Review: DJ Sofa returns to the Myor Massiv label with more of her dancefloor heaters. The A-side is all about bring big time party energy to the club with raga samples, gun finger bait, hooky melodies and of course some firing jungle breakbeats underpinned by drilling basslines. The flipside jam 'Over & Over' has plenty more fire in store with its old school signifiers, hardcore pitched up vocals and rave melodies over plunging bass stabs and well designed breaks. This is another essential 12" destined for big things.

Review: Wild experimental drum & bass here from longtime scene legend Dom & Roland. Out via his own imprint, this one comes to an exquisite yellow-orange vinyl slab. Its A-sider hears an insanely cool lead bassline filter and sizzle into oblivion, against shockingly compressed yet still-dynamic drum-punches. B-sider 'Drive Me Crazy' is equally a jaw-dropping techstep number, unafraid of indulging wild breakwork and melodic synthery at the same time. Both tracks are as raucous, punchy, unashamed and loud as their titles suggest.

Review: Two fresh names make a big splash in the still-strong UK hardcore scene. Coming to DJ Seduction's Burning Bush Communciations for an unlikely Florence And The Machine remix, we hear a breaks-backed version of 'You Got The Love' by DJ-X-Cess, but with re-recorded vocals that sound more to have been lifted from a passionate soul B-side than directly from the indie pop darling. It works very well, admittedly. Then also comes a remix of Ghost Unit's 'Air Cooled' by DJ X Cess, who adds to the original a wally, impossible-not-to-dance-to piano mix.

Review: Ipswich's Steve Carr remains one of the greatest operatives in the field of d&b, able to flex his studio skills to any number of approaches from crisp, techy rollers to ruffneck amen crushers and plenty of other spaces in between. He's also the latest to sign up with Okbron, the label committed to unearthing forgotten dubplates and exclusives from the archives. In the case of Digital, we're treated to two fresh slabs which show the best of this consistently inspiring artist. 'Brick Wall' is a melancholic affair in the synth department, but there's some serious damage to be done when the 'ardcore stabs come slamming in around the drop. Meanwhile, 'Inside Out' toys with dreamy pads and vocal tones before locking into a widescreen, dubbed out soundscape that ranks among the finest works Digital has ever created.

Review: A welcome and precious addition to the new 'Legends' series by V Recordings, 'Lionheart' is a tune made with friend and equal talent Berty B, that has existed since 1994 and is famous for its opening "ready? get set... music!" sample and vinyl-spinback oneshots. It's a nigh-timeless track that straddles raggatek, jump-up and jungle techno in almost a single breath. Much later came the VIP (variation in production), which added far glossier and more heavenly variations and a harder-edged sheen. Now it gets a reissue. Also here comes the brand new VIP of 'Love 4 You', which is a masterclass in airy, spacious intro-work, which segues into pure drum-driving as per the formula.

Review: A fresh run of a release that first came out in 1996, 'Chopper' hears a collision of worlds between two drum n' bass stalwarts, Ray Keith and Dark Soldier (pro-tip: they're the same person). Dread Recordings, the label founded by Keith in 1994, houses this monster. It features two tracks: 'Chopper' and 'Back To Me' - the former is a classic jungle tune, and has been remixed many times by a plethora of heatbringers such as Shy FX, Bladerunner and Critical Impact. The latter, however, is brand new, and showcases Keith's signature darkness and heaviness with crushing flair.

Review: DJ Plant Texture aka Bari's Donato Basile makes a Return to Disorder with four blistering cuts of jungle, electro, techno and acid. He is a versatile producer who takes no prisoners and considers no sounds off-limits. This one kicks off with the brutalist beats and casuistic synths of 'The Other World' before funky, acid-laced techno bouncer 'Preserve The Rave' takes you to the next level. 'The Man Of The Street' (feat Mike Tansella Jr) is then a deeper, more cosmic cut with thinking synths but still plenty of powerful rhythms and last of all are the dark jungle breaks of 'Hasta La Vista, Baby.' These are highly charged and guaranteed dance floor destroyers from this ever-on-point wizard.

Review: Vinyl Fanatiks are coming on strong with their reissues once again as they hit us hard with the latest re-boost of Phantasy's Liquid Wax imprint. A label with a fantastic legacy and a consistency that's largely down to the fact all releases came out of Jack Smooth's Sound Entity jungle techno laboratory, this particular flashback is especially of note as it's one of the earliest productions from Alex Reece (who had just begun working at the studio as an in-house engineer at the time). Both raw and powerful pieces that capture that hardcore transition perfectly, 'Ruffkut' on the jungle side, 'Dope On Plastic' on the techno side. Heavyweight history.

Others like DJ Kos and his pals Billy Daniel Bunter, Sanxion, Karma Krew and Dubious. All of them delivering premium euphoric goods on this limited coloured vinyl. Following Bunter and Sanxion's hair-raising remix and Kos's timeless original come two more weapons. Review: Roffa than ruff! Netherlands craftsman Mike Redman (AKA Deformer) unites local MCs Bigman Scep, Swift and Dart for this big singalong skank-out. Tailored for festivals, it pays homage to the roots with big party energy. Meanwhile on the remix front we're bombarded with an all-star cast as UK OGs Bizzy B and Ed Rush both get stuck in alongside Mike under his Deformer alias. Bizzy is all about the modern rave twist while Ed Rush gets an old Bad Company style and Deformer goes all-out breakcore. Elsewhere on this double 12" opus we see Mackadena get the breaks on, Rotterdam Terror Corps go full hardcore and Akira teasing us with a little twist of gabber. High grade Dutch business.

Review: Okbron continues to plough into hidden corners of atmospheric d&b and jungle to find forgotten gems and give them a fresh airing. This time around they're turning to the work of Niko Brenscheid, the German producer who first emerged as Real Sportsman back in the mid 90s. He collaborated with Patrick Vollmari aka DJ Rusty Dust on the track 'Real & Rust' back in 1995, and now their synth-laden slice of Good Looking-styled jungle gets a tidy remaster for the modern age. Brenscheid and Vollmari also linked up as P.B.K., and their sultry jazz-licked track '20 Years' takes up the B-side of this high-grade 12".

Review: Okbron have been more than happy to participate in DJ Trax's renewed resurgence following his album for Over/Shadow and a string of essential 12"s. Following last years Forest Dawn release he's back with two lush new tunes which prove he's as inspired as ever in the field of atmospheric d&b. 'As Day Breaks' opens up the record with the kind of strange, misty morning mood which billows out perfectly over the agile breaks, feeling classic and yet fresh all at the same time thanks to Trax's needlepoint drum programming. 'Forward Thinking' follows suit with another set of nuanced pads that move away from the played-out formulas of the genre. The strafing synth bleeps cutting through the mix are the icing on top of this masterclass from one of the best in the game.

Review: Destination Essex: Bill Vega and New Decade's Vivid Dreams project returns after nearly 30 years with the breath-taking 'Horizon'. A sweeping sci-fi odyssey laced with emotion, it's a reminder that deep doesn't ever need to be diluted or limp in anyway. For added measure, Bill Vega's DJ Infinity project kicks in for a big deal of the EP as he remixes 'Horizon' and lays down two golden breakbeat jams on the B: 'Zone 9' is all about those chaotic drums, sculpted and crafted with detail and weight, and 'Eternal' which is much more of a dreamy piano-laced heartstopper. Review: DanJet proclaims itself to be the first Russian drum & bass label, which might be up for debate, but at the very least it would have been one of the first when it first operated in 1997. Spearheaded by DJ Dan, the label drops its fourth vinyl and chooses to, erm, pay tribute to The Prodigy on the A-side via Dan and Dima Pulsar's 'Hyperspeed'. There are more than a few elements from Experience twisted into modern d&b forms on this track, no doubt sure to please older heads and younger generations of ravers alike. Barbitura's 'One In The Jungle' on the B-side is an all-out tear-out driven by sirens, dark side bass and blistering breaks.

Their four-tracker on Fabio's Creative Wax label kicks off with 'Don't Go Away', a cacophony of Amen breaks and celestial chords that tugs you in several directions at once. 'Foliage' then rides a deeper vibe with silky drums and cosmic ambient pads bringing a blissed-out feel. 'Groovin' opens up the flipside with more tough, edgy breaks and plunging bass then 'I Can't Understand' closes out with a lovely bit of subtle vocal euphoria, pitched-up vocals and uplifting drums.
