Cult Edits 006
Cat: CULTED 006. Rel: 11 Aug 20

Disco/Nu-Disco
Nicola Cruz - "Cartomante" (6:37)
Asa Moto - "Safari Glove" (4:50)
Balam - "Carnaval Acido" (6:00)
Tyu - "Negra" (5:28)
Akimbo - "Batucada" (4:24)
Review: Multi Culti's Cult Edits series returns to bring you some saucy, sizzling surrealism from the outer reaches of the groove. Nicola Cruz is up first with the humid beatdown and transcendental acid undertones of "Cartomante". Asa Moto keeps things clammy but driving with the African pulse of "Safari Glove" while Balam takes things in a more wigged-out synthwave direction on "Carnaval Acido". Tyu's "Negra" turns the heat up higher with a massive low end throb and plenty of chuggy pressure for ultimate dancefloor escapism. Akimbo completes the package with the feverish carnival atmosphere of "Batucada", which of course piles on Latin drums and plenty more besides.

Disco/Nu-Disco
Inigo Vontier - "Cha Cha Cha" (6:47)
Pietnev - "Nathan" (5:52)
Dreem Lion - "Acid Se Con Do" (6:23)
Alex Le Fan - "Mambo Jambo" (4:34)
Review: Less than three months have passed since the first volume in the Cult Edits series arrived in stores, but already the Multi-Culti crew has rustled up another quartet of weird and wonderful reworks. We're particularly enjoying the bizarre chanted vocals and druggy electrofunk flex of Inigo Vontier's brilliantly madcap "Cha Cha Cha", though the dense, post-punk Afro-tribal romp that is Dreem Lion's "Acid Se Con Do" is also superb. If percussion-laden heaviness is your thing, be sure to check Alex Le Tan's rework, which brilliantly breathes new life into a chant-tastic chunk of carnival ready drum circle insanity.

Manfredas - "Mani From The Block" (7:57)
Siaubas - "Hare Hare" (6:24)
Simple Symmetry - "Yalla" (6:42)
Review: Those fine folks behind the otherworldly Multi-Culti imprint have decided to launch a re-edit series, naturally focusing on reworks of weird and wonderful, off-kilter gems from around the world. This first serving of Cult Edits naturally contains some seriously tasty and exotic fare, most notably the parping, horn-heavy shuffle of Manfredas's "Mani From The Block", a stretched-out interpretation of what appears to be a Turkish style funk weird-out. Flip to the B-side for two more heavyweight slabs of wild goodness: the low-slung, dub-fired post-punk insanity of Siaubas's "Hare Hare" rework, and the throbbing, chant-along drug-chug of Simple Symmetry's brilliant "Yalla" interpretation.

Disco/Nu-Disco
Manfredas - "Riddim" (5:44)
Thomass Jackson - "Build The Bridge" (7:03)
Balam - "Lentombi" (6:20)
Inigo Vontier - "Makata" (4:35)
Sano - "Bantu" (5:10)
Review: Thus far, Cult Edits has proved to be one of the most interesting and intriguing rework re-edits series around, with each 12-inch offering an impressive selection of cosmic, exotic and otherworldly reworks. Volume four continues on a similar theme. Manfredas kicks things off with the dirty ragga-house pressure of "Riddim", before Thomass Jackson has his way with a far-out tribal disco chugger on EP standout "Build The Bridge". Mid-'80s electronic Afro-chug is the order of the day on Balam's "Lentombi", while Inigo Vontier's "Makata" is percussive, heavily electronic, weird and undeniably druggy. In comparison, Sano's chant-along Afro-electro number "Bantu" is positively breezy.

Disco/Nu-Disco
Mytron & Ofofo - "Machinenhimmel" (5:18)
Barry Sunset - "Hit The Drums" (5:00)
Thomass Jackson - "Liquido En 33" (6:19)
Medieval Man - "Humble Frodo" (6:17)
Review: The mysterious Medieval Man is joined by Thomass Jackson, Mytron & Ofofo and Barry Sunset on this new split EP from the fledgling Culted label. Their edit series tackles plenty of interesting dark disco source material with beguiling results. The freaky future sounds of Mytron & Ofofo's 'Machinenhimmel' opens up with phased bass and spooky leads. Barry Sunset's twisted sci-fi disco stomper 'Hit The Drums' then takes off to the cosmos and Thomass Jackson twists and turns on loose, jangling percussion that is underpinned by fat bottomed bass. The brilliantly entitled 'Humble Frodo' is a weird and wonderful closer.

Disco/Nu-Disco
Inigo Vontier - "Ti Amo" (5:57)
Angelina Amor - "Industroyal" (5:51)
Youkounkoun - "Cosmic Yoyo" (5:55)
Asa Moto - "When The Funk Is On" (4:50)
Review: If you're in the mood for some cosmic grooves, wayward disco and pagan psychedelia, Multi-Culti's Cult Edits series is always worth checking. The imprint's latest offering is packed to the rafters with mind-altering goodness. Inigo Voltier sets the tone with "Ti Amo", a Fairlight-powered bounce through post-Italo oddball electro territory with added mix-80s power-pop guitars, before Angelina Amor reworks a sludgy slab of European industrial/new wave fusion. Youkounkoun's throbbing "Cosmic Yoyo" sounds like post-apocalyptic Italo-disco after a fist full of downers, while Asa Moto's "When The Funk Is On" is a funky but undeniably weird electro-industrial cut rich in delay-laden vocal snippets and metallic percussion hits.
