Cool Rasta Man Cool (version) (3:10)
Review: This latest 45 rpm from Phase One is another crucial reissue. Steve Baswell dropped it back in 1978 and it is a now much sought-after record that will cost you the best part of three figures to get on OG on second-hand markets. It's a classy roots rocker that was originally recorded by Pat Francis for his own label and on the B-side you will find an instrumental version for some even more pure head melting rhythms. If you love roots rockers, you'd be hard-pushed to find much better.

Daweh Congo - "Holy Dub" (3:07)
Prince Alla - "Rose" (3:09)
Prince Alla - "Rose Dub" (2:57)
Review: The Satta Dub crew have assembled another superb platter and pressed it up to translucent green marbled vinyl and included an insert for good measure. It's a spit that opens up with Daweh Congo's 'Holy Place' which rides on tumbling drums with scattered hits. Yearning vocals up top and natty keys are paired with sultry trumpet notes. A dub dials it all back into the low ends, then Prince Alla's 'Rose' is a work of the same rhythm, by the sounds of it, with soulful vocals and playful horns. Another dub closes out this one in heady fashion.

Africa (4:01)
Africa (dub) (4:00)
Review: 'Africa' is the first release by Jamaican born singer Robert Dallas on Dub & Sound International, known for his releases on Roots Garden and Jamtone. Here he delivers one of his strongest vocal works, with lovely harmonies and the the theme of returning home to Africa, while B-side dub amplifies the rhythm and has electrifying energy that's perfect for the sound system. Dub & Sound International, a Finnish label, is quickly making a name for itself in reggae circles with its signature roots reggae sound and here again label boss Jaakko Penttinen handled the mixing in the best old school style. Stay tuned for more equally infectious releases later this year.

Batman (feat Gary The Tall & Exotic Gardens Reversion)
Batman (3:27)
Batman (Gary The Tall v Exotic Gardens Reversion) (4:11)
Review: Emotional Rescue takes another trip into the twisted world of post-punk dubs, electronics and oddities here at the hands of DJ, collector and radio host Gary The Tall. The original comes from German duo and new wave innovators Die Radierer whose pop-reggae jam 'Batman' is irresistibly catchy with its low-slung beats and lazy, sun-kissed melodies. It appeared on 1983's In Hollywood and was recorded at their home studio on a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder. Gary The Tall's remix finds him teaming up with Aaron Coyles under his new alias of Exotic Gardens and the results are loopy and dubbed out to perfection.

Review: Russ D makes a triumphant return here with two new instrumentals for Boom Shacka Lacka on a limited edition new 10". 'Blue Sky' is an explosive dubplate infused with fresh Prowling Lion vibes and showcasing a new style that's sure to captivate. A dub also features, naturally, and on the flipside, 'Reflections' delivers an old-school Disciples riddim. Uplifting strings and melodies layered over a slow yet powerful rhythm add to the all and elevate the vibes. Together, these tracks highlight Russ D's mastery in creating dynamic and impactful dub music that resonates with tradition and innovation.

Unseen World (5:22)
The Creator (5:52)
Pharaoh Dub (5:52)
4th Hour (5:21)
Review: Frenk, not Frank, Dublin (make sure you remember) delivers his second techno-dub-ish EP for Echo Ltd., following hot on the heels of last year's 'Echo Ltd. 007' EP. Whereas the prior outing was comparatively muted, as faded in sound as a miragic lighthouse only periodically peeking its light-rotations through the mist (also check out the goes-without-saying contribution to the label in between that one and this, from titanic genre domineers SND and RTN), the likes of 'Unseen World', 'The Creator' and 'Pharoah Dub' here veer into snappier and increasingly minimally-techy territory, adding both extra immediacy and rhythm to the mix. The tracks prove the many-faced versatility of the dub techno sound, not to mention its ability to segue almost unnoticeably between 4x4 and halfstep patterns. As usual, Dublin leaves the best till last, with '4th Hour' fleshing out the stab textures for a sliding, almost gut-scooping low-mid weight.

Live & Love (3:19)
Live & Love (version) (3:42)
Review: The influential John Holt has an immediately recognisable voice and contributed it to a huge array of reggae and dub hits. For this one, he works with Alton Ellis, master dub maker and ledge in his own right. This killer roots tune, 'Live & Love,' from the two titans was released originally in 1986. Yet all these almost 40 years later it still resonates with its signature 1980-81 Roots Radics style. The sweet vocal on the a-side is backed by a hard-hitting dub version on the flip that gives more room to the natty chords and endlessly echoing hits.

Review: Keith Hudson's Playing It Cool & Playing It Right is one of his most widely admired and loved for its soulful take on his dub template. Similar to Bullwackies who he collaborates with here, he was a unique innovator with a deeply rooted classical background. His early studio work involved esteemed musicians like the former Skatalites, and his initial releases produced hits for various reggae artists. However, Hudson's departure from this tradition is distinctive and entirely his own. His mature music ventures beyond Jamaica, and has found resonance in London and New York studio. His experimental style thrives in the LP format which has more time for him to really explore new ground.

Review: In 2001, Keith Finch and reggae manager Othman Mukhlis began retro reggae projects at Stanley House Studio. JA13 collaborated with 60s reggae legends like Alton Ellis, Derrick Morgan, Winston Francis, and Rico Rodriguez, leading to two solo albums with Rodriguez, championed by David Rodigan and Ranking Miss P. Their music appeared in TV shows and films, including Hawaii 5-0, Tesco ads, BBC programs, and 'Death in Paradise' and they've also contributed to a forthcoming Shaggy documentary. Finch worked with artists like Bob Andy, General Saint, and Madness and JA13's latest project is 'World Radio Dub - Chapter One.'

Review: Abendigo introduces a rising star from Jamaica, Abka Kaba, with this powerful new 12". His tune 'Mighty People,' pairs bold, fat-bottomed drums with some classic harmonicas and sleek synths. It is accompanied by two dub mixes from Hermit Dubz and on the flip side, legendary artist Prince Alla presents 'Backstabber,' marking his sixth collaboration with Abendigo Records. This special release includes two dub mixes and is limited to 300 copies on 12" vinyl.

Little Roy & The Twelve Tribes Band - "Dread Morning" (3:33)
Review: Erroneously credited solely to Fred Locks on its 1978 release, this superb set is in fact a showcase of the work of the 12 Tribes Of Israel band in collaboration with the aforementioned artist; the collab also includes Earl 'Little Roy' Lowe, Albert Malawi, the Creation Steppers and Cherry Rock. With the 12 Tribes first forming in 1968 as a Rastafarian organisation based in Kingston, this troupe brought exceptional works of OG lovers' rock to the table, amidst a wider cultic organisation that saw each member grouped into a formation modelled on the Biblical 12 tribes of Israel. You wouldn't know it from the sense of pure relief and love that wafts from the music here: Love & Harmony is a brilliant one, carrying a universalist message of racial and spiritual unity amid an acknowledgement of tough beginnings and the necessity of lock care.

Augustus Pablo - "Pablo In Red" (2:55)
Enos McLeod - "Version Aka Well Red" (2:53)
Review: Man like Augustus Pablo is revered amongst true dub heads. His ability to lay down killer riddims was second to none back in the day and this one is a classic amongst many. 'Pablo In Red' rides on a tuff rhythm from the mid-seventies that was originally produced by Enos McLeod. It has some enriching harmonics and wobbly low ends. On the flip, McLeod's 'Well Red' is a dubbed-out version with extra sonic spice making it more late night and twisted.

Augustus Pablo - "Pablo Nuh Jester" (2:39)
Enos McLeod - "Version Aka Last Of Jestering" (2:27)
Review: Augustus Pablo and Enos McLeod were something of a dub dream team back in the heyday of the gene in Jamaica. They produced plenty of great jams together, a few of which are being reissued at the moment. This one is another heavy hitter from the pair. 'Pablo Nuh Jester' pens up with some traditional drum shuffle and natty guitar work. The kicks sit perfectly in the bass while the florid bursts of harmonica are pure vibes. On the B-side, Enos McLeod steps up to rework and further dub out his own rhythmic framework and calls it 'Last Of Jestering.'

Review: Mattias Penselin aka Pensis meets Dub Me Ruff here, a German dub and reggae band made up of Danielle Mommertz, Hauke Wendler, Jan Roper, Markus Grapmeyer and Rolf Saggau. Their work is hugely authentic though and you might not necessarily know this wasn't from the 70s and a legendary suit like the Black Ar. The drums are fulsome and flabby, the hist scattered and the vocals add some crucial spice up top. Both cuts get more contemporary dubs and run through with all manner of percussive twists and turns.

Yeyo Perez & Coronel Brown - "King Inna Di Ring" (riddim version) (3:55)
Review: Cool Up Records's latest 12" maxi single features Spanish vocalist Yeyo Perez on two dynamic tracks, each presented in dual versions. 'King inna di Ring' and 'Burning in Flames' is fresh digital reggae that pays homage to traditional Jamaican MCs while infusing authentic new school style. The A-side showcases Perez's commanding vocals over a bass-driven groove, which is reminiscent of classic reggae clashes. Powered by the Casio MT-40 keyboard, it embodies the signature digital-dub sound and on the B-side, 'Burning in Flames' introduces Coronel Brown's smooth chorus, blending lovers' rock with Perez's rugged delivery. Crafted with dub and riddim variations, alongside rich instrumentation, this release exemplifies Cool Up's production prowess.

Review: Originally sold to Secret Records, this sought-after album features tracks recorded at Channel One Studio with Sly Dunbar at the helm. Despite its iconic cover featuring Darth Vader, the mixes remain solid, featuring tracks like Jimmy London's 'Ride On' and 'Open The Gate' by Well Pleased & Satisfied. While DubMusic has evolved, this album's riddims still hold up well, offering enjoyable dub with quality effects. In a competitive field, acknowledging its historical significance while recognising the evolution of dub music. Star Wars Dub remains a worthwhile addition to any collection, evoking nostalgia for the golden age of reggae and dub.

Mr Getty Getty (3:13)
Review: Reggae is a vast world with many, many different practitioners, but even by those standards, Prince Far I remains rather obscure. This is one of his jams from later on, after he had been renamed from Michael Williams by the well-known dub producer Enos McLeod. These two cuts on nice 7" from Orbit came all the way from the 70s and are signature deep-roots recordings. Both are cut on the 'Foggy Road' riddim, both are raw, dusty and 'Ley Jai Rise' features some visceral toasting. 'Mr Getty Getty' is heavy on the hissing hi-hats and cavernous drums.

Review: Seafront International is "honoured" to unveil a poignant tribute to the late, great Sandeeno, who left us far too soon. In that regard, and with the legacy he leaves, he joins the ranks of many other reggae legends. This long-awaited release originates from a recording session a decade ago at Backyard Studio UK, and since then it has lay patiently awaiting completion. Renowned Belgian producer Martin De Ronne, also known as Unlisted Fanatic, has impeccably handled production and mixing duties.
