Review: Get ready for a rush-inducing dose of proper soulful vocal house from the mighty Dames Brown. On this record for Defected, Detroit's foremost trio of Athena Johnson, Lisa Cunningham and Teresa Marbury linked up with the mighty Amp Fiddler and Andres for a rip through house music as real as it gets. The original 12" mix of 'What Would You Do?' is hard to beat for raw, heavy-hitting groove and production, but there are some choice remixes included here for those who have different needs, whether it's the bouncy jazz funk of Two Soul Fusion's version or the smoother sound of Folamour creating a sleek disco house variation for the peak time crowd.

Review: Although best known for the soaring anthem 'Cathedrals' - a 1976 gem that has been reissued many times - there's much more disco gold in the D.C Larue catalogue to find and play. It's ripe for remixing, too, as this fine EP proves. Opolopo steps up first to deliver a suitably grandiose, Tom Moulton style rearrangement of 1978 cut 'Do You Want The Real Thing' that smartly alternates between Clavinet-sporting groove sections and more overblown, hands-in-the-air instrumental sections. Over on the flip, Dr Packer gets his disco-funk on (minus the house beats he often employs) on a celebratory revision of 'Let Them Dance', before the Knutsens reach for star-fall electronics, throbbing arpeggio-driven bass and righteous orchestration on a delightfully full-throttle revision of 'Indiscreet'.

Review: Broken beat innovator Dego and The 2000Black Family join forces for this latest 12" on Neroli Italy and it is a classy affair, as you would expect. 'Make The Right Move' opes in joyous fashion with gorgeously sunny synths and flesh bass over loose limed drums.The vocal harmonies are heart melting and the whole thing makes an indelible impact. After the instrumental version comes the 'The Stakeout,' a flute led and upbeat stepper with more lush Rhodes chords and a hint of MPB. Review: Two tracks devoted to two of New York City's most legendary nightspots via the Papaya Detroit label. 'Danceteria' strides with a confident disco swagger, dropping down to mechanised handclaps and Rhodes piano before the female vocal arrives as the cherry on top. 'Loft Night Theory', as its name suggests, has its roots in slightly older, more organic sounds, complete with warm pads and exotic bongos. David Mancuso would approve, we can instinctively tell.

Review: Looks like we have another Digwah white label in this week. The label first appeared on our radar several years ago with its second release 'Something Else' by an anonymous artist who threw down a sublime vocal by Cuba Gooding over a pumping acid tech house groove. Fast forward to DIGWAH 07, the formula remains the same and is still rather effective. In this case, the vocals are taken from a rather legendary early '90s pop collaboration over a hypnotic, bass-driven minimal house groove aimed squarely at the afterhours dancefloor.

The first edition in the label's brand spanking new Family Affair series features the pairing of legends Dimitri From Paris & DJ Rocca on 'Days Of A Better Paradise' kicking off the A side, before Saucy Lady's late night boogie-down biz on 'Passport To My Love'. Flip over and you're treated to a seriously lo-slung cosmic disco dub on Misiu's 'Love Me Do' and finally Clive From Accounts tells it straight up on the acid jazz joint 'It's Not That I Don't Care'.

Review: Ukraine's Black Loops label hits the mini milestone of ten releases with a perfect pumping and party-ready outing from Disco. First up is a super lively tech house cut with fresh and crisp drums but what defines it is the iconic lead synth from 00s trance-dance classic 'Meet Her At The Love Parade' from Da Hool. It flips into a shuffling speed garage workout with plenty of character that will leave the floor in a sweat. 'Sharp Shooter' is another non-stop and naughty speed garage number with more retro signifiers and cut-up vocals plus a filthy bassline.

Review: A few years back, Ditongo - an alternative alias for Peru-based nu-disco producer Batongo - served up a quartet of tasty re-edit releases before heading back underground. Here he resurfaces with what we believe to be one of his strongest cut-jobs to date. Sure, there's only one track on offer, but it's an absolute beast. "Calypso" sees him playing around with a disco-era soca cut, brilliantly teasing out a punchy, extra-percussive rhythm track before unleashing elements of his steamy, Caribbean source material. There's a superb breakdown and build up midway through, too, which the producer uses to introduce a killer spoken word passage. In other words, it's a simple but brilliantly effective peak-time re-rub that's more than worthy of your hard-earned cash.

Review: Last year's Detroit Get Down EP showcased the very best of Galaxy 2 Galaxy keys-man Jon Dixon, a musician and producer who genuinely 'gets' the intergalactic tech-soul ethos of 'hi-tech jazz'. On Vocal Sessions Volume 1, Dixon also proves that he can write and produce superb floor-filling songs, too. 'Feel Your Touch', featuring the sublime singing of L Renee, is a top-drawer chunk of bouncy Motor City deep house smothered in twinkling electric piano solos, while 'I Keep Falling', featuring Kenny Watson on lead vocals, is an impeccably soulful slab of atmospheric broken beat/deep house fusion. Of the accompanying reworks, we're particularly feeling the Kaidi Tatham style 'Brixton Mix' of 'I Keep Falling' and Jimpster's gorgeous, sun-splashed rework of 'Feel Your Touch'.

Review: Ou la la, here comes DJ Merci with another EP for which we should be thankful because it's a joyful one packed with feel-good house and disco sounds. 'Shake It' gets things underway with warm chords and cosmic synth work over 90s house beats. 'Sound Of One' offers lung-busting diva vocals and great piano work and 'Step Into My Life' then sinks into a more late night and seductive sound with a jazzy melodic overtone and laid-back beats. 'Rosemary' is the closer and one with another organic percussive sound and louche drums for smooth grooving.

Review: DJ Octopus has been busy in the last few years, appearing often alongside Steve Murphy on labels like Love Notes, Chiwax, Hot Haus and Shall Not Fade. On this new double pack for House Crime he goes it alone, bringing the kind of raw, off-kilter but ultimately fun vibe that the label seems to plump for. "Born In 86" is an absolute head driller of a track, looped up but utterly addictive, while "Diastemia" offers a very different kind of disco-infused groove. This is the 15th such offering - a third volume of its Jam series - and again the good times flow from the off. 'Devoted' is a four-way collab between Micky More, Andy Tee, Reverendos Of Soul and Anduze that layers up the soulful drums and disco percussion with buttery smooth soul vocals. Serge Funk's 'Can't Get Enough' is all swirling strings and sunny trumpet motifs over funk house beats and then Micky More & Andy Tee appear to remix 'All I Want' into another future Body & Soul classic. The duo's own 'Philly Sensation" is a disco-tinged, string-heavy house dream to close.

Review: Given that they're amongst Europe's most talented house and disco fusionists, prioritising high quality musicianship and arrangements, it's little surprise to discover that Dave Lee has asked them to remix tracks from the Z Records back catalogue. This vinyl sampler features four of the best revisions from the digital collection, which is called 'In Our Groove'. The Italian duo kicks things off with a horn-toting, Chic-inspired revision of Ricci Benson's 'Still In Love', before reaching for addictive sax hooks and bold piano riffs on a hands-aloft house take on Doug Willis classic 'Music Speak Louder Than Words'. Over on the flip, they reach for jazzy guitar solos, jazz-funk bass and life-affirming chords on a stellar Sunburst Band re-rub, before offering up a soulful house-goes-disco tweak of another Doug Willis jam, 'People Power'.

This limited hand-stamped white 12" proves that - it's a stripped-back and dry deep house cut that builds the pressure in subtle ways. Roisin's vocals are as stylised and seductive as ever while the vamping chords have a hint of Detroit techno soul to them and the rumbling bassline keeps things nicely locked. An instrumental comes on the flipside for those who prefer it raw.

Review: Stand by for a big reissue of a classic 1990 single from a couple of bona fide legends here: Junior Sanchez and Dajae combined to beautiful effect on 'Be With U' for the Club Sweat label and now offer a new 2.0 take. It's got the sort of huge diva vocal that you just don't get so often the days with simple but effective house production bolstering the good time feels. The original is included and next to version 2.0 sounds of its time, but then Yolanda Be Cool goes for the main room with more twisted synth work and sweaty, tech tinged drums. The final Dance System remix is pure fun.

Review: For anyone with an interest in the history of house music, this excellent compilation from Jerome Derradji's Still Music imprint should be essential listening. It focuses on the output of two long forgotten Chicago labels, Mitchbal and Chicago Connection Records, during the early to mid 1980s, when electro, new wave and boogie were morphing into house. As such, 122 BPM offers a mix of rare, largely overlooked cuts that bristle with analogue dancefloor intent. There's proto-jack in the shape of Jeanette Thomas's "Shake Your Body" and Z Factor's "I Am The DJ", dubbed-out Chi-town proto house from Mitchbal and Larry Williams, and some terrific bodypoppin' electro from McGhee.
