  3. A Caged Bird/Imitations Of Life (feat Roots Manuva - Fennesz remix) (7:11)
  4. To Believe (feat Moses Sumney - Lucinda Chua rework) (4:14)
Review: With the Cinematic Orchestra's epic "To Believe Remixes" album set to drop any day now, Ninja Tune has decided to offer up a couple of vinyl samplers featuring some of the finest revisions. This one begins in fine fashion via a stunning Mary Lattimore rework of "Wait For Now" in which Tawiah's sublime, heart-wrenching vocals rise above simmering strings and heavenly harps, before New York "prepared piano" specialist Kelly Moran delivers a similarly swelling, beat-free neo-classical take on "The Workers Of Art" that's every bit as sublime. Over on side B, Fennesz delivers a darker, more atmospheric take on Roots Manuva collaboration "A Caged Bird/Imitations of Life" that increases in moody intensity as it progresses, while Lucinda Chua strips "To Believe" back to stirring strings, heartfelt vocals and little else. Like the rest of the EP, it's jaw-droppingly good.

Review: Since the dawn of the decade, A Winged Victory For The Sullen has delivered occasional albums for Erased Tapes that effortlessly blur the boundaries between ambient, electronic experimentalism and emotion-stirring neo-classical music. "The Undivided Five" marks their first appearance on mighty British independent Ninja Tune, and seems a little more grandiose in scale and ambition than some of their earlier outings. It was recorded in eight different studios around Europe, with the pair combining atmospheric orchestration and traditional instrumentation with occasional glimpses of modular electronics. It feels like a stunning soundtrack to a movie we've not yet seen - unsurprising given that they have previously composed a number of scores - and genuinely gets better with each successive spin.

Review: Given the rise in popularity in new school jazz in recent years, it seems a fitting time to welcome back Ninja Tune stalwarts The Cinematic Orchestra. "To Believe" is not only their first album in some seven years, but also one of their strongest releases to date. Opening with the poignant neo-classical/soul fusion "To Believe", the set sees Jason Swinscoe and company attractively saunter between jazz-electronica fusion (Roots Manuva collaboration ("A Caged Bird/Imitations Of Life"), pastoral jazz epics (the sunset ready epic that is "Lessons"), gentle downtempo songs ("Wait For Now/Leave The World"), ambient jazz ("The Workers Of Art") and slowly unfurling dancefloor workouts (killer closing cut "A Promise"). In a word: stunning.

Review: A new album from Sam Shepherd AKA Floating Points is always cause for celebration, but even by his standards "Crush" is rather special. Largely eschewing the ambient jazz soundscape shuffle of 2017's "Reflections - Mojave Desert", it sees the Shepherd showcase his musical dexterity in stunning fashion via cuts that wrap shimmering neo-classical strings around what sound like modular electronics and rhythms that variously touch on broken beat, off-kilter experimental D&B and Autechre-style IDM. Of course there are ambient and experimental soundscapes showcased, but it's the fact that the album contains a swathe of formidably dancefloor-focused cuts in the style that first made him standout that pleases us most. Highlights include recent single "LesAlpx", the dreamy "Anasickmodular" and the "People's Potential" style deep house intricacy of "Last Bloom".

Review: Ryan Hunn AKA Illum Sphere has impressively grown and matured as a producer since making his debut on Fat City back in 2009. His 2014 debut album, Ghosts of Then & Now, was something of a watershed moment, tempering his experimental, bass-heavy dancefloor compositions with a newfound love of cinematic sounds. Glass arguably moves further in the latter direction. While there are some nods towards his club-ready past - see the 4/4 shuffle of "Fall Into Water", or the moody electro bounce of "Fuel The Fire" - it's not the beats that dominate, but rather his evocative chord progressions and IDM style melodies. In fact, it's the more sanguine, ambient inspired cuts, of which there are numerous, that really stand out.

Review: Ninja Tune's ever growing and ever diverse roster facilitates a new album from Portico, the trio of Duncan Bellamy, Milo Fitzpatrick and Jack Wyllie who are founding members of the now defunct Portico Quartet. Living Fields should be seen as quite a separate endeavour to their previous efforts, and it finds them exploring new directions backed by the distinct voices of Jono McCleery, Alt J's Joe Newman and Jamie Woon. Delving into the same realm of post bass music song crafting that has made Jim Blake a worldwide star, this is a confident new direction for the Portico crew and an album that teeters wonderfully between melancholy and euphoria.

Review: Scott Hanson's Tycho project has been responsible for some fine albums over the last 15 years, with the Ghostly International released "Awake" and "Epoch" being particular favourites of ours. "Weather" sees the loose US producer and his regular collaborators pitch up on Ninja Tune for the very first time. As usual, there's much to enjoy, with the combo crafting ear catching, sundown soundscapes and dreamy underground pop songs out of colourful analogue synthesizers, tight-but-jazzy drums, decidedly Balearic guitars and heartwarming bass. Highlights include pitch-perfect opener "Easy", the languid and bubbly "Pink & Blue" (the first of a swathe of cuts with fragile, innocent-sounding vocalist Saint Sinner) and the opaque, slow motion bliss of "Japan".

Review: Welcome back Tycho, on a productive roll and ready to dive straight back in after 2019's stellar "Weather" album for Ninja Tune. This follow-up continues in the vein of Scott Hansen's creative arc to date, fusing traditional band dynamics with electronics in the most fluid of ways, and making a heart-stirring brew out of the resulting interplay. The drums bite with urgency on tracks like "Outer Sunset", but never at the expense of the winsome guitar lines and swooning synths. The tempo ups and the beats diversify on "Easy", but the overall mood remains consistent throughout "Simulcast". It's a cohesive world that wraps around you from the first bars to the last, and it's a very pleasant place to be.
