His own music is never far away from influential charts and record bags and now he serves up a funky number packed with soul samples. 'Soul Glow' kicks off with playful drum loops and filters, a neat bassline and infectious claps. 'Party People' has a more edgy feel with silvery drums and tumbling congas while 'Homage' is the most raw and direct and possibly the best of the lot with its chunky drums and razor-sharp hi-hats.

Review: While hardly a "Holy Grail"all bar a few people didn't know it existed until recently, D.J Never Sleep's sole single, the private press gem 'Teorema', can certainly be described as "buried treasure". It was reportedly the work of some experienced Italian producers, though its' sound is all Spanish guitar solos, early house-meets-Latin freestyle beats, joyous Piano riffs and evocative female vocals, it is pure formative Balearic house. This Thank You reissue not only showcases the original EP's two leading mixes (track two here, the more chugging and synth bass-sporting rework, is the pick), but also a never-released, effects-laden 'Never Sleepy Beats' drum took, plus versions in Spanish (B1) and French (B2).

Review: Disco editry with a touch of class from Maschio, who enlist the talent of nu-disco artist Boris Dlugosch for a re-edit of a re-edit. Of course, there was impetus to do so after a very big DJ played the track in a Boiler Room set. Whether this was the true the catalyst for this release, it's undeniable that the production added onto 'I Don't Want To Lose You' by the falsetto group Lime is infectious enough, essentially adding a stark FM bass to an already sparse mix. The real star of the show is the B-side, though. Sheila B. Devotion's 'Spacer' gets an unusual uptempo remix, with crude yet deep piano hooks interspersing an indeterminate, new wavey beat.

Review: The legendary DMX Krew is as accomplished as they come when talking about electro innovators. Each time he steps out he proves that and this new one proves it, quite knowingly so given the title. The title track 'Still Got It' is a stomping electro sizzler with lashing of disco goodness and a catchy vocal hook. The dub fleshes out the low end while 'Paranoia' picks up the pace on the flip. It's a high speed cut with dazzling melodic sequences riding up and down the scale. Cold then shuts down with boogie energy and more lush Casino keys.

Review: As always, Washington DC' Peoples Potential Unlimited have resurfaced another rare-as-hens-teeth boogie number and, while we are madly in love with this label, we need to appreciate more just how important they've been to the survival of funk music in recent years. This time, it's Donald Walker's only EP to grace their catalogue, an artist who went by the name of Dohnnie on his solo projects. "Dancin Is Your Love" exudes funk from every corner, backed by a badman bassline, some freaky guitar strings, and Walker's own seductive disco tone. It's a one-track EP precisely because this tune deserves to grace a whole side of a 12". Utterly unmissable, and heavily recommended.

Review: Dombrance is back with a typically vibrant new EP on Discolypso that features two fresh tracks and remixes from luminaries Francois K and Lindstrom. Once referred to as a 'French Jarvis Cocker with a bushy moustache and flares,' Dombrance is a musical maverick who dropped his debut album last year and performed globally from Glastonbury to Downtown LA. Review: Considered "the absolute Don of Italo piano house", Don Carlos is up next on esteemed NYC label Razor N Tape with an EP of rare vintage house from the archives - 30 years old in fact. For the uninitiated, Don (Carlo Troya) and S-Tone (Stefano Tirone) released two records on Italian imprint Calypso in the early '90s under the alias Montego Bay. Features the emotive, late-night garage of 'Music All Night' (Deep In Milano mix) followed by the low-slung dancefloor heater 'Keep Dancing The Boogie' on the A-side. The flip offers the life-affirming vocal cuts 'Waited So Long' and 'Gotta Keep Dancing' respectively which perfectly capture the zeitgeist of house music's golden era in the early '90s.

Review: Since making his bow as Donald Dust six years ago, Tom Banks has codified a signature sound rich in jacking, Ron Hardy style drum tracks, surging Italo-disco melodies, late '80s European house sounds and 21st century nu-Italo tropes. All these ingredients - and more - can be heard on his latest EP for Bordello a Parigi. Opener 'Nausea', for example, audibly doffs a cap to Koto and Bobby Orlando, while the more percussive, sweat-soaked 'Sick Your Own' remix of the same track provides an energetic, peak-time ready alternative. There are two mixes, too, of 'Jupiter Jack': the new beat-meets-Italo-disco throb of the 'Groovy Mix' and the breathless mid-80s Chicago house flex of the 'Jupiter Mix'. Review: Amy Douglas is the latest addition to the Razor-N-Tape talent ranks and serves up a mighty fine rough 'n' tumble New York disco double A-side 7" to open her account. The opener is 'Freak At Night' with stiff synth stabs and strident drums that get the party pumping while the belting vocal brings the soulful hook. Absolute dynamite. Things are a little more loose on the flip with 'Bit-O-Honey' having more jangling drums and guitar riffs underpinned by a funky bass riff. The vocal is more florid and expressive making this a different but equally impactful sound.

Review: First released on the obscure Derby label way back in 1982, Dr Togo's debut single "Be Free" has long been an in-demand Italo-disco rarity. It was co-produced by Louis Figino, who had previously produced Kano's legendary single "I'm Ready", and featured that band's lead vocalist, Glenn White, as the headline-grabbing Dr Togo. This much-needed reissue boasts both versions from the original 12: the deep disco warmth of the A-side vocal version, in which White's invitation to come dance rides rich chords, rubbery slap-bass and spacey synthesizers, and the dub style flipside "Instrumental" mix. In keeping with the style of the time it was recorded, this includes additional layered percussion and selected snippets of the original's female backing vocals.

Review: Brooklyn's Toucan Sounds collabs with Mexico City's Super Spicy Records to drop the 'Beginning' EP from Drop Out Orchestra & Monsieur Van Pratt. Leading the release is floor filler 'Glitter', which gets the party started with brightly mixed horns, saxophone flair and deep bass licks, before moving into 'Feel Great', with New York R&B artist Shareef Keyes' vocals sitting atop an effortlessly grooving and sparkling production. Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue's baritone sparks joy in 'Get Busy', sliding into higher registers in the chorus over a crystal clear funk backdrop. For the final track on the EP, 'Organ Fett' drops the vocals for earworm synth leads, organs, and guitar hooks, conjuring images of palm trees and orange sunsets. Review: ** REPRESS ALERT ** A couple of all time George Duke greats get the official remastered and reissue treatment here. The American songwriting legend's "I Want You for Myself' from 1979 gets a mighty Tom Moulton rework on the A side - which streamlines the essential groove of the original just nicely. On the flip, the sultry late night mood lighting of "Brazilian Love Affair" is funky, soulful and groovy in all the right amounts - the album of the same name from 1980 was hailed as his most popular. He's at it again on his latest outing for the reborn Nu Groove label, offering up a quartet of ear-catching, peak-time ready treats. Review: Originally released way back in 1978 on a thoroughly obscure seven-inch single, Nina Dunn's sole single, 'If You Want My Love (Do It)' is one of the rarest Canadian disco records around. The team behind the Le Freak label are fans and have delivered this much-needed reissue. The title track (side A) is a righteous slab of funk-fuelled, orchestra-sporting disco built around a typical 'walking bassline', cut-glass strings and a brilliantly sassy, emotion-packed lead vocal from Dunn. Original B-side 'Stay & Dance', meanwhile, is a deeper and more laidback two-step disco affair with warmer horn arrangements, simmering strings and a killer, Clavinet-sporting groove section later in the track. Review: During the first COVID-19 lockdown of 20210, London-based afrobeat collective Eparapo, an - all-stars - outfit helmed by Afrobeat Orchestra member Suman Joshi and featuring his good friend Dele Sosimi, remotely recorded a handful of killer cuts. Two of these previously digital-only gems have finally made it to vinyl, accompanied by brand-new remixes. 'From London To Lagos' is an admirable commentary on corruption set to a fuzzy, infectious, Fela Kuti style afrobeat workout, while 'Black Lives Matter' is a slowed-down, stretched out and musically detailed affair that proudly takes aim on international racism. Review: In its full digital form, Z Records' excellent Life's Better With Disco Comp is an epic 37 tracks deep. Naturally there aren't that many cuts on this sampler 12", but the four on show are undoubtedly amongst the set's many highlights. Boss man Dave Lee kicks things off via a superb classic disco-meets-nu-disco revision of Firefly's 'Love Is Gunna Be On Your Side', before there's a chance to cop an obscure Backroom Productions rework of their early proto-house/garage-house gem (as Ruffneck), 'The Power - The Rhythm'. The mid-'80s fun continues on Larry Levan's vintage remix of Jonny Dynell's 'Rhythm of Love' - a killer fusion of dubbed-out synths and drums and Konk style Latin percussion - while Doug Willis' 'Doug's Disco Theme' is a classic disco-house number from Lee under one of his many alternative aliases.

Review: As one of the most cherished of all house tracks ever made, you have to be careful who you ask to remix Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle's 'Your Love'. Darius Syrossian recognises this as he offers a contemporary version of the track on this 12", threading a chunky, lightly swung tech house back bone to the track and slipping some breakbeats in underneath those dizzying emotional peaks in the track. Meanwhile Alan Dixon creates a version that holds closer to the original and simply beefs up the drums and threads some fatter synths into the mix. Meanwhile Knuckles himself teamed up with Eric Kupper to form Director's Cut in 2011, and their version appears here as a subtle update to the power of the original.

Review: Duca Bianco is back with one of its special various artists' releases, and a mighty fine one it is too. This one finds four guest producers all with their finest studio tools sharpened and ready for action. Two of the artists are well known but use new alias - one is Israeli synth and psyche wizards Red Axes who work their magic as Der Sexa on 'Gabi Plane' and another is Beauty & The Beat party man Cedric Woo as CW. He gets nice and twisted here while the other two cuts - one from Italo king Franz Scala who builds slow new wave funk, and one from Manchester's renowned edit kings Talking Drums who offer some lovely leftfield madness on 'DMNB', all make for crucial listening.
