  1. The Age Of Love (Solomun Renaissance remix) (8:13)
  2. The Age Of Love (Jam & Spoon Watch Out For Stella mix) (6:50)
Review: When it first appeared way back in 1990, The Age of Love's "Age of Love" was instrumental in inspiring the early trance movement. Since then, the track has been remixed numerous times, with each new generation of DJs and dancers seemingly falling for its whistling melodies, distinctive vocal samples and throbbing, arpeggio-fuelled groove. The latest to give the track a contemporary update is German tech-house stalwart Solomun. His remix is woozy and hypnotic, wrapping the now-familiar vocal sample, fluttering riffs and dreamy chords around a chunky tech-house groove. On the reverse, you'll find arguably the definitive version of the track - Jam & Spoon's 1992 "Watch Out For Stella Club Mix", a near perfect fusion of pulsating early trance bottom-end, ghostly synths and loved-up intent.

Review: AKSK is the collaborative project consisting of Adda Kaleh and Diego Herrera aka Suzanne Kraft. They present their debut LP on Running Back entitled 'Things We Do' which was recorded over the last several years between Kaleh's hometown of Bucharest, as well Los Angeles and Amsterdam - where Herrera divides his residence. His neon-lit and mysterious mood music that's typically awash in FM synthesis creates the perfect backdrop for Kaleh's captivating vocals on tracks like "Breaking", the sensual slow burner "Work" or the low slung and balmy balearica of "Special Times & Places". Coober Pedy University Band (Tornado Wallace and William Paxton) also provide remixes of the tracks "Four Lonely Words" and "Strong Like Nature".

  1. Hubris Variation (part 1) (14:16)
  2. Hubris Variation (part 2) (13:12)
Review: Given that Ricardo Villalobos was one of a handful of guest producers who featured on Oren Ambarchi's recent Hubris album - a krautrock-influenced minimalist techno exploration that also boasted contributions from Jim O'Rourke and Mark Fell, amongst others - it seems fitting that he's been roped in to provide two new remixes. The Chilean's contribution to the album was largely rhythm-based, and his two lengthy Variations - each stretched across one side of wax - promote undulating, heads-down dancefloor hypnotism above all else. Naturally, his drum programming and use of subtle stylistic shifts is as on-point as ever, with Ambarchi's original textures being manipulated into mind-altering new shapes.

  3. Wallfall (6:25)
Review: The legendary Dutch producer Martijn Hoogendijk aka Alden Tyrell (of Clone Records fame) teams up here for some main room bangers with Berlin based American Kevin McHugh aka Ambivalent: who has had a productive past decade recording for such respected imprints as m_nus, Ovum Recordings and Kompakt in addition to running his Delft and Valence imprints - where he records as acid expert LA-4A. The Detente EP brings the furious warehouse style bounce of the title track (featuring some relentless drum work!), the dusty and greyscale dub techno workout of "Dutchless" and the totally heads down and strobe-lit affair of "Wallfall" that is reminiscent of Jell Mills seminal Waveform Transmissions series.

Review: On its' initial 2006 release, Booka Shade's sophomore album, Movements, really captured the zeitgeist. Arguably the first great album of the post-minimal tech-house era, it mixed their usual hypnotic, undulating dancefloor tracks with more considered, IDM-influenced material. Ten years on, they've decided to reissue it, bundling the original album with a new disc of remixes. These remixes are uniformly excellent, from the intense creepiness of Nils Frahm's soundtrack style revision of "Night Falls", and Dennis Ferrer's deliciously percussive version of "Lost High", the feverish Afro-techno humidity of Andhim's rework of "Lost High", and Eats Everything's throbbing, big room interpretation of "Mandarine Girl" [sic].

  3. Track 1 (6:57)
  4. Track 2 (5:52)
Review: Kerri Chandler has made a lot of terrific records over the years, but few are better than 1993's "Atmosphere EP", which in our opinion contains some of the most on-point "garage-house" (as it would have been called then) ever made. This yellow vinyl reissue proves our point: you'll struggle to find a more infectious fusion of New Jersey organ stabs, sparkling piano riffs and bumpin' club grooves than "Climax 1", or the tougher dub mix "Climax 2" for that matter (a revision made all the more alluring by Chandler's use of heady African vocal samples). The goodness continues on the flip, where the jazzy and immersive deep house warmth of "Track 1" is quickly followed by the Larry Heard-inspired brilliance of "Track 2" - a kind of tribute to "Can You Feel It" that features some dizzying piano solos from the hugely talented Chandler. In a word: essential.

Review: Is there a more positive, soulful and life-affirming dancefloor anthem out there than Roy Davis Jr and Peven Everett's 1996 jam "Gabriel"? As many will be aware, it has long been sought of as a classic, with soulful house, deep house, US and UK garage DJs all championing it back in the day. This white vinyl reissue boasts all of the mixes featured on the original 12". Perhaps the most famous version is the rolling, bass-heavy two-step flex of the "Live Garage" mix that opens side B, but there's plenty to set the pulse racing elsewhere. The driving, jazzy-but-stomping "Words To Give By" version has been annoyingly overlooked over the years, while the "Tambourine Dub" is deliciously sweaty and driving in the best possible way.

Review: The incorrigible Master Jams has just gone and reissued four of the hottest Chez Damier cuts, originally out on the timeless - and much coveted - Prescription Records out of Chi-Town. The first cut "I Wouldn't" sees Damier team up with Dpac and T FM to produce a bright and sparkly house groove for the Saturday evening crew, followed by the deeper, jazzier, more disco-centric beats and bass banging of "I Remember Dance" featuring Ralph Lawson and Carl Finlow. The magic comes on the flip, however, where Damier teams up with like-minded legend Ron Trent on the glorious "Foot Therapy", and the rolling punch of drums and bass that is "Now Is The Time". Don't even think twice - cop on sight!

Review: The 110th release from Kompakt Extra comes from Extrawelt, a long-serving electronic band from Hamburg that has previously impressed via albums and singles on Traum Schallplatten, Border Community, Darkroom Dubs and Cocoon Recordings. They naturally hit the ground running with "Pink Panzer", a bustling affair that mixes live drum breakbeats and tough machine percussion with moody, booming bass, creepy strings and evocative, ever-building tech-house electronics. Flipside "Argonaut" is an altogether sleazier and heavier affair full of thrusting, non-stop distorted bass, redlined post-electro drums and all manner of mind-mangling electronic effects. It's effectively the Yang to the A-side's Ying and, like its' predecessor, very good indeed.

Frank Spirit and Keys Of Lynx come together for it to serve up two fresh cuts that have bumping US house drums and classic London jazz stylings. They link here with Patrick Gibin for an EP that brims with summer time soul, joyous keys and funky bass riffs that are impossibly sweet. Review: Japanese artist Sunao Gonno's idiosyncratic sound has appeared on labels such as Endless Flight, International Feel and Beats In Space over the years, where he's dabbled in shoegaze, kosmische and psychedelia as heard on 2015's breathtaking "Remember The Life Is Beautiful" or on last year's contemporary jazz outing "In Circles" with Kazuhiko Masumura. An accomplished DJ also, he's no stranger to Berlin's Panorama Bar, where Nick Hoppner (Touch From A Distance) has long held a residency. The two artists collaborate for the first time on "Lost", featuring three sublime sonic journeys: go deep into the exotic on "Bangalore" with its world music influence, or chill to the vivid downbeat tones of "Love Lost" until "Start Trying" returns to the program with its neon-lit aesthetic plus breakbeats reminiscent of the rave era.

It's a contribution to one of the longest running series in the business, DJ Kicks, and she's used the opportunity to showcase the depth and variety of the music in her crates. Beginning with the classic early '90s ambient of Spacetime Continuum, Gou flits between humid, mid-tempo Balearic house (her own "Hungboo"), acid-fired downtempo electronica, throbbing 1990 peak-time anthems (Weatherall's ace but largely forgotten remix of Sly & Lovechild), hypnotic techno minimalism, main room throb-jobs (Hiver), pulsating electro, classic breakbeat hardcore, post-dubstep, dark tribal drum jams and sunrise ready Motor City brilliance (Deniro).

Review: For their latest trip into soul-soaked machine music, People Of Earth has turned to debutant Detroit producer Haz Mat, who has been plying his trade as a musician and DJ in the Motor City for at least the last 15 years. There's an assured feel to A-side "My Zania", a rock solid, occasionally driving deep house number smothered in fluttering chord progressions, techno style analogue bass, and rising, intergalactic motifs. You'll find more tech-tinged deep house soul on the flip, where the synthesizer-heavy "Bridge To The Universe" - a fitting title, all told - sounds particularly addictive. He draws an excellent debut to a close with "Groove of Life", where fluttering flute solos dance across a jazz-funk inspired, Andres style deep house number.

Review: So far, the best part of Jouem's career seems to have been shaped by the Mojuba imprint, a label that rarely ever puts in something below excellent, and one whose label heads curate diligently. The shady artist returns with the fifth instalment of the series, and "Anomalous Diffusion" kicks it off with a deep, meandering pulse that showcases the best of what dubby house has to offer; on the flip, "Kazumi Cycle" strips the whole amalgam down to a mystical and pensive whirlpool of fuzzy bass waves and slow drum machine beats that are wrapped in a misty fog of sonics. "Contagion" is our favourite piece, its subtle addition of semi breaks at the core give it something special, and place it a step above any other recent house turn we've heard. This is some deep gear - we can't wait for the sixth chapter!

Review: Absolute Italian gold from 1990. Peeping right over into the house canyon while retaining all of Italo's sophistication, Ricky Montanari's Key Tronics Ensemble was a driving force in the sound during the early 90s. "House Of Calypso" was their debut, and it came with finessed, emotional key-stroking hook that lifts relentlessly. The remix version features a dizzying solo on the peak, the softhouse version is a little more spacious and lighter in the drums. For most, though, it's straight to the Paradise version - an out-and-out Balearic anthem that's still enraptures 27 years later. Its first repress in 10 years, this is long overdue.

Starting out with the deeply uplifting soulfulness of "Never Gonna Leave You 2K16" they are then into "Losing Memory" on the flip which gets more reduced, dubby and emotive, giving a nod to the kind of loopy deepness as heard on labels like Office or Slices Of Life. There really is something in the water out in Leipzig at the moment, great stuff!

Review: Earlier in the year, Far Out welcomed Daniel Maunick - son of Incognito's Jean-Paul Maunick - to the label. Since then he's released two 12" singles, both of which offered dancefloor-friendly fusions of house, broken beat, jazz-funk and Brazilian sounds. He expands on this theme on "Macumba Quebrada", an impressive debut album which highlights various mix-up bass music and samba (the weighty title track), deep house and jazz-funk ("Until The End", the warm and synth-laden "One Nite Stand"), jazz and drum & bass ("Red Doves"), samba and dream house ("Fallen Notes"), jazz and hip-hop ("Amnesia Haze"), and ambient and space jazz ("As Light Fades"). It's a mixed-up stylistic blend, for sure, but one that hangs together admirably despite the producer's musical dexterity.

Review: Since launching the Modified Man project in 2016, Adam Scrimshire and Dave Koor have yet to put a foot wrong. The genius of their collaborative releases is their ability to combine loose-limbed instrumental improvisations with dusty samples, cleverly manipulated beats and an acute sense of atmosphere. This third volume in the series rolls along in a similar way, flitting between skewed, straight-to-tape boogie-house ("Blame's On You Bruv"), solo-laden deep house dreaminess ("Glass Army"), intergalactic jazz-funk/broken beat fusion ("Here Me Calling"), smooth and loved-up grooves (the amusingly titled "Sergio Arpeggio") and becalmed, ultra-deep downtempo beats ("Love Rising From The Dark Abyss of Sorrow").

Review: Sweltering, humid emotion permeates the gauzy atmosphere and rolling basslines on Neotnas' latest. The tracks here combine the artists' loves of junglism, 'ardcore, stoned ambience, and classic house.
Taken together, it's a batch of instantly nostalgic grooves and future / past chillout rave reimaginings.
