A Vision Of Panorama - "From The South" (5:13)
Eternal Love - "Sunset Shampoo" (5:21)
Pool Boy - "Icy Dub" (3:31)
Wolfey - "Soma" (4:10)
Laseech - "Forbidden Estuary" (6:12)
Larry Quest - "Room 4 More" (5:29)
Jay Sound - "Reflections Of Love" (feat Josefine) (6:33)
Review: Fusion Sequence is a new offshoot from the Mellophonia label that kicks off with a heavyweight release both literally - its 180g vinyl - and metaphorically. It features seven different artists offering up one track each on what is a widescreen exploration of fresh deep house. They are A Vision of Panorama, Eternal Love, Pool Boy, Wolfey, Laseech, Larry Quest and Jay Sound and between them everything from cuddly depths to more moody late-night deepness is covered on an EP that brings plenty of new perspectives. A fine inaugural 12", then.

I (5:46)
II (6:07)
III (5:19)
IV (4:36)
Review: Chestnut People finds NAFF champ Priori teaming up with Ludwig A.F. for some deep-diving trips somewhere between ambient, trance, deep house and techno. It's a sweetly melodic space where immersive beatdowns can sit comfortably alongside blissfully beatless meditations, leading in with the dreamy breakbeat roll of 'I' and the snappy drum blasts of 'II'. It's the B-side where the project's sound really deepens, finding new scope for aqueous sound design and fragmented electronica on 'III' before the pure, new age leaning melt-out of 'IV'. It's a sophisticated record with a sound that should draw in a huge spectrum of machine dreamers.

Review: Massimiliano Pagliara returns to Permanent Vacation with his fourth studio album 'See You In Paradise'. The Italian-German artist has his sights set on the sublime, enlisting the help of Snax, Fort Romeau, Init, Curses, Coloray and Vanessa to produce a 10-track album of smoked-out trip hop, house, nu-disco and downtempo. Unsettlingly unwilling to settle on any particular genre, the multifaceted nature of the project reflects Pagliara's many faces, not least as a DJ, producer and ballet dancer. For indeed, paradise isn't a world where we're boxed into one role or genre for the rest of our lives, but rather get to occupy as many as we see fit.

Review: Misha Panfilov is an Estonian composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer, based in Funchal, Portugal and Atlantico is a stunning showcase of his work on the Miraaz label. He mixes up psych, prog rock, jazz horns and international rhythms right from the opening moments of the dramatic 'Verticle.' Things take a more wistful folk bent on the jaunt that is 'Alegria Em Movimento' with more expansive jazz stylings taking over on 'Caleidoscopio'. This one comes on heavyweight vinyl and with an insert, plus great artwork, so is a real treasure.

Review: Gerd Jansen's faultless Running Back is back with another of its hard-to-define but essential albums, Keep Looking Where The Light Comes From, this time from Panoram. It is a record that blurs the line between chaos and beauty, with fuzzy synths and improvised rhythms offering up some intriguing sound designs and unusual textures. There is a psychedelic feel to many of those, but so too a dream-like quality where barely-there melodies and half-remembered vocals drift in and out of earshot. Both maximal and minimal compositions feature with nods to ASMR pleasures and a mix of synthetic and acoustic sounds.

Review: Theo Parrish is a world-renowned name in the global Detroit house and techno game, and he's thrown a fascinating curveball as the latest entrant for the acclaimed DJ-Kicks series. Mr. Parrish has gone above and beyond the duties of most invitees - rather than just licensing tracks from his favourite artists and big-name-friends, he's asked his own community from Detroit to each produce their own mixable tracks, exclusively for the comp. What's more, these are hardly established names - they're organic connections to Parrish, not occupying the top layer of attention and recognition. Bits from H-Fusion, Jon Dixon, Donald Lee Roland II, Ian Fink and Raybone Jones all dominate this anarchic new deconstruction of the otherwise exclusivist mix series.

Review: Passport is the inter-Atlantic duo of George Btp Dan Piu and Roger K. Versey and their all-new album is a truly global voyage of musical adventure. Wonderful Elixir is all about seeking the deeper grooves in dance music from a range of different genres. It's a seamless fusion of jazz and acid, deep house and street beat with special appearances from DJ Nata, Jesus Gonsev, and Grant. The likes of 'Prelude Turismo 97' is a Balearic beauty, 'Oceans of Emotional Wealth' is a shimmying groove with sensuous vocals and lush keys and 'Dream Delivery' is more prickly for those late-night dances.

Review: A double album of sumptuous, expansive downbeat luxury written by Pete Woosh - one half of the celebrated duo Digs & Woosh and Nottingham's DIY collective - with Andy Riley (Toka Project, Inland Knights) during the illness which would eventually claim Pete's life. Given the background of its creation, it's a blissfully peaceful and optimistic sounding collection.

The chilled disco/house hypnotism of 'Keep Yr Shape' and 'For Your Love', all slinky, hazy vocals and headnodding back room hedonism, are obvious highlights, but more reflective moments like 'Piano Fades' make this into a varied and enduring 'proper album' listen rather a mere collection of tracks.

All profits will go to the Spirit Wrestlers foundation, founded in honour of Pete's memory and devoted to good causes in his hometown of Nottingham.

Review: The Very Polish Cut Outs mostly deals in inspired re-edits and reworks of obscure old musical gems from Poland. This time out Pejzaz aka Bartosz Kruczynski makes his mark once more with a brilliant new collage album that comes in two parts. This first one will be followed by the second later in November and is a deep dive into the world of 90s and early noughties Eastern European CD releases. It's made from millions of samples and features pop rock licks, sunny chords, dreamy folk sounds, astral melodies and lots of rich textures that make it a superb new take on the Baltic Beat.

Review: Like its recent predecessor, List I, this all-instrumental affair is a collage style affair that sees its creator, Bartosz Krucyznski AKA Pejzaz, craft an immersive and atmospheric listening journey out a mixture of beats, electronics, and literally hundreds of samples from 1990s and early 2000s Eastern European CD releases. The Very Polish Cut Outs label describes it as 'an apt soundtrack for winter in Eastern Europe', and it's hard to disagree. Full of warming loops, dreamy pads and chords, gentle melodies and even more gentle hip-hop beats (albeit with sporadic bursts of percussive energy), it delivers a suitably Balearic, saucer-eyed voyage through instrumental trip-hop and dub-flecked downtempo flavours.

Review: Don't let the playful name Penguin Cafe fool you; this modern classical / electronic fusion ensemble are master musicians, as is evidenced enough by this latest EP from the troupe, Rain Before Seven. Their fifth studio album to date, the group led by Arthur Jeffes come through once more for a heartstring-tugging journey into a seemingly folkloric homeland, allegedly imspired by an old weather proverb that hints at a happy ending, despite the odds. These instrumental pieces are hopeful and as rejuvenative as morning dew on grass. Entirely original, they also guest musicians such as Alessandro 'Asso' Stefana on lap steel and soundscapes.

Piotr Rajski is also known as Pepe and Escapism is his second album. As with the first, it's a hard to easily define and categorise album with multiple genres and in between sounds all poking through the beats. It was written during the peak months of pandemic and writing much became a form of escape for the artist. The record has a more vibrant, colour and vivid feel than the first, and has a dreamy vibe that sure is good at taking your mind away from the here and now with broken beat, hip hop, jazz, funk and more informing its grooves.

Review: "Tide Life is a fossicked assortment of personal memories surrounding the beach, the ocean and the touristical fantasy world that surround it. A childhood visit to Hamilton island...... watching Home and Away in the 90s.......or shopping in Lakes Entrance..... floating adrift in the flotsam of daily life". Or so says The Person of this startlingly beautiful 2018 release.

There's certainly a lot of audible influences, although it is possible to put a fine point on it - strangely tropical sounding, 1980s movie accidentals and montages, cartridge-era RPG video game soundtracks, and electronic soul, sans lyrics, are all pretty accurate labels. Owing as much to the likes of D?M-FunK as one-man keyboard shows in half-forgotten barrooms and deleted scenes from The Goonies, it's a ride that's brimming with imagination and inspiration for your own waking dreams.

He has long championed the next generation as much as he has carefully dug out delights from his vast vaults of jazz, world, soul and Latin music, both on his various radio shows but also his own label Brownswood. The Future Bubbler series is where he does that best and now it hits a seventh volume with eight more tracks from fresh creative talents who explore broken beat, nu jazz and plenty of in between styles in all in their own unique ways.

Guillaume Lespinasse and Louis De La Gorce are now joined by a third member, in addition to collaborations with the likes of AJJ, Bigoudi, and Robert Lapassenkoff on an album that is a melting pot of synth-pop, digit dub, psych-rock and new age. From the '80s influenced electronic rock of 'Ca Sulfite' (Censuree), the cosmic downtempo journey of 'Mazirat Sous Pschitto' to the slo-mo psych-out of 'Viens Jouer' and the neon-lit Balearic beat of 'Tonton Snif-Snif a Bogota' - prepare for quite the journey!

Review: Glaswegian outfit Pleasure Pool - a collaboration between producer/synth player Finn O'Hare, vocalist Andrew Robertson and a rotating cast of guest musicians from the local scene - delight in creating hard-to-pigeonhole music that combines club-friendly elements with live performance, the addictive accessibility of pop and nods to a wide variety of sonic styles. 'Love Without Illusion', their debut album, is an exemplary exploration of this approach, offering aural attractiveness and a string of highlights. Our picks of a very strong bunch include the slipped breakbeats, stirring synth-strings, New Jersey organ stabs and analogue bass of 'Modern Nature', the wayward electro-dub eccentricity of 'Sell Your Stuff', the Balearic synth-pop colour of opener 'Open Hours' and the humid, immersive, sunrise-ready deep psychedelia of 'Love Without Illusion'.

Review: The collection titled 'exQuisxx' is a creation of POiSON GiRL FRiEND's own music, and is comprised of pieces from three different works: 'Shyness,' 'Mr. Polyglot Remix,' and 'Love Me,' all released by Nippon Columbia between 1993 and 1994. The title 'exQuisxx'is a coined term that merges the French word "exquis", signifying something delightful and lovely, with 'xx' denoting a kiss. That in mind, we hear a reissued incarnation of the artist's best works here, which have resurfaced after a newfound popularity sparked by her recent acknowledgement by British singer-songwriter Arlo Parks. Ambient trip-hop; French pop; wavering glitch and electro experiments. Not one to be missed at all.

Review: Mute Records expand their indie major empire with the announcement of yet another album by Stefan Betke aka. Pole, 'Tempus'. The title of the album refers to the Latin word for time, which was later co-opted into the German language to refer to grammatical tense - thus, Pole's seven-suite album is literally a meditation on linguistic time. In comparison to his earlier albums, Pole's sound is unusually urgent on 'Tempus' - implicitly urging us to reconsider our warped notion of time through effects like dub delay - and incorporates more motifs from jazz than ever before.

Review: Some 11 years after it first surfaced, Poolside's debut album returns to stores. Given that original vinyl copies (which like this edition appeared on translucent blue and yellow wax) are hard to find, this is undoubtedly a good thing. Pacific Standard Time is an exploration of what the California-based duo called 'daytime disco', a style of their own creation that delivers a laidback, sun-soaked blend of Balearic, soft rock, blue-eyed soul, yacht-rock, slow-motion synth-pop, languid jazz-funk, nu-disco and acid-flecked early evening psychedelia. You'll find some find songs amongst the 'Holy Ghost go Balearic' instrumentals, not least 'Why You Wanna' and confirmed sing-along 'Do You Believe'.

Review: California-based Balearic disco duo Poolside first made a splash in 2010 with thrilling debut single 'Do You Believe?'. Two years later and they came on just as strong with their debut album - a typically West Coast-influenced fusion of lazy guitars, baggy grooves, subtle disco influences and shimmering dream pop compositions. Now marking its 10th anniversary it gets a special reissue. At times, they sound like Holy Ghost after a sack full of potent marijuana, at others like Windsurf or Hatchback making shuffling E-pop. It's an attractive sound, all told, touching on smacked-out slow jams, lazy disco and MDMA-laden indie-pop.

Review: This is an indie exclusive yellow vinyl version of Jeffrey Paradise aka Poolside's second studio album on Ninja Tune. The Los Angeles-based producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is a master of those hazy downtempo sounds we call crave when the sun comes out. As such Blame It All On Love is a gorgeous accompaniment to warm days, with a retro-feel, lo-fi aesthetic and lush daytime disco vibes. The album is a collab with Minnesotan indie dream pop act Vansire and showcases classic pop songwriting structure, catchy hooks and irresistible grooves of the sort that Poolside has become well known for. Fans have already been wooed by the dreamy soundscapes of lead single 'Float Away' which has Vansire's Josh Augustin providing lush vocals. Essential stuff.
