You (limited gold vinyl 12")
Cat: DDD 07T. Rel: 24 Jul 18
  1. You (5:18)
  2. King Of The Beats (7:06)
Review: Dom returns to his Dubs Dungeon once again and re-opens the Dillinja crypt for two more long-coveted dubplates. "You" is fresh from 94 with subs so thick and misty they'll freeze you to your bones and breaks so sharply edited you now have pierced ears just reading this short review, this was a major missile for the AWOL massive. "King Of The Beats" is a year or two deeper into Dillinja's unmatchable discography with a killer b-boy sample, rocket fuel drums and a waspy bassline that stings from a 10 mile radius. Jungle royalty.

  1. Xertz (5:36)
  2. Dive Alarm (4:47)
  3. Luna (4:40)
  4. Angler Beat (4:36)
Review: Hot on the chem trails of his Dispatch EP "Posse", Cologne's SubMarine returns to Alix Perez's 1985 with his first EP for the label. It leads with "Xertz", a sinewy roller data spitting roller that's been heavily supported by the likes of Monty, Halogenix and Perez himself. "Dive Alarm" is pure cascading panic while "Luna" rumbles with a creepy sense of gothic suspense and pure alien purrs on the bass. Finally "Angler Beat" bigs up all fishermen out there with a bassline that will catch us all hook, line and stinker. Take a deep dive today.

World A Jungle Music (hand-stamped vinyl 10")
Cat: RASTA 002V. Rel: 08 Oct 14
  1. Ice Cream Sound
  2. World A Jungle Music
Review: Launched over the summer, the Rasta Vibez label looks to bridge the gap between drum and bass and classic dub and reggae that has grown somewhat since the heyday of Jungle. If you were swayed by the distinct charms of the debut drop Jungle On Broadway, it's highly likely you will be compelled to check out this second 12". There's no complex science to either "Ice Cream Sound" or "World A Jungle Music" just a well executed take on a formula that has worked perfectly well many times over; delay and fx meet classic dub strains and jungle rhythms uptown

Review: Oof! It's finally here; two east London mic dons link up over a heavy Chimpo beat on Jamakabi's Rhythm Rollers for a name that truly lives up to its name. Doing the rounds in various forms since last year, "Wickedest Ting" touches wax in two perfect version; the body-slamming original and a bashing jungle twist from the Ghosty Men. Wicked.

  1. Kyo & Break - "Who Decides" (5:17)
  2. Kyo & Total Science - "Murder Tonight" (5:37)
  3. Kyo & Mikal - "Where I Stand" (4:53)
  4. Kyo & Onemind - "Play To Lose" (6:21)
Review: One of Break's most consistent and striking vocal collaborators, Kyo gets the Symmetry spotlight with this A-list collabo EP. "Who Decides" sparks up the dance with an electrified high voltage sneering bassline and loose percussion that only Break can cook up. "Murder Tonight" is a lot sexier than its title suggests thanks to Kyo's surging tones and Total Science's expert manipulation of the think break. "Where I Stand" sees Kyo teaming up with Mikal for the most stripped back and steppy affair while DLR and Mako's OneMind unit join her for the final, and darkest, chapter of the EP "Play To Lose" where Kyo hits her gutsiest, rawest soul notes. No decision necessary.

  1. White Flag VIP (4:32)
  2. Arcadia (feat Metrik) (3:09)
Review: Switching a lighter raising ballad with the energy and gusto of a sugar-high kid at Christmas, Delta Heavy's "White Flag VIP" has been anticipated since Andy C started teasing it around his Alexandra Palace show. Already loaded with feels, the new double time drums add even more emotion and euphoria. Flip for an out-and-out electrical fire as they team up with Metrik for a balls-out, peak time slap session. Excruciatingly good.

  2. Sizzla - "I'm Living" (Ed Solo & Stickybuds remix) (5:33)
Review: Ahead of the Jungle Cake's third Welcome To The Jungle collection, Deekline drops two of the album's many heaters; Soulfire soulstress Sara Lugo gets the Jamie Bostron treatment as he retains the warm tones and emotional sentiments of the original while applying a slick rolling breakbeat. Looking for a heavier skanker? Flip for Ed Solo and Stickybuds' bass-flecked twist on the unavoidable Sizzla. Underpinned with a juicy bassline, Sizzla's urging lyrics and the dreamy melodica are both kept in check as we roll deeper into the dance. That's living alright.

Review: Building on a healthy body of collaborative work, neuro A-listers Phace and Mefjus combine their schnitzel collections for their debut collabo EP. A full flavour four pack that still leaves time for a pint, we're treated to some of their raffish and unruly tracks to date; the techno glitches and weird switches of "Wastemen", the jumpy riff flavour of "Malmaison", the electrified funk frazzles of "Decisions" and the pure purring bass and sci-fi drama of "Swerve" all comprise some of their best collaborations to date. Time to get wasted.

  4. Ssiege - "Sogno In BB" (3:46)
  5. Rawmance - "Mondonotte, La Mattina Dopo" (Security re-drums) (3:30)
Review: La Beaute Du Negatif's fourth multi-artist EP arrives with little fanfare or fuss. Instead, the Rome-based label has decided to simply offer-up the EP and let us come to our own conclusions. For what it's worth, ours is that it's well worth checking - especially Monomorph's blissful, acid-flecked IDM opener "Rystal", which previously appeared on a hard-to-find CD way back in 1996. There are plenty of highlights elsewhere across the EP, though. Head first for the sparse, spacey cheeriness of Brainwaltzera's "Phos Harbinger", before getting your ears around the ambient jungle-techno brilliance of "Opener" by The Jaffa Kid. This is followed on side B by the shuffling, sun-kissed downtempo grooves of SSIEGE's "Sogno In BB" and a drowsy, mind-altering chunk of late 90s Warp Records style electronica by Rawmance.

Review: Sublime retro future breaks from Keysound affiliate Etch. As suggested in the title, none of these breaks have real titles; it's just all about the crisp drum work, vast roominess and old school dynamics from the brushed drum swing of the first slice and the rubber ball bass of the second, right the way through the ghostly vocal tones and MC commands on the fourth slice, this is the sound of a man who knows his foundations inside out. Sneaker Social Club don't release anywhere near as much as they should.... But when they do you should always pay attention.

Review: Long-serving label hopper Soul Intent (real name Alex Judd) returns to Dutch imprint Tempo for the 2nd time in two years. The experienced producer offers up a blend of bass-weight dancefloor pressure and soul-fired musical intent. There's something particularly special about opener "U Got Me", a Loleatta Holloway-sampling beast built around jazzy, off-kilter D&B drums, pulsating sub bass and crystalline musical touches, though sun-kissed roller "Loved Up" - a slightly punchier but no less bass-heavy affair - is almost as good. Also worth a listen is "No Hype", whose combination of punishing, hot-stepping drums and gargantuan sub-bass is particularly potent.

Review: Following the likes of Decka, Edeka and Tans A.M, Brooklyn's Significant Other steps up to the Berlin fusion fray with his own take on techno. Sitting somewhere between dub, electro, ambient, techno and D&B, each cut is an abyssal experience powered by spacious beats and thick, moody otherworldly atmospheres. "Delphic" the banger of the set with 150 halftime kicks giving a stark two-step D&B sensation, "Break The Web" takes 20,000 leagues under the sea and squeezes the air out of us while "Triptan" brings us back up to air with ambient mysticism. Significant.

Review: Alive, kicking and whipping up the ghosts of rave, Eveson's Dead Man's Chest project continues to tap deep into the roots with modern day production muscle and dynamics. "Tears" is one for the rush crew: a one-way ticket to 1991, complete with authentic MC samples and breath-taking R&B vocal harmonies. "Rinsa" is more your 3am darkside joint. The type brock out Gachet or Doc Scott would have dropped back in the foundation era. Pranged, barbed and mean - your floor won't know what hit it.

Review: Culture Shock releases are notoriously sparse... With upwards of a year passing between dispatches (and epic five-year hype times between ID clips of Ram boss Andy C playing them and them actually being finished and released) fans have learned to make hay while the sun shines. Like now... Originally released digitally in December, these four tracks are finally available on vinyl and every one of them is a thriller: from the Detroitian textures of the synths on "Tangents" to the all-out bull charge of "Steam Machine" and the vocal beauty of "No More", Shocky's sun is shining brightly right now. Time to make hay!

Cat: PM 039. Rel: 02 Jul 19
  1. Too Dissimilar (8:44)
  2. Idiosyncrasies (9:08)
Review: 20 years old and still sounding more future than most jungle records: Paradox dusts off his only release on the late, great, criminally over-looked Partisan imprint. "Too Dissimilar" rides on an absolute pearl of break (even by Paradox's unique standards) that charges out for over eight minutes, digging you deeper and deeper into its dark, alien universe. "Idiosyncrasies" is even further out in the singular solar system. Opening with the clean break (which Paradox has always encouraged sample creativity with) it then drops us into a gravity-free vacuum as we float and sway to classic icy pads before the break is sped up and twisted right before our very eyes. Jazzy, floaty but unrelenting; it's a perfect example of Dev Pandya's truly unique voice in the game.

Review: Transmute continue their climactic return to form with this hair-raising V/A three-tracker. Hot on the heels of DJ Trax' EP earlier this year, once again it's a powerful document that nods sagely in all jungle directions. Greanleaf takes us back to a Moving Shadow mindset with lush airy breaks and jazzy touches while Drum Cypha unleashes his inner beast with a white knuckle hardcore homage. Finally Contact Lost gets dreamy with a little techno sensibility in the hypnotic chords. The story ain't over yet...

Review: Continually on-point, Spirit follows his recent Function 12" with two more outstanding moments in musical futurism. "Think" surfaces from the dubplate ocean once and for all with its overwhelming dub tidal waves and soul-shuddering pads while "Bounty Killer" just goes straight for the jugular with a vicious riff that stinks of The End around '99. Classic Spirit.
