
Review: In addition to issuing their second album See You When You Get There in triple vinyl format, German duo Session Victim have taken the curious decision with Delusions of Grandeur to release the LP across a trilogy of 12" samplers too. Irrespective of their motives, there's no denying each of the four cuts on this second sampler will service any deep house loving dancefloor for months to come, with Hauke Freer and Matthias Reiling's refined grasp of the genre resulting in music that positively ruffles with a deep sense of melodic warmth. The contrast between the jazzy "Hey Stranger" and the wholly darker "Make People Dance" also hints at a pleasant development in the Session Victim sound too.

Review: Those cursing the fact they missed out on Session Victim's See You When You Get There album in its premium triple LP format can at least be consoled with the fact the German duo are issuing it as a series of 12" samplers too. This third and final sampler completes the set and is fairly indicative of the widescreen approach to the deep house form shown on the album as a whole, with the wonderful jazz house shuffle of opener "The Most Beautiful Divorce Ever" dovetailing nicely with the piano heavy soundtrack piece "Crystal Maze". At the time See You When You Get There was originally released, the fluttering brilliance of "Under Your Spell" became one of our favourite Session Victim productions and it's lost none of its lustre here.

Yes I Know (Max Graef remix)
Glow In The Dark
Review: Session Victim deliver their first EP of 2013 via Jimpster's Delusions Of Grandeur imprint, cutting and pasting vocal samples and disco strings over house beats and shortened chords; see "Yes I Know". New Tartelet act Max Graef adds some extra streetwalkin' funk to his remix, keeping Session Victims effective quick fire loops, while the EP's title track proudly walks down a road of high and happy disco-infused filter house.
