Review: One of the most consistent harbingers of the broken beat this year, Nomine Sound introduce a brand new project from Asif Kid and Slimzee in the form of E3 Breaks. Exploring the murky 140 waters between breaks, garage, dubstep and jungle, both cuts gel a whole host of soundsystem genres together with their caustic, barbed wire beats; "The Curse" is a moody halftime grumbler with roots in dub but its heart in jungle while "Backroads" is a rampant roller that's not dissimilar to the early Botchit releases around 20 years ago. Sparse, sci fi and slippery.

Review: Flexing across his two more prominent aliases, Raff AKA Demon AKA Macabre Unit AKA Nurve b2b's himself hard in the kisser at the behest of professor Nomine. Three tunes a-side, his 140 dubstep-inspired Macabre Unit guise takes the lead with drama and dark humour; "Darth Vader" is a theatrical skanker, "Mash Up Da Place" is a woozy, toxic jam with a bassline that spirals into paranoia while "Man Up" gets all stiff upper-lip with its rising bass hook that flips between textures with a nervous twitch. Raff's slower, tech-inspired Nurve constructions complete the story with glacial glee... "Silentium" is a sparse, deep space twist on halftime and alien jungle, "Amazon" is a swampy triplet swinging riddim while "Best To Just Ride It" sends us packing off to space on a rocket of off-grid drums and raw man-eating bass. Immense.

Review: Nomine is veteran UK producer Andrew Ferguson, who has recorded for respected imprints such as Metalheadz, Tempa and Ohm Resistance during his many years of long service. Now he heads up the Nomine Sound imprint, which over the last couple of years has released genre-spanning music from the legendary Digital, grime/bass kingpins Boylan, newcomer Cocktail Party Effect and of course - Ferguson's own original Outrage alias. He strikes back with his first solo outing on the label since the inaugural release back in 2016. He returns to his roots on The Fear EP: with four tracks of tribal, ethnic and meditative 140 bpm bass music.

Review: Professor Nomine unleashes the third instalment of his new label and he's rolling in good company as Macabre Unit and Japanese grime MC Duff join him for the late night ride. Nomine's rhythms buzz with rolling energy - the electric waspy bass on "Grimy Tribe", the tripped reverse beats of "Game Over", the stark vocal rhythm of Duff on "World Of G". Macabre Unit takes us deeper into the swamp with the palpitating kicks of "Sound Boy" before getting all space-funk on "Red Stripe Riddim" and totally flipping the script on the squelched out bass twists of "Neurotik". Some truly futuristic stuff happening here...
