Review: Fusion Sequence is a new offshoot from the Mellophonia label that kicks off with a heavyweight release both literally - its 180g vinyl - and metaphorically. It features seven different artists offering up one track each on what is a widescreen exploration of fresh deep house. They are A Vision of Panorama, Eternal Love, Pool Boy, Wolfey, Laseech, Larry Quest and Jay Sound and between them everything from cuddly depths to more moody late-night deepness is covered on an EP that brings plenty of new perspectives. A fine inaugural 12", then.

Review: When Boston pair John Barera and Will Martin first appeared on Steffi's Dolly Tracks label last year, their brand of impeccably produced classicist house music felt right at home. Since that contribution to a split 12", Barera and Martin have become increasingly part of the Dolly family with a full 12" release earlier this year now complemented by Graceless, both the duo's and the label's debut LP. Some eight tracks deep, Graceless comes across as a masterclass in modern, punchy house music filled with soul with plenty of variety in tone and feel shown throughout. A very strong offering from Barera and Martin that is likely to be a record the busier house selectors pull for again and again.

Review: With an additional run of three club-minded MASSE remix 12"s released this week by Ostgut Ton, the hugely influential label will round up their soundtrack to the Berghain ballet with a collectors box set of six stand out scores from last year's production, six of which pressed to vinyl, with a further 16 on CD. Phillip Sollmann & Marcel Fengler's Din collaboration provide some of the more experimental highlights with the Dettmann-esque "Aetas" and the industrial ambience "Creation" and "Generation", while as you'd expect Henrik Schwarz delivers splashes of flamenco, classical music and rocky pop to the compilation that's unrivalled in production by any other producer making techno.

Review: Over the years, Ron Trent has released some fine albums, all of which have subtly expanded on his trademark soul-flecked, percussion-rich deep house sound. On What Do The Stars Say To You, his first new full-length excursion in 11 years, the Chicago native has taken a different approach, utilising his occasional WARM alias on a stunning set that abandons dancefloor-pleasing in favour of immersive, evocative and ultra-deep blends of ambient, downtempo, jazz-funk and electronica. It's a genuinely brilliant album all told, with a string of impressive guest musicians - including Ivan Conti and Alex Malheiros of Azymuth, electric jazz pioneer Jean-Luc Ponty, psychedelic Balearic specialists Khrungbin and Italian ambient maestro Gigi Masin - all making brilliant contributions. In a word: exceptional!

Review: We all know and love Ron Trent as a house music maestro, but as his elevated productions have betrayed over the years, his chops reach well beyond the simple demands of functional club stuff. In line with his more eclectic output, What Do The Stars Say To You heralds his WARM project in a frankly stunning burst of musicality that harks back to the glory days of 70s and 80s studio prowess. This is still music driven by a groove, but it's certainly not a house by numbers affair. Instead you get soaring violin solos (from Jean Luc Ponty no less), infinte threads of nimble keys work and enough downtempo, slinky grooves to buffet a yacht from the Balearics to the Florida Keys and back again. Featuring members of Azymuth, Gigi Masin and Khruangbin amongst others, this is a return to the craft of exquisite album making, as handled by a true master in his field.

Review: Given that it's been eleven years since Wajeed last released an album - the hip-hop focused "The War LP" - you'd expect the Detroiter's latest full-length to be a totally different beast. It is, of course, with "From The Dirt" containing more material influenced by his recent dalliances with Motor City deep house. Over the course of ten tasty tracks, the former Platinum Pied Pipers producer happily flits between acid-fired piano house ("From The Dirt"), Omar-S style goodness ("After You Left"), disco and funk-influenced vocal workouts (see "Things About You"), tasty tech-soul songs ("I Ain't Safe", the wonderful "Make It Happen") and jazz-flecked deep house dustiness (the percussive and swinging, "My Father's Rhythm").

Review: Motor City earned its name thanks to the increased mobility bestowed unto black Americans thanks to the invention of the car, and the centrality of the car industry on Detroit. On his latest LP, house maestro Waajeed pays homage to the joys of black leisure and play in the city, which came about in large part thanks to technological advancements such as this. In his own words, 'Memoirs Of Hi Tech Jazz' signifies the 'transition from labor to pleasure', a transition we can all but dream of in today's age. Laid-back, frivolous, decadent house tones blend effortlessly with super-swirly jazz motifs.

Review: Sometime Slum Village member turned soulful deep house hero Waajeed is the latest Motor City legend to compile a volume in Planet E's ongoing Detroit Love series. His eight selections are inspired and on-point, moving from the off-kilter MPC-house jazziness of Roddy Rod's "Overbite" and chunky, upbeat house business of 14kt's "We Out Chea", to the bass-heavy Motor City garage/broken beat fusion of Matthew Law's "Minimariddim" and the extra-percussive, underwater deepness of Damon Bell's incredible "Mermaid Blues". In between you'll find four other essential cuts, with Ladymonix's stomping, warehouse ready deep house bumper "WhoRU" standing out.

Review: After initially reserving much of his music for his own Tartan label, Wallace has been on plenty of fine sojourns to other top labels of late including CWPT's from Palms Trax, Studio Barnhus and Rhythm Section. Now he makes his biggest statement yet with a double album on Mule Musiq that draws on everything in his arsenal. His deft melodic touch and innocent synth work defines the first couple of clean and airy cuts while his knack for an unusual rhythm defines the loopy and hypnotic 'Midnight On The Mountain,' 'By The River' is a gorgeous deep house cut with eastern melodies and 'Bubbles' is pure dreaming material for zoned out sessions. A fine work from the talented Wallace.

Review: NDATL owner Kai Alce has been responsible for some of the most musically expansive deep house of recent years, so you'd expect this sneaky double-album of previously unheard revisions to be pretty darn hot. It is, of course, with Alce offering up sublime takes on tracks by modern greats Kamasi Washington and Gregory Porter. Check first his gently breezy and sun-kissed Latin house take on Washington's "Askim", before reveling in the hot-stepping jazz-funk/Afro-house fusion of Alce's revision of Porter's "On My Way To Harlem". Over on the second disc, Alce offers alternative instrumental and edited versions of these headline-grabbing remixes. The "Thundercat Dub" of "Askim" is particularly alluring, though we've also been enjoying the ten-minute, solo-heavy "Extended Instrumental" of "On My Way To Harlem". Superb.

Review: Wasili Ntuanoglu aka Duan Wasi is a German producer from Stuttgart, whose former credits include being a member of hip-hop group Massive Tone. Nowadays though, he has a focus on exploring other realms of music that merges classic elements of disco, funk and jazz with French Touch and lo-fi house. The result is his fourth LP titled Licious, featuring the smoky jazz bar loops of 'Glow', some sensual deep house in the form of 'Moonjam', through to the cinematic nu-jazz of 'DTPA' and the late night mood music of 'Cherry Cubes' with its sexy sax - plus many more.

Review: It sure has been a long time coming but finally Vince Watson is back with a new album that follows up his well regarded debut from some 20 odd years ago, Biologique, and sophomore effort Moments In Time. Another Moment In Time is a rich house exploration with a tendency towards the deep and always magical melodies. It's timeless and tasteful material that is all expertly arranged and executed from the gentle piano joys of 'Peace Of Mind' to the reflective and jazzy chords of 'Lost In The Deep'. One of the cuts, 'Rendezvous' has appeared in a different form on Carl Craig's Planet E but here gets a 'Finale' version that brings classic house drums with widescreen synth work and warm chord vamps.

Review: Truth Manifest Records release an LP by their very own head honchos here. Badriyyah Wazeerud Din and Malik Aston are the respective CEO and COO of the label, but don't let the necessary evil of corporate-speak distract you. The pair's main craft is putting a contemporary sheen on funk, combining the sound with elements of gospel, not to mention putting their back into competition-ousting vocal performances and swung harmonies. Theirs is an undeniably Detroit-endemic sound, sure to not just impress, but light soul-fires.

Review: Since first poking his head above the parapet in 2007, Warren "Wbeeza" Brown has delivered a regular stream of emotive, dancefloor-friendly deep house releases. Given this track record, it's a surprise to find that Expression of Love is only his second album (his debut, Void, dropped back in 2010). Predictably, it's a fine full-length, stocked full of woozy, soulful, jazz-flecked deep house jams. As usual, he manages to strike the perfect balance between warm, bass-driven dancefloor weightiness and hazy, dust encrusted jazziness. While this usually manifests itself in rolling, groovy 4/4 cuts, there are occasional trips into MPC style beat-making territory - a decision that gives Expression of Love a more rounded feel than many similar house LPs.

Review: Charles Webster's 2020 album Decision Time, his first for decades, was widely praised for the depth, soulfulness and densely atmospheric of its hazy and tactile sound. Those with long memories pointed out that Webster has form in this regard, with the legendary British deep house producer taking a similar approach with his 2001 solo debut album, Born on the 24th July. That album was overlooked at the time, so it's fabulous to see it finally get reissued on vinyl. Shot through with woozy, soft-focus, ultra-deep soul, trip-hop and gorgeous downtempo beats, the set is not only immaculately produced and full of inventive instrumentation, but also boasts some seriously inspired guest vocals. It's genuinely an overlooked classic that deserves any belated attention it finally receives.

Review: Anyone with at least a rudimentary knowledge of the history of UK dance music, and deep house in particular, will tell you that this album is a big deal. It's the first full-length in 19 years from Charles Webster, a producer whose atmospheric, smoky take on deep house and downtempo grooves has always been a cut above his UK contemporaries. The big question is this: is it any good? Predictably, it most certainly is. Featuring a wealth of guest vocalists (Sia, Shara Nelson and Terra Deva included), Decision Time sees Webster effortlessly blur the boundaries between smoky soul, trip-hop, jazz, future R&B, broken beat and house so deep it may take you a while to resurface. In a word: brilliant.

Review: The masterful Sven Weisemann returns to the album format with Inner Motions, his second long player of a storied career as a producer of supple, genteel house music. It's released, naturally, on the Mojuba label whose sound has been defined by Weisemann and compatriot Nick Sole, and offers an extensive demonstration of the Berlin based producer's capacity to combine heart wrenching musicality with the crisp dynamism needed for club play. Arriving in some typically luxuriant packaging from Mojuba, Inner Motions is apparently "inspired by electronic music's classic and timeless albums of the early and mid 90s" and its 12 tracks form part of a greater whole. As intoxicating a listening experience it is, Weisemann has still ensured some of the music here can be equally powerful out of the collective context with "Rejection" and "Evolver" notable highlights.

Review: Under the West Norwood Cassette Library alias, Bob Bhamra has consistently show himself to be one of the UK's most unique producers, perfecting a blend of music that pulls from jungle, house, breakbeat, dubstep and techno that has managed to consistently steer clear of the prevailing trends of UK dance music. The majority of Bhamra's own productions have surfaced through his own label though he has been known to flirt with other operations - TEAL and New Kanada for example - and it's through another label that the most substantial West Norwood Cassette Library transmission arrives. Kudos to Hypercolour for getting a grip of a whole 8 tracks of WNCL goodness for the appropriately titled 8 Track Cartridge! Described as a "double pack of gems and nuggets," this collection of archival cuts is a must for Bhamra completists, running the full gamut of his production range with the classic breaks of "Acid Jazz" and UK garage style of "Innervisions" brushing up against the cut up jazz of "Time Loops."

Review: During the early-to-mid 1980s, Washington D.C-based musician Richard Simms crafted his own leftfield, punk-minded take on electronic funk under the Wicked Witch alias. While built around popping electro drums and headline-grabbing synths, Simms' work was thoroughly experimental in outlook, and has subsequently become cult listening. This first plate of this excellent double-pack contains a freshly re-mastered version of one of his best cuts, "Under Your Spell", Simms' new re-make of the same track (it's even wilder, but also more melodic, interestingly), and two previously unreleased gems. Meanwhile, the second disc boasts a brilliantly heavy, floor-friendly, breakbeat-driven remix of "Take A Bite Of Brains" by DJ Slyngshot, and a thrillingly wonky, acid-driven interpretation of "In The Way Of WSB" by YYPYY.

Review: After impressing with a couple of floor-filling EPs on his own Church label and a throbbing 12" on Kerry Chandler's Madtech, Seb Wildblood has decided to go it alone. Here, he presents his debut album, Foreign Parts, on his freshly minted SW Recordings label. It's a surprisingly varied set, all told, with Wildblood melding a range of influences - dream house, ambient, German style tech-house chuggers, the synthesizer-heavy atmospheric grooves of Morgan Geist, and even the drowsy electronica of James Blake - to create ear-pleasing tracks that showcase the full breadth and depth of his talents. While there are some straightforward deep house cuts included - see "Moonlight" and "Mudir", for starters - it's Wildblood's more adventurous tracks that most impress.

Review: When assessing the work of any musician or producer, it's important to look for signs of artistic development. Happily, there are plenty on this latest full-length collection of cuts by Church chief (and fast rising producer) Seb Wildblood. Musically, it's far more expansive, considered and varied than some of his previous work, moving from gently sun-kissed, sax-laden deep house warmth (":~^") and Ron Trent style smoothness ("Plants"), to fireside-hot dream house loveliness ("Mmm"), via the languid downtempo headiness of 'Deptford Synths|. Throughout, there's a greater emphasis on organic, live-sounding percussion, pleasingly colourful synths, and the kind of drowsy chord progressions that some would describe as "Balearic" in tone.

Review: Seb Wildblood's back on his own all my thoughts label with another one of his classy new albums. This one again fuses dreamy sonic landscapes, lush deep house, downtempo and rich electronics while the artist explores "coming to terms with abandonment, and what that looks like when starting to build a future of your own." Three of the tunes are collaborations with Laraaji which help broaden the record's horizons even further into subtly touches of jazz, classical and indie, while Dial's Lawrence and Sweden's pop star Was also feature.

Review: Church founder Seb Wildblood may only be six years into his production career, but he already has an impressive slew of EPs and singles under his belt. "Sketches Of Transition", is the South London producer, DJ and label boss' long-awaited debut album and arguably his most musically expansive and on-point set to date. Largely warm, gentle, summery and sunrise-ready, it sees Wildblood drift between sumptuous Balearic grooves ("Twenty Eight"), sumptuous neo-soul ("Thought For Food"), liquid deep house ("Small Talk"), dusty-but-toasty workouts ("Bahn"), ultra-deep synth-pop (the Andras & Oscar style goodness of "Amelia") and impeccable ambient tracks capable of making the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end ("One For Malcolm").

Review: Surprisingly, this is Detroit house veteran Rick Wilhite's debut album. When you consider his length of service and gargantuan reputation in deep house circles his first releases slipped out in the early 1990s, after all it's unsurprising that the release of Analog Aquarium is considered something of an event. And rightly so; you'll struggle to find quite as good a collection of high grade Motor City house. Shuffling between loose, lazy Beatdown excursions (check the brilliant Theo Parrish/Osunlade collaboration "Blame It On The Boogie") and upbeat, drum-heavy deep house floor fillers ("Deep Horizon") via jazzy analogue dubscapes ("Muzic Gonna Save The World"), it's a predictably formidable set.

Every so often, a compilation comes along and delivers a snapshot of a city's underground music scene at a given moment in time. That's what compilers Rick Wilhite and Delano Smith have achieved with Parabellum Detroit, an expansive and predictably high-quality collection of cuts from some of the Motor City's finest producers. They naturally provide a couple of collaborative cuts of their own - the spacey, late-night techno hypnotism of '11 Minutes of Funk' and the intergalactic deep house drift of 'Neo Solaris', while there are also top-notch contributions from Javontte (the warm, soul-flecked deep house of 'Late Night Love'), Marcellus Pittman (beatdown chugger 'Everybody Party'), Gerald Mitchell AKA Soul Saver (the incredible 'Kaori'), the Moodymann Kenny Dixon Jr ( 'I'm Goin' Back') and Omar-S (a tidy Godson remix of 'VAT 69').
