Notturno Italiano
Cat: AR 018. Rel: 13 Jan 20

Disco/Nu-Disco
Notturno Italiano (4:25)
Ho Perso Tutto (4:30)
Sei Ancora Buono (4:31)
Fortuna (4:07)
Review: Silky smooth Italian disco delights abound on this reissue from the ever reliable Archeo. Originally released in 1983, Mario Acquaviva's sought-after Balearic hit gets a much deserved repress to curb the sharks and bring these evergreen grooves to a wider audience. There are plentiful studio touchstones to appreciate here - a little whisper of Supertramp and Steely Dan alongside more overt disco grooves, with lead track "Notturno Italiano" being the stand-out hit. With a more mellow B-side including the sultry "Fortuna", this is a record as much about pure listening pleasure as party scenarios - sit back and let the sumptuous sound envelop you.

Review: Originally released in 1999, the cultish reputation of the mysterious Blindboy's sole offering to the world has attained it a high second hand value, and so Archeo Recordings have done the right thing and actioned a reissue. This limited edition in particular comes on wonderful red marbled vinyl. Ruckus In Lo Fi is steeped in Balearic guitar tones, downbeat hip hop cuts and forays into sumptuous jazz funk. There's also a remix from Joe Morris, who fashions a brooding, epic remix of "I Dream" loaded with simmering tension without losing the funky warmth of the original. With all kinds of mellow pouring out of this one, any stone cold chillers out there won't want to sleep on this one.

Shadows From Nowhere (5:31)
Marie (4:50)
Manu Acheo - "Shadows From Nowhere (There Are Shadows Because There Are Hills)" (extended edit) (7:41)
Review: Archeo Records are at it again with another fine curio from the hidden corners of Italian electronic music history. This time it's the turn of Blue Gas, a one-off electronic disco project from Celso Valli that originally came to light back in 1983. The title track is a sumptuous Balearic diggers dream, all airy pads and laid back funk basslines. Elsewhere "Marie" is a surprisingly uptempo B-side, although here it's squeezed onto the A-side to make room for Manu Acheo's extended edit of "Shadows From Nowhere" which pleasingly drapes itself across the full spread of the B-side.

Review: Archeo Recordings bring us some more Balearic Italian treasure here with some gold initially recorded in Bologna almost two decades ago. It's a collaboration between friends Bottin and Lucio Dalla that has never before been on vinyl. 'Lunedi Cinema' was an ident that played before Monday night movies on of one of the main Italian TV channels for many years. This electronic version includes the Martedi Mix from 2008, a Minibar Bonus Track and also a mix by pioneering Italian dream house dons Leo Mas & Fabrice with a Bottin dub sealing the deal. It's a superb package of real Italo music history.

Je Na' (Mario Boncaldo original 1983 special mix)
Pagaia (Mario Boncaldo original 1983 special mix)
Review: Like many of the greatest Italo-disco records, Tony Esposito's 1983 double A-side "Je-Na'"/"Pagaia" is ridiculously rare. Put it this way: if you fancy nabbing yourself an original copy, it will make a serious dent in your wallet. This welcome reissue presents both tracks in their original 12" glory, mixed with clubs in mind by Mariano Boncaldo of Klein & M.B.O fame. It's the A-side that's arguably the pick of the pair, featuring as it does a Balearic-friendly blend of dense, bongo-laden rhythms, tribal chants and delay-heavy guitars. There's a bit more of a hazy disco bounce to "Pagaia", which sounds a little like a long lost Tullio de Piscopo record - all jazz-fusion scat singing, sunny horns and shuffling rhythms.

All releases are hand-numbered limited edition vinyl. The first 100 copies of each release are pressed in coloured vinyls. This first release is dedicated to the sought- mix "Je -na / Pagaia" by Tony Esposito 1983 - cult record and more and more "expensive" - which is a rarity of Afro-cosmic Italian music. A very popular piece at the time and fortunately returned in vogue today thanks to many followers, DJs and lovers to the great "Balearic" family. The music of Tony Esposito is inspired by sounds from many countries around the world, mixing tribal rhythms with Neapolitan melodies, well represented by the track "Je -na", where the wide range of styles is manifested in its hypnotic sounds and rhythm in his percussion. The two tracks were born in 1983 after a trip to Jamaica and were composed together with Pino Daniele. The style and sound of these two pieces reflects the influence of Bob Marley and his group, with whom Tony Esposito has worked both in Italy and in Kingston Town, Jamaica .

Balearic/Downtempo
Hear & Now (Land Of Sunshine remix) (8:27)
Hear & Now (original version) (5:07)
Hear & Now (Onda Nueva remix) (6:10)
Review: Tony Esposito originally released 'Kalimba De Luna' in 1984, and it went on to become a huge hit. Balearic before Balearic was a thing, the track features the perfect balance of smooth 80s musicality and balmy, wistful sentiment, proving so popular it would be covered by a huge swathe of artists including Boney M. Archeo are giving the release a proper reissue treatment, and they're shifting the focus of the record by handing the track over to production duo Here & Now. This more overtly escapist 'Land Of Sunshine' version strings the track out in a reverb soaked reverie, coming on positively new age in the face of the sprightly pop of the 1984 original. Then Here & Now's 'Onda Nueva' version closes proceedings out in a blissed-out cosmic stylee.

Review: Archeo Recordings chart a course for the Balearics with this laid back delight of overlooked Italian island grooves. Tony Esposito is a long-serving singer-songwriter, and two tracks from his 2004 CD Viaggio Tribale get a vinyl cut here. "Dove C'e Luce" gets a special, 90s tinged remix from LucaEffeSunset. Antonio Nicola Bruno's "Storia Della Terra Mia" is the first of three unreleased tracks from this little known Lucan artist, striking a curious note with folk undertones and a sunny disposition. There's a more dramatic tone to "Danza E Ridanza," which takes on an almost Talking Heads-esque quality for the "B Version" that closes this high quality 12" from the ever reliable Archeo camp.

Review: Relative newcomers Infradisco blend a Balearic sound of disco and house for the Italian label Archeo Recordings. Aqua Cheta is a blend of proper electronic examples of Balearic and chill out influences. 'Caduca' (Hear & Now remix) is ideal for the late-night scene with a blend a perfect blend of 80s and 90s but still sounding futuristic. Manu Archeo's remix of 'Dulcis' is a beautiful laid back downtempo jam that shimmers like a hazy day on the beach. We think you will like the organic and mystical 'Fluminea' as well. This EP couldn't finish any better than on the ambient tip with a soul warming float on the marina remix by Ocean Moon. Fans of Balearic, Cafe Del Mar and chill out music will treasure this EP no doubt. This 12" comes with a CD as well.

Review: Archeo come through with another stunning relic dusted down from a forgotten corner of Italian music culture. Fulvio Maras, Alfredo Posillipo and Luca Proietti originally released Sfumature back in 1992, and it's quite the spectacle to behold. Minimal synths provide an underlay for the tense sustained pads and Maras' tumbling percussion on "Panico Iniziale", while nimble hand drums spiral around woozy brass and delicate chimes on "Trombe Di Alfredo". The mood gets seductively dreamy on "Amori" thanks in no small part to the double bass playing at its core. Highly accomplished, inquisitive and utterly satisfying music occupying its own unique space.

"Safari of love" is bloody unique, a true visionary oddity, filled with strange breaks, sound design, mumbling voices, crazy pre-acid echoes bouncing everywhere, and majestic, typically italian-OST strings and keyboards.

This epic space jam hit where it hurts and showed no mercy. Beyond evil production by Allan Goldberg (producer/arranger for Santo, Slang, Azoto, Gaznevada) with Vince Tempera killing it on keys, you can't go wrong on this drugged out monster!
This sounds next level even now, you can only imagine what it must have sounded like in 1977, a mighty beast that kicks the discoball out of the stratosphere!

"On the safari of love
that's where you'll find me.

On the safari of love
that's where you'll find me.

Hunting or hunted
on the safari of love."

Miro used to paint his beard in GREEN at that period! Check the original videos! Fantastic!!

Review: Radio Band's "Radio Rap" - the one and only single by a group of DJs from the Radio Fantasy pirate station - has long been an in-demand gem with Italo-disco diggers and Balearic heads alike. With original copies both hard to find and expensive (currently hovering around the L60 mark online), it's great to see Archeo Recordings giving the 1984 cut a much-needed reissue on heavyweight vinyl. The quirky vocal version - a loose and funky disco-rap record with additional boogie synths and all Italian vocals - is accompanied by the superb instrumental version, which perfectly showcases Danilo Ciarchi's superb production.

Archeo know how to hunt down a rare jam and give it the kind of reissue it deserves, so who better to handle this job? Tonica & Dominante was a studio project conceived by Antonio Iglio and Antonio Moxedano, which yielded a couple of singles and an album at the end of the 70s. It's a warm, organic sound before Italo disco swerved hard towards synthesisers and drum machines, and you can see why anyone digging for the rarest grooves would go crazy for the two tracks on this previously rare-as-hell 7". This new Archeo version ports the original tracks onto 12" and folds in two tasteful, clubbed-up dub mixes from Leo Mas & Fabrice.
