Review: Images And Anthems - Book I is an album by Lars Bartkuhn from back in 2008. The artist who is also known for his work in Passion Dance Orchestra and as Laurentius is a master of super cool jazz and laid-back lounge electronics that have hints of 80s nostalgia without being too slavish. Originally this one came only on CD and digitally and now it makes its first foray onto vinyl thanks to First on Vinyl out of Japan. Tracks like the lush 'Pulse' are gloriously airy and spring-like montages while there is a little woozy romance to 'Before It Enters My Mind'.

Now he lands on Blundar with a brand new album on numbered and heavyweight translucent green vinyl that offers up 12 tracks of ambient, dub and downtempo experiments which are at times intriguing and cosmic and others laid back and beautifully lazy. Each one is deftly detailed with myriad synth sounds, and atmospheric motifs and they all add up to a perfectly deep, dreamy and immersive listen.

Review: When it comes to a reissue such as this it can't be understated just how arresting the work of Boards of Canada can be in the right situation. This EP, that came to light in between Music Has The Right To Children and Geogaddi, represents the enigmatic duo at their most powerful, channeling their energy into four long-form tracks that draw on all of their combined strengths. "Kid For Today" is haunting and dark but utterly heartbreaking, whilst "Amo Bishop Roden" heads into more mysterious territory. "In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country" is eerie in its titular invitation to join a cult, and "Zoetrope" tips its hat to Terry Riley et al in its looping phrases, but really there's no describing the magnificence of these gems, pleasingly reissued on vinyl to beat the Discogs chancers.

Review: Chase Smith aka the W.T. Records and Apartment associate and documentary filmmaker Christa Majoras are back as brainwave research center with their second full length, Mosaic. Once again the sonically inquisitive pair mix up analogue synths with electro-acoustic experiments, epic and adventurous soundscapes and plenty of raw texture, hooky pop melodies and innocent rhythms. Along the way the duo take influence from their heroes including Ennio Morricone, John Carpenter and Kraftwerk on a record that was laid down in the back of Smith's synthesizer repair shop. It's an absorbing listen once more from this increasingly vital pair.

Review: One spire of the trident that is Tri-Force, Mansur Brown is a guitarist and producer whose presence is felt across the modern jazz spectrum. NAQI Mixtape follows up an impressive EP released earlier this year. With tracks like 'No Way' and 'Rise' occupying the space between Latin guitar and dancehall, while bringing an extra dreamy element (like a divine blessing from Khruangbin), it's clear that Brown is more than deserving of his indifferent looks and cool demeanour. Review: Chestnut People finds NAFF champ Priori teaming up with Ludwig A.F. for some deep-diving trips somewhere between ambient, trance, deep house and techno. It's a sweetly melodic space where immersive beatdowns can sit comfortably alongside blissfully beatless meditations, leading in with the dreamy breakbeat roll of 'I' and the snappy drum blasts of 'II'. It's the B-side where the project's sound really deepens, finding new scope for aqueous sound design and fragmented electronica on 'III' before the pure, new age leaning melt-out of 'IV'. It's a sophisticated record with a sound that should draw in a huge spectrum of machine dreamers.

It's a perfectly horizontal collection of ambient, soft rock and synth sounds for lazy Sunday afternoons that is set to become a crate digger's standard. Fun fact, Tanaka once sued Nicki Minaj for copyright infringement on her hit "Starships".

The Posh Isolation crew, of course, have always traded in heartbreak: the album is a tribute to the artist and label owner's late brother, who died at birth, also making up a companion piece to the previous album. In a whirl of steady, gut-punching feels-oozes, Amor is backed by his label coevals Perko, Vanessa Amara, NikkiH2OP, Alto Aria and Jeuru, all of whom help him lay down an incredible sense of pacing, space and depth.

Review: DDWY appeared on Public Possession label earlier in the year when they put out their Chill Pill compilation and their contribution was the perfectly balearic dance gem 'Orchard'. Now the pair is back with a limited edition album, Sprig Songs. It lays out their distinctive take on dance music which is dubbed out and trippy, often slow paced, doused in proggy melodies and all flavoured with unique Nangis chants. It is an album on Sacred Bones awash with eerie synth strings that are offset by De Olivera's German vocals. Drums echo the sounds of the early Cocteau Twins and the shimmering synths take you higher. It is a low key work with plenty of lo-fi aesthetics but one that makes a grand emotional impact. 'Hanging Gardens' is a real favourite with its moody backdrop of wooly synths.

Review: The Slow life label branches out into ambient sounds away from their traditional deeper house grooves. It takes the form of an album by France's Deep Nalstrom who has established himself in Bristol with his tripped out and ethereal soundscapes. More of that downtempo magic defines this long player across seven tracks of otherworldly music. It's laden with percussion, steel drums, shimmering melodies and celestial energy that permeates the soul. It makes for one of the most brilliantly atmospheric and cinematic albums of ambient we've heard in a while.

Review: Malmo, Sweden-based Bolero Record store boss Dip Shim comes correct on his debut album with a sublime series of personal and storytelling cuts that find him digging deep into his reserves. The music is said to draw on his childhood in Spain and mixes up elements of downtempo, electro, techno and house. Across the 12 tracks there is plenty to explore with pensive electro opener 'Enter The Maragrillo' twitchy downbeat acid jam 'One For Regen' and deep space ambient soundtrack 'Bases Didacticas' all making an indelible impact.

Review: Leaving Records continues to gift us the most blissful sounds from parts unknown, or more specifically the LA underground, with this album from Fabiano Do Nascimento. The Brazil-born guitarist carries his roots through into his playing, gently folding samba and choro influences and a rich background in Brazilian classical into compositions embellished with the lightest touches of electronics. It's a resolutely soothing listen, as you would expect from Leaving, but it's not a static field of ambience. Rather, there are hidden treasures and intriguing pathways Nascimento leads us down, always finding a sense of resolution even the surroundings shift before our ears.

Review: Belgian synthesist David Edren has a sterling reputation as part of the rapidly re-blossoming (if that's a word) New Age music scene. Once the preserve of hippies-cum-proto-hipsters who preferred must to musk and were well ahead of their time in terms of things like seaweed-based chocolate alternatives and not being bastards to the planet, in the 21st Century their values, and at least some of their favourite sounds, are finally becoming mainstream.
Over 12 tracks, Relativiteit Van De Omgeving reveals itself to be an incredibly visual experience, both in terms of creation and consumption. Apparently, Edren was picturing widescreen imagery of the tracks themselves, from meteor showers to the miniature jungle of an urban greenhouse. This is reflected in the tones themselves, which move from earthy and woody ('Uurwerk') to cosmic ('Schaatsenrijder'), and back again.

Review: The legendary Future Sound Of London have finally started dropping their Environments series on vinyl format, which will no doubt please the countless numbers of FSOL junkies out there! These sessions, the present title being the penultimate in a series of five, have been long sought after and they have been pivotal in shaping the sound of today's electronic dance music. Fifteen tracks in total here and the interesting thing about this album is the fact that it can be heard either as single tracks or as one developing and morphing wall of sound.
