These more than able producers land on a hand-stamped translucent green wax 12" that marks the second installment in the Source Material Various Artist series. Just like the first, this is a monster outing with four searing electro cuts that bring intergalactic warfare to any party. '116ctro' is a visceral cut with corrugated rhythms and zippy synths. 'And We Rock' has a funky broken beat and tons of reverb and 'Compassion' slows it down a touch but has lashing synths and thunderous kicks to keep you moving.

Dutch techno pusher Tripeo delivers two techlectro confidence-trickers, 'Bullshit Detector' and 'Echo Cages', deploying a new kind of mysterious, alien sonic technology that makes our mere digital and quantum vanguards look, well, rather shoddy. Meanwhile, Spanish dub techno producer Cycloplex brings up the B, upping the floor's collective blood pressure with 'Hypertension' and simu-stimulating the human stress response with 'Alarm Activated'. An urgent dance EP with mechanistic edges; it probably shouldn't be handled without a hard-hat, goggles and gloves.

Review: Two And Half Records make the decision here to try and rid the A and B-side distinction on records that we are all very familiar with and instead they refer to each face of their latest 12" as 'dance' and 'listen.'' It makes sense frankly and is often how things go anyway. Swiss duo Quismi kick off this one with twitchy and narcotic tech house with an old school bent. French artist Groenogen then gets wild with bright melodies and grinding synths, r&b vocals and high speed tech funk on 'Twinkle Dance' while ILyes offers the tech silkiness of 'Starting Now.' On the flip is a trio of less direct, more experimental sounds that sure do offer plenty to get lost in on headphones.

Extending the idea of splitting a slab of wax between artists to the music itself, 'Split Machine' is the latest from French-Spanish collaborators Jauzas The Shining and Cycloplex, united in their taste for rugged electro. Even so, their respective styles shine through nicely here: The former delivers three cuts of aggressive and textured basslines, while the latter offers two tracks of comparatively hypnotic rhythms. Review: 2-step gets speedy on this cheek-biter from Danny Goliger and Choopsie, two relative unknowns on the scene, yet whose efforts clearly need to be brought to a much wider audience. The A-sider 'AF Rex' sits somewhere between classic 2-step and cutesy TikTok reel music, but it errs far less on the side of knife-edge autotuned lyrics, preferring chirrupy vocal one-shots and instrumental fun instead. 'V/Eight' opens with a melancholic bassline under busy drum programming to get things going. Review: Berlin-based duo CYRK is comprised of Samy Goossens and Pascal Hetzel, and they've proven themselves to be a formidable force in the hinterland where electro and techno collide. Take this latest drop for Cultivated Electronics, which kicks off in earnest with the snarling, pumped up thrust of 'Attack Of The Blow Up Dolls'. 'Tsikey' keeps the mood nightmarish, but in a fun sort of way, with sprightly analogue synth lines cavorting over the slamming drums with glee. The techno element comes to the fore on the tightly wound, arp-charged 'Ahemait', and 'Needler' leans heavy on the funk without losing that stern demeanour that defines the CYRK output.

Review: As far as we can tell, Cyril The Great is relatively new on the scene, and certainly this is the first release on the Brave Potatoes label. In the absence of hard facts, we must zero in on the sound, and Cyril's got that on lock. If you appreciate hardware jams which sound like someone speaking through the circuitry, you're going to dig this record. Ostensibly this is braindance-esque electro with a home-listening sensibility, but it swerves any particular genre tropes to become its own idiosyncratic thing, which is of course the pathway to the most interesting music. If you love 303s given a proper workout until they truly sing, you'll be more than satisfied with this plucky spud.

Review: You could say, ahem, that Infiltrate has infiltrated deep into our conscious with its fine run of releases as we are well and truly locked in to the output each and every time. As far as we can tell, both of these artists are new names who are making their first releases here - or they are at least appearing on Juno for the first time. But the music is so impressive we find it hard to believe this is their debut. Cyphon kicks off with the tight, twitchy electro workout that is 'Hegemony' which Gene Harvest mixes into something more full fat and celestial. Konertymi's 'Valtameri' is a rich, colourful world of freeform melodic arps and arching heavenly chords while Astraali Suunnittelu could be a Kraftwerk does modern electro tune.

Review: Cybotron are best known as the early purveyors of electro as we know it, responsible for the genre's more mechanised incarnations from as early as the mid-1980s. Now, though, they "re-emerge in our contemporary cybercultural age when artifactual futures begin a transition into a new era of "Meta'", with two new tracks on Tresor, 'Maintain' and 'The Golden Ratio'. While this sentence might take some decoding, we're fain to speculate that it has something to do with the current mass-mediated zeitgeist centring on virtual reality and its implications for metaphysics, both of which right up Cybotron's street as concepts go. Something about the perturbed spirit of 2023 has awoken Juan Atkins and Laurens von Oswald from their decades-long slumber to produce this vocoded, deep-waving, technocult opus. We must figure out what!

Review: The latest drop on Undersound comes in the form of a split disc between Cyan85 and Leite Dos Santos, delving into the electro undergrowth and coming up with some deadly, ear-snagging club weapons. Cyan85 has been breaking through over the past couple of years with releases on Curtis Electronix and VOITAX amongst others, and he sounds strident as the vocoder gets busted out on 'If I Could' and more atmospheric terrain gets explored on 'Leave'. Leite Dos Santos, who also records as CEM3340, brings his own strains of freaky synthesis to bear on the wonderfully wobbly 'Before The Train' and charmingly dirty 'Night's Warrior'.

He kicks it off with 'Reflexivity' which pairs silky synths and well swung claps with Detroit techno sounds that Derrick May once dubbed hi-tek soul. 'Aerial' is another majestic machine workout with its own sense of heart and warmth from the finger clicks, bulbous bass and neon, wispy synths. Review: Hypno Disco has us well and truly locked again on its third release. The artist, Cryounik, remains mysterious but the music itself says plenty, though: it is futuristic electro with cyborg funk and plenty of paranoid vibes as if the robots are taking over. First up is 'OAP' with its glistening synths and corrugated basslines. 'Crystal Clear' then layers up percolating synths that rise ever higher over ducking and diving bass. There is a serenity to 'Listen List' that is offset by the ragged bass and then EP highlight 'Matik 3' has a broken beat, bust synths and twitching pads for the ultimate dance floor workout.

Review: After a superb repress of the Volvo Una Hit Italo classic, Bottin's Cristalli Liquidi project is back and this time in cahoots with French-Italiano electro pair Deux Control which is Justine Forever and Rodion. They have cooked up a selection of versions of 'Rosso Carnale' which, we understand, lyrically touches on the colour red and the gentle carnal forces of nature sung in Italian. There is a sped-up version from Bottin, a sparse mix from Deux Control and standout Mutant version with tougher drums but nice silky dub chords and a bright Italo version full of 80s synth nostalgia.

Review: Credit 00 continues to be one of the most fascinating weirdniks from Dresden's Uncanny Valley, offering up cheeky electro with heaps of personality. On a return visit to Berlin label Mechatronica, he's not holding back a jot on the wild-style ideas. Just listen to 'Ratlife In The Sunshine', which creates a hybridised footwork-Miami bass style twist up of Roy Ayers' 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine' with all the soul replaced by gnarliness. If that sounds like sacrilege, fear not - your boy Rat Life has the swerve to pull it off. The electro might be slightly more focused on the B-side, but these tracks still spit with non-conformist energy which is so very welcome when many stick to a very established genre formula.

Review: German artist Credit 00 raises an interesting conundrum - does trance need to be 'sad'? Do its usually formulaic melodies and structures necessarily mean it always has to be as gushing, emotional, and intense as it often is? Isn't trance that isn't sad just acid / happy hardcore? These might be among life's deepest questions and the artist attempts to answer them here across four rib-tickly bangers. The A-side brings us 'No More Sad Trance!', and while it does contain a wistful vocal repeating "always thinkin' bout you" (somewhat sad), its lead acid line opts for less melodic variation, while the drum palette sounds to borrow from UK hardcore. The B-side tunes are similar, but borrow from neighbouring styles like bleep and acid house, with 'Save The Forest' working in trancey vocal gateage while managing to not get too lost in rumination. Happy trance is a success, we say.
