Strung Out (VIP)
Strung Out (Calibre remix)
Review: Calyx & TeeBee's award-winning All Or Nothing album just keeps on giving... Here we find one of the more understated, downtempo tracks getting a ruded out VIP treatment. A staple of Andy C's sets since spring 2013, it twists each and every element of the original on its head with laser-firing glee. Remix-wise things get very interesting as Calibre makes his label debut. Returning to the crystalline synthetic source, he's created a subtle roller that manages to reference trance with class in a way that only he could. Essential.

Nothing I Can Say
Review: Five years ago Calyx & TeeBee set a ridiculously high bar with their debut album Anatomy. Did they set an impossible task? Is that why it's taken so long? Not on your nelly, bass fans - clearly they've been honing their skills to create something even finer. From the moment you switch fluidly from Heavenly guitars to a filthy-ass bassline on the opener "Heroes & Villains" you know this is special. Move on for the "Brown Paper Bag" flavoured "Pure Gold" with Kemo. Or the lush, skippy wheezes and washes of the Calyx-fronted "Elevate This Sound". Or, for that matter, the grungey chaos of the Beardyman collabo "You'll Never Take Me Alive". Take your pick; every single tune is special.

Stepping Stones
Review: Ram have been on another signing spree this year, D&B stalwarts Calyx & Teebee being just one of their latest savvy business moves. "Scavenger" is a head nod to Ram's formative days as THE darkest, steppiest, techiest imprint. Raving and rampaging with whirling hoovers and heavily processed synths, there's more than a wee whiff of Ram Trilogy or Bad Company throughout. "Stepping Stones" meanwhile, is a head nod to Ram's current position as the go-to imprint for all things D&B. A jazz-flecked roller with equal parts old school and new, this is a quintessential lesson in cool, understated drum & bass.

Panic Attack (4:57)
Review: Building up anticipation for their third album 1x1 with every release, Calyx & Teebee sign off from 2015 with their fourth EP. "Cloud 9" counters their trademark punch bag bass and hook science with an interesting vocal from Larry Calyx himself that really makes itself known on the breakdown. Those hungry for an Anatomy flexback should jump straight on the B. White knuckle business: It's not called "Panic Attack" for no reason.

Where We Go
Cat: RAMM 193. Rel: 07 Sep 15
Where We Go (feat Doctor) (4:24)
Ghostwriter (4:21)
Review: More premium D&B goodness from the decorated duo Calyx & TeeBee; "Where We Go" features the instantly charming vocals of Doctor (the name behind the vocals on Flux Pavilion's summer banger "International Anthem") and drops into a bassline so elastic it should come with safety goggles. Flip for the darker, uncompromised sounds of "Ghostwriter" where the duo throw two tonnes of broken glass into their bass mix for a firmer, arresting low end sensation... And a very cheeky old school breakdown. There's a reason these guys are so respected.

A Day That Never Comes
Snakes & Ladders
Review: Ram powerhouse Calyx & Teebee return with their first original material in 18 months. And it's as filthy, firing and razor-sharp as you'd want it to be! Marking the start of their highly anticipated third album, both cuts showcase the duo's skills and ever-developing momentum. "A Day That Never Comes" punches hard with a heavily re-sampled, reverse-twisted bassline and Calyx on a rock-flex with his vocals. "Snakes & Ladders", meanwhile, is cut from the same jump-up cloth Hazard makes his dapper threads from. Not a sound you'd first expect from C&T but, laced with their tech-minded trickery, it really works. Like really works. We can't wait to hear the album.

Hitz (Delta Heavy remix)
Hitz (16Bit remix)
Review: "Hitz" the bombastic collaboration betwixt Chase & Status' and Mercury seeking rapper Tinie Tempah was always destined for single status and equally ripe for reimagination. Here Delta Heavy and 16Bit are entrusted with the stems and opt for suitably rowdy deviations into drum and bass and dubstep. Ram newcomers Delta Heavy do a sterling job in flicking between the half step stutter upon which Tempah's vocal outbursts ride and their signature high energy tear out riddims. In contrast 16Bit discard with Tinie's contribution altogether, or maybe it gets mashed up along with the rest of the source material into an abrasive ED209 sized dubstep monstah with neat "tick, tick, tick" vocal snatches paying homage to the junglist days gone by.

Rock N Roll

Rock 'N' Roll (4:41)
Wildlife (4:22)
Review: Powerhouse Ram collab business as Anglo-Dutch duo June Miller play a mean head-butting game with Russian trio Teddy Killerz. "Rock 'N' Roll" has one of the best intros Ram have released in a while before dropping into a sweaty, moshy, air-guitar-snapping halftime groove. "Wildlife", meanwhile, is a sharp, steppy jump-up jam with staccato bass and a powerfully funky breakdown with big percussion and cinematic horns. A near-perfect example of collaboration science.

Quasar (5:12)
Space Junk (3:46)
Hawking Radiation (3:52)
Review: Russian Teddy shredders have gone well and truly next level since signing to Ram. Here are four examples why: "Hyperspeed" is a straight-up turbo-charge neuro roller with more basslines than you've got trousers, "Quasar" is all about the heavy metal guitar riff, "Space Junk" is all about classic breaks and speaker-ripping reese bass while "Hawking Radiation" closes the show with the most twisted designs of the EP: all jittering drums and paranoid bass worms wriggle and writhe in such a way you may feel sea sick... In the best possible way, of course.

Half Light (original)
Half Light (Audio remix)
Review: The man behind the highest charting D&B tune of 2013 returns with another potential top 10 slapper. "Half Light" follows the emotionally reflective post-rave sentiments of "Afterglow" with melodic majesty. Rushy, touching and delivered with synth-striking dynamism, it's got potential to cause festival and airwave meltdown this summer. And for those who demand a darker command, the mighty Audio has provided the ultimate remix complement; filthy, twisted and uncompromising, it's the perfect balance.

False Alarm (4:33)
Review: While Calyx & Teebee have been working together since 1004, 1x1 is their first collaborative full-length excursion for four years. Typically, it hits hard from the start, with the bombastic neuro-funk smasher "Nothing Left" setting the tone. There are plenty more big room bangers, of course, including the ragga-jungle revivalism of "False Alarm", and bowel-bothering heaviness of "Ghetto (feat Doctor)". It's not all straight-up dancefloor filth, though; check, for example, the Police-sampling vocal shuffler "Long Gone", the trap-step wobble of "Cloud 9", and the Hospital style, radio-friendly, festival drum and bass of "Takes One To Know One".

Review: Ring the massive album klaxon and ring it some more... Russian trio Teddy Killerz finally deliver their debut album and from the moment you hear the Freddie-style chant on "Teddy's Song" and the droning dark harmonics of "Unbelievable" you know that it's every bit worth the wait. Banger after banger, we're assaulted with trouble: the Pendulumian riff danger of "Bahloo", the stereo-shredding, Arnie-blasting "Chopper", the sheer audacity of dark/light fusions on "Ready", the list goes on... Teddy Killerz have gone to town on this.
