Review: The third single from Cyprus Hill's second album "Black Sunday" was recorded while the entire band was high on mushrooms. It was also the song that got cut short on Saturday Night Live after DJ Muggs lit up a joint on-air and started toking on it just before they performed it. Needless to say, it is a tune mostly about smoking and acquiring weed that sums up the hard hitting West Coast rap and Hill's alternative take on hip hop. This single is strictly limited to just 250 copies and comes with an instrumental version on the flip for more beat orientated crowds.

Review: Chief stoners and innovative hip hop heads Cypress Hill remain a much-loved act with a distinctive sound of their own that leans on their unique flows, groundbreaking beats and weed-laced rhymes. One of the band's biggest early tunes was this one, 'Hand on the Pump'. Lyrically it muses on the dangerous mix of rap life and thug life in LA at the time they wrote it and of that time they have said before "It wasn't uncommon for us to go party out with like fifteen cars and everybody has got weapons in the cars." Either way, it remains a classic joint today with the bonus tune 'Hole In The Head' on the flip.

Review: Celebrating its 30th anniversary, 'Black Sunday' has always been a favourite hip-hop album from the fringe of the scene. The Californian group would subtly mix in latin influences into their, often strange, beats influenced from A Tribe Called Quest (like on the zany chanting on 'I Ain't Goin' Out Like That'), Beastie Boys and Public Enemy and going on to become huge influences on the impending nu-metal wave (thing the greats like Korn and System of A Down). You, of course, can't talk about 'Black Sunday' without 'Insane in the Brain', which Statik Selektah produced a brand new remix just for this Record Store Day remix 12 inch, as well as a new 'Hits From the Bong' flip from the one and only, the original producer DJ Muggs.
