Review: J Majik is of course a drum & bass don who not only knocked out killer DJ sets and productions but also headed up his own Infrared Records and made it into one the bastions of the scene from the mid-90s onwards. Thelatest from the label finds the man born James Spratling serving up the crushing breaks and doom laded synths of 'In The City', all designed meticulously and sure to make a massive impact. He then goes long on the 11-minute B-side epic 'Fantazia/Thanks & Praise' (feat Salva) which is a dark and hard hitting flurry of amen breaks and rave vocals.

Review: Okbron continues to plough into hidden corners of atmospheric d&b and jungle to find forgotten gems and give them a fresh airing. This time around they're turning to the work of Niko Brenscheid, the German producer who first emerged as Real Sportsman back in the mid 90s. He collaborated with Patrick Vollmari aka DJ Rusty Dust on the track 'Real & Rust' back in 1995, and now their synth-laden slice of Good Looking-styled jungle gets a tidy remaster for the modern age. Brenscheid and Vollmari also linked up as P.B.K., and their sultry jazz-licked track '20 Years' takes up the B-side of this high-grade 12".

Review: Man like Skeppy doing the gosh-darned thing! Swinging high from the Rubi rafters, his new label hits the 002 release with heavyweight charm and dark soulful panache. 'Rhubarb' is the dreamy cut of the bunch, easing us in gently with its gentle swirling strings, before 'Capsize' pushes us deep under the water with its robust murky militancy. Finally we have 'Foiled'. A classic minimal Skeppy set-up with a little nod towards the traditional jump-up sound, it's yet another open-and-shut case at the Rubi supreme court today.

Review: Goldie's superb Metalheadz label rains almost as influential now as it was during its earliest and most pioneering years. The boss himself has managed to keep on curating tasteful and innovative sounds and next up is Nookie and vocalist Ruth Royall with a brilliant brace which arrives just before Nookie's debut full length album for the label. The uplifting 'Hero' has refreshing drum breaks and lush pianos coverlid up top with some superbly powerful vocal harmonies from new generation talent Ruth. 'We Shall Overcome' then flips the script and explores soulful house music with good times vibes.

Review: Jungle heads strap in because this is some high grade, high octane tackle that id dense and physical and turned up to 100. Asymmetric kick off with 'Choppage' which is a potent breakbeat fusion with maximal sound designs and tight drum fills all demanding you make moves. Limit releases the pressure with a much more soulful and sparse jungle roller with rich, rubber bass and spine tingling vocals. Limit then kick off the flip side with 'Tell Me' and its raucous amens and vamping chords. Last of all, Limit & Asymmetric round out with 'Tonight' which features a classic vocal that tugs at the heart strings.

Review: This new 12" jungle splatter record marks a return for JLM Productions, best known in d&b circles for appearing on 4Hero's Reinforced label in the early to mid-90s, although closer research reveals JLM aka Jamie Myerson to be behind a myriad of releases of different hues for everyone from Josh Wink's Ovum to his own, prolific but unnamed 'own brand' label. Review: Aural Imbalance continues his prolific run of atmospheric d&b brilliance with a new drop on his own Spatial platform. The frequent ASC collaborator shares a similar affinity for breakbeats with a sci-fi sheen and expansive swathes of melancholic pads, but his style is all his own. 'Lunar Sunset' is as poignant and evocative as the title would suggest, with the synths taking precedence before a clattering break comes into the mix. 'Moonfall' has a tougher roll to carry forth the subdued melodics underneath, and 'Point Of Origin' gets busy with some deftly sliced Apaches and sparkling arps. 'Near-Earth Object' offers the barest slithers of beats and looming sub lines before the drums fire up to close the record out in style.

Review: Liquid Silk and Thumbs take two tunes each, one on either side of this new 12" from the fledgling Sonic Force label. It arrives in mega limited quantities and is a hot platter, to say the least: Liquid Silk's 'Arptazia' opens up with edgy and restless loops of busted beats and flapping snares, glassy meodies and distant pads that swirl round to bring some soul. Thumbzo brings some jazzy depths to his stylish 'Levitation' while the B-side opens up with another clatter of drums and percussion from Liquid Silk with his 'Visions' which eventually comes to life with some mellifluous and magical keys. Thumbzo is left to shut down with the dusty jungle breakbeats and sci-fi pads of 'Infinite'.

Review: Big up to Sonic Force for hitting release number ten and for doing it in fine style to boot. Islay is charged with soundtracking the mini milestone and does so with a limited and hand-stamped 12" featuring four deep and heady cuts. 'Trip To Arran' pairs delightful ambient pads with gently breaking synth waves and blissed out but wordless vocals. 'You'll Be Mine' ups the pace slightly but still deals in horizontal dub and heavenly pads and vocals and 'Pebbles' notches sit up one further with some slinky jungle breaks and melancholic pads. 'Castlehill (Victoria Street)' is another beautifully mournful cut with distant seagulls calls closing down an immersive EP.

Review: The latest Coco Bryce EP is different to much of his previous work, eschewing the retro-modern banger-science for something that edges much closer to liquid jungle. Fittingly for the style, an core theme on 'My Space' is that of personal dominion and interiors; like the reams of potential found in a family living room or kitchen, the tracks here are interpretable as everything from 'chill' to 'nostalgic' to 'creepy', depending on how you choose to hear them. The palette is eerie and objective, though Bryce's usual preference for unpolished joy shines through as ever in his choice of samples.

Sitting somewhere between 4 Hero and Earl Grey, each cut rattles and sparkles with that cosmic, otherworldly feel. Tension and dynamics range vividly as 'Right Ingredients' unhurriedly sets the scene while 'Raw Deal' ups the energy with score-like momentum. Flip for a Good Looking adventure into the cosmos on 'Just A Dream' before 'Island Cream' wraps up proceedings with the heaviest, drum-focused track of the EP. Review: Suburban Architecture is a project from Chris Read and James Curry which seeks to explore the expressive potential of drum & bass as a vessel for soulful musicality and rolling pressure alike. Carrying the torch from atmospheric d&b and the approachable tones of the Hospital Records crew, their latest 10" finds them turning to veritable legends for remixes which cement the angle they're exploring. Blame is up first, reworking 'Visions '96' in his own mould of melancholy, heart-rending composition strapped to the crispest of beats. 'Future Jazz '95' finds DJ Trace taking up the mantle and serving another masterclass in mellow, introspective d&b as pliable for the dancefloor as it is suited to home-listening reveries.

Review: 90s jungle and atmospheric drum & bass is lent an excitable, experimental edge by Finnish upstart ODJ Pirkka. This EP is about as radical as orthodox jungle can get, pushing the sound into ever-reaching corners of jump-up or even UK hardcore. 'OMG' is a samply, weird, choral breaks-masher, mixing in everything from dog woofing sounds to lasershots and reese womps between its rapidly fidgeting breaks variations. 'Bookworm', meanwhile, leans into more casual G-funk-whistly directions, resting on a more atmospheric waterbed, around which endless bubbles are heard popping, and reversed vocal samples mark transitions like passing mermaids. Review: Rasta Vibez is a focused outlet for fresh twists on the ragga jungle tradition, with a generous dose of feel-good flava thrown into the blender to reach across the divide and get everyone skanking hard. 'My Sound' is an insanely catchy, chirpy flip on the usually moody approach to ragga jungle with raw fire toasting and some anthemic chorus licks to get hands reaching skywards, just in time for the late summer stretch of festivals. 'Another Hit Song' is a rolling workout which keeps things punchy and on-point, teasing the energy on the breakdown before ripping back into the jump-up styles that get bodies popping off.

Review: Okbron have been more than happy to participate in DJ Trax's renewed resurgence following his album for Over/Shadow and a string of essential 12"s. Following last years Forest Dawn release he's back with two lush new tunes which prove he's as inspired as ever in the field of atmospheric d&b. 'As Day Breaks' opens up the record with the kind of strange, misty morning mood which billows out perfectly over the agile breaks, feeling classic and yet fresh all at the same time thanks to Trax's needlepoint drum programming. 'Forward Thinking' follows suit with another set of nuanced pads that move away from the played-out formulas of the genre. The strafing synth bleeps cutting through the mix are the icing on top of this masterclass from one of the best in the game.

Review: Rosebay Music is a new label from Submoprhics that opens its account with a new offering from the boss himself. He is someone with a unique style that is built on 174 bpm British foundations but adds elements from the foundational and more contemporary US styles of his homeland, from Detroit house to Chicago footwork. This debut 12' shows that to be the case again with 'Blastoff' bringing a lively juke-inspired rhythm with silky synths and nice lush chords. 'Cinerama' is another smooth roller, this time with spine-tingling female vocals.

'Live Ur Life' is a varied EP, beginning with the opening new age breaks of the title track, upon which we're geysered on high over humid rainforests of sound, while an ascendant vocalist - capable of wingless flight and incorporeality at will - accompanies us on our aloe vera-doused journey. Once we approach our quest's mythical, live-giving source, we're met with 'Virtuous' and 'Over The Hill', two raw yet revelatory Pandora's boxes uncovered somewhere deep in the heart of said jungle, and which both channel a dialectically calming yet ominous sound.
