Review: Kirk Degiorgio has been a UK techno mainstay since forever. It's been 15 years since his last As One studio album, but "Communion" proves that it was well worth the wait. Covering the sort of star gazing, jazz tinged and high class techno that originated in Detroit, Degiorgio layers up lush chord symphonies with supple acid, icy harmonics and the sort of hi tech funk that keeps you on your toes. A masterclass in real emotion as well as propulsive groves, this is artful, expansive and cinematic techno of the highest order from one of the best in the game.

The Unveiling (5:37)
The Ladder (Ian O'Brien remix) (10:17)
Absorption Spectra (The 7th Plain remix) (6:35)
Descent Module (7:41)
Review: UK techno mainstay Kirk Degiorgio has made a lot of great music over the years, much of it under the machine soul/tech-jazz-inspired As One alias. His latest EP is another typically impeccable slab of Motor City inspired tech-soul brilliance. Lead cut 'The Unveiling' is deep, gently uplifting, gloriously spacey and effortlessly far-sighted, bringing bags of emotion as well as authentically crunchy machine drums, immersive pads and awe-inspiring melodies. He opts for an enveloping, otherworldly ambient techno/IDM sound on 'Descend Module', with discordant notes and hallucinatory acid lines riding high in the mix. The EP also boasts two reworks of previously released cuts. Ian O'Brien goes ultra-deep and gently breakbeat-driven on a superb revision of 'The Ladder', before Luke Slater drops a hypnotic, ultra-deep revision of 'Absorption Spectra' as The 7th Plain.

Absorption Spectra (The 7th Plain remix) (6:36)
Descent Module (7:42)
Review: De:tuned is the perfect home for Kirk Degiorgio's As One project, where his steeped history in deep, emotive techno and affinity for jazz melds into some of the most stunning machine soul out there. If you're familiar with the sound you'll be instantly sold on these tracks - they don't just ape a bygone sound like so many are doing with that early 90s UK techno vibe. These pieces take that approach and elevate it - the production soars and the expression comes through in startling high-definition, and that goes for the stellar remixes from Ian O'Brien and Luke Slater in The 7th Plain mode as well.

The Future Sound Of London - "Monolith" (4:00)
Review: The seventh and final instalment of De:Tuned's brilliant Unboxed Brain series - an unashamed tribute to 1990s IDM and ambient techno featuring contributions from many of the artists who defined that scene - is predictably special. It features a slew of new remixes of previously released tracks, plus "Monolith", a previously unreleased ambient track from the Future Sound of London that's every bit as weird, wonderful and out there as the duo's greatest work. Elsewhere, Kirk Degiorgio (as Future/Past) and Mark Broom both drag B12's "World's End" towards the dancefloor (the latter providing a punchy electro re-make), while The Black Dog provides a brilliantly blissful, string-drenched ambient interpretation of Scanner's "Eros".

Review: Paul Bailey, known as Damage, proffers his sonic take on the concept of what damage is and could sound like in the abstract. Like a giant piston hurtling at us, and repeatedly crushing us from above, we're thrown menacingly into the sniffly wiggles of 'Hadal Zone' and the reinterpretive work of the likes of James Ruskin and Makaton. It's a worthy addition to the Brummy techno canon, and should be noted for its unique wonk-tech veer.

Hadal Zone (James Ruskin remix) (4:37)
Decompression (Makaton remix) (6:28)
Decompression (4:08)
Review: The seemingly unstoppable rise of De:tuned continues, as they take a break from serving up sci-fi techno, IDM and ambient techno to deliver something a lot more intense: a surprise EP from original House of God Birmingham resident DJ Paul 'Damage' Bailey. Channeling the spirit of his friend Surgeon while offering up something fresh, the two original tracks on show are undeniably inspired. 'Hadal Zone' adds weirdo noises, bleeps and mind-mangling electronic pulses to a slipped Afro-techno groove, while 'Decompression' is a wonky, triple-time workout full of Ket-addled electronics and wayward loops. Makaton re-imagines that track as a locked-in late-night techno throb-job, while James Ruskin turns 'Hadal Zone' into a buzzing, industrial-influenced electro-bleep number.

Review: With its' 15th birthday imminent, De:tuned delivers another must-check release: a brand-new instalment in Future Sound of London's legendary, rave-era Pulse series of EPs. Created using music recorded, but never released, by the duo - under a variety of aliases - during the late 80s and early 90s, Pulse 5 represents a significant addition to the vast FSOL catalogue. There's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the crunchy, fuzzy hip-hop beats and ghostly electronics of FSOL's 'Dialects' and the sub-heavy, bleep-infuenced brilliance of Yage's 'Sun Risen', to the intergalactic breakbeat hardcore hedonism of Smart Systems' 'The New Generation', the deep space proto-d&b of Ingo Tribe's 'Obstinta' and the glassy-eyed ambient techno of FSOL's 'Reasonable Acquiries'.

Review: 32 years after the fourth volume in Brian Dougans and Gary Cobain's Pulse series landed in record stores, De:Tuned offers up a surprise fifth edition. Fittingly, the music on offer - all produced by the pair under a variety of aliases, including The Future Sound of London - was created in the early 90s and has been plucked from a swathe of DATs discovered in their archive. There's plenty to set the pulse racing (sorry) throughout, from the crunchy, fuzzy hip-hop beats and ghostly electronics of FSOL's 'Dialects' and the sub-heavy, bleep-influenced brilliance of Yage's 'Sun Risen', to the intergalactic breakbeat hardcore hedonism of Smart Systems' 'The New Generation', the deep space proto-D&B of Ingo Tribe's 'Obstinta' and the glassy-eyed ambient techno of FSOL's 'Reasonable Acquiries'.

Review: Harking back to the very dawn of acid house in the UK, Humanoid will forever be an emblem for a revolutionary moment when this new music and its attendant culture befuddled the establishment and entranced the youth. A chart classic like no other, 'Stakker Humanoid' blew the rave scene apart and now it's getting a fresh airing thanks to the ever-excellent De:tuned label. That means the remix line-up comes in heavy, leading in with Luke Vibert bringing a fierce strain of acidic breakbeat with his own cheeky flair bedded in. Meanwhile, Autechre deliver the 'A664' version, which predictably rearranges the track to their own geometric design, but not at the expense of the electro-funk clout, and then UK acid veteran Mike Dred delivers a wonderfully dirty 303 throbbing take to send the package home in style.

Review: Brian Dougans continues to deliver nostalgic jams as Humanoid, the alias he used - pre Future Sound of London - for his acid house and techno inspired late 1980s productions. Like the rest of his Humanoid material for De:tuned, Sweet Acid Sound is forthright, funky and full-throttle stuff, with mind-mangling TB-303 lines and jacking TR-808 drums the order of the day. Dougans sets his stall out via the surging, far-sighted title track - which genuinely sounds like a long-lost turn-of-the-90s warehouse anthem - before doffing a cap to fellow UK acid house pioneers 808 State (and specifically their pioneering Newbuild anthem) on '808 Nation'. Over on side B, 'Roached' is a moody and spaced-out affair rich in ragged acid lines and intergalactic chords, while 'Si-Rak' is a raging, TB-303 heavy jack track that's almost guaranteed to blow your mind.

Review: De:tuned's latest saucer-eyed trip into the world of previously unheard ambient techno, electro, IDM and acid is another must-have four-tracker. As usual, the assembled list of artists is heavy on producers who can trace their roots back to the halcyon days of the 1990. Future Sound of London don their more rave-focused Humanoid alias for a typically robust, mind-altering trip into acid-electro territory, before former Rephlex artist Mike Cullen presents a Kosmik Kommando cut full to bursting with warehouse-ready stabs, chunky techno drums and seriously psychedelic acid lines. Over on side B, Luke Vibert lets us read "The Banter Notes" - a typically cheeky, bass-heavy affair whose triple-time beats and trippy electronics are particularly alluring - while German veterans Air Liquide offer up the raw analogue rhythms, heady bleeps and growling modular noise of "Strunkelpotz".

Review: Mike Dred's contributions to acid and rave culture overall are monumental, although he's largely operated outside any specific scene trends (perhaps excepting the misfit community orbiting Rephlex Records). In 2013 he dropped a fresh salvo of lysergic bombs in the form of Overmind, which has been dutifully scrubbed up for a fresh pressing on silver wax courtesy of De:tuned, one of the labels keeping the braindance dream alive. From the jacking 303 workout of 'Sociosexual' to the wet-as-you-like mutant electro of 'Psychoatomic', this is a collection which manages to be both immediate and utterly idiosyncratic. No one does it quite like Mike Dred.

His ability to make bendy, warped supple synth leads is laid bare on opener 'Burnenville' which is a real mind melter. 'Holowell' then has scintillating hi hats that ape classic Detroit techno, especially with the far sighted pads that also bring perfectly dreamy moods. As One then closes down the EP with a remix that is more energetic as the synths jump around the mix and leaving glowing trails in their wake.

Review: RECOMMENDED
There will always be something deeply, infectiously romantic about the early-mid-1990s electronic and dance music scene. It was a time when, comparatively speaking, commercialism was yet to fully make inroads in the landscape, when producers were still often anonymous and few people really knew what DJs actually looked like, the only visual cues distorted by smoke, strobes, and chaos.

The result is there are many, many, many troves for newcomers to discover. Nuron, or Nurmad Jusat, is just one of those, but definitely up there with the most rewarding. Whether you call work like this three-piece EP techno, ambient, or a combination of the two it packs levels of musicality many creators can only hope to aspire to. Elements of Detroit, electro, trance, progressive breaks and more, boxed up in a lush, tranquil but highly usable package equally at home in the dance or mid-Monday morning.

Review: Nuron's latest album, Blanchimont, released on De:tuned Records, reaffirms his status as a luminary in the ambient techno realm. The title track, 'Blanchimont,' is fused with Detroit's machine soul while adding some European twist, heightened by its release on vibrant orange vinyl. 'Stavelot' on Side-1 enchants with its scenic beauty and soulful melodies, reminiscent of Detroit techno's finest moments. Meanwhile, 'Masta' on Side 2 explores ambient realms, echoing the styles of CIM, As One, or Stasis. Throughout the album, Nuron's signature blend of nostalgia and innovation shines, creating a sonic experience that resonates with both longtime fans and newcomers alike. Blanchimont stands as another jewel in Nuron's discography, another bookmark in his enduring influence and creative talents in the ambient techno genre.

Review: Nuron's latest album, Blanchimont, stands as a reminder to his enduring influence in the ambient techno scene. Released on De:tuned Records, the same label behind his recent works, it continues his legacy of crafting soulful and intelligent electronic music. The title track, 'Blanchimont,' shines as the centerpiece of the album. With its upbeat tempo and intricate layers of sound, it channels the spirit of Detroit's machine soul music scene while infusing it with a distinct European flair. This version, pressed on vibrant orange vinyl, adds a visual dimension to the auditory experience, enhancing the listener's immersion in Nuron's sonic universe. On Side 1, 'Stavelot' captivates with its scenic beauty and soulful melodies, reminiscent of the best of Detroit techno. Review: During the early-to-mid 1990s, Nurmad Jusat released a string of now sought-after singles on Likemind that showcased an emotive, far-sighted take on techno that still sounds timeless all these years on. This fine collection features various recordings he made - but never released - as Nuron and Fuge back in 1993 and '94. As inspired by the techno sounds of his native UK as the far-sighted brilliance of purist Detroit techno and the dreamy soundscapes of Larry Heard, it's a genuinely brilliant collection of long-lost gems. Our picks include the subtly clonk-influenced opener 'The Coded Message', the skewed deep electro shuffle of 'Another Way', the sci-fi techno brilliance of 'Contrapoin (First Version)' and the out-there ambient soundscape that is 'Dialectic Confusion'.

Review: 'Emotive techno' eschews the term ambient techno on this new archival release from Nuron and Fugue, figureheads of the '90s subscene that took the world by storm. Lifted from archives of DAT tapes that were, as the story tends to go, inevitably found in some attic somewhere, these tracks are nostalgia-tinged jams that carry with them the hiss and saturation of 1993; but of course, stylistically, they belong in 2993. Nuron's 'Interior World' is a scratchy and restless early highlight, while Fugue's 'Contapoint' has a proto-dubsteppy angularity seeping off it.

Incredible (5:51)
Review: Steven Rutter was of course one half of the hero-worshipped bleep techno outfit B12. He's now back, going it alone, on the De:tuned label with his Close Your Eyes And Breathe EP. It's typically starry-eyed fusion of techno, IDM and post-rave design that takes you way back to a warehouse scene you might not have even lived, but recognise all the same. 'OLF ResPekt' is the melancholic opener with its smeared chords and gentle rhythms,
'Rewind 273' develops that theme and 'Incredible' closes with a more direct but still blissful beat.

Of All The Worlds (7:02)
The Embrace (Nuron remix) (5:48)
The Embrace (8:27)
Review: The Stars sound is all about cosmic techno visions and that is proven here from the first moment of 'Of All The Worlds.' It's got its head up above the stars with cracking perc and beats all overlaid with supple synths. 'The Embrace' is more punchy but just as sonorous and a Nuron remix goes deep. The extra background details of this are worth noting too for real purists - the vinyl version comes with superb sleeve and label artwork by Abdul Haqq and the tunes were mastered by the one and only Matt Colton at Metropolis, then cut to 180g heavyweight vinyl.

Of All The Worlds (6:56)
The Embrace (Nuron remix) (5:39)
The Embrace (8:27)
Review: UK techno pioneer Steve Pickton (Stasis) comes to De:tuned! Records after having trawled his old DAT tapes and salvaged three odd tunes from the attic-bound pile. 'Of All The Worlds' and 'The Embrace' are playful analog jams in mono, emblematic of the kind of early rediscoveries that a time-honoured producers such as Stasis might make. A new remix by Nuron, in stereo, of 'The Embrace' nicely breaks up this retroization of Stasis' catalogue.

Review: For anyone remotely keyed into the early wave of techno in the UK, the promise of unreleased material from Stasis is a very exciting prospect indeed. Steve Pickton's project was tantalisingly short lived, but we were gifted some seminal albums and EPs in that time. Fortunately he's now struck up a steady working relationship with De:tuned, who are coaxing some unreleased material out of unearthed DATs that allow us to hear more of that next-level machine soul he's capable of. It's staggering to think tracks this good weren't released back in the day, but fortunately they have been now, with 'Hard Emotion' possibly taking the cake thanks to its gorgeous, rounded bassline and enchanting synth lines up top.
