Review: Thankfully, Richard D. James has decided to finally release at least some of the output that he's been banging on about since mid-2000s. In a number of interviews, the might Aphex Twin hinted that he has vast artilleries of tracks stacked up and unreleased, probably more on purpose than out of laziness...or maybe not. What we do know is that AFX is reborn after the string of acid 12"s released about 10 years ago on Rephlex, that saw the alias become one of the most popular of James' alter egos. Orphaned Deejay Selek is a collection of tunes that contain all of the Twin's magic and unpredictably, but that also cut straight to the point and head to the middle of the dance floor. This is banging brain dynamite coated in the man's iconic style and flair. Welcome back AFX, and many hats off to Warp for making it happen.

Review: Some 25 years after delivering his debut 12", Richard D James hasn't lost the ability to thrill or inspire. By his obtuse standards, the material that makes up the surprise Cheetah EP is actually rather laidback and melodious. "Cheetah2 (LD Spectrum)", for example, sounds like a slow house jam written by robots, while the even deeper "Cheetah7B" shuffles along in a metronomic fashion, seemingly oblivious to the increasingly aggressive World at large. Of course, those trademark skittish IDM rhythms are present and the Cornishman has thrown in a couple of hazy ambient cuts for good measure.

Review: Aphex Twin is either having a breakdown, or simply making up for lost time. Since dropping his first album in a decade, Syro, he's become strangely prolific, giving away vast amounts of music on Soundcloud and dropping EPs left, right and centre. This latest offering serves up the predictably hard to pronounce "Machromt30a Edit 2b 96", a blissfully melodious, Selected Ambient Works style slice of electronic beauty that was originally only available on the Japanese version of Syro. It's backed with two similarly impressive bonus cuts; the deliciously rolling, melodious "Xmas_Evet1N" (a brilliant alternate take of an album highlight) and "Machromt38 Fast", a skittish, Reflex-esque IDM reworking of the EP's title track.

Review: Are there two more consistently - and rightfully - fawned over names in electronic music than John Peel and Aphex Twin? A coming together of two giants is always going to be worth hearing and so this second Peel Session recording proves. One of only two radio broadcasts Richard D. James recorded as part of a special set of radio themed vinyl releases from Warp, it's hypnagogic electronic pop meets ambient techno on this instalment with the trademark timbre and tonality of James lighting up each and every track in ways that are somehow both heavenly yet of high physical impact.

Review: While his AR antics and massive stage shows might be a far cry from the subversive rave culture he came up in, Aphex Twin remains one of the most fascinating and gifted electronic dance music producers of his generation. Get past the fanfare and bluster, and it's still an incredibly exciting prospect to be opening up a new box of his charms, and he's as generous as he's ever been on this new four-track EP. As a key architect of the braindance sound (whether he likes the tag or not), Richard D. James demonstrates his gift for uncanny emotionality and dexterous drum programming on the lead single 'Blackbox Life Recorder 21f', hitting a spot not too far from the realm of his last album Syro and The Tuss material. With a lush fold-out sleeve to house it all in, it's another fine addition to the canon of a true cult phenomenon.

Review: The hype machine may have kicked into overdrive at the announcement of a new Aphex Twin EP, but after all there's a reason we all get so excited. Richard D. James is just a rare sort of artist - one who can wrench untold depth, detail and feeling from the oddest of angles and still keep it rave-ready in the process. It's been a while since we had some new material from the Cornish wonder, but now he's gifting us four fresh slabs of braindance par excellence which bristle with his distinctive touch. Those subtle microtonal shifts in the melodies, the particular flair with which the drums are dissected, the overall head-spinning tapestry of the whole thing - no one does it quite like Aphex, and this CD single gives you his considerable skills in the highest definition.

Review: Autechre have a long history of releasing impressive standalone EPs, from the early brilliance of 1994's Anti, to the unusual rhythms of 1997's Cichlisuite and sci-fi electronics of 2010's Move of Ten. L Event, a four-track EP with artwork from long-time collaborators The Designers Republic, continues this trend. Despite the sci-fi electronics, there's something almost tear-jerking about the melancholic melodies of "Newbound", while "Tac Lacora" sounds like an invitation to dance (though, inevitably, only jazz dancers on speed need try it). The spooky "M39 Diffain" and discordant "Osla For N" are impressive, too.

Night Falls (3:29)
Review:  Stephen James Wilkinson aka Bibio has been a big part of Warp's revival since the mid 2000's, and it's no surprise given the fact that this guy is as multi-talented as he is productive behind the mixing desk. "Why So Serious" is a chilled out, hazy boogie monster with gorgeous synth accompaniment and Olivier St Louis on the vocals, while "Make Up" goes more soulful thanks to its slow beat and St Louis' sublime singing. "Stress Me Out" heads back to the LA Boulevard for a ride around with the convertible, and "Night Falls" provides the gentle sort of cool down that's perfect for a night drive. Another cracker from Wilkinson, and also from London's Warp stable.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

As part of their on going series of special vinyl releases of radio broadcasts from days gone by, Warp this time turn to a special Peel Session put together by Boards Of Canada. Covering plenty of ground from the deep and chugging dream-techno of "Happy Cycling" to the archetypal IDM squiggles and kinetics of "XYZ" via the sort of brain cleansing alpine purity of ambient beauty "Olson". Opener "Aquarius" sounds almost balearic in comparison, with little guitar riffs, smeared chords and sampled vocals that bring to mind the finest post-rave work of Orbital.

Review: For many years, Mother is the Milky Way has been one of the most sought-after artifacts in Broadcast's discography. Originally released in limited quantities during their final tour in 2009, it has finally been given a proper release as part of a package of reissues by the band's label, Warp. Musically, it's amongst their most trippy and psychedelic releases - an experimental mini-album that sees the late Trish Keenan add icy, ethereal vocals to frequently creepy and otherworldly sound collages that make use of field recordings, children's voices and decidedly hallucinogenic electronics. It's perhaps not their most comforting of releases, but it remains one of their most interesting and alluring.

A Day's Pay For A Day's Work (Motor City Drum Ensemble remix)
Review: With their News From Nowhere album freshly dropped for Warp, Darkstar serve up this single in support which provides a neat snapshot of where their sound is at now. There's a more overt 4/4 pulse to their work, even if the breathless indie melodic content remains intact on top of the rhythm. "Young Hearts" lolls around a dizzying loop that brings the hysteria of peak-time house music and the wallowing emotion of shoegaze into one track. "Armonica" is a murkier affair as wild layering of piano notes collides with oppressive bottom-end drones over an insistent beat, but the real gem of the record has to be "A Day's Pay For A Day's Work". With a more purposeful, subtly swung beat, there is a hint of Border Community about this cut with its fuzzy but well-formed synth lines and constant forward thrust.

Review: Tapping up the fertile Lisbon scene and its proud individualistic electronic music, Warp Records presents the first volume of CARGAA in a move that will no doubt break the sounds of these artists through to a wider audience, much as happened with the Chicago footwork producers on Planet Mu's Bangs & Works compilations. DJ Marfox and DJ Newdyt Fox kick the EP off with a searing blend of peak time hype full of pealing leads, off beat percussion and subby booms. DJ Nigga Fox meanwhile takes things a little slower, plays down the synth lines and lets the percussion come further forwards in a head-spinning melee of polyrhythms. There's also string laden emotion from Blacksea Naoo MAya, and a sprightly slice of wonky house from DJ Ly-COox proving that in Portugal's capital a whole lot of influences feed into a very unique melting pot.

Review: Last spotted on Warp on the inaugural volume of their Cargaa series in 2015, Nigga Fox returns to the UK institution with his debut label EP "Cranio". As always with the Lisbon underground kingpin, fusion and ardent experimentalism characterise the project as we're shifted and beguiled in equal measure at the rising paranoid acid tendrils on "Sinistro", the thumping obese kicks on "Poder Do Vento", the jarring techno necksnap of "Maria Costa", the lucid dreaminess of "KRK", the obscenely tripped-out voodoo instrumentation on "Waaba-Jah" and accordion squeezing technoid sketch "Karma". Singular.

Review: Returning in August with his first album in over eight years, Jackson seriously impressed with the psychedelic cocktail of influences that went into making Glow, an album that captured the enthusiasm French dance music had in the last decade. This EP sees standout album track "GI Jane", with its gleeful singalong chorus and unashamedly rhythmic stomp that sounds like classic Soulwax paired up with the delightfully skewed French touch house of "Vista". Hudson Mohawke is a fantastic choice to remix "Vista", enhancing it with a cathedral-like scale, while Jackson himself provides his own, more straight-faced remix of "GI Jane", turning it into the kind of moody electro rave banger not heard since the days of Trash.
