Dego & The 2000 Black Family (12" Nachpressung)
Cat: NERO 028T. Rel: 19 Mar 18
  1. Don't Stop (Let It Go) (feat Izzi Dunn) (7:18)
  2. Save It Til Later (4:49)
Review: Assisted by long-time studio partner Kaidi Tatham, former 4 Hero man Dego's been on fire of late, delivering killer singles - and a fine album - for the likes of Eglo and Rush Hour. Here he pops up on Neroli again with more superb, soul-flecked dancefloor fare. "Don't Stop (Let It Go)" is particularly potent, offering a disco and jazz-funk influenced chunk of celebratory deep house laden with thrilling live instrumentation from members of "the 2000 Black family" (Tatham and others, basically). He completely flips the script on "Save It Till Later", a refreshingly rough and ready chunk of bass-heavy, acid-flecked house/techno fusion that benefits greatly for some particularly warped electronics. Darkness and light on one 12"; what's not to like?

Takes Tomah (12" Nachpressung) (1 per customer)
Cat: 000. Rel: 19 Mar 18
  1. Track 1 (6:36)
  2. Track 2 (6:55)
Review: This tasty 12" sees Italian crate diggers Twice and Volcov each have a go at reworking a 1979 jazz-funk workout from one of krautrock's lesser-celebrated outfits. The original - which, in case you fancy looking it up, isn't actually called "Tomah" - is a brilliant fusion of Brazilian influenced rhythms, sparring electric piano solos and relentless bass. Twice's A-side version maintains the essence of the original, expertly rearranging and extending the various solos to create a mind-altering chunk of breathless dancefloor bliss. Volcov takes a slightly different approach on the flip, turning it into a rolling samba-house groover complete with fluttering clarinet solos. Both versions are superb, and sound like summer anthems in the making.

Wild Thing EP (12" Nachpressung)
Cat: MOSCOW 022. Rel: 19 Mar 18
  1. Confusion (7:30)
  2. Dos Equis (7:48)
  3. Wild Thing (8:13)
Review: Archie Hamilton is having a pretty good year, all told. Remarkably, this EP is his sixth of the year to date, following quietly confident appearances on Fuse London, Tied and Parliamnt. Impressively, there's a fair bit of variety to be found across the three tracks. Contrast, for example, the rolling tech-house/deep house fusion of opener "Confusion" - all tactile, looped riffs, rising acid lines and chunky beats - with the bouncy "Dos Equis", where woozy vocal samples ride an elastic, funk-fuelled bassline and locked-in beats. Arguably best of all, though, is flipside "Wild Thing" - a punchy late night workout full of trippy riffs, bustling bass, razor-sharp acid lines and jazzy-but-driving deep house beats.

  3. Vainlight (Rezoned) (6:36)
  4. 2DS (6:02)
Review: Adam Feingold once again dons the Ex Terrestrial alias, this time for an outing on box fresh Canadian imprint NAFF. He's in a typically melodious and glassy-eyed mood on the A-side, where "Portal Living (Kali)" and "Portal Living (Plain)" provide two contrasting takes on the producer's warm and wavy interpretation of early Italian dream house. "Vanilight (Re-Zoned)" sounds like his tactile take on obscure bleep pioneers DJ Martin and DJ Homes' brilliant (but little-known) bass-heavy remixes of Man Machine's "Animal", while closer "2DS" is a kaleidoscopic slice of deep musical bliss that sits somewhere between original New Jersey deep house and the turn-of-the-'90s Soul II Soul sound.

  3. Hard Tymes (8:27)
Review: Trawl through Glenn Underground's vast discography and you'll frequently come across sought-after gems ripe for the reissue treatment. That appears to be what Italian reissue specialists Groove Records has done. GU Archives first appeared back in 2000, and bundled two hard-to-find tracks from the acclaimed Love & Hurt triple-album with the (then) previously unreleased "HardTymes" (a particularly breezy, jazzy, sun-kissed and musically rich chunk of bossa-house blessed with some particularly special vibraphone style solos). 18 years on, the EP has lost none of its sparkle, with the "Elle"-goes-Chicago deep warmth of "Stringing Me" and impeccably spacey and shimmering "Storm Raiders (Tribute to Larry Heard)" standing out. Simply essential.

  4. Track 4
Review: The Botanic Minds Sunset Series hits its second installment with more of that seductive minimal business we need as we hit warmer temperatures. longer days and longer parties. This 12" has already been picked up by some of the leading figures in the Romanian scene, including the one and only Raresh, so that should give you some idea of the quality contained within. The anonymous, untitled tracks all adhere to a well worn formula, but they're all executed with finesse and an attention to detail that should ensure they get played for many more sunsets to come.

Cat: LIH 027. Rel: 19 Mar 18

  2. Brown Curls (Nebraska remix)
  3. You Are A Star
  4. Those Moments
Review: The unstoppable Vogel machine is back on Lumberjacks with another serving of soul-soaked house goodness to warm the cockles as we step into Spring. This time around he's called on one of the great house vocalists of our times, Khalil Anthony, to lay down a vocal on "Brown Curls" that melts over Vogel's peppy, organic production. Nebraska bring a deeper, chunkier flavour to the track with their remix, and the results are just as captivating. Anthony's also on hand to croon over "You Are A Star", an equally simmering jam with more of that dusty house pressure from the deep end of the pool, while "Those Moments" finishes the record off on a funky, instrumental tip.

  4. Return (Blind Box mix)
Review: Commonly found rocking out on Unison Wax, Constant Sound and Pleasure Zone, Diego Krause is a certified mover and shaker in the minimal house scene, and he's on fire with this latest round of missives for Blind Box. "Malice" leads the charge with a plethora of eerie synth textures flexing organically round the sturdy beat, while "Monolith" slips into a slinkier groove while keeping the tripped out tone tweaking at the forefront of our minds. "Return" brings a tougher, fist-pumping rhythm section with a snaking syn-cussion tones trickling throughout, providing Blind Box with plenty of material to sink their gnashers into on the remix.

Cat: PFTV 012. Rel: 19 Mar 18
  1. The Inventor
  2. Night Walk
  3. In House Cafe
  4. Push It
Review: Villee is making a first appearance here on Pressed For Time, but you'd be forgiven for thinking these tracks were unearthed from the vaults of a 90s mainstay like Larry Heard or Cajmere. "The Inventor" has a crooked swing to it that could only come from an MPC, while the dusty samples and buttery bassline are pure vintage deep house goodness. "Night Walk" is delightfully looped up, keeping things simple and maintaining the depth in the process. "In House Cafe" amps up the funk a little, putting plenty of weight on the bottom end, and "Push It" taps into the sort of heady moodiness you'd expect from Kenny Dixon Jr.

Cat: BW 02. Rel: 19 Mar 18
  1. Morning Vibe
  2. Back For Good
  3. Chunchuneo
  4. Chunchuneo (Yaya remix)
Review: David Gtronic kicked off the Black Wood label with the Kryptoo 12", and now Javier Carballo swiftly follows up with the immersive tones of Morning Vibe. Carballo's sound is undoubtedly rooted in the minimal house he's turned out for One Records amongst others, but he's got a distinctive edge in his productions that makes them stand out. "Morning Vibe" in particular does so well because it matches airy pads and skittering drums with a measured lick of acid, making something truly trippy in the process. "Back For Good" pairs dubby chord pulses with shuffling hats, and "Chunchuneo" gets locked into an insistent rhythmic chug that it's tough to resist.

Review: With releases on 22a, Beat X Changers and Wolf Music, Bradley Zero is very pleased to welcome Neue Grafik onboard his revered imprint. The record itself paying homage to the Parisian house dance scene, while taking cues from the broken beat sound of London - like on the emotive slo-mo soul of "Innervision" feat Wayne Snow or "To Peckham Rye" which definitely takes its cue from Kaidi Tatham. We particularly enjoyed the very Three Chairs influenced deepness of "Dance To Yemanjaor" and the the ruff 'n' dusty MPC jam "Why You" reminiscent of Motor City Drum Ensemble's Raw Cuts series. The tracks are largely sample based, but also employ much more live instrumentation than in previous productions.

Review: Having regularly appeared on Junk Yard Connections and Banoffee Pies over the years, Adam Stromstedt has plenty going on, but he's also got the time and space for his own Lyssna label, and he returns with his first solo EP on the label. It's an accomplished record, mining the vibe of ambient techno and channeling it into contemporary production with soul-stirring results. "TST142" is a mellow groover with a trancey undercurrent, while "Reptile Boogie" swerves into blissed out electro for lazy days. "Green Room Therapy" places plaintive keys at the front of the mix and channels a little of Floating Points' magic, and then "Split Tongue" offers up the most overtly club-minded jam on the 12".

Review: After an excellent first release featuring Freerotation lynchpin Steevio, Russ Gabriel's Rivers Of Groove label returns with a pair of excursions into lush, bubbling techno from Gabriel on his own. As a first generation UK techno stalwart, it's little wonder that he can turn out productions as accomplished as these, but there's no sense that he's treading water. "Ambulate" bears the hallmarks of modular production, all twinkling, morphing synth tones chiming around a delicate beat, while "Dover Calling" favours a snappier electro palette, but both stand out from the crowd for the sheer quality in the production, the warmth in the composition and the needlepoint focus given to every shred of detail in this crucial cuts.

  1. Round 2 Reel 1

  3. Round 2 Reel 3
Review: Dana Ruh is best known as a figurehead for the mighty Brouqade, but she's equally found on many other labels in the mean time. On this occasion she's brought her distinctive, heavy grooving style to Autoreply for an examination of the artistic process in the shape of one jam, three ways. "Round 2 Reel 1" is the funkiest of the lot, using some killer swing and vibing chords to make for an upbeat, infectious yet still nicely kinked sound. "Round 2 Reel 2" takes things into a more intricate, techy headspace where snaking rhythms interlock with pockets of synth abstraction. "Round 2 Reel 3" continues that theme into a rich, exotic forest of mechanical tones for the adventurous techno trippers to zone out on.

  4. Techmoreno (Alejandro Paz remix)
Review: Ricardo Medina has popped up intermittently through the years as a wielder of hefty deep house, and so it goes on this new 12" for Wonder Stories. Take snappily titled "Mcoolaid", where the synths ping out bright and bold while the acidic bass and slamming drums keep the pressure at a constant peak, or the dark and nasty throb of "Fuego". Medina means business, and he's unabashed in his aim towards the big room peak time tech house crowd. "Techmoreno" keeps up the intensity, which gives Alejandro Paz the necessary ingredients for an equally smoking remix for the crafty jackers out there on the floor.

Review: Fresh from 96! Club U Nite returns for the first time in 18 years with some impeccable US garage vibes. "Down On Me" is a celebration of one of garage's most golden moments. All warm bass, jazzy organs and an insatiable chugging rhythm, it's so good it stretches across two versions. "In A Jazzy Mood" is a previously unreleased sprightly jacker that lives up to its name consummately while "Somewhere" twinkles with a deep, restrained touch. Sweet shuffles all-round, this is a re-launch worth paying attention to.

Review: Miguel "Pional" Barras returns for the first time since the release of his excellent debut album, When Love Hurts, on Counter Records back in 2016. Miracle also marks the Madrid-based producer's first appearance on Munich stable Permanent Vacation for almost four years. Opener "Miracle" is far dirtier and sleazier than mucj of When Love Hurts, with ultra-soulful vocals and piercing acid lines wrapping themselves around a sturdy, peak-time tech-house groove. Speaking of tech-house, there's a brilliantly bouncy bonus version in the shape of the Open Up Mix, while flipside "Tempest" combines the spiraling, synthesizer-driven riffs of big room techno with the foreboding bottom-end of early morning heads-down house.

Kicking off the A side in style is Full Take with the deep late night groove "You Got Me", while Steve Flurs take you deep into the exotic on "Putron". On the flip, the neon-lit jam by Harsh Mellow "Return Of The Funky Jam" will take you all the way back to the mid '80's (when Jamie Principle was all the rage) while The Pump Boys hand in a fine edit of The Pump Girls' 1989 hip-house jam "Get On It".

Review: Lorenzo Chiabotti resurfaces on FUSE's vinyl-only INFUSE offshoot with what may well be his most high profile release to date. The former Moscow Records and Monologue Music man starts in confident fashion on side A, unfurling the quietly melodious, rolling tech-house-funk of "Esc One", before diving deep into murkier waters via the creepy electronics, foreboding chords, heavy UKG bass and skipping beats of "Blondie Brownie Beat". It's on the flipside, though, where you'll find the strongest dancefloor moment: the buzzing bass, punchy tech-house beats and metallic electronics of title track "Each One Teach One".

Review: Australian producer Loure received plenty of props for last year's Westside Movements EP, an impressively dusty, soul-flecked and assured debut 12" on Noire & Blanche. Happily, this follow-up for Apparel Music is every bit as strong. He begins with the sumptuously jazzy, eyes-closed New Jersey deep house vibes of "Track 1", before mixing up crackly spoken word samples, muted jazz horns and dreamy, Andres style grooves on "Track 2". On the B-side, he flits between rubbery, bass-heavy, sample-heavy grooves and immaculate, electric piano-fired breakdowns on standout "Track 3", before reaching for the life-affirming synth strings on the almost overwhelmingly rush-inducing brilliance of "Track 4". Loure is clearly a star in the making so don't sleep on this one.

Review: Turkish producer Mutlu San steps up to Lessizmore as yet another example of the Belgian label being incredibly on-point when it comes to signings. The emergent talent from Istanbul has a luxurious sound that taps into the minimal vein while offering a richer spread of textures and moods than your average micro roller. "Deep Sea Mosaics" is certainly a highlight, and it's left to Tolga Fidan to do the reducing on his remix of the track. "Phylum" sees San team up with his production partner in Bartaub for a more linear beat track, but with "Subglacial Funk" he nudges a little more of that unpredictable magic into the mix without losing the dancefloor essence of the track.

Review: Tolga Fidan is seemingly on a roll of late, but in truth he's always remained committed to his process as a refined minimal maestro. His move to Finale Sessions may seem to be a step outside his usual stomping grounds, and the sound on the EP reflects this. Whether the title Lost Tapes means this material is old or not is unclear, but there's certainly a rougher, hardware-sounding approach on this record compared to the stripped down clicks he built his name on. "SJ SX - Tape 01" is still reduced in all the right places, but it comes on like a live jam of deepest psych-out techno rather than anything overtly minimal. With warmth and personality pouring out of every bar, this is a wonderful insight into another side of a long serving and much loved producer.

Review: Since the We_r House label appears to be jointly run by Berliners the Willers Brothers and Cinthie, it seems fitting that both artists make telling contributions to the imrpint's second 12". Cinthie handles side A, serving up both the early Morning Detroit techno hypnotism of "Control" and the chunky and tactile, U.S style deep house bump of "Palm Trees in Wedding". The Willers Brothers' "Goes On and On" offers a return to the locked-in dancefloor hypnotism that marks out Cinthie's EP opener, albeit with a few more dreamy melodic elements to entice the deep house heads, before those tuneful, warm and atmospheric vibes are further explored on the skipping New Jersey vibes of closer "Don't Slip".

Review: Argentina's Guti and Russia's Roustam go head to head on this new house-techno hybrid EP for the fast-evolving Trevisio imprint. The fourth EP in the series sees the two artists collaborate in the studio, and the results are unfailingly seductive - itchy house vibes all around! The opening "Re:Introduction" sets the scene with a deep, dub-fuelled house gem that lacks absolutely no energy in its charging percussion, and that's followed by an even more hypnotic blend of bass and beats thanks to the East Man Dubs remix. "Rude Track" strips the bass back in favour of more synths and heavier kicks, while "Dating A Comet" is the duo's most accomplished tune, meandering its bleepy waves to a sway of subtle delay and dubbwise flavours.

This release sees him notch up a release on Cocoon for the first time, allowing him to affix the shiny, holographic label logo into his discography alongside such top-tier imprints as Trapez, Watergate, Rekids, Visionquest and Hot Creations. "Countach" is arguably one of his most positive and sun-kissed releases to date, with the action focusing on waves of rising and falling synthesizer arpeggio lines, rising electronic orchestration and spine-tingling motifs. Kompakt Extra regular Rune Reilly Kolsch retains some of this fluttering melodiousness on his flipside remix, combining key melodic phrases with more energetic beats and a raw new bassline of his own.

Review: Fresh from the recent release of his killer Vinum 12" on Let's Play House, Salzburg sort Bernard Weiss brings his Demuja project to Madhouse for the very first time. The EP is headed up by "Come To Me", a rubbery chunk of classic deep house rich in saucer-eyed vocal samples, lilting Rhodes chords, bustling stabs and crunchy machine drums. Folamour's accompanying remix naturally pushes the track further towards warm and woozy deep house territory - via the box marked "glassy-eyed late night positivity" - before Demuja unfurls two fantastic bonus cuts. Of the pair, it's "Take", a tribute to early New Jersey deep house rich in buzzing synth-sax and memorable chord progressions, that arguably hits home hardest.

  4. Parabel (7:32)
Review: Shimmering slow-mo soul from Berlin's Luca Musto. Smoky, unhurried and loaded with delicate emotion, it's another Balearic motherload as we're plunged into foggy trumpets and jazzy swirls on "Let Me Down", immersed in whirling reverse tones and dusty Bonoboesque haziness on "Once Upon A Grind" and taken on a bluesy one-way trip to Norway on "Parabel". Loire's deep chug remix seals the deal. Stunning.

Review: It is over to Danish producer Brian Desos Logstrup aka Desos now, for the fourth edition on Slow Down - following up some great ones by the likes of DJ Aakmael and The Nathaniel X Project. "House party" is an emotive, swing-fuelled groove that has already received great feedback from dancefloors across the world. The sultry deepness of "I Luv" takes it cues from classic Kenny Dixon Jr. while "Move" gets dusty and hypnotic on you in style. The release now comes with an added remix from the girl who is everywhere right now - Berlin based Cinthie of Beste Modus fame. We enjoyed her sexy and bumpin' rendition as much as the original in fact.

Review: There's little info out there about the identity of those behind the Pantamamba project. It would be interesting to know who's responsible, though, because this debut 12" is really rather good. The general idea is the fusion of electronic sounds and drums - think dream house chords, classic New Jersey deep house bass and, in the case of sweaty closer "SLXSA-42", ragged TB-303 acid lines - with live percussion and instrumentation borrowed from various traditional forms of South American and Asian music. It's not a wholly unusual idea - others have a made a career from such fusions - but rarely has it been done in such a giddy and thrill-a-minute way. As debut EPs go, NK Experience is certainly one of the more intriguing we've heard in recent times.

Review: It would be fair to say that Javontte (AKA original '90s deep house producer Brian Garrett) has been making up for lost time. Since returning to action in 2016, he's released no less than ten 12" singles, all of which have been packed with high quality material. Predictably, it's hard to find fault with the five fine tracks featured on Garrett's first contribution to the Let's Play House "White" series. Check, for example, the bumpin' '90s deep house warmth of opener "Just Listen", where ascending electric piano lines rise above toasty chords and sneaky vocal samples, and the feel-good roll of "Capricorn". Elsewhere, we recommend the spacey bounce of "City to City People", which also features a wobbly, D&B style bassline, and the laidback dancefloor jazziness of evocative closer "Organic J Mix 2".

  4. Breakfast Cereals (7:23)
Review: Montpellier's Yamen & Eda present more quality grooves that have them at the forefront of their local scene, in addition to releases on One Records, Earlydub and Laate. The swing-fuelled and glitched out microhouse of A side cuts of "Pay Ad" or Pastels" respectively pursue a current trend of classic Perlon inspired sounds - as good as recent works by Tobe & Fabe or Gene On Earth. On the flip, "Machine That Thinks" channels some subtle electro influences (another emerging trend in the minimal scene), while "Breakfast Cereals" looks more towards the classic futurist tendencies of Detroit on what is the surprising highlight here - not as dancefloor ready as the rest, but perfect for those emotive vibes at the afterhour.

  4. Primitive Trust - "Little Love" (Floorplan Stripped mix) (7:12)
Review: Inside Out is a brand new series from Aus Music label head Will Saul. It invites DJs and producers to blur the boundaries between traditional artist albums and mix compilations. The concept encourages them to showcase their own music, or the music of those in their own individual circles. Depending on who is curating, it will take different forms. The idea stems from Saul's own approach in the club, which often finds him seeking out brand new and unheard music to play for the first time. There's a strong Detroit techno aesthetic throughout his inaugural release for the series: from the emotive hi-tech soul of his own collaboration with Komon entitled "Positive", Amsterdam legend Gerd had no problem channeling similarly timeless retro vibes either, as heard on the funky techno-soul of "Echoes". They save the best for last on the flip, with the legendary Floorplan's riveting rendition of Primitive Trust's "Little Love" - perfect to get that 3AM style strobe-lit tunnel vision in effect.

  3. No Bullshit (7:47)
Review: It would be fair to say that no other artist is quite as associated with Bass Culture Records' "Limited" offshoot as Mihai Popescu AKA MP. In fact, since the series' inception in 2016, he's provided all but one of the releases. Thanks to this latest 12", that remarkable record stays in tact. The Romanian producer explores his more positive side on opener "Start Get Yourself", a clever combination of sweaty, jacking machine drums and fluid, watery and downright dreamy electronics that runs for eight mesmerizing minutes. Flip the disc, first for the deliciously bass-heavy and bumping "Generation House", where jazzy electric piano motifs rise above a swinging rhythm track, and then the early British tech-house lusciousness of "No Bullshit".
