Ramm200 (trifold triple 12" (side 6 etched))
Ram
Cat: RAMM 200. Rel: 15 Feb 16
  1. Culture Shock - "Piano Dark" (original dub) (5:59)
  2. Mind Vortex - "Future Fold" (4:56)
  3. June Miller - "Robots & Romans" (audio remix) (5:53)
  4. Kryptic Minds - "The Truth" (Insideinfo remix) (5:54)
  5. Rene Lavice - "The Calling VIP" (4:53)
Review: Andy C's mega-label Ram celebrates the big 200 in style: triple vinyl in trifold sleeve with etched sixth side, each of the five cuts represent Ram's dark, start extremes. The touching depths of Culture Shock's long-awaited "Piano Dark", the Noisia-level antics of Audio on his June Miller, InsideInfo's deep throat bass on "The Truth" and the add bass fluctuations on Rene's VIP. 200 singles deep and still killing it, Ram have put together a serious package here.

Cat: SPEAR 097. Rel: 30 Jan 19
  1. Transatlantic (feat Logistics) (4:37)
  2. We Lose (feat Nymfo) (4:06)
  3. Waiting (feat LAOS) (4:46)
  4. Hearts Wander (feat Seba & Emily Harkness) (6:16)
  5. Another Me (feat Klute) (5:09)
Review: MC Fava releases his debut artist EP and he's doing it in pure style as he recruits some of the most respected producers in the game: Logistics, Nymfo, LAOS, Seba and Klute. It doesn't get much better than that, and neither do the vibes; the soft harmonies on "Transatlantic", the yearning poignancy of "We Lose", the total uplift and emotion of "Waiting", the star gazing thrust of "Hearts Wander" and the darker drive of the almighty finale "Another Me" all comprise and fuse to paint the clearest picture of Fava's unique musical style to date. Let's hope we see more.

  1. Navigator & Ranking Joe - "Junglist Sound" (Serial Killaz remix) (5:13)
  2. Jamalski, Rocker T & Mr Live - "Put It On" (Liondub & Bluntskull remix) (4:51)
  3. Johnny Osbourne & Marcus Visionary - "Lend Me" (5:17)
  4. Bladerunner & DJ Westy - "Original Bad Boy" (5:57)
Review: What a ting! North America's running wild with drum & bass right now but here are two of the realest, most enduring names: Marcus Visionary and Liondub International. Four tracks taken from Marcus's recent mix album, highlights include aggy dancehall hip-hop fusion of "Put It On" and the utterly disgusting roller "Original Bad Boy" from Bladerunner and DJ Westy. Featuring the likes of Navigator and Rankin Joe, there's some of the strongest voices possible on this collection. The Atlantic gates are well and truly open.

Exodus (12")
Cat: VSN 004. Rel: 20 Jun 07
  1. Exodus (feat KRS One)
  2. Exodus (instrumental)
Review: Having made a name for themselves creating the most evil drum & bass music the world has ever seen, in recent months Noisia have been seen DJing at house clubs, releasing singles with prominent house labels and most recently remixing for the likes of Robbie Williams! However, it wasn’t long before they decided to go back to the dark side and join forces with good friend Mayhem to come up with something more disgusting than ever. Oh, and they got KRS One to provide the vocal on "Exodus"! A truly breathtaking intro, bursting with evil foreboding, sets the scene, before Noisia and Mayhem unleash the darkness with their signature drum programming alongside futuristic, never heard before beats and breaks.

Stratos (12")
Cat: FOKUZ 082. Rel: 08 Apr 16
  1. Phaction - "Stratos" (Total Science remix) (5:19)
  2. Malaky, Satl & Silence Groove - "Skyfall" (6:23)
Review: More 20/20 goodness from longstanding Dutch imprint Fokuz. First up is a Total Science refix of Phaction's 2015 liquid vocal workout "Stratos" where the duo add more weight to the drums, space between the elements and big dubby plunges to the bass. Flip for a brand new original from label mainstays Malaky, Sati and Silence Groove. Blessed with breathy vocals, slinky drums and big washy textures, it's a great warm-up device that builds with cinematic effect throughout.

Shuriken Vol 2 (pink vinyl 12")
Cat: SHA 147. Rel: 08 Jul 19
  1. Pola & Bryson - "Find Your Way" (feat Charlotte Haining) (5:17)
  2. Glxy & Gzb - "Yes Jah" (5:13)
  3. Mitekiss - "Some People" (4:34)
  4. Signal - "How Will I Know" (3:57)
Review: Shogun Audio dig deep into the vaults once again for a collection of long-demanded vinyl outings. Taken from right across the label's broad spectrum, we kick off with Pola, Bryson & Charlotte Haining's anthem sing-along "Find Your Way" before GLX follow with one of their darkest steppers to date "Yes Jah". Meanwhile on the flip Mitekiss's piano-massaging dreamweaver "Some People" before Signal's hurricane vocal headbutt "How Will I Know You" shuts down the session in timeless style. Grab it while you can.

  10. Don't Forget (4:11)
  11. Falling (feat MVE) (4:10)
  12. Solarize (feat Logistics - album mix) (4:34)
Review: Young Dutch firebrand Maduk continues to scorch the D&B landscape with his first full length body of work. Showcasing his full spectrum, we stretch from barbed-soul, heads-down rollers such as "One Way" to the poppier, song-based hand-raisers such "The End" and the pumping filtered funk of the title track by way of off-tempo sideswipers such as the 150 breakbeat cut "One Last Picture". A highly accomplished album: As the entire scene watches his every move, the Liquicity champion continues to make all the right moves.

  13. Mystic Crystals (feat Technimatic) (5:16)
  14. Nexus (feat Pola & Bryson) (4:13)
  15. Merchant Blessing (feat MC Conrad) (4:31)
Review: Makato is often cited as one of the pioneering founders of Japan's drum & bass scene. He's now up to his sixth studio album and it finds his airy, rolling, sweet flowing beats all present and correct. "Tomodachi Sessions" derived from a series of collaborations with close friends who have all played a part in his 25 year career. DJ Marky, S.P.Y, Bop and MC Conrad all feature and lend their own personalities to an album that offers celebratory hands in the air tracks like "Shine On Through" next to more late night dancers like "Transparent" and melodic explorations like "Show Me How You Feel".

Review: Since gate crashing the drum and bass party back in 2009, Mefjus (AKA Austrian producer Martin Schober) has consistently delivered high quality material for a range of labels, most notably Critical Recordings. This time out he's operating on Vision Recordings, offering up a second album, some four years on from releasing his well-received debut full-length. After opening with the foreboding, scene-setting cyber-ambient of "Manifest", the long-serving DJ/prodiucer proceeds to lay down a rip-snorting selection of peak-time D&B cuts marked out by dark and throbbing neruofunk style wobble basslines, clandestine textures, creepy orchestration and punchy, occasionally rolling breakbeats that occasionally tend towards the old school. There are also occasional blasts of experimental D&B - see "Ringshifter" and the stabbing "Work It" - and hard-to-define bass music fusions containing notably weighty low-end motifs.
