Review: If you've ever wondered where Italy's obsession with dark, moody, industrial-tinged techno comes from, look no further than this freshly reissued 1991 EP from Leo Anibaldi. Of the six tracks, it's the EP-opening title track that remains the most potent and historic cut, with its blend of hard acid and metallic percussion hits helping to define the Roman style of industrial techno that was further developed and refined by his friend Lory D. That said, there are plenty of treats elsewhere across the EP, from the raw rave stabs and druggy drums of 'Rhythm', and the twisted, breakbeat-driven insanity of 'Bassbar', to the Larry Heard style deep house of 'Universal' and the bleeping, acid-fired brilliance of 'Odissey March'.

Techno
  1. Where's Your Child? (5:12)
  2. Bonus Beat (3:27)
Review: Bam Bam is an old school techno legend and 'Where is Your Child?' is one of his most essential acid cuts. Back to Life is a young label but by reissuing this one on vital one sided 12", it continues its early run of form. Originally released on Bam Bam's own Westbrook Records in 1988, this is the records only fully licensed repress after more than thirty years, and it also includes a Bonus Beat tune. The original is of course where its at - scintillating drums, dark and lacking percussion and haunting vocals, all run through with a caustic acid line. Pure rave perfection.

Techno
  1. Damn Right (4:52)
  2. Reckless (6:13)
  3. Dance (6:25)
  4. Soundclash (5:29)
Review: Format is the allies of the assured veteran Orlando Voorn and now one of his many classic EPs gets a solid reissue treatment from Back To Life. This is lively club music that comes from the place where house and techno meet. 'Damn Right' will get you up on your toes with its busy drum programming and soulful synths. 'Reckless' is then unhinged soulful techno with mad chords and bleeps, 'Dance' is an old school, euro-tinged house anthem with big chords and bigger vocals and 'Soundclash' brings a more twisted late night rave sound - all of these tracks are true weapons.

Deep House
  1. Morning Factory (Dubplate) (7:32)
Review: There are few more iconic or influential deep house cuts than Ron Trent and Chez Damier's 1995 collaboration "Morning Factory". Reportedly inspired by the very particular vibe of early mornings at important early '90s NYC club Sound Factory, the track has remained a staple of late-night DJ sets for the last quarter of a century. Here the track gets the reissue treatment in the superior unabridged, nine-minute-plus "dubplate" mix form. For those that have not heard it, "Morning Factory" provides a near perfect fusion of spaced-out early morning chords, trippy electronic motifs, tactile synth-bass, swirling noises and softly shuffling, hypnotic beats. Basically, it's one of the best deep house tracks ever made and if you don't own a copy already, you should grab one of these ASAP!
