Output (6:10)
Review: One-sided business with a neat back story to it from the master that is The Maghreban. Whilst visiting his dad, The Maghreban found a bunch of old cassette tapes, one said 'Alex July 84' on it. This tape was from Alexandria, Egypt in the summer of 1984. It had some interesting music recorded on it. Inspired by the sounds, The Maghreban decided to sample them resulting in "Output", a killer six minute jaunt through recycled sonics set to a satisfying electro crunch. We've loved everything The Maghreban has put his name to and this is no different!

Forced Vortex EP
Cat: MANTRAP 001. Rel: 15 Jan 08
Wobbulator
Overflux
Overflux (Ed Devane remix)
Scorney
Review: Named after Delia Derbyshire's low frequency oscillator, it is the electrifying bass oscillations of 'Wobbulator' where Magnetize
makes his intentions first felt on the 'Forced Vortex EP'. Also powered by brutish industrial drum muscle, and interspersed with
both white and wild noise, it is the introduction of melodious bells and warbled voices that make this track appeal to far more
than just leather clad basement dwellers. 'Overflux' meanwhile, is exactly what fans of Magnetize's earlier 12" on Templedog
would have hoped for - where the use of a wobbly lead continues, alongside a snappy electro drum track that offsets
measured, strained atmospherics and the sign of mammal activity flipping into the mix. Ed Devane (Touchin' Bass, Spacebar
Sentiments, Takeover) supplies a mega-mashed remix of 'Overflux' on the B1, merging microscopic shards of its original parts
to mischievous vocal snatches, which eventually progresses from a stuttered drum track into full on bass chaos, that has
already been road-tested to maximum effect in recent live sets of his. 'Scorney' is an outsider on this 12" for a number of
reasons; because it's the B2; because it is relatively sparse; and because it is the one track present that was made entirely
with an MPC 2000. Make no mistake, the rugged, rolling bass drum combined with the tearing, metallic percussion, is prime
Irish beef that finds gel in a range of interchanging riffs and subtle whistles of wind, in a fully satisfying finale to this Mantrap ep.

The Man From Another Place EP
Cat: PLR 001. Rel: 09 Jun 14
The Man From Another Place (original mix)
Arecibo
The Man From Another Place (Timothy J Fairplay remix)
The Man From Another Place (Cottam remix)
Review: Hailing from sunny Los Angeles, Plastic Love Records kicks off our first release with an EP from label co-boss Jimmy Maheras. Maheras made his debut in 2011 with his Space Jam EP on the Crosstown Rebels edit sub-label, Rebellion. Since then he's released remixes and singles on Strainjjur, Riff Raff, Supernature, and Left'd.

Maheras's two original tracks showcase his depth with The Man From Another Place being squarely aimed at the big room dance floor and the second track, Arecibo, bringing a little Kraftwerkesque funk. We've commissioned Timothy J Fairplay (Crimes Of The Future) and Cottam (Aus Music / Ruff Draft) for two very unique remixes. Fairplay crunches down the original melody and throws it over the famed amen break to give TMFAP a hands in air late night feel while Cottam's remix brings the dreamy melody closer to acid with storming late night kick ready to knock down a wall.

TB Or Not TB?
Review: Marcus Intalex has to be one of the most well known names within Drum and Bass. The Soul:R label owner stands out for his dense yet sparse style, laying bare the unique and highly refined elements within his work. "Dusk" is the ultimate proof of those aforementioned Intalex traits. Spacious, dreamy and low slung, "Dusk" makes the spaces between the beats are just as captivating as the beats themselves. Vocals stream along, warm keys are drawn out and as bass line drops and brings a groove to the table, it somehow manages to add to the ambience and soulfulness of the record at the same time. Juno pick this hands down as our Ep favourite. The B-side is "TB or not TB?" moving slightly away from the soul and putting its energy into a more twisted atmosphere. Deep reverbed bass and throbbing sound pockets lay underneath dramatic keys. Its electronica cuts to the core, chugging and metallic - this is Intalex's proof that he's still a heavy and moody soundscaper, despite Soul:R and his personal reputation for laid back beats. Either way you look at him or his label, both are quality through and through via either characteristic.

Too Big To Fail (5:57)
Beat Boxxx (7:16)
Boulevard Mystere (6:31)
Enigma (5:49)
Review: The 10th release on EYA comes from French producer Master Flashhh, who delivers punchy, cool-headed house music with a strong early 90s slant. 'Too Big To Fail' keeps things stripped back and weighty, with a bassline so thick you could sink your teeth into it. 'Beat Boxxx' has a more psychedelic, slow-techno slant to it, not least thanks to the ranging 303 gurgles sliding around the track. 'Boulevard Mystere' adds a little cinematic spookiness to the mix for an ear-snagging warm up track, and 'Enigma' completes the set with the kind of eerie mood and crisp box jam sounds that make artists like RVDS so compelling. Highly recommended for those who like their machine music with personality and punch in equal measure.

Underneath The Universe
Underneath The Universe (Soft Rocks remix)
Review: The Soft Rocks camp launches a newly minted label in the shape of Kinfolk, whose intention is to showcase rising talent and fully indulge the experimental. The first release from Maurice & Charles smacks it right in the spot - you may have enjoyed the loose vocal acid throb of A Side hugger "Moroder In Milan" on Sir Wevver's recent 6 Mix show. There isn't a recommendation that comes any higher than that! On the flip, Mo & Charlie indulge their floaty Balearic side with "Underneath The Universe" which also contains a pleasant undercurrent of bubbling acid. The same track is twisted inside out and taken to the New Forest by the Soft Rocks crew themselves on an expansive dubbed out refix notable for some rather tasty metallic 808 hits!

Sons Of October (4:55)
Review: Distant Worlds is a label going from strength to strength as it carries the work of underground deep techno producers celebrating that hopelessly romantic strain of UK machine music that emanated out of labels like B12 and Pure Plastic. Mihail P makes a return to the label after last year's "Multiverse EP", channeling all the right moves for a blissful trip into imagined sci-fi vistas fuelled by the box jam funk of electro and the synapse-tickling soundscapes of Tangerine Dream et al. From the dreamy delights of "Kessel Run" to the downtempo groove of "Sons Of October", this is beautifully executed music that champions electronic music with real heart and soul.

The Quadra (8:36)
The Haunting Circumstance (4:55)
Review: Miles Sagnia has a deep-rooted backstory in the UK underground techno scene. Under his own name and as Miles Atmospheric he's produced consistently compelling techno for labels like Finale Sessions, FireScope, Aesthetic Audio and Applied Rhythmic Technology. Such associations point to the soundworld Sagnia inhabits - a harmonically balanced strain of deep-diving brain food that favours expressive musicality and inventive programming over rigid functionality. Having previously appeared as Miles Sagnia on Ornate back in 2010, he returns to the label as Miles Atmospheric with three cuts that explore melancholic moods through artful interplay between beautifully rendered synth tones and intricate drum machine excursions. These tracks still move with purpose and presence, but the end goal is more cerebral than physical - a perfect fit for the immersive experiences Ornate has always strived to promote.

Full Frontal Robotomy
Review: Hot on the heels of the CD compilation that rounded up the highlights of Creative Use's vinyl only output, the label continues its ascent from a release slumber with the introduction of Mimp Gimp. Perhaps known best by Devon based disco fans, the Mimp Gimp fits in snugly alongside previous contributors to Kelvin Andrew's edits imprint, with "Calypso Alien" a delightfully off the beaten track sojourn through steel pan rhythms over a mid tempo strut that worms its way into your head with nonchalant ease. On the flip "Full Frontal Lobotomy" goes into deep industrial electro funk territory, filled with brilliantly abrasive reverberant textures which could prove quite frightening when played loud. As with previous Creative Use releases this is strictly limited and totally worth it!
