Announcing the Dual Looping Delay from 4ms Company, designed by Gary Hall!

The 4ms Dual Looping Delay (or DLD) is an advanced audio processor for creative synthesis. Not a tape or analog emulation but a modern crystal-clear digital delay, the DLD combines features of delay, looping, and sample-tight synchronization for powerful and dynamic sound capture and modification. The DLD is designed to integrate seamlessly with modular time-base and sequencing devices such as the 4ms Quad Clock Distributor (QCD), etc.

What is a "Looping Delay"?
Modern looping devices grew directly from hardware digital delays of the late 70s and early 80s. A looping delay, modelled on units such as the classic Lexicon PCM42, has the very long storage times associated with dedicated looping, but without triggered record and playback functions.

By default, a looping delay records and plays continuously, though recording can be suspended at any time with Infinite Repeat. Sustain of delays and loops is mainly accomplished with regeneration, allowing an organic, evolving approach to sound creation as new material replaces old, more or less gradually. The 4ms Dual Looping Delay also provides advanced clock input and output facilities that allow for locking delayed and looped material with sequencers and rhythm devices of all descriptions.

High fidelity, two-channel stereo sample recorder & playback module
Notes: The Stereo Triggered Sampler can record high quality stereo files, while simultaneously playing two different stereo files. A maximum of 600 samples can be loaded from the removable/swappable microSD card, in a variety of formats up to 96kHz/32-bit/stereo WAV. All sample parameters (1V/oct pitch, sample file selection, length, and start position) are CV controllable.

600 Samples:
A maximum of 600 samples can be loaded at once, arranged into banks of 10 samples each. Samples and banks can be re-arranged on the fly using the simple on-board Edit features. Newly recorded samples can be instantly played back and re-pitched, reversed, chopped up, etc... the result of which can even be bounced down and re-recorded to as a new sample! Sample files are limited to 4GB each, which is over 6 hours at 44k/16b/stereo.

Two Stereo Playback Channels:
Each playback channel has a knob and CV jack for Sample File selection, as well as a Start Position knob and CV jack for controlling where in the sample playback will begin. The Length knob and CV jack determine how much of the sample is played back: from tiny grains, to percussive hits, to longer loops... or just the entire file. These are powerful tools for re-arranging a sample, joining multiple samples, and creating dynamically re-sized loops within a larger sample. Combined with the Play Trigger jack and the 1V/oct jack, the STS can be two complete multi-timbral pitch-tracked stereo voices!
There's also a Reverse button and jack for backwards playback, and an End Out jack for synchronizing loops, or cascading sample playback with other events.

Looping and Sync:
Looping is easy: just hold the PLAY button down for two seconds to toggle loop or one-shot. The loop timing clock will output from the End Out jack. Or, send a clock into the Play Trig jack to sync the loop to external timing.

Stereo Recording:
Whether you patched 47 modules to create the ultimate percussive blast, or you want to capture your four hour ambient performance, recording high-quality .wav files on the STS is simple. Just hit the REC button or fire a trigger and a new stereo .wav file will be created on the SD card. Do as many takes as you need: the STS never deletes your files. Re-ordering or re-arranging samples into banks is easy, even without a computer.
You can even fill a bank with 10 different variations and immediately use them for playback.
By default the STS records at 44.1kHz/16-bit, with an option for 24-bit (a future update may increase the sample rate to 96kHz)

Easy sample loading:
Using a computer is completely optional with the STS, since samples can be recorded directly to the module and placed into the bank of your choosing. But for users with large existing sample banks, the intuitive automatic bank loading features make dragging and dropping your entire sample library a snap. You never have to rename your files again!

Notes: This 30HP wide module features twelve fixed frequency, inductor based bandpass filters, set at half octave interval spacing and covering from 125 Hz through to 5.8kHz. It also features low pass and high pass shelf filters, again they are fixed frequency and both are active inductor based circuits. It has a vintage pedigree that harks back to the original and highly sought after 914 Fixed Filter bank from the 1960's Moog 900 series modular synthesiser system, however we have brought this design up to date and made it compact enough to fit into skiff friendly Eurorack cases by using gyrator based active inductors, and have added some other very useful features too - the bands are split alternatively to left and right channels, each having their own individual output, and there is also an inbuilt Voltage Controlled cross-fader that allows panning between the left and right banks, with a mix of all bands available in the central position.

In addition, we have a second cross fader that can mix between the dry incoming signal, or an external signal fed into input 2, and this is cross-faded against the wet MIX Output - this allows Voltage Controlled crossfading from wet to dry signals, or between wet and external signals - and the level of each can be adjusted using the Input 1 and Input 2 level controls.

A further addition is the feedback control, this is similar in design to the resonance control on a regular VCF, but because of the multiple fixed filters topology it is rather different in operation - it would normally be added in small amounts to thicken up the sound, however we have allowed the feedback to traverse to quite extreme settings for howling feedback and even soft clipped self-oscillation, especially for the noise merchants out there...

Using L/C inductor topology bandpass circuits rather than the usual Sallen Key R/C active bandpass filters does give a slightly different sound and this is part of the magic of the original 914 filterbank, as the LC based circuit exhibits less phase shift against frequency that the more common Sallen Key R/C based bandpass filters that are used in many Modular synths.

Many people often wrongly assume that a fixed filter bank is exactly the same as a graphic equaliser - however this is certainly not the case, if all of the controls of a graphic EQ are set to centre then a flat frequency response is expected and the output will sound very similar, or identical to the input - this does not happen with a fixed filter bank, the frequency response rises and falls as it passes between each stage (but to a lesser extent than if the filters are all set to maximum output), so it acts as a soft slope comb filter, and the resulting output sounds very different from the input signal. Also, with all of the individual filters turned to zero there will be no output at all.

6-channel performance mixer with three band EQ, mute & pan - 28HP
Notes: Hexmix System is a six channel performance mixer specially designed for Eurorack.

The system has two separate modules, the core of the mixer: Hexmix that has six channels with three band EQ, mute, pan and EQ section on the master, and Hexpander that add three auxiliar sends per channel, PFL, individual outs and balanced output.

The mixer has a strong inspiration in classical DJ mixers, providing sharp EQ's for enhanced performance, auxilliar send for effects and individual outputs to record your performance per channel.

The unique Mute Section is a powerful tool for performances, providing a momentary mute function controlled by vactrols and adding a smooth release to the signal decay.

The system is designed to be placed in 6U, instead of the traditional 3U paradigm in Eurorack. So we will have every feature for each channel vertically as a conventional tabletop mixing deck.

This is a six channels mixer with three band EQ, vactrol mutes, pan and volume control per channel.

Inputs for every channel are located at left side of Hexmix. Each jack is normalized to a VCA Expander connection in the back, so if you have a Hexmix VCA, you will have the output of each VCA to every input. connecting a jack in any input will disconnect whatever is coming from VCA.

Each Channel Strip is divided in four basic sections, that will go in the following order: Gain, Mute, EQ and Pan.

Gain is set to unity, so it will act as an attenuator of the input signal. Mutes are clickless, as they are vactrol based. This circuit provide some decay on the mutes, rather than a sharp cut.

Switches have latch position and momentary ones to unmute the channel, providing some really nice performative capabilities.

EQs are quite sharp (12dB) inspired in classic DJ mixers to aggressively cut selected frequencies.

Master section has its own EQ and volume control for the mix of all channels. Master EQ is software than individual channel's (6dB) and it's meant to provide control over the final mix.

It's possible to change output level from line to synth with a switch located in the back.

This will be pretty useful when used in combination with Hexpander, that provides a balanced out at line level. Like this it's possible to have a mix at synth level to re-route the master signal while having an output to PA.

Expander module for the Befaco Hex Mix
Notes: Hexpander adds great functionality to Hexmix module. Featuring Three aux send with stereo returns, individual outputs for each channel, complete PFL system and balanced output.

Hexpander is designed to be placed on top of Hexmix. Expanding Eurorack concept to 6u, allows every channel to be aligned as in traditional tabletop mixers.

Auxiliar sends:
For every channel you have three auxiliar sends. One pot will measure the amount of signal sent to each of them.

Every auxiliar send has a volume pot, that will measure the level of the signal sent. There are two jacks available so it is possible to send the signal both pre or post fader/EQ at the same time, allowing to patch externally depending if its desired to have the original signal, or the signal after being EQ'ed on the effect.

Returns are stereo, having a switch to select if the signal is coming from synth or line level. Like this, levels can be set, for example, either for a guitar pedal or a FX module at synth level.

Monitor section:
Hexpander features a complete PFL system, to send channels to the headphones before you add them to main mix.

Flip PFL switch to send that channel to the headphones out.

With PFL/Master Pot you can do a crossfade between the master signal and every channel sent to PFL. Headphones out will control headphones volume.

Level meter will show the level of the sum of all active PFLs. When there is no PFL active, it will show master level.

Output section:
Every channel has individual 6,5? jacks out at line level. Here you have the signal of every channel post EQ.

As an addition, you have master balanced output.

USB to MIDI to CV converter synth module - 12HP
Notes: Shuttle Control is a 16-channel MIDI/CV interface which can receive USB-MIDI at a number of inputs simultaneously. For instance control signals from a tablet/PC/Mac at the "to device socket" or USB-MIDI-Keyboard or controllers via the "to host" sockets.

Modular drum synthesiser with seven voices 30 HP

Quad polyphonic wavetable oscillator with 4 voices per VCO - 29HP
Notes: The 4Vox is a quad wavetable oscillator with up to four voices per VCO, resulting in a maximum of 16 voices at four individual outputs. With the MIDI In, the module can be played both with CVs and directly via MIDI, which also allows for modulating some additional parameters. There are 39 memory locations for wavetables and 32 for all global parameters of the VCOs.

The parameters of a wavetable can be controlled by CVs and by MIDI. For instance, you can morph through a wavetable with a CV, a MIDI controller or manually with the potentiometer. The range of waves within a wavetable can be selected by minimum and maximum values individually per voice which allows for creating more complex morphs.

Further controllable parameters are Detune, Semitone, Octave, Chord, Portamento, Amplitude and Amp Move (90 degrees phase shifted volume modulation of a VCO's 4 voices). Min and max values can be selected for those parameters as well. Via MIDI it's possible to control further parameters (notes, chords, pitch bend, patch selection and wavetable selection).

The VCOs can be played analogue (frequency by Pitch CV input), monophonic via MIDI or 4-voice polyphonic via MIDI.

The VCO can be used as a voltage controllable LFO with 3 modes: loop, one shot and gates. The SYNC input is used to trigger/reset the LFO. In one shot mode the LFO can be used as a trigger delay, too (SYNC = trigger in, GATE = trigger output, PITCH = delay time).

Each VCO has an analogue 1V/octave input including a fine tune control (+/-1 semitone) and pitch control (approx. 10 octaves), two freely assignable CV inputs, two freely assignable potentiometers, a trigger input for Sync/LFO-reset as well as a Gate and VCO/LFO output

The display can show a graphic of the selected waveforms.

All global parameters and also the VCO's settings can be named and saved as a non-volatile patch by the user. 32 memory locations are available.

4-channel CV recorder, looper & lo-fi sampler - 14HP
Notes: Four-channel recorder/looper for recording and playing back control voltages or potentiometer movements in a very wide frequency range, from very slow to fast. The output is a smoothed voltage without audible increments due to an algorithm with 16 bit resolution.

Synchronization via clock or MIDI and "punch-in" recordings are possible. The recording time per channel is up to one hour (such us MIDI clock) independent of selected sync mode.

Four independent channels are used for recording control voltages from analogue sequencers, LFOs, envelope generators, joysticks as well as potentiometer movements. It's possible to record/playback CVs in 16 Bit resolution either in the -5V to +5V range or from 0V to +10V. You can set the range individually for each channel.

SOURCE determines the record source. This can be the CV input, the potentiometer or both. ZOOM is a two stage fine adjust function of the control ruler.

Playing back the tracks can happen manually, via a Trigger, a Gate or via MIDI Start/Stop. Following modes are possible: LOOP, SINGLE (one shot), GATE (gated playback) and SCAN (CV scanning). Using the SCAN mode, the recorded sample can be scanned via CV input or the pot of the channel. It is possible to manually play the track velocity and direction (feasible effects: reverse, randomized, stuttering).

There are a number of possibilities to manipulate track playback. After the recording you can change the START point, end point (LENGTH) and playback SPEED or determine if the loop is set with the CVs or pots.

Using the LINK function, it is possible to group channels for multitrack or joystick recording: ALL allows for using all four channels individually. In DUAL mode tracks are grouped in sets of two or four tracks at any one time (e.g. for simultaneous recording of X and Y axes of a joystick).

Synchronization via clock or MIDI and "punch-in" recordings are possible with individual settings per track and with automatic detection of the clock frequency (number of clocks per quarter). When synchronising to MIDI Clock (96 pulses per bar) you can record up to one hour. The HARD/SOFT setting uses different levels for the CV interpolation in Clock/MIDI sync mode.

Notes: The SAPEL is a random control voltages source for Eurorack modular systems. It is composed of two main sections, one that generates audio noises, in 4 different versions, and another which includes two specular random clock, random voltages and clock sources.

In addition to that, it is also possible to hand trigger the clock via a manual sample & hold button, which can be also modulated by gate signals.

Its per-channel octave, detune, vibrato, and slew controls facilitate full performance control of four oscillators at once, with minimum patch cords required. It excels at bringing multiple oscillators from different manufacturers into full cooperation, with the flexibility to quickly switch between multiple performance setups. Processed control voltages are quantized to the scale of your choice, with the slew limiting able to be routed pre- or post-quantizer. A common vibrato control distributes the internal modulation signal to any of the outputs. A set of performance gate inputs allow instant modification of the fundamental channel settings (input selection/mixing, slew enable, quantizer track-and-hold), and a quantizer trigger output automatically fires when channel 1 quantizes a new note. The Troika is an arrangement of three all analogue oscillators which can function completely independently or together via parallel pitch tracking utilizing cascading 1V/octave CV normal connections.

The foundations for many powerful subtractive synth voices often use multiple oscillators. Detuning these slightly from one another gives the timbral richness which helped define the original synthesizers of the 60s and 70s.

The Troika was designed to simplify the patching of layered voices in this manner with the benefit of having three voices with matched components and calibration for consistent pitch tracking.

The oscillators each have linear FM inputs with attenuators as well as oscillator sync inputs. This allows for FM operator configurations with first order and even second order modulation on a single module.

Sine, triangle, sawtooth and square waveforms are generated from each oscillator voice, with exception to oscillator three, which lacks triangle but gains CV controllable pulse-width modulation over its square wave.

The waveform control section of the troika utilizes switching between sliding potentiometers which allow for crossfading between the simple waveforms. The arrangement of the waveforms between the three oscillators allows for linear crossfading between any two basic waveforms.

Dual complex morphable wavetable VCO eurorack synth module
Notes: Cylonix and Intellijel have collaborated to bring you a very sophisticated and deeply complex Wavetable VCO. At the core of this module is very powerful FPGA board that he has pushed to the absolute max of its capabilities and crammed full of features. We wanted to create a module that really worked well in the modular context so there are a lot of modulation and control possibilities.

CHORDS
Oscillator 1 can be operated in a CHORD mode, which runs 8 copies of the oscillator in parallel with adjustable detuning, leading to very fat, rich waveforms. The oscillators have extensive modulation capabilities including audio rate (98KHz) Frequency and Phase Modulation (FM and PM) via external sources. Nonlinear combination processes allow the outputs of the two oscillators to interact to generate complex timbres and sonic textures.
There are 64 user selectable chords.

WAVEFOLDER
The SHAPESHIFTER module also includes the analog wave folder circuitry from
module to add analog warmth and metallic rasps to the digital oscillator output.
External signals can also be patched in.

PRESETS
The module includes a sophisticated preset mode where panel settings can be stored. There are 12 user-programmable preset slots and another 52 volatile slots that can be used as a scratchpad. These scratchpad slots are initialized to interesting presets on module powerup. The capabilities of the preset mode is not limited to mere passive storage of settings, however. In this mode the user can also step through, or sequence, the settings, either in order or randomly in response to pulses input to the external sync input. This gives the user the ability to generate complex sequences of sounds. The preset mode also allows the user to morph between the current panel settings and a preset providing a very powerful real-time performance tool.

Physical modelling percussion synthesiser module - 12HP
Notes: Plonk uses a technique known as physical modelling to synthesize, with great realism, the way in which sound is produced by acoustic instruments. The Plonk module is, itself, focused primarily on creating percussive sounds - both pitched and un-pitched; natural and unnatural; acoustic-sounding or totally electronic.

Plonk does this by breaking sound creation into two distinct elements - the exciter and the resonator. The exciter is a mathematical model of the device used to strike a particular surface. Plonk, because it's percussion oriented, has two types of exciters: one modelled on a mallet, and the other providing a noise source. The resonator is a virtualization of the object being struck, which vibrates, resonates and creates the body of a sound. Plonk offers several types of resonators: beam; marimba; drumhead; membrane; plate; and string.

Plonk provides numerous parameters that let you shape, mould and design both the exciter and the resonator, thus enabling you to synthesize the sound of striking or scraping almost any type of object - real or imagined. In this way, Plonk can accurately model the sounds of kicks, snares, toms, cymbals, claps, tablas, congas and all manner of traditional percussion instruments. It can also model pitched percussive instruments, like vibes, marimbas, and even bass or guitar-like tones. Of course, it additionally excels at modelling instruments that heretofore never existed.

Best of all, the sounds created by Plonk are not static - any sound you design can respond dynamically to velocity, as well as four different modulation inputs. This means the sound of Plonk can change completely from note-to-note (or strike-to-strike). Because of this, Plonk is actually a duophonic (2-voice) module, which lets the sound of one note decay naturally when a second note (possibly employing an entirely different set of modelling values) is struck. Thus, hitting a new note does not choke the sound of the previously struck note (unless you want it to, of course)!

Plonk stores up to 128 patches in its internal memory, and ships with many presets programmed by professional sound designers and composers. You may overwrite these patches if you wish, and banks of patches may be transferred via MIDI System Exclusive over Plonk's built-in mini-USB port to facilitate offline storage by programs or websites that support this capability.

Plonk was developed in cooperation with Montreal-based Applied Acoustics Systems - physical modelling pioneers, and the creators of Tassman, Lounge Lizard, String Studio, Ultra Analog, Chromaphone and numerous other plugins. It is with great pleasure that Intellijel brings the potential of this physical modelling technology to a hands-on, CV-laden device capable of the sort of dynamic control and sonic exploration that modular synthesists demand.

Bass drum synth module
Notes: We are happy to introduce our new Jomox 19" euro rack module series.

In the 19" euro rack market we also want to keep our concept of storeable analog sound production because it offers just too many advantages.
In order to achieve this, we had to develop a complete new analog control system for our circuitries inside these modules.

We'd like to make these euro rack products interesting for both live drummers and modular people. Therefore, a CV/Gate control and trigger inputs for drumpad pickups are available.
For regular modular use, analog routable CV inputs and an analog output are accessible via 3.5mm jacks. The Gate can be configured as 0-5V (0-15V is accepted too), inversed or s-trigger.

Everything is storeable and can be recalled via encoder klick from 100 presets. But for the analog feel of modular, eight potentiometers give you the fine and precise editing of the most important parameters without stepping through menus.
E-Drummers can create complete E-drum setups, because there is an internal Jomox analog connection bus with a fast digital link which can do a submix and an FX send mix from each module hooked up to the bus.
With this system bus you won't need to use the audio outputs but instead you have a programmable bus system that can link to future master, sequencer and mixing or effects modules - which can take control over the single modules.
This makes the whole modular setup recallable and storeable from a center module like a drum machine.

Also, to link the ModBase modules to our other products, they all have a Midi interface on the rear that can be wired within the rack case and being cascaded from one module to another.
The menu selection is paged by two-colored LEDs for both sides of the menu.
Two internal LFOs which both control the tuning of the kick drum VCO expand the sound spectrum once more.

All analog parameters are either storeable and controllable via Midi. The Midi notes control the pitch of the kick drum VCO.

Too, the modules are controllable via CV/Gate and via trigger pads for live drummers. With the trigger input, the threshold and velocity dependend dynamics can be adjusted.

Four routable CV inputs let all internal sound parameters (incl. LFOs and metallic noise) be controlled by CV sequencers. Every CV input provides an own programmable amount which can be negative too (i.e. subtracting the CV value from the internal value). The range goes from 0..5V.

Experimental sampler module - record, slice & rearrange audio material
Notes: The Morphagene is a next generation tape and microsound music module that uses Reels, Splices and Genes to create new sounds from those that already exist. Search between the notes to find the unfound sounds.

Upgraded memory performance offers an increase from 1.45 minutes to 2.9 minutes of record time.

If you are using Splices that are over 1 minute long the SLIDE parameter will be scanning across a massive amount of material and therefore the longer the Splice the longer it will take to get to where you are Sliding toward. Imagine a tape machine shuttling forward or backward to get to your desired destination. No we cannot change this, the MG is scanning as fast as possible. This new double record time firmware will make this even more of a factor.

Read and Write times will be MUCH longer when you have a Full 2.9 minute reel. So for example, if you decided to erase a 5 second Splice in the middle of a 2.9 minute reel it will take twice as long as before because the MG must re-write the entire 2.9 minute reel. Of course all of this is happening in the background and should not cause too much hassle. Still when that SHIFT button is flashing it is best to not perform more SD Card actions.

For most granular processing Splices of 10 seconds or less are recommended.

So why even bother increasing record time to 2.9 minutes? Well it allows for storing even more Splices on a Reel and it also makes it possible to record long portions of a patch for later arranging within your DAW. You could potentially capture a patch, including modulations of a shorter Splice (say 10 seconds), retrieve the sound from the SD Card and compile into a larger work using your DAW.

Complex oscillation module - 22HP
Notes: The Noisy Oscillator module is an oscillator that mixes two signals: a 'regular' wave (sawtooth/square/triangle) and a 'tonal noisy' wave. This adds a special noisy layer over the sound, that adds 'air', grit or dirt, depending on the combinations you make. The MOD parameter acts on the noisy waveforms:

- Sonar Noise: a white noise filtered by a resonant bandpass filter, with 1V/oct tracking of the filter frequency. The MOD parameter controls the resonance.
- Wind Noise: white noise filtered by a comb filter, with 1V/oct tracking of the base frequency (delay). The MOD parameter controls a 6dB/oct hipass filter.
- Arcade Noise: LFSR noise source as can be found on the SID soundchips (Commodore) or Sega Arcade games. The MOD parameter controls again a 6dB/oct hipass filter.

The noisy wave can be set equal, or 1 or 2 octaves above the regular wave.

The module has two voices, with their own set of CV and output connectors. This can be used to play in a full 2-voice polyphony, or in a 2-voice unison. The outputs can be separate, using both output connectors, or mixed, using only the connector of the second voice.

Next to the 1V/oct pitch CV, the module offers CV control over pitch (FM), the MOD parameter and the sound level:

- FM CV: pitch control normalled to 0V, attenuated with the FM knob (+ and -). This allows for Frequency Modulation up to the lower audio range. It's of course a digital module, so higher frequencies can start inducing aliasing and digital artefacts.
- MOD CV: CV control for the MOD parameter, normalled to 0V and attenuated with the CV AMT knob (+ and -).
- LEVEL CV: CV control for the sound volume, normalled to 7.5V. With this CV control you can omit an external VCA stage if you want.

The CV signals of the second voice (upper row of connectors) are always normalled to the signal of the first voice (lower row), so you can use a single LFO for some FM vibrato or tremolo on both voices, for example. Only the V/oct connector of the second voice is normalled to the first voice with an extra addition of a fixed voltage that can be set using a trimmer at the backside of the module. This way you can use the 2 voices to play in unison with a fixed pitch separation you can set on the backside.

Modal synthesis voice module comprising a noisy and impulsive excitation signal generator, and 64-partial modal resonator
Notes: Elements is a full-blown synthesis voice based on modal synthesis - an under-appreciated flavour of physical modelling synthesis with a strange and abstract feel.

Elements combines an exciter synthesis section generating raw, noisy sounds characteristic of bowing (filtered friction noise), blowing (pitch-controlled granular noise), or striking (stick, mallet, hammer or brush sample playback... or bursts of synthetic impulsions). These sources, or external audio signals, are processed by a modal filter bank - an ensemble of 64 tuned band-pass filters simulating the response of various resonant structures (plates, strings, tubes...) with adjustable brightness and damping. A stereo ambience reverberator adds depth and presence to the sound.

All parameters have a very meaningful and well-delimited impact on the sound. When designing Elements, great care has been taken in selecting parameter ranges and control curves, producing a large palette of sounds - often beyond physical realism - but always well controlled and stable. The "dark spots" of noise and feedback are reached gradually, and they do still react to controls. The module is deliberately menu- and switch-free - what you dial/patch is what you hear!
