Now this 12" cherry picks the strongest cuts and gets them back out there into the physical realm, focusing on Trace's own work and collaborations with his co-conspirators. The Concord Dawn remix of 'Mutationz' is a hyphy kick-off to the A-side before the dark n' deadly 'Move' link up with Ryme Tyme. Trace and Voyager turn up the pressure with the Reese attack of 'Sniper' and then it's Nico who joins the boss for a cooler, deadlier crusher called 'Replicants'.

He's rolling neck deep with kindred soldiers; Radiokillaz and Fleck get wild on the breaks on 'Lakes On Saturn', Riffz dusts off the detuned rave stabs for that aggy hardcore flavour while VJ himself whips up some delightful breakbeat switchery that melts into a dubwise breakdown for momentary respite. Radiokillaz close down the EP with a touch of soul on 'Time Again', a poignant space jazz joint laced with mournful strings and a yearning vocal. Meltdown.

Review: The quality d&b landing on Okbron just doesn't let up, as the prolific label turns its attention to Gen & Ryde, a new collaborative project between Mark Wilson and Ryan Miles. Mark Wilson is mostly associated with early Fokuz Recordings output from around 20 years ago, while Miles was dropping heat on Good Looking sister label Looking Good around the same time. If you love silken atmospheric d&b with a jazzy tint, you'll be more than satisfied by these immaculate conceptions, from the hazy funk of 'Low Frequency Satellite' to the smoky mood of 'Tian Fire'.

Review: Goldie's superb Metalheadz label rains almost as influential now as it was during its earliest and most pioneering years. The boss himself has managed to keep on curating tasteful and innovative sounds and next up is Nookie and vocalist Ruth Royall with a brilliant brace which arrives just before Nookie's debut full length album for the label. The uplifting 'Hero' has refreshing drum breaks and lush pianos coverlid up top with some superbly powerful vocal harmonies from new generation talent Ruth. 'We Shall Overcome' then flips the script and explores soulful house music with good times vibes.

Review: Fresh from his maximal debut album 'Unbearable Lightness', Colombian Rachiid Paralyzing returns to an older project that he's been incubating since 2018. Essentially the sound of him refining his signature and focus, both cuts are more functional than his more experimental stuff now but both still defy the usual tropes and typicalities of breakbeat music. 'Mi Mama Dic K No' subverts ideas of electro as shades of melody morph, mutate and overlap over growling bass while 'Run Miami Run' is an all-out acid/breaks riot jam. A very interesting release - especially if you're still recovering from the mind-exploding matter of his recent album. Run come get some.

Review: Raito has released big tunes on the likes of Deadmau5' Mau5trap label before now, often loosely within the realm of tech house. Here he shows off a real love for, and a fine understanding of, bass music, however, on the fledgling Safe Raver. 'Black Tracksuit' throws it back to first wave dubstep in the sonic references - bleeping dial melodies, crunchy breaks and heft bass. 'Foresight' is then a busy flurry of jungle, with mad snare programming and subtle rave motifs. 'Junk Dog' slows it down but keeps the heavy bass and brain frying synth work next to big piano stabs. Complementing his rapid fire chats with equally thundering amens, it's got reload written into every red groove. Flip for more smoky sonic sermons as they take on another spark-up standard "Herbalist" with such authenticity you could easily be convinced it's 1992 again... Especially if you've practiced the lyrical content so much you think time travel is a thing. Pure Vibez.

Review: As the name of the label well represents, Rasta Vibez out of Holland brings, well, rasta vibes to jungle sounds. The eponymous production outfit steps up here with more highly potent bangers designed surely for the beefiest sound systems to turn up loud and proud this summer. 'Greetings' is both energetic but fun, with wild ragga vocals unfolding at hyper-speed over the tough metal breaks. Flip over this rather nice transparent green 10" and you'll find 'Bam Bam The Alarm' complete with rinsing drum loops, naughty synth explosions and more ragga vocals that will blow up any spot.

Review: The Fokuz sub label Rasta Vibez continues to shape itself out as an essential d&b label on its own terms with this latest sure shot. The clue is in the name, as the shadowy crew behind the imprint continue to explore explicit crossovers between roots and dub with modern breakbeat science. 'Observer' marries deep, swimming echo chamber skank with a crisp, rolling rhythm, while 'Love Is The Key' has a brighter, bouncier demeanour helped no end by the infectious bump of the b-line and the mellow piano chops.

Review: Rasta Vibez is a focused outlet for fresh twists on the ragga jungle tradition, with a generous dose of feel-good flava thrown into the blender to reach across the divide and get everyone skanking hard. 'My Sound' is an insanely catchy, chirpy flip on the usually moody approach to ragga jungle with raw fire toasting and some anthemic chorus licks to get hands reaching skywards, just in time for the late summer stretch of festivals. 'Another Hit Song' is a rolling workout which keeps things punchy and on-point, teasing the energy on the breakdown before ripping back into the jump-up styles that get bodies popping off.

Review: As the Rasta Vibez label nears its 25th release, the eponymous production outfit take care of this new orange 12", and do not muck about. 'So Mi Like Ii' is a barrage of amen breaks and drilling dub bass. It's overlaid with a flurry of extra drums and perc and has rasta vocals lighting it up even further. A real dancefloor filler. On the flip is the sun-kissed sound of 'Messed Up' with its patios vocals, dembow overtones and hard-edge drums eventually turning into another jungle workout. Killer stuff.

Review: Ravetrx is allegedly a new alias of a bonafide legend of the hardcore continuum, though the name has not yet been revealed by the label. Whether this is a true contribution from someone who has really touched the aforementioned sonohistorical Gulf Stream, or a mere marketing ploy on the part of the label E-Beamz, remains to be seen. Whatever the case, though, 'Final Fantasy', 'Trickshot', 'Fifth Drops Poly' and 'Scatta' are veritable anti-fucking-about tunes, establishing crunchy breakwork and progressions of the no-nonsense variety. For those who like their jungle drums unpredictable, 'Fifth Drops Poly' is your polyrhythmic highlight.

Review: From silver beard to golden platter; Ray Keith is celebrating 30 years of Dread Recordings and looking back over his own career with 'The Golden Years', a collection of classics and rarities from the earlier phases of jungle drum & bass. 'Monsters 99' is a hard hitting Amen happy slap with plenty of over-driven bass and a Dillinja-style groove. Review: Okbron continues to plough into hidden corners of atmospheric d&b and jungle to find forgotten gems and give them a fresh airing. This time around they're turning to the work of Niko Brenscheid, the German producer who first emerged as Real Sportsman back in the mid 90s. He collaborated with Patrick Vollmari aka DJ Rusty Dust on the track 'Real & Rust' back in 1995, and now their synth-laden slice of Good Looking-styled jungle gets a tidy remaster for the modern age. Brenscheid and Vollmari also linked up as P.B.K., and their sultry jazz-licked track '20 Years' takes up the B-side of this high-grade 12".

Review: Myor Massiv dial up two of the heaviest operators in contemporary jungle for a sure shot split 12" which will charge up the dance whichever side the needle drops on. 'Lucky Go Happy' is a chirpy workout from Reaper, getting lyrical with the snare rushes, pinging some sprightly chords around the mix and juggling some diva vocal licks without losing that sharp edge that always marks out his tunes. Coco Bryce brings a more widescreen, techno-styled palette to 'Down The Way' on the flip, but there's still plenty of space for swerves into giddy old-skool sampling deployed with the flair which has made him one of the brightest talents in the field. Jungle by numbers this ain't.

Traversing classic rave, breakbeat, minimalism and jungle, '858 ASS' is a wide-armed and deep-diving exploration... 'Azimuth Circle' is a pristine technoid roller with shimmering percussion and hypnotic momentum, 'Orissarre' is a stark slice of jungle futurism, 'Inslandsis' takes us back to the halcyon early 90s acid house era while '5AM At Circle K' hits with bassline fire and dynamic, sparse ice. Review: Roffa than ruff! Netherlands craftsman Mike Redman (AKA Deformer) unites local MCs Bigman Scep, Swift and Dart for this big singalong skank-out. Tailored for festivals, it pays homage to the roots with big party energy. Meanwhile on the remix front we're bombarded with an all-star cast as UK OGs Bizzy B and Ed Rush both get stuck in alongside Mike under his Deformer alias. Bizzy is all about the modern rave twist while Ed Rush gets an old Bad Company style and Deformer goes all-out breakcore. Elsewhere on this double 12" opus we see Mackadena get the breaks on, Rotterdam Terror Corps go full hardcore and Akira teasing us with a little twist of gabber. High grade Dutch business.

Review: Further evidence of the thriving relationship between techno and drum & bass can be found right here as Spanish industrialist Reeko ups the tempo for this stunning conceptual EP for Samurai. Inspired by the process, tradition and culture of ayahuasca ceremonies, over four tracks we're taken on a deeply hypnotic trip where the percussion and militant rhythm echo Reeko's more typical work (notably on his label Mental Disorder) but weave and twist with a different, almost psychedelic edge. It's a classic vibe for Samurai but very contemporary one for Reeko. Let's hope we get to experience more of this.

There's space for meditation and cinematic tension, intriguing rhythms and plenty of pressure, which makes for a natural fit on a label like Samurai. Following last year's standout statement of intent, Confront The Serpent, Reeko returns with another formidable four-tracker loaded with psychedelic energy and heavyweight presence which offers a unique slant on this fertile zone of experimentation in the modern club landscape.

Review: Lukid's ravey jungle side-alias Refreshers has been going steady for a good deal of time now, and this fresh one 'Bugged' is no exception to his usual rule of tricksy breakwork, exemplifying a mastery of the nuskool-oldskool time dilation heard in much modern jungle. A-siders 'Bugged' and 'High In Me' seem to contain multiple layers of breaks per track and phrase, treating the bedrock of the breakbeat almost like a harmony. Cetacean moods play out on 'High In Me', which continue on 'Make Me Feel So Good', which recall the chirpy chipmunk movements of Doss or Orca in recent years. Closer 'Off My Mind' is much darker, and an eclectic experiment in any case.

Review: Contemporary drum & bass bringers Response & Pliskin take a break from their pressurised plus-170 numbers for a dreamy foray into atmospheric breaks and liquid jungle. 'Live Ur Life' is a varied EP, beginning with the opening new age breaks of the title track, upon which we're geysered on high over humid rainforests of sound, while an ascendant vocalist - capable of wingless flight and incorporeality at will - accompanies us on our aloe vera-doused journey. Once we approach our quest's mythical, live-giving source, we're met with 'Virtuous' and 'Over The Hill', two raw yet revelatory Pandora's boxes uncovered somewhere deep in the heart of said jungle, and which both channel a dialectically calming yet ominous sound. Closer 'Hate Is Reality' refuses to deny hate as a fundamental composite of our lives, healthily channelling this extreme affect into a measured but heavy amen riffer.

Review: At this point Okbron is a byword for the best atmospheric d&b coming out these days and while they may have drawn people in with their archival and reissue offerings, they're just as vital for platforming new music. Response & Pliskin represent the best of Manchester's d&b scene, and they've delved into a particularly mellow sound world for this release. 'Soon Forgotten' is a dreamy, subtly haunting roller with a clean, crisp beat and fulsome subs you can just float on, while 'Mainstream' deals in more layered, evolving pad tones and diced up breaks without losing that light, airy feel you want from a proper atmospheric release.

Review: Polish party vibes courtesy of Riffz. 'Twilight Rhythm' brings the ephemeral rave feels with its big airy pads and big sweeping jazzy breaks. It's in good company; 'Why' asks all the hard questions over some tightly rolled drums and dank, slimy aesthetics, 'Second Thoughts' switches up the drums into a much fresher, cosmic brew while 'Game Over' (with Subreachers) closes on a poignant, thoughtful note. Review: V's history sessions continue as more long-sought after dubs of yore get unleashed. This time it's Bristol pioneer Roni with two very different moods. 'Cold Front' is a deep and jazzy roller for those heads-down Running Man moments while 'Locked Down' is an early 2000s laser blazer thanks to its massive electro-style bassline and swaggering, hard-hitting kicks. A cult Movement favourite anthem from the time, this one's been a long time coming.

Review: The superb Kniteforce label takes no prisoners once more with a blistering new EP from The Rood Project that is a perfect time-warp back to the heyday of 90s rave. The Crack Of Dawn 12" actually dropped in 1993 and is an experimental jungle techno mash up for peak time listening. It's dark, energising and packed with great samples about being high. And that's just the title track - 'Scary' is like a rollercoaster that breaks free of its rails and 'Crimestretch' is a cacophony of dark, brutal breaks and drilling bass.
