Review: For those in the know, this new collab between veteran Portuguese DJ and producer Dedy Dread and fast-rising Hawaiian singing star Olivia Ruff has been a long time coming. But it was worth the wait. The opener 'Cover Me' features Ruff's, well, slightly rough - or at least gravelly - vocals over a rhythm and bass instrumental. It's accented with wispy chords, neat little guitar riffs and crunchy claps. Flip it over and you'll find a remix by label founder The Rebel and Roman pianist and producer Shiny D. Their version is a modern update with brilliant reggaeton rhythms.

Review: Omar is a real British musical institution and as such it's surprising but also not so shocking, he has recently completed a stint on BBC soap Eastenders. This cheeky 7" is a reissue of the title track from his album The Man and a fine example of his perfectly soulful vocals and mellifluous melodies over nice broken beat and nu jazz sounds. It represents some of his best work and this contemporary take uses the final few bars of the original track as its starting point in a "part 2" style.

Review: Omar S adopts a new style for his new Side Trakx project. Detroit house meets sample based hip hop... and it really works. Possibly inspired by the passing of the late Jay Dilla, this music is perfect for relaxing and kicking back, or even warming up the early hours of the club. Review: First released in 2020 as a CD compiling their best demos first submitted for Disney's short-lived hip-hop label, Hollywood BASIC, 'The Demos' (now on LP) is an ultra lo-fi look back on some of Organized Konfusion's best work. The Queens two-piece (made up of members Prince Po and Rawkus Records affiliate Pharoahe Monch) tended to focus their efforts on the harder-edged, warring and lyrical side of '90s hip-hop, thematically building their ideas on the hot topics of the day - such as industrial-prison complexes and mean streets. Masterful in its flows and delivery, tracks such as 'Mind Over Matter' bring a mood of severity mirroring Britcore, while jazzier cuts also poke through, such as 'Audience Pleasers'.

The Iceberg album originally landed in 2017 and is steeped in classic sounds with catchy grooves. The wordsmith's fine mic work anchors each groove in storytelling while he tackles everyday topics but with his own unique bent and often though provoking depth. Each well-crafted composition standalone and is run through with a warming sense of soul. Guest appearances from Toine and Olivier St. Louis add extra character and make cuts like 'Rights & Wrongs' really stand out next to the catchy grooves and melodic hooks.

Review: American singer Omar Apollo dropped his debut album last year with singles such as 'Go Away', 'Bad Life', and 'Tamagotchi' all performing well. Review: Hard-working beat-maker Omas has been operative on the hip-hop underround for the best part of a decade, dividing his time between laying cuts and scratches for other artists, working with the National Curriculum crew and releasing occasional seven-inch singles on the My First Moth label. Plying Trade, his first full-length excursion, is undoubtedly his most sizable project to date. It's rather good, too, with Omas offering up a range of dusty, club-ready and blunted instrumentals that make great use of a wide range of samples while doffing a cap to boom-bap, golden-era beats and the stoned, head-nodding goodness that was once the backbone of Ninja Tune's release schedule.
