Cat: CS 023. Rel: 23 Nov 20

Minimal/Tech House
Jive (7:44)
Honkey (Crazy Hats) (5:42)
Ochos (6:48)
Review: The ever prolific Lee Renacre is on Constant Sound in his 100Hz guise for a fresh trip through expressive techno and house music delivered with a warm, old-skool flavour. 'Jive' skips and twirls across the A side in a swung, sprightly exploration of soft and rounded synth lines and pleasingly chunky beats, capturing a dusky ambience along the way that's so easy to melt into. 'Honkey (Crazy Hats)' takes things deeper with a more rhythm-focused joint that maintains a submerged feel throughout. 'Ochos' completes the set with a deep tech house meditation rich in melodious uplift, striking a spiritual tone which would go down very well with someone bumping records on Yoruba and other such labels.

Conquest Of Time (7:00)
5am Club (6:24)
Shake Effect (6:22)
Devon Break (6:04)
Review: Josh Baker has been supremely busy this year, firing off crucial 12"s for labels like Aesthetic, Sukhumvit, You & Me and PIV Limited. Now he lands on Constant Sound alongside his regular sparring partner Alfie Jack for a rich and varied record that should find plenty of use in different corners of the dance. 'Conquest Of Time' leads the way with a mellifluous, trance-licked groover to tickle the synapses, while '5am Club' takes things in a more stripped-back, heads-down direction. 'Shake Effect' offers up some brooding, upfront deep house, and then 'Devon Break' completes the set with a snappy breakbeat shiver to appeal to the ravers out there.

Another Source (Mandar remix) (7:41)
Cosmic Warfare (Diego Krause remix) (6:50)
Another Source (original) (5:41)
I Like You (Laura Jones remix) (5:59)
Review: Burnski's debut album DNA dropped on Constant Sound last year, and now the label have called upon a strong cast of characters to do the remix duty on some of the LP's key tracks. Parisian trio Mandar bring a heart-melting tone to "Another Source" without losing their insistent shuffle, while Diego Krause strips things down with a functional broth of minimal minded business. The original mix of "Another Source" gets a fresh outing, and very fine it sounds too. That leaves it to Laura Jones to twist out a hypnotic electro version of "I Like You".

Changes (feat Beckford) (6:09)
Changes (Kris Wadsworth Puberty remix - Vinyl Only) (6:56)
Changes (Deadbeat remix) (6:45)
Review: Riding high on the success of a second release that introduced A-Scott & Chad to the Constant Sound fold, the third instalment finds Burnski back in the saddle to offer up "Changes", getting into a more techno-oriented frame of mind without losing that warmth and playful sensibility he has made his own over the years.
After strong remixes from Trus'me, Steve O'Sullivan and Cab Drivers on previous releases, Constant Sound 003 gives another opportunity for the label to call upon the finest in the business to reinterpret the original material.
In keeping with the heads-down workout tones of Burnski's original, it makes perfect sense to invite an artist as accomplished as Deadbeat up for a remix. Scott Monteith has long been a stellar example of how to push dub techno in thrilling new directions and it shows on his version of "Changes".
Kris Wadsworth has just as much to say for himself after years spent crafting heavyweight house and techno with a mercenary instinct matched by lashings of machine soul. He reduces the original track into a stripped down techno dub perfect for late at night. His remix will only be available on the vinyl.
It's yet another step forwards for a label committed to delivering nothing but the highest quality house and techno for those who seek a touch more depth from their music.

Get Up (7:06)
Vertigo (7:38)
Daydreamer (7:02)
Review: Burnski's Constant Sound label keeps on trucking with this prime cut of crystalline tech-house for the more discerning heads. Lead track "Faith" is a feisty little groover, threading a wealth of field recordings and playful synth flourishes in between the fundamental rhythm section. "Get Up" has a freakier micro house bump to it that harks back to Burnski's Trapez days, while "Vertigo" does a marvelous job of spinning ones head right out with all manner of quivering synth tones. "Daydreamer" takes things a touch deeper to finish the record off with some crafty percussion, woozy melodic swells and immersive chord throbs in the lower register.

Lost In Translation (7:07)
Review: After the success of his debut album, Burnski returns to Constant Sound with a 4 tracker designed for the dance floor. "Circuits" opens this new EP - for his own Constant Sound label - with a fiery, electrifying procession of telly drums and fidgety percussion folds, and this is stripped back even further on the magnetic banger entitled "X". Over on the B-side, "Flight 723" aptly takes us on a deeper journey, filled with mysterious synths tricks and imperceptible pad sounds, while "Lost In Translation" clicks away to a more familiar minimal tone, rounded off and sleeked into motion by deep, wondrous gleams of dubbiness.

Review: Although James Burnham aka Burnski has been producing house by the truckload since the mid 00s, DNA is his first LP to date, and it lands courtesy of his own Constant Sound imprint. Across labels like Trapez, 20:20 Vision, and even Poker Flat Recordings, this dude has always stuck to what he does best regardless of passing trends or styles, and that is making quality, tech-driven dance music. Now, make no mistake, this album is still a collection of dance floor scorchers, but the nine tunes make sense next to each other, and they go way beyond the four-to-the-floor remit. There's some swinging garage blazers like "Another Source", hard and progressive house such as "Advanced Knowledge", and even a bit of dirty electro on bangers like "Cosmic Warfare". This is pure quality throughout, and makes for a big step up in Burnski's career. Dope.

Your Love (feat Beckford)
Your Love (Trus'me Your Love Takes Time remix)
Your Love (Steve O'Sullivan remix)
Review: Active as a record releasing producer for a decade, James 'Burnski' Burnham has credits for a wide variety of labels in his discography, gracing everyone from Boe to Hot Creations. Constant Sound is a new label from the man, set up with Jon Woodall, Burnski's production partner as Constant. Music from Cab Drivers, Kris Wadsworth, A Scott, and Richard Rowell is promised over the coming months but it's a solo record from Burnski that kicks matters off with Your Love. A collaboration with vocalist Beckford, "Your Love" is one of those insistent, driving house cuts with dashes of acid to it and it's complemented by remixes from Prime Numbers man Trus'me and Mosaic boss Steve O'Sullivan who take the cut in markedly different directions. A solid start for Constant Sound!

Go (6:05)
Move (6:40)
Review: When he's not dishing out breaks-y garage and slick retro-future electro, Burnski still finds time to exercise his decades deep prowess in the art of tech house. On this new drop for Constant Sound he's clearly having a lot of fun sculpting a hefty, big room sound with Ibiza in its sights. 'Trigger' hinges around an epic breakdown-build up which goes off like a rocket when it drops, swinging with glee and leaning in on playful synth licks. 'Go' is an absolute monster too, which nods to Burnski's recent UKG explorations with some rough bass and a killer 4x4 groove. If you want to do some damage in the dance in the classiest of ways, look no further.

Review: Constant Sound co-owner James 'Burnski' Burnham delivers a stonking pair of garage-flecked house tracks that offer up no nonsense dancefloor attitude in spades. 'Shout' is all about its monster rhythmic framework, with economic splashes of synths on the side simply maintaining the flavour and a properly full on old skool breakdown. Flip track 'Remember' leans a little further towards UK garage with its sugar sweet female vocal snippets, but the central groove hustles and bustles along with maximum weightiness, making it suitable for any number of differing dancefloors.

Where Are You? (5:53)
Stop (5:57)
The Way (5:47)
Review: Three nicely varied offerings from the Constant Sound label's co-owner James 'Burnski' Burnham, headed by the ridiculously catchy and unashamedly party-stoking 'Where Are You?', where hyperactive, clipped vocals add a new dimension to the sturdy, garage influenced house grooves that have become one of his trademarks. 'Stop' is cooler and calmer, jazzy vibraphone tinkling making way for nudging keyboard stabs, and delay-heavy reggae vocals and brass flavouring the irresistible shuffle of closer 'The Way''.

Afters (5:22)
Review: Despite presumably being insanely busy A&Ring for all his many labels, which put out music at a high rate of release, Burnski does also still find time to make his own music. And it's top tackle too, whatever he tries, from garage to ambient. To kick off with here the Northern rock cooks up a super breezy and Balearic-tinged house tune that you can imagine playing at some vibey Ibiza sunset party. That's probably why he called it 'Summer 23' to be honest. On the flip, 'Afters' gets more chunky and tribal, with tight and pinging drums and that sort of wide-eyed, tongues-out energy that gets the freaks going.

Toxic (alternative mix) (6:41)
Review: When not knocking it out of the park with his garage alias Instinct, James Burnham is somehow also managing to find time to revert to his original Burnski moniker and the minimal and tech sounds with which he first made his name. On this latest 12" via his own Constant Sound label, 'Boom' is a rude boy jam for sure - the filthy bass and low-end wobble are accompanied by ragga vocals up top. 'Toxic' is a more straight-up tech pumper with slinky hi-hat designs, smart filters and bass-driven drums. As always with this powerhouse, the subtle production details really elevate this one into a standout cut.

Review:  The ever-prolific Burnski is back on Constant Sound with some upfront bumpers that once again demonstrate his standing as a leading light in the modern tech house movement. 'Process' manages to balance moody, melodic atmospherics with a rock solid rhythm section, while 'Systems' takes things in a decidedly more jacking, tracky direction. 'Long Train' keeps the pressure up with a mean low end and some whipcrack claps to made your head spin. 'Effect' finishes the set off with a sumptuous dub excursion that will appeal to all those who like Basic Channel headspace matched with a sturdy house groove.

Review: Constant Sound is back in business with a collaborative EP from label founder Burnski and mainstay Kepler. As you should know by now, this means tech house is the order of the day, but equally these two don't rest on their laurels. 'What We Going To Do?' is a particularly fruity kind of tech house bumper with a garage bent, full-fat low end and a plethora of playful sample tweaks running throughout. 'Free' keeps the skip up, ramps up the bass and drops some classy dub touches into the blender. 'Want It' is on a similar tip, but here Burnski and Kepler take it deeper with some tasteful chords and dreamy FX processing. 'Colour' completes the set with mellow mood to balance out the uptempo thrust of the rhythm section, making for something like a sundown essential for the up all day crowd.

Lucid State (6:56)
Review: Is there anyone in the game that has been turning out such essential club sounds in so many different styles for such a long and consistent run as Burnski? Whatever he has on his cornflakes, we want some, because he's done it again here, this time with pal Kelper. 'What I Want' takes up the whole of the a-side and is mix of everything from deep house to minimal to Chicago jack. It's a busy, restless tune with a hooky vocal that keeps you locked. 'This' is a more tripped-out 5AM groove with warped deep space sound designs and airy drums that float. 'Lucid State' taps into a dreamy 90s tech house vibe that is utterly compelling.

Review: Burnski and Kelper are two of the hottest artists in the game right now - their output is relentless, and their quality is always high. It is now on the former's Constant Sound that they appear with three fresh new collaborative cuts aimed squarely at the floor. 'Follow Me' has nice hooky drum loops and subtle synth stabs under a seductive vocal. It's fun and functional in equal measure and on the flip things get more naughty with hints of a dirty speed garage bassline under 'Frequency'. The vibe flips again on closer 'Frequency' which has disco-tinged loops and more laidback groves that bring a little warmth and sunshine.

Review: Dutch producer Chris Stussy has been seriously busy in the past couple of years dropping slick and slender tech house on labels like Eastenderz, Rutilance, Djebali and Moscow Records. Now he appears on Constant Sound with yet more sophisticated dancefloor gold. "Take A Leap Of Faith" leads the charge with a driving yet delectably dubbed out take on peak time tech house, peppered with vocal slices and a cheeky acid rub. Relic offers up a remix that straps a sharp, swinging garage house beat to the track with excellent results. "Point Loma" is a funky workout with some cracking slap bass hits, and "Limerence" gets a little quirky without losing that immersive atmosphere of the lead track.

Review: Constant Sound founders Jon Woodall and Burnski helm the label's latest 12" under their Constant name, with Dub Life featuring remixes from Blackhall & Bookless, S.A.M and A Scott. "Dub Life" is a slithering, slippery and frictionless house roller with tunnelling percussive patterns, restless drums and myriad synth smears that really pull you down into a seductive groove. Subtle vocals add character and ensure this one will keep 'floors locked for days. Jaunt pair Blackhall & Bookless then step up with a fired up, peak time techno leaning bomb with barrelling kicks, ravey stabs and Detroit referencing pads that really grab your attention. The S.A.M. reshape then offers up elastic, spaced out deep house vibes with airy hi hats, lots of height in the drums and plenty of feeling in the slithering synth lines that lace up the track. Closing out the package is a remix from returning label artist A Scott, whose fine remix is a lovably flabby and cavernous track with oodles of reverb, rattling train track like grooves and atmospheric pads that swirl all around you as you drift in his air beats.

Review: Four new tracks from EB Flow mark the latest release from the ever prolific Constant Sound label, as ever providing solid and dependable dancefloor gear that boasts a myriad of different flavours. 'Sunshine' wastes no time setting up a strutting, Van Helden-esque groove and lets it roll, adding a few vaguely nostalgic samples on top. 'Running' has more of a breaks feel, harking back to the days of rave's roots when breaks and acid could sit together naturally rather than in different genre pigeonholes. 'Before' is the most minimal of the four, peppered with frisky garage snares and a subtle but ultimately devastating filter breakdown, while a feelgood gospel-style vocal gives the closer, 'Searching', a lovely optimistic tint. Constant Sound continue to deliver.

Here he links up with Burnski aka Instinct's Constant Sound label for four more irresistible nuggets. 'The Greater Good' is super quick as it glides over rippling bass with silky chords, then 'Newbie Bounce' has a more weighty groove. There is elastic funk and US swing in the shuffling goodness of 'Flow Groover' then 'On Edge' closes out with bulky deep house beats and late-night synth work of the highest order.

At this stage the influence of early deep techno is as powerful as any kind of modern stripped down house sound, and that comes through in abundance on the shimmering, ambient-tinged "Spaceport". "Dynamics" maintains the celestial trajectory of the record, but with a more looped up, bleep-led approach, while "Meditate" draws upon some of the more familiar tropes of minimal house. "Spherical" finishes the EP off with another set of ethereal pad tones and a crisp, snaking beat for adventurous dancefloor trippers.

"The Story Unfolds" leads the way with a set of slick and slender rhythms locked into a quintessential minimal house swing, with plenty of subtle micro sampling bubbling away between the beats. "VSHL" has a chunkier disposition, using bolder percussive strokes that punch in unison with the wobbly synth lines. "Perseid" is a trippy affair loaded with zippy effects and dubby effects, and then "H15" rounds the EP out with a resolutely deep 4/4 meditation.

His Karousel alias pops up from time to time too, this time on Burnski's unrelenting Constant Sound label. "In Somnium" has a luxurious acidic rub to it thanks to the nagging monosynth bassline coursing throughout, but this rave-baiting trope is balanced out by airy pads and a sleek tech house beat. "Come Inside" is a more knotty affair, using all kinds of organic samples and a more detailed sound palette to whip up some dancefloor magic, and then "Angel" completes the set with a lighter, subtly off-kilter mood to greet the first rays of dawn.

Just listen to the lately bass and tough beat driving 'Contact' and you'll know exactly what we mean. Review: Next up on Constant Sound is Berlin based Diego Krause. This time there are no remixes, just 3 solid club tracks from a producer who is really on form.

Bump Strasse (8:57)
Review: Gottwood residents Krywald & Farrer have been slipping out some choice club wares on digital for a fair few years now, not to mention running the Persies label among many others. But now they make their first appearance on wax for none other than the mighty, prolific Constant Sound. "Landing On Mars" blows open the creativity of these two fast-rising producers in spectacular style, fusing taut drum machine propulsion with loose percussion and cosmically charged synths. "Olympus" is a fair contrast with its gnarly acid line and peppy tempo, while "Pulverise" makes use of a breakbeat to weave something spooky and sinuous in equal measure. "Bump Strasse" finishes things off with some tasteful, dusty deep house for the late morning crew.

Metodic (7:16)
Adjuvant Register (7:14)
Candva Cumva (8:12)
Review: Burnski's Constant Sound imprint continues its fine run of form via a rock-solid EP from prolific Romanian duo NTFO. Continuing the vibe of the pair's original recent releases, opener 'Metodic' sits somewhere between driving European tech house and chunky, melody-rich deep house - all restless bass, spacey aural textures, reverb-laden lead lines and crispy drum sounds. Flipside opener 'Adjuvant Register' opts for a warmer but no less impactful or hypnotic blend of tech-house and deep house elements, while closing cut 'Candva Cumva' is a forthright and funky take on the more intergalactic end of the tech-house spectrum.

Timeless (6:22)
Clutch (7:03)
Correlation (6:35)
Review: After debuting his Pakzad moniker on Infiltrate last year, Justin Pak makes the leap to Burnski's Constant Sound with this assured set of electro workouts built for the modern age. "Timeless" is a snappy, vibrant cut with a serious amount of techno propulsion to match the crooked funk of the beats. "Clutch" has a more trippy, melodic twist, while "Correlation" hunkers down into a more backroom vibe as detailed as it is freaky. This is seriously executed electro from a fast-rising talent - nab a copy, drop it into a set and watch the bodies writhe.

Gadget Crew (Skins Junglist Crew remix) (5:45)
Review: Constant Sound is one of the many labels Burnski aka Instinct is heading up right now and they are all as good as each other. This one focuses on house and tech sounds and welcomes Adam Pitts to the fam with three standouts. 'Gadget Crew' opens up and has a big, high-energy groove with plenty of oversized drum sounds and a retro melody paired with an intriguing soulful vocal. It has a dark garage tinge and is perfect for late-night action. 'Just This Once' is tough and physical, with warped and naughty bass and thwacking great hits irresistible to all. Last all comes a Skins Junglist Crew remix which is exactly that - a fine one for the jungle heads.

Call For House
Review: Constant Sound is back with more of its constantly good sonics, this time from Dennis Quin who offers up a potent blend of raw minimal, tech and house. 'My Belief' is the sort of cut to get clubs marching as one to the jacked-up drums and whirring synth motifs. 'Hear Dis' has plenty of infectious garage skip to it and 'Eighty Four' layers up slick percussion with bumping drum funk and some nice exotic vocal samples. There will be an all-out party whenever 'Call For House' gets dropped with its wild synth lines and yelling vocals perfect for amping up the crowd.

Raw Moments (original) (6:45)
Raw Moments (Burnski remix) (6:38)
Raw Moments (Nails Smoke Dub) (7:17)
Review: Although only a few months have passed since Constant Sound was first minted, the label run by Burnski and Jon Woodall is now ready to unleash its fourth EP. Entitled Raw Moments, it features a hot original by Paolo Rocco and is backed with accomplished remixes from the legendary Nail as well as boss man Burnski.
Canadian Rocco is well known on the Montreal circuit for his broad and energetic DJ sets, whilst he has also cracked the Beatport charts with his own tunes, namely 'Move Body, Move Forward' on Klasse, as well as with follow ups on Real Tone. He impresses once again here with 'Raw Moments', a track that does exactly what it says on the tin.
The whole track is built upon rock solid kick drums that bounce and bobble about as curious bird sounds and gloopy synths dart about next to cow bells and hi hats. It's expertly lively and robust.
First to re-imagine the track is Burnski, who injects some seriously fat bass, a subtle sense of shuffle and infectiously crafted grooves laden with dub motifs and rich reverb. It's perfectly designed for no frills and non stop dancing, frankly.
Last to remix is DIY Discs man, Classic Music Company associate and all round house tastemaker Nail. His Smoke Dub is a bulky house jam with buffed metal melodies, squelchy drums and sci-fi synth sounds that is deep, stays low and is perfect for back room basements.
This label might only be on its fourth release, but already it has announced itself as a go to outlet for fans of fresh intelligent sounding house, and this release only confirms that.

Review: Burnski's excellent Constant Sound keeps up the vibes with a new one from Rossi, a newcomer who impressed last time out on Eastenderz. His popping tech house and garage is catchy from the off where 'Who Am I' layers up nice cosmic pads and spaced out atmospheres while pounding drums make you move. 'Sunrise' is anot4her silky smooth and dynamic deep tech garage cut while 'Mima' has rubbery drums and bass that pull you deep down into a nice warm world of underground sound. 'Break 518' rides a rugged breakbeat that is kinetic and crisp, while snappy snares do a fine job of keeping you locked up top.

Lets Go (6:37)
Review: Constant Sound strides into 2021 with a fresh four-tracker from Casey Spillman, a rising star of tech-house whose impressive releases on Infuse and LOCUS still get plenty of plays. As you'd expect, there's much to set the pulse racing across the EP, from the clandestine thrills of opener 'Up & Away'- all warped analogue bass motifs, brain-melting vocal snippets, sturdy kick-drums and jazzy percussive fills - to the skipping, bass-heavy shuffle of deep house/tech-house fusion number 'Let's Go'. Sandwiched in between you'll find the paranoid, slightly foreboding 'Big Steppers', which reminded us a little of Orbital's more minimalistic cuts, and the deep space tech-house shimmer of 'Right Order'.

Review: Making his first appearance on Constant Sound, Subb-An comes correct with the deadly breaks flow of "Access" that pivots neatly between bass music and the minimal house blueprint. "Rewire" is a much lighter affair thanks to a classy chord sound that modulates at the core of the track, bringing a melodic hook into the mix to wonderful effect. Burnski and Michael James then team up as Relic to deliver a remix of "Rewire" that's heavy on the funk, doing a great job of tweaking that chord line and pouring some serious heft into the lower regions of the frequency range.

Review: Vinyl Speed Adjust have conquered a lot of labels in their time, ranging from BodyParts to Pressure Traxx, Visionquest to Pleasure Zone. Representing a different twist on the Romanian minimal sound, the pairing of Andrei Predoi & Claudiu-Eduard Balan now find themselves on Constant Sound dropping the subtly psychedelic tech house trip out, "Semantic Expressions". As if the trance-inducing original wasn't enough, we're also treated to gold-standard remixes from Mike Shannon and DoubtingThomas, both of whom bring their glittering score cards in the minimal fraternity to two distinct but complementary versions of Vinyl Speed Adjust's track.

Capricorn Meet Leo (The Persuader remix)
Review: "Completing a quick fire trio of new EPs, Constant Sound hits release number six with a pair of new tracks from VRSION that come with a dance floor friendly remix from Persuader. VRSION is a German producer who has already made a big impact with his release on Craig Richards' excellent The Nothing Special label. Following up that in fine style is the opener here, 'Torn', which is a hurried and urgent track that sits on the divide between house and techno. It is driven and slick, rubbery and hypnotic but has plenty of nuance and funk in its well programmed drums. Some occult sounds and wordless vocals embellished the whole thing and it really is the sort of track that blows dance floors apart and will stand out in any set. 'Capricorn Meet Leo' then toys with kinked drum patterns, rattling percussion and fathom deep bass that sucks you right into VRSION's world. It's a restless place where harmonies ride up and down the scale, cause claps come at you from odd angles and dark vocals add a sense of paranoia. Remixing this one is Persuader, who does so with a stripped back sense of restrain. he retains the original's weirdness, but layers in serene pads and tripped out atmospherics that really make it ripe for playing at 4am. This is the most adventurous release yet for Constant Sound, and is sure to prove one of its bets as a result."
