Review: Surprisingly, it's been four years since Hospital Records last artist-led mix CD. Whether or not London Elektricity's imprint is attempting to rediscover their roots is unclear; either way, there's something pleasingly stripped-back and old-fashioned about this no-nonsense "mixtape" from rising star Etherwood. The DJ/producer picked up a clutch of gongs at last year's D&B Awards, and here takes on a warm, rich, rolling and inviting foray through drum & bass's more melodic pastures. While firmly floor-focused, with tracks from both big hitters and lesser-known names (it reportedly also includes nine previously unreleased exclusives), there are plenty of deeper, looser moments, with Etherwood touching on liquid D&B and deep jungle just as much as big room-friendly smashers and soulful anthems.

Review: For the second installment of their Mixtape series, Hospital Records has turned to Devonian duo Fred V and Grafix, who epitomize the label's festival-friendly outlook. They don't disappoint, either, dropping an action-packed mix that shoehorns 32 tracks into an hour of non-stop dancing fun. After kicking off with the guitar-laden hip-hop wooziness of Cyantific's "High Water Mark" and Dimension's tear-out beast "Whiplash", they variously touch on liquid, Hospital style "disco drum and bass", and harder flavours. Happily, they find room to include eight exclusives from a variety of producers, including a previously unheard VIP re-work of their own summer smash "Major Happy".

As you'd expect from the bazillion dollar Brazilian, the range is wide with tendencies to gully. Essential exclusives you'd be an absolute madman not to check include his deep-swing twist on Digital's seminal "Deadline", the insane sub bass slipperiness on Random Movement's incredible "In Space No One Can Hear You Funk" and the "Up All Night" style late 90s slap down with his brother Unreal "Enduro". Acting as a promotional tool for Hospital's increasingly popular Hospitality party brand, it offers an exciting and, at times, joyous journey through contemporary D&B that's never less than rip-roaring fun. There are plenty of D&B strands represented, from Hospital's own funk and string-laden style, via rave-tinted old skool junglisms (remixes from Stray and Nu:Tone), via deeper cuts (Sin, Blu Mar Ten) and even the odd spot of two-step (Frederic Robinson's superb "Laughing At Clouds"). Here Tony Colman's label celebrates 15 years of dancefloor bangers and changing attitudes with a fine anniversary collection. To celebrate, they've put together this action-packed mix CD of festival-friendly drum and bass stormers. In the best traditions of the Hospitality parties, it's a real non-stop rinse-out, with a whopping 28 tracks from Hospital regulars (Danny Byrd, Cyantific, Nu:Tone etc) and like-minded souls (D:Minds, Camo & Krooked, SPY) squeezed into an hour. This 2018 edition is something of an epic, featuring two discs of unmixed exclusives (all but one of which have never previously been released) and a thrill-a-minute, 60-minute mix of the same material by Bristol-based label stalwart S.P.Y. Review: Where Hospital's Fast Soul Music compilation was a celebration of the label's instinctively soulful D&B sound, this follow-up is far more steeped in 1990s nostalgia. As the title suggests, Fast Jungle Music highlights the influence of D&B's formative years - and specifically the ragga, dub and breakbeat influences of '90s jungle - on their expansive roster of artists. Being a Hospital release, melody and soul are still present, but often take second place to thrillingly loose and booming jungle breaks, throbbing basslines and deliciously old skool samples. The two discs are vaguely themed, but the differences are subtle, at best. Throughout, what's delivered is a perfect balance between liquid idealism and vintage rave madness.

Review: Two years have lapsed since the last CD celebration of Hospital's highly regarded party brand, Hospitality. This time round, London Elektricity's label has decided to expand the collection, cramming in no less than 60 floor-friendly tracks across two high energy, soul flecked, party-friendly mixes. Rather impressively, Hospitality 2015 boasts no less than 22 previously unreleased exclusives, including tracks from fast-rising starlet Maduk, Nu:Tone and Russ Chimes. Arguably the best of these, though, comes from Nu:Logic, whose VIP version of "Everlasting Days" brilliantly re-casts the original as a Todd Edwards style garage smasher. With further dancefloor gold from Lynx (the brilliant "Rim Shock"), High Contrast, Icicle and Logistics, there's no shortage of highlights.

Review: Astonishingly, London Elektricity's Hospital Records turns 21 this year. Naturally, they've pushed the boat out to celebrate, delivering a mixed compilation that manages to squeeze a whopping 68 tracks into two rolling, high-energy, action-packed DJ mixes by label veteran Nu:Tone. Even more impressively, 24 of those tracks - including cuts from S.P.Y, Logistics, and Anile - are brand new and previously unreleased. Musically, it's exactly what you'd expect - soulful, punchy, cheeky, musically rich, festival-friendly D&B - but few labels do this kind of future jungle quite as well as Hospital. In other words, if you enjoy the label's output, then you need this in your life.
