Let's Edit Together (3:56)
Award Tour (Green mix) (3:57)
Review: Vancouver-based DJ and producer Nick Bike is in a fine run of form with a number of slick 7" edits landing all in the same small timeframe. After recently tackling East Oakland rapper Too Short's 'Blow The Whistle' he now looks to Al Green's iconic 'Let's Stay Together.' He lets swooning strings open with a luxuriant vibe before a more driving back beat powers things along as the original vocal comes in. 'Award Tour' (Green mix) takes the original melodies and adds them to a rolling hip hop beat with some more contemporary rap styles delivered over the top.

Blow The Whistle '79 (3:48)
Unbelievable (Express Youself mix) (4:09)
Review: Vancouver-based DJ and producer Nick Bike here recasts lyrics by East Oakland rapper Too Short's 'Blow The Whistle' in his own fine and inimitable style. The original - a hyphy track aimed right at the floor, with bubbling synth bass - came in 2006 and was produced by Lil-Jon and here is returned to its 70s funk roots. Donna Summer's 1979 chart-topping hit 'Bad Girls' gets sampled and dropped int this new version with extra whistles, chanted mantras plenty of sure fire, disco-ready energy. It's a reinvigorated hip hop anthem destined for hardcore spin backs once the clubs reopen.

Let's Edit Together (3:58)
Award Tour (Green mix) (3:57)
Review: Black Buffalo are a unique outfit hailing from Nova Scotia, producing a retroized take on funk and boom-bap, and having done so since 2016. Nick Bike, resident mainstay of the label, is an all-rounder. A self-described open-format DJ, his sole purpose is to please the crowd, and the crowd only. Such a feat can only be achieved by the making of specialised re-edits. This latest 7", to add to Bike's pile, re-chops Al Green's 'Let's Stay Together' to instrumental, slowed-down, club-readiness.

Knee Deep (edit) (4:12)
Mothership Bonus Beats (remix) (3:56)
Review: If you dig a decent cover or an essential edit, then you will be more than familiar with Jorun Bombay. The Canadian artist is a leader in his field and a prolific one, too, who puts out plenty of material in a constant stream. Here he takes on Parliament classics. His version of 'Knee Deep' with its extra bass weight and shrill synth lines bring the party vibes thanks to the feel good pianos. 'Mothership Bonus Beats' on the flip is a late night, slow and sleazy jam to get you in the mood. The squelchy synth bass is to die for, the drawn out horns linger long in the air making it a perfectly steamy cut.

Comin' Like A Rhino (A Jorun Bombay edit - Rebel remix) (3:45)
The B-Side Won (A Jorun Bombay edit) (4:16)
Review: True school hip hop producer Jorun Bombay is a master of the edit and always brings classic '80s and '90s approaches to production. He's had a busy year in 2020 but has still found time to turn out one more 7", this time on Canada's Back Buffalo. First up he takes his decision tools to 'Comin' Like A Rhino', layers in the big stabs, draws out the breaks and generally ensures maximum destruction. 'The B Side Won' is another high impact weapon with plenty of mad effects, rolling beats and big hits that come with fresh raps primed and ready to detonate the floor.

Fliplights (A Jorun Bombay remix) (2:29)
Review: Sample-digging mash-up maestro Jorun Bombay has decided to mark the fifth anniversary of his Black Buffalo Records imprint by offering up a string of seven-inch singles featuring some of his most sought-after bootleg reworks. He kicks off the first instalment in the series with 'NBTT', a head-nodding, toe-tapping gem that elements of Biz Markie's 1987 single 'Nobody Beats The Biz' with tough-but-bouncy new beats and subtle instrumental samples. Over on the flip there's a chance to savour 2016 single 'Fliplight', a killer hip-hop style revision of Parliament classic 'Flashlight' that's guaranteed to get dancefloors poppin'.

Celebration Is In The Heart (A Jorun Bombay remix) (4:07)
Concrete Jungle Groove (A Jorun Bombay remix) (4:19)
Review: To mark the fifth anniversary of Black Buffalo Records, Jorun Bombay has decided to remake some of the earliest mash-ups and remixes he released on the imprint, with this "45" boasting a fresh take on 2016 single 'Concrete Jungle (Boogie)' - a genuine dancefloor killer that peppers a punchy, up-tempo hip-hop beat with elements of Kool and the Gang classic 'Jungle Boogie'. Arguably even better is A-side 'Celebration in the Heart', a borderline genius fusion of two of the best-loved party classics of all time: Dee-Lite's 'Groove is in the Heart' and Kool and the Gang's 'Celebration'. Like mixing peanut butter and jam, it just works.

Planet Edit 1 (4:16)
Planet Edit 2 (2:11)
Review: Having spent much of the recent portion of his career crafting high quality mash-ups and sneaky Jackson family re-edits, former hip-hop beat-maker Jorun Bombay has flipped the script a little of late. Like his previous release, "The Space Jazz-Funk Experience", "The Planets Edit" sees the Canadian producer getting busy with an all time intergalactic jazz-funk classic. A-side "Planet Edit 1" sets the tone, rearranging a space funk workout that's light on drums but heavy on Moog solos, drowsy electric piano chords, warm bass and hazy guitar riffs. You'll find a more floor-friendly outing on the flip, where "Planet Edit 2" underpins deep space synth solos with crunchy, head-nodding hip-hop style funk beats.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Record has light surface marks/scratches, but otherwise in perfect working condition***

Jorun Bombay is one of Canada's most influential hip-hop protagonists and his fantastic cover of the recently turned 80 year old Roy Ayers in the form of 'Revisiting The Sunshine' is one of his biggest tunes. A recent reissue on white vinyl sold out in quick time so now comes another chance to own it, this time on black wax. This one followed Jorun's recent edit series and is authentic to its soulful core. As summer fades away and autumn looms, keep the sunny vibes alive with this golden, heart warming version. On the flip is something just as sunny - a fine version of 'Funky Sensation' that gets a precision Bombay treatment.

Aussie DJ Bacon runs his very own DJ, edits, mixes, and label operation as a one-man production line. With over 25 years of experience under his belt, this living, breathing musical conveyor belt is responsible for a smattering of old school hip hop, funk, b-boy and rock re-edits, most of which are cut to vinyl in quick bursts. This time, the former Queensland DMC champion spews forth a charming pair of edits on limited red, 7" vinyl. The first is a juddering version of The Mossie's 'Nobody Can Be You But You', with its new title executing a careful pun on the genre name, nu-disco. On the B is a titular nod to Omar S, in a downbeat dub of Sly And The Family Stone's 'Thank You'.

Review: DJ Bacon is back with a fresh offering of not b-boy breaks, but rather two hip-hop remixes celebrating some of the more optimistic corners of funk and boom bap. 'Don't Say Nothin' reworks Black Thought by bringing some extra funky and laid-back tones to their mix, while the Mos Def classic 'Ms. Fat Booty' is given a similar treatment on the B-side. Review: DJ Bacon is back with a fresh offering of b-boy breaks, this time increasingly laden with funk and African stylings. 'Don't Say Nuthin' hushes our restlessness with straight-up vocal siftage from Black Thought's verse on The Roots' 2004 original, while 'Ms. Fat Booty' does the same for Mos Def. Roar, rumbling and raucous, this isn't a breaks reworks release to be relegated, but rather revered.

Review: Two more collectible tunes on a single red vinyl record are added to the compulsive hoard. On the A-side comes 'Nobody Can Be Nu', a clever rework of Steve Arrington's turning-point funk hit from 1983 blended with scissored-up and spliced-in rap acapellas from modern rapper Grand Puba. The flip is a remix of 'Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself' by Sly And The Family Stone, also cut up and stuck back together with Puba, and with no end of motivational stock samplework to boot.

Review: DJ Bacon is an Australian hip-hop veteran who has got a wealth of new music dropping right now. Chief amongst that is this first volume of his Safari Scars which again finds him serving up fusion sounds that collide different eras and genres into all-new dancefloor dynamite. This is a selection of cuts taken from the album of the same name where he blends African rare groove samples with 90s rap vocals in his own way. Review: DJ Moves has a new album coming, Moves Presents Hiss 3 Hissterectomy, and this new single on the a-side is taken from it. Touch provides the raps to Moves' beats and the whole thing is a big ode to the herb, with chunky and funky bass riffs, rumbling drums and laid back vibes. On the flip, its the booze that gets the spotlight with an ode to drinking. It's super quick and slick and is taken from the Low Pressure Records album "Fatt Matt and Big Moves Rusty Hooks" released in 2010. Both tracks bang with tongue in cheek messages and sound real ripe in warm summer days.

Review: Black Buffalo continues its string of 7" releases with a pair of brand new tunes from Trew remixing two classic hip-hop cuts here. Sam & Dave's 'Rich Kind Of Poverty' gets an instrumental flip, while Otis Redding's timelessly emotive number 'On The Dock Of The Bay' gets a rather incredible boom-bap remix. The latter's production is especially roomy and tight, with added shakers, string lilts and fills making for an indubitably nostalgic track that does true justice to Redding's original vision.
