This is a suite of moody rollers in the cinematic sense of the term, all brooding melodic arrangement and forlorn vocals atop crisply programmed beats. Hiraeth's epic remix of 'Sound Of Silence' originally arrived on prior dici-only EP Android Waltz, but it was more than deserving of a chance to step out on wax, while Faction gets busy weaving deft tech step touches around 'Life Indoors'. It's a powerful, captivating listen from a talent firmly on an upward trajectory.

Review: Originally released in 1994 and now reissued in 2024, confirming the resurgence of interest in the classic jungle sound, 'Watch Out' is a hard-hitting jungle track with a relentless 'Amen' break, while 'Media' offers a more complex and atmospheric soundscape with a deep, broken bassline.. 'Watch Out' immediately grabs attention with its pounding bassline and heavy drums, the tribal percussion adding an exotic flavor, while the heavy Amen break provides the relentless drive that characterises jungle at its best. The track is relentless and hypnotic, perfectly capturing the energy of the early scene. 'Media,' in contrast, is a more experimental tune. The jungle breakbeats are present, but they are more subdued, providing a backdrop for the track's deep bass notes. Together, 'Watch Out' and 'Media' offer a snapshot of the golden era of jungle music. They are essential listening for anyone interested in the genre's roots and its continuing evolution.

The pair channel glossy, post-internet trap, early 00s Coki-esque dubstep skwelch and all the best parts of contemporary d&b. 'VSN 122' comes with all the rushy euphoria of the best pop-adjacent, accessible dance music records, but maintains its edge with shards of unorthodox sound design and texture- take the wild bowed cymbal-sounding wubs in 'Novaform' or the unhinged FM action and distant vocal hollering on 'Luminae' for instance. Over the course of a mere six tracks, Machinedrum & Holly weave a complex tapestry of club affect, from the languid spa-hop of 'Blueshift' to the overtly poppy rush of 'Hide Sun'. Forward!

Review: One of many aliases for Dave Ruffkut Hook, Heavyweight was an anonymous alias saved solely for the more atmospheric and experimental side of jungle that was beginning to flourish in 1994. During the year he dropped three volumes comprising six unnamed tracks. And they all still bang impeccably hard to this day. Take these two finale Heavyweight hurters. The A-side 'Heavyweight 5' flexes a sensual vocal allure and dreamy pads while the B-side 'Heavyweight 6' is all about those drums and those otherworldly cosmic flurries. Heavy is an understatement.

Review: Vemodalen means 'The fear that everything has already been done.' If that's not an enticing enough invitation to dBridge's album then we don't know what is. The music as relatable, too. Powerful, slow, sexy and vulnerable, it paints from a synthetic palette anyone over 30 has grown up with and will know intuitively from music and movies. Ranging from poppy motifs that are reminiscent perhaps of Roxy Music or Visage to more introverted electronica that nods at the Rephlex sound and perhaps Si Begg, all backed up by his history as Heartdrive and the Autonomic sound, this is dBridge looking back to look forward. Stunning.

Review: Overlook continues to bolster UVB-76's position as one of the front-runners in junglist innovation with this latest single. There's many sides to the Bournemouth producer's sound, as 'Mima's Room' guides us through deft breakbeat interplay, hazy jazz samples and fathoms deep atmospherics and pads which somehow sidestep the usual Good Looking reference points to head somewhere else. It's mellow and meditative, but speaking it's own truth thanks to Overlook's precise and potent production style. By way of contrast, 'After Hours' is a rasping D&B variation shrouded in nihilistic tones and powered by hard edged drums. It's a split personality of a record, and that makes it all the more exciting.

Review: UKJ keeps the flame of old-school breaks and jungle afire with its latest four-track V/A 12", with contributions from label co-boss Junglord, Supa Ape, Sully, OmniRhythm and Simply Dread all in tow for the inflammatory sacrifice. Unlike your usual jungle, these four cuts verge on the insane, thanks to this label's commemorative grounding in the earliest days of jungle in its hardcore breaks and graff-adjacent days. We wager that back then, there was more room for experimentation before the "sound" got standardised and fetishised. Here's a cogent recollection of that time - a time of vocal one-shots, dramatic classical music samples and rave stabs, sure - but above all, just a generally wilder and more rapacious indulging of the promise of what was once called breakscience; Junglord's 'Ready For Retaliation' and Dread's 'Hard To Tell' tend towards UK hardcore on this front, ultrafast breaks-drilling and buzzsawing away, with glee.

Review: The second release from Alex Egan's Utter sub label Quoth finds a link-up between Pearl River Sound and The Horn - two outlier operators with plenty to say when their machines collide. Pearl River Sound has been scattering outstanding releases on Further, Seagrave and Further Electronix amongst others, while The Horn comes from serious Devon techno heritage having cut his teeth on Evolution back in t'day. This is all about upfront material though, with a tendency towards microtonal braindance that veers from the self-explanatory collaboration 'Modular Grime' to solo forays into off-kilter, acidic electro funk. Nowhere near as derivative as a lot of current braindance, this is real freaked-out electronics for those with discerning taste.

Following last year's standout statement of intent, Confront The Serpent, Reeko returns with another formidable four-tracker loaded with psychedelic energy and heavyweight presence which offers a unique slant on this fertile zone of experimentation in the modern club landscape.

On the A-side, Tommy de Roos flies solo for 'Titan (Back On The Case)', a full-tilt raggacore explosion to set the dance alight in all the right ways. On the flip, we get a true insight into the hardcore culture from this part of the world as sealand's finest rapper KD and local scratch legend DJ Vindictiv jump on for a 'Dead City Version' of the track, marking the first time the old friends of FFF's have appeared on the same record as him.

Review: Myor Massiv dial up two of the heaviest operators in contemporary jungle for a sure shot split 12" which will charge up the dance whichever side the needle drops on. 'Lucky Go Happy' is a chirpy workout from Reaper, getting lyrical with the snare rushes, pinging some sprightly chords around the mix and juggling some diva vocal licks without losing that sharp edge that always marks out his tunes. Coco Bryce brings a more widescreen, techno-styled palette to 'Down The Way' on the flip, but there's still plenty of space for swerves into giddy old-skool sampling deployed with the flair which has made him one of the brightest talents in the field. Jungle by numbers this ain't.

Review: Oh gosh! Since Ulterior Motive disbanded, Settle Down has gone from ravey strength to ravey strength. Lowering the tempo just a smidgeon, he's found himself painting from a vibrant palette that isn't governed by the tight rules of drum & bass, aligning himself more with the Biceps and Special Requests of the world and the sounds really shine as a result. Both of these have been on dub for some time, 'The Special' nods sweetly at Sade before burying its head in the biggest bass scoop it can find while the brilliantly titled 'Twos On A Pack Of 10' dives into dreamier breakbeat pastures - before breaking into a serious venomous bassline. Get down!

Review: Wots My Code has been back on our shelves recently with some of his most seminal EPs getting reissued. His self-titled effort from 1992 came back in October, as did his All Seasons EP also on Kiteforce, both of which sounded as good as they did back when first crafted. Now his The New Dubplates EP drops on Just Another Label with 'Dubplate' kicking off as a remix by Bay B Kane that takes no prisoners. A Sikka remix then tweaks the energy level and on the flip is 'Pass Me A Dubplate (92-3)' a short but sweet closer.

Review: Strap yourselves in for the return of Missile Vintage with a fifth transmission and this one is a track from the boss himself. Missile Records founder Tim Taylor crafted this banger back in 1992 and released it on the legendary FFRR imprint. It soon made its mark on the rave scene of the time and has remained influential to generations of DJs, dancers and producers ever since. Review: On Tell Me, Skeptical capitalises on the freedom afforded by his own Rubi label by dialling back his established d&b sound and presenting a half-time trip into downtempo territory. That shouldn't be mistaken as a softening of his production chops, because there's still massive amounts of weight as he warps snarling bass around stark drums on 'Tapestry'. 'Atomic' goes further into a minimal, dubbed out sound with carefully executed low end growl which carries the torch from DMZ's earliest soundsystem meditations.

This is a full-throttle journey hurtling towards uncontrollable euphoria with electrifying vibrations that magnetically pull us into a one-way ticket to ecstasy. The track's old-school rave sound, a hallmark of Dread's productions, immerses us ambiances typical of the 90s, with recurring piano chords that give way to a heavy and strict drum & bass drop. The single features a special remix by Fanu (Janne Hatula), known for his dynamic and evolving rhythms. Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, Fanu takes a departure from his usual thick chord-driven pieces, opting for a more minimal yet delightfully busy and slightly wonky approach. Drawing inspiration from Luke Vibert, this remix adds a playful and unique twist to the track.

Review: Prolific under a variety of different aliases between them, Italian artists Big Hands and Banishsh continue to push the limits on the latter's new SM000 imprint. Sitting right on the edge of a variety of genre hinterlands, there are notes of jungle, dub, techno and IDM running throughout. Big Hands' 'SWGGN' vibes with the most upbeat feeling and flow while Banishsh's 'OP' version hits with much more of a dancehall bounce and sense of bass tension and the '55' deconstructs and dubs things out even more.
