Nightlife 6 EP Part 2
Cat: RAMM 152. Rel: 08 Nov 13
DC Breaks - "Slugs"
Rene Lavice - "Portland"
Stealth - "Nightfall" (feat Codebreaker)
Dose - "Bounce Off"
Review: The second instalment of the Nightlife 6 EP, it's yet another picture perfect snapshot of modern day D&B taken by Andy C. DC Breaks take the lead with the razor-sharp steps and bruising bass burps of "Slugs" and LaVice follows with the almighty drone attack "Portland". Conjuring up memories of Full Cycle in their prime, it's a timeless hurter. Stealth & Codebreaker take us to the darkest possible corners with a punishing amen attack while Dose's "Bounce Off" lives up to its name in every way. Exceedingly heavy.

The More I Want
Cat: RAMM 96. Rel: 22 Apr 11
The More I Want (feat Rox)
Take That
Review: Exclusive Ram signing DC Breaks follow up their 2009 smash hit "Pickett Line" on sub-label Frequency with another hands-in-the-air anthem featuring lush, soaring vocals from Rox. DC Breaks fans may remember her from the duo's superb remix of "My Baby Left Me" a year or so ago. Catering for the Annie Mac market this time, they blend rolling percussion with sonorous, melodic strings and finish it with a glossy polish. "Take That", up next, kicks off with unnerving notes, sci-fi synth swoops and sweeping strings, before dropping into classic Ram tear out, complete with rowdy bassline, growling vocal sample and soaring synths aplenty. Massive.

If This Is Love (4:19)
If This Is Love (VIP) (4:06)
Review: Ram duo DC Breaks don their Bermuda shorts, slap on the sunny and capture the seasonal spirit with this sumptuous guitar-blessed roller. Think early Marky, think Patife, think sunset vibes at your favourite festival. A little too light for your barbed, bass-bitten soul? Jump on the VIP and prepare to get murked. Is this love? no it's bloody lovely.

Faithless (feat Bianca) (4:07)
Gambino (VIP) (3:47)
Review: The first fruits of DC Breaks' forthcoming album (released - like Ram label mates Wilkinson and Sub Focus before them - on Virgin EMI), "Faithless" combines the duo's ability to lay down a bassline so sharp and gritty it's technically a deadly weapon with a radio-ready, arms-up, end-of-night vocal. "Gambino VIP" is an exemplary example of VIP science; the original on steroids with added angst and raw power. This is how gangsters roll...

Burning
Review: It's been an incredible year for DC Breaks, this being their third major 12" on Ram since January. "Gambino" comes with a juicy, croaky bass hook that's instantly distinctive and works well in almost every possible double drop scenario. "Burning" flips the vibe for something more electro-charged. With a show-stopping vocal, big synth-hammered bass and that chop-slapping 'whomping' sound that you often find on Viper releases, it's a source of instant dancefloor drama. DC Breaks are killing it right now.

Proton
Review: We're barely half way through the year and DC Breaks have already provided D&B floors with two crucial Ram releases. Following the deserved acclaim on "Shaman / Let it Go", both "Swag" and "Proton" show DC at their most defiant. "Swag" is the duo at their darkest with a grizzly, staccato riff that pummels with the pneumatic chest-press riddim. "Proton" is a little lighter, with just a teensy air of electro to the muscly bass make up. Both are absolutely essential. Get your swag on!

Bambino (4:10)
Bad Flow (4:12)
Review: From the makers of "Gambino" comes "Bambino". A true roller coaster of a track with all its twists and turns, it's every bit as electrifying and densely textured as you'd expect from one of Ram's most heavyweight duos. For something a little on the leftside flip for the tripped out triplet rhythm with its downpitched vocals and strange synth flurries. The two sides of DC Breaks showcased in true style; it's yet another straight-to-dancefloor classic.

Infinity (4:42)
Embargo (4:57)
Review: Whoever put DC Breaks and Prolix in the same room should take the week off. Ridiculously good work there... As proved by these two insane dancefloor scrappers. "Infinity" is a real drama session with Upbeats-style drones on the fills, neuro tones in the bass and a breakdown that will crush you. "Embargo" is almost punk like in its unruly raffishness. Suzzy, distorted and fizzing with badness, this will slay any floor from any corner. Incredible scenes.

Get By (Delta 174 mix)

End Of Days
Make It Rain
Review: Delta Heavy have been making a name for themselves thanks to the trusty Ram Records, bridging the gap between post-pop and jump-up. "Get By" is all snares and guns ablaze, broken down thanks with some lyrical voices and luscious chords. "Turbine" is just downright Ram dirt, with its pounding bassline howling away like there's no tomorrow. "End Of Days" is another peak-time romper stomper complete with long, swaying bass oscillations, but it's "Make It Rain" that tears everything down to pieces - menacing, full-on dubstep wobbles here - BEWARE!

Ghost (4:16)
Tremors (3:07)
Review: Ram champs Delta Heavy are deep into their debut album. And if this type of spread is what we can expect from it, we're in for a treat; "Ghost" is the lead track. All radio-ready and heavy on the vocals, it's in the same league as La Roux's "In For The Kill" (albeit at a different tempo). After something much darker and gnarly? Flip for "Tremors". The clue in the title; it's the duo at their hardest and heaviest. Two sides, two stories, two more reasons to keep Delta Heavy locked on the radar.

White Flag VIP (4:32)
Arcadia (feat Metrik) (3:09)
Review: Switching a lighter raising ballad with the energy and gusto of a sugar-high kid at Christmas, Delta Heavy's "White Flag VIP" has been anticipated since Andy C started teasing it around his Alexandra Palace show. Already loaded with feels, the new double time drums add even more emotion and euphoria. Flip for an out-and-out electrical fire as they team up with Metrik for a balls-out, peak time slap session. Excruciatingly good.

The World Is Yours
Review: It's been a while since Delta Heavy last served up muscular bass cuts like these. Naturally the wait's been more than worth it. "Apollo" ignites with an intro so epic it will singe hairs off every member of your dancefloor. Dropping into mammoth bass textures and spine-melting synths, it's Delta Heavy at their heaviest. "The World Is Yours", meanwhile, is funkier synth-heavy groove that nags with nuances of techno and shades of 80s Moroder. Welcome back Delta Heavy... Don't leave it so long next time!

City Of Dreams (4:35)
Review: Delta Heaviness: this debut album has been on the cards since the UK duo signed to Ram in 2010 and they've not disappointed. Four of the 14 tracks, pressed to double 12", it's a sizzling synapse-snapping screenshot of where Ben and Si are at: feather-ruffling electrified bass, spatterings of rifle guitar blasts and beats so strong they could melt concrete. Climaxing with the hands-in-the-air vocal slap-down "City Of Dreams", each of these four cuts are primed for the peakest of peak hours. Delta Heaven.

Oscillator (4:12)
Fun House (3:46)
Review: Taken from their long-awaited debut album Paradise Lost, Ram roustabouts Delta Heavy deliver two distinct party bombs: "Oscillator" is a guttural growler with a staccato riff and tumbling tripletty drums and a second drop that shreds all the way up from Hades itself. "Fun House" shows the duo's more mischievous side as a post-jump-up riff licks with an atonal forked tongue over titanium beats. Immense.

Too Close (VIP)
Review: The unstoppable Wilkinson returns with another chop-slapper from his Lazers Not Included debut album, "Too Close" is one of his most emotional tracks to date as Detour City's vocals surge across the soulful, swinging riddim. Breaking down into a rich organic funk break, it shows a whole new side to the Twickenham superstar. For added welly head for the VIP; with added drum power and more uplift in the bass, it's not dissimilar to High Contrast's best work. A showcase of subtle VIP science.

Review: Despite beginning their ascent through the bass music ranks in 2010, it was 2016 brilliant debut album "Paradise Lost" that turned Delta Heavy into global underground stars. Since then, anticipation has been building for this belated follow-up. Happily, there are no signs of the duo succumbing to "difficult second album" syndrome; in fact, "Only In Dreams" is, if anything, even more effervescent than their lauded debut. It's still rooted in drum & bass and dubstep, but this time round they've blurred the boundaries between disparate styles of bass music even further, with an impressive list of guests and collaborators - Kuuro, Rae Hall, Zeds Dead, Muzzy and Modestep included - taking turns to make their presence felt.

Review: Some six years after delivering their first single, EDM-jungle fusionists Delta Heavy has finally got round to recording a debut album. As you might expect, Paradise Lost is a bombastic and in-your-face affair, with the London-based duo fusing blistering breakbeats, punishing basslines, mind-altering electronic stabs and razor-sharp synth lines in an endless quest for dancefloor perfection. Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of potential anthems amongst the 14 tracks, from the grandiose vocal cut "City Of Dreams", and R&B-dubstep fusion "White Flag", to the mind-bending late night wobble of "Pathways", and the frankly filthy, hard-to-pin-down "Oscillator".
