MIDI converters & accessories

For any hardware studio, MIDI accessories are essential to help connect all your synths, drum machines and other gear. Brands like Kenton and MIDI Solutions offer a range of thru boxes, mergers and patchbays to help keep everything connected and in sync. Simple MIDI thru boxes split one incoming signal into multiple outputs, while mergers mix multiple incoming signals. More advanced patchbays allow you to route signals around multiple inputs and outputs, switching routings at the touch of a button. You’ll also find MIDI clock generators from E-RM, offering rock-solid timing when used as the main clock to control all your MIDI gear.

MIDI Solutions Beat Converter
MIDI Solutions Beat Converter (MIDI beat converter)
Cat: 592379 Rel: 10 Nov 15

Can be programmed to send out a Note or Control Change message on the beat in response to MIDI Clock messages
Notes: The Beat Converter can be programmed to send out a Note or Control Change message on the beat in response to MIDI Clock messages. This enables devices that only allow their tap tempo function to be controlled by a Note or Control Change message to be synchronized to devices that send MIDI Clock.

The Beat Converter is programmed by sending it MIDI System Exclusive messages (see FAQs - Programming). For a complete description of the programming options, see the Beat Converter Operating Instructions (.pdf file). Once programmed, settings are retained even after power is removed. The Beat Converter can be reprogrammed with new settings as often as needed.

MIDI Solutions Breath Controller
Cat: 524243 Rel: 14 Mar 14

Compact MIDI unit for generating MIDI data from Yamaha BC3A and older BC2 Breath Controller
Notes: * Note that Yamaha has discontinued the BC3A, however we will continue to produce this product in the near term for customers that have previously purchased the BC3A.

The MIDI Solutions Breath Controller is a breath to MIDI converter for use with the Yamaha BC3A Breath Controller (TM). The Breath Controller accepts the BC3A as input and generates continuous MIDI data corresponding to the amount of breath pressure applied to it. The Breath Controller will also accept older Yamaha BC2 units.

The Breath Controller can be programmed to send:

Aftertouch

Pitch Bend

Control Change

System Exclusive

The Breath Controller has a MIDI Echo parameter that is selectable on/off.

Another unique feature of the Breath Controller is its ability to add a variable amount of curvature to the response of the applied pressure of the BC3A. This allows you to correct for a nonlinear response, or to add greater response at one end of the breath range compared to the other.

The Breath Controller is programmed by sending it MIDI System Exclusive messages (see FAQs - Programming). Once programmed, its settings are retained even after power is removed. The Breath Controller can be reprogrammed with new settings as often as needed. The Breath Controller's factory default settings are for it to send CC #7 (volume) on MIDI channel 1, with the Echo parameter set to ON.

The Breath Controller is MIDI-powered, and requires no batteries or power supply to operate with most MIDI products (see FAQs - Power and FAQs - LED for more information). A MIDI indicator LED lights up when the product is powered and flashes when MIDI data passes through it.

MIDI Solutions Pedal Controller
Cat: 524242 Rel: 13 Mar 14

Compact MIDI unit for generating MIDI data using an external expression pedal
Notes: The Pedal Controller accepts an expression pedal (such as the Yamaha FC7 or Roland EV-5 or any potentiometer connected to a 1/4" stereo phone plug) as an input and generates continuous MIDI data based on its position. The Pedal Controller may be inserted inline at any point in the MIDI data stream, allowing you to send continuous controller information to any device in your MIDI setup.

The Pedal Controller's factory default settings are for it to send CC#7 (volume) on MIDI channel 1, so if this is what you need the Pedal Controller to do then no programming is necessary - just insert the Pedal Controller in your setup and it's ready to use. The Pedal Controller can also be programmed to send other types of MIDI messages, for more info read on...

The Pedal Controller can be programmed to send:

Aftertouch

Pitch Bend

Control Change

System Exclusive

The Pedal Controller has a MIDI Echo parameter that is selectable on/off.

The Pedal Controller accurately tracks the position of the pedal or potentiometer connected to it. Small fluctuations are eliminated when the pedal is in a stationary position and no extraneous messages are sent out. When the pedal is moved slightly, the Pedal Controller will send an update even if its position has only changed by a single value. Many control wheels or knobs only update themselves every two or every four values, resulting in coarser control, and sometimes zipper noise.

Another unique feature of the Pedal Controller is its ability to add a variable amount of curvature to the response of the pedal. This allows you to correct for pedals with nonlinear responses, or to add greater response at one end of the pedal compared to the other.

The Pedal Controller is programmed by sending it MIDI System Exclusive messages (see FAQs - Programming). Once programmed, its settings are retained even after power is removed. The Pedal Controller can be reprogrammed with new settings as often as needed. The Pedal Controller's factory default settings are for it to send CC #7 (volume) on MIDI channel 1, with the Echo parameter set to ON.

Notes: The MIDI Solutions Velocity Converter applies selected velocity curves to incoming MIDI notes. Curves can be selected from 40 preset curves or a user defined curve. Even though the 40 presets offer a wide range of curves that are enough to cover most needs, the user curve makes the Velocity Converter a completely versatile device by allowing one curve to be created to an exact specification.

The Velocity Converter can apply a separate curve to each MIDI channel, allowing the velocity response of a sending keyboard to be matched to individual sound modules that are each set to receive on a different MIDI channel.

Another feature of the Velocity Converter is the option to assign velocities based on a selected incoming Control Change value. In this mode, the Velocity Converter monitors the value of a selected Control Change message on a selected MIDI channel, and applies this value to all incoming velocities on that MIDI channel. It is also possible to add an offset to this value to keep the outgoing velocities above a specified level.

The Velocity Converter is programmed by sending it MIDI System Exclusive messages (see FAQs - Programming). This can be done easily with the Processors Programming Tools software. Once programmed, its settings are retained even after power is removed. The Velocity Converter can be reprogrammed with new settings as often as needed.

The Velocity Converter is MIDI-powered, and requires no batteries or power supply to operate with most MIDI products (see FAQs - Power and FAQs - LED for more information). A MIDI indicator LED lights up when the product is powered and flashes when MIDI data passes through it.
