D8 With The Rain (4:07)
Sweet Honey (4:03)
Review: It's time to don your leathers and strap in for another ride on go-slow master Eddie C's Read Motorbike. This time out the Canadian deep disco specialist kicks off his latest 7" with 'D8 With The Rain.' As always it is a super smooth groove that is smartly embellished with dusty old samples that tug at the heart. 'Sweet Honey' is a sunny one with plenty of joyous little chords and a carefree groove that flaps and slaps away down low. Easy to love, hard to pull-off grooves once again from the evergreen Eddie C.

Jibaro (reissue)

Cat: CBSAB 6502286RED. Rel: 17 Feb 23
Jibaro (long version) (7:34)
Jibaro (short version) (3:27)
Review: Elkin & Nelson's 1979 track 'Jibaro' harks back to the true essence of Balearic music, before the style became a self-aware genre of its own and instead referred to a certain attitude. When the DJs of Ibiza were feeding off their island's unique party energy and going deep to find the heaviest grooves to send people skywards, the 1986 promo reissue of 'Jibaro' became a highly-prized nugget of psych-rock-freak-beat brilliance. Now this gem is being reissued in a faithful reproduction which nods to the cult status of the 1986 promo release, pressed up on red vinyl and sounding as powerful and transportive as it did back then.

No Strings Attached (8:09)
Ella's Fonk (6:03)
Things Fall Apart (6:55)
No Strings Attached (Alma Negra remix) (5:52)
Review: Ella Guru is a project from the south of Stockholm that features guitarist Tommy Galento (from associations such as OK Star Orchestra and Galento Sound Service) and well known groove machine Daniel Strand from Bike Thieves. Together they bring a lovely Scandi-cosmic twist to deep house grooves having first met back in 2021 at a jam amongst friends. They mix up some Balearic guitar sounds, break waves, fat basslines and rich layers of percussion with classic hose knowledge to make something that straddles many different worlds at once, from the beach bar to the basement club and back again.

Money Talks (Sean P Special mix) (7:22)
Are You Gonna Be (5:14)
Money Talks (Sean P Special mix - instrumental) (5:58)
Are You Gonna Be (instrumental) (4:27)
Review: 'Money Talks' by En to End is a street and soul disco classic from the end of the 80s. It's a real favourite here at Juno HQ and so whenever it reappears we're glad to see it. Right now Backatcha Records has got two versions available with a yellow label edition and this straight black label edition with slightly different versions. The tunes stand up, however, they are presented - two delightful slices of dance floor action with oodles of romantic vibes. 'Money Talks' (Sean P Special mix) is doused in vocal harmonies and glowing keys and on the back is the deeper, more sentimental 'Are You Gonna Be' with instrumentals of both on the flip side.

Whale Healer (4:56)
Whale Healer (Marshall Watson remix) (7:34)
Whale Healer (Marshall Watson Beatless reprise) (2:23)
Review: These days, NuNorthern Soul's vinyl output is a bit more selective than it once was, allowing boss man Phil Cooper to release what he thinks are the choicest cuts and EPs. The label's latest, from sometime Soul Clap Records contributor Zeynep Erbay, is another White Isle friendly Balearic treat. For proof, check the gently lolloping grooves, simmering synth strings, enveloping chords and twinkling pianos of 'Heart of a Healer', which Danilo Braca then smartly turns into an acid-flecked Balearic nu-disco chugger. B-side opener 'Whale Healer' features more gorgeous piano meditations over a warming bassline and a more skittish and minimalistic beat. NNS label regular Marshall Watson reworks, first delivering a dubby balearic disco take before unfurling an impeccable ambient 'Reprise' version based around the Turkish producer's luscious piano parts.

Sixth Bridge (4:22)
Review: The faultless Razor-N-Tape label has long been one to keep an eye on for fans of all forms of house, disco and plenty in between. This new one from Balearic man Max Essa with slow-motion maestro Eddie C is perfectly timed to arrive as days are getting longer and the sun is out more. It features four lush tunes that roll deep with languid chords, deft little funky guitar riffs and laidback vibes that douse you in all the feels. 'We Live In The Hills' is the standout for us with its fleshy synth work and a sprinkling of tropical percussion.

Nothing Left To Lose Remixes (hand-stamped 12")

Nothing Left To Lose (extended club mix) (6:35)
Nothing Left To Lose (Four Tet instrumental) (4:33)
Nothing Left To Lose (extended club dub) (6:35)
Review: Legendary UK indie hopefuls turned leftfield dance-pop institution Everything But the Girl aka Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn have got their first album in over 20 years dropping around about now. Before that though they have commissioned some superb remixes of the lead single. One is from Four Tet, whom they say they have always loved for the "meditative but propulsive thing in his music. The restraint mixed with momentum." He pulls off that trick again here with a fine remix, and he also supplies an instrumental, then comes extended club and dub mixes of the original from Ben Watt and Bruno Ellingham.

Honeymoon (Definitive mix) (9:30)
Calling The Quarters (Beauty Below mix) (7:20)
Outlandis (Deep Anatolian mix) (5:29)
Chalice (Secret Acid mix) (9:48)
Review: Robbert Heynen aka Exquisite Corpse served up one of last year's finest EPs with his Integration 12". Now though he has opened up his superb archives and invited the one and only Greek maestro Anatolian Weapons to set to work reworking it for this fresh new four-track EP on Transmigration. It's a deep and dubby affair to start with on 'Honeymoon' (Definitive mix) while 'Calling The Quarters' (Beauty Below mix) is awash with trippy electronic lines and shimmering pads. 'Outlandis' (Deep Anatolian mix) is a heavy, percolating bit of elongated electronic dub with 'Chalice' (Secret Acid mix) closing down the EP with another slow and captivating rhythm made from jumbled parts and tribal drums.

Review: Belgian synthesist David Edren has a sterling reputation as part of the rapidly re-blossoming (if that's a word) New Age music scene. Once the preserve of hippies-cum-proto-hipsters who preferred must to musk and were well ahead of their time in terms of things like seaweed-based chocolate alternatives and not being bastards to the planet, in the 21st Century their values, and at least some of their favourite sounds, are finally becoming mainstream.
Over 12 tracks, Relativiteit Van De Omgeving reveals itself to be an incredibly visual experience, both in terms of creation and consumption. Apparently, Edren was picturing widescreen imagery of the tracks themselves, from meteor showers to the miniature jungle of an urban greenhouse. This is reflected in the tones themselves, which move from earthy and woody ('Uurwerk') to cosmic ('Schaatsenrijder'), and back again.

Review: Everything But The Girl have transposed themselves from fragile indie pioneers to cross-fertilising their unique songwriting with drum & bass and house in the 90s, with the likes of 'Walking Wounded' becoming unexpected dancefloor anthems. True experimenters, the duo of Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt now continue to tap into today's zeitgeist - making their comeback in 2023, and arriving without prior announcement, this time they turned their tender production choices to styles such as future house and UK garage. Echoes of Bicep and Overmono teem on this record, as heartfelt retellings of personal strife and brushes with death make up its lyrical subjects.
