Laseech - "Forbidden Estuary" (6:12)

Jay Sound - "Reflections Of Love" (feat Josefine) (6:33)
Review: Fusion Sequence is a new offshoot from the Mellophonia label that kicks off with a heavyweight release both literally - its 180g vinyl - and metaphorically. It features seven different artists offering up one track each on what is a widescreen exploration of fresh deep house. They are A Vision of Panorama, Eternal Love, Pool Boy, Wolfey, Laseech, Larry Quest and Jay Sound and between them everything from cuddly depths to more moody late-night deepness is covered on an EP that brings plenty of new perspectives. A fine inaugural 12", then.

Malik Alston - "Linwood (It's The Groove)" (8:01)
Painted Pictures - "Rise Up (Savannah)" (8:16)
Review: Malik Alston presents Painted Pictures: Air is a collection of long lost tracks. They were all crafted by Malik and his band Painted Pictures and take in jazz, soul and gospel as well as classic Motor City house sounds. There are tunes that dance on nimble keys, are accented with funky sax playing, riddled with lush keys and topped off with jazz vocalists that ooze style. Malik himself describes the album as "a combination of freedom, self awareness, and doing something different and new." He's not wrong, because these tunes are thrilling inventive and rewarding. To hear something as special as 'Almost On The One' on a dance floor can only be an unforgettable experience.

Axel Boman - "Mogadishu-Dubb" (11:37)
Shakarchi & Straneus - "ABBA-Dubb" (12:24)
Baba Stiltz - "ABBA-Dubb" (10:05)
Pedrodollar - "Love Me Now-Dubb" (9:28)
Review: Here's a treat for all those who've fallen in love with the eccentric, anything goes deep house antics of Sweden's Studio Barnhus label: a double-pack, nestled in a transparent plastic sleeve, featuring brand new dubs of vintage label material. Axel Boman kicks things off with a wonderfully rolling, tactile version of his jazz-flecked summertime bomb "Mogadishu", before Shakarchi and Straneus get all twinkling and Balearic with a decidedly touchy-feely take on "ABBA". Side three boasts another "ABBA-Dubb", this time from Baba Stiltz, who adds a little Latin flavour to proceedings before dropping into a colossal bassline, ragged electronics and glitchy rhythms. Finally, Pedrodollar's disco-influenced anthem "Love Me Now" is given the "Dubb" treatment, with particularly delicious results.

Review: If you have ever wondered what a German oompah band might sound like if they were doing low-slung and playful house music then check out 'Ofterschwang' which is one of Jurgen Paape's finest and silliest moments. Thankfully it also makes the long-time Kompakt servant's new Kompilation. It comes across four sides of vinyl and features some of his best bits from over the last 20 years. It is a wide-reaching and often leftfield collection with piano pieces, loopy disco gems, loved-up deep house sounds and steamy and seductive vocal minimal music in the case of 'So Wird Die Zeit Gemacht'. If nothing else this proves what an underrated and unique creative mind Paape really is.

Review: There was a sense of inevitability when Mark Barrott's International Feel label revealed plans to issue a new album from Ibizan legend Jose Padilla, the pair go together like Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. What makes So Many Colours particularly special is the fact Padilla got the chance to work with Barrott, Running Back affiliate Telephones, Australian producer Tornado Wallace and Jan 'Wolf Muller' Schulte, a list of artists that share a common approach to the idea and concept of being Balearic. As you would expect, copious amounts of fluttering beats, Spanish guitar strumming and deep throbbing arpeggiated basslines feature throughout So Many Colours and it's really a pleasure from beginning to end!

Fade The Light (feat Mavin)

A Wrong Chance
Review: While Live at Robert Johnson has released a plethora of mix CDs, compilations and singles, Focus For Infinity from Massimiliano Pagliara is actually the first long player to be put out on the imprint. The eight track vinyl version of the album meanders through downtempo ambience, housey drive, funky disco and intricate mimimal aspects over its course. Singing its own song and dancing to its own rhythm, the Italian producer explores analogue recordings and digital manipulation equally. Featuring guest vocalists on three of the tracks, it's an album to be listened to at home but also holds enough weight to move a dancefloor. The 2xLP showcases the full breadth of Pagliara's production nous, from the synth pop of"As The Night Breathes" to the low slung ambience of "I'll Never Be". The devious disco feel on "Harmonize" and the electro works on "In Order Of My Depth" are all displays of the producer's wide eyed approach. The second slab of wax is just as varied, with the deep and luscious keys on "Fade The Light" and more 80s synth musings on "After". Back to back with the clicks and cuts of "A Wrong Chance" it's a delightful mixed bag that touches on many spectrums within dance music and shows of Paglaria as a master of his trade. Essential.

Review: It's been a fair few years now since Italian producer Massimiliano Pagliara, famed for his analogue-heavy blends of bright synthesizer melodies, pop hooks, Chicago house grooves and robust acid lines, relocated from Italy to Berlin. It's obviously been a fruitful move, as this second full-length - his first dropped in 2011 - is mostly made up of collaborations with locally based producers. Norwegian exile Telephones lends a hand on the deliciously Balearic "Long Distance Call", with one-time NYC resident Lee Douglas recalling his TBD work with Justin Vandervolgen on the murky acid assault that is "Fall Again". Elsewhere, you'll find a range of moods, ranging from the enveloping power house of "Native Tribes of Jupiter" (a hook-up with Credit 00), to the dreamy synth-pop of "With One Another".

Review: Massimiliano Pagliara returns to Permanent Vacation with his fourth studio album 'See You In Paradise'. The Italian-German artist has his sights set on the sublime, enlisting the help of Snax, Fort Romeau, Init, Curses, Coloray and Vanessa to produce a 10-track album of smoked-out trip hop, house, nu-disco and downtempo. Unsettlingly unwilling to settle on any particular genre, the multifaceted nature of the project reflects Pagliara's many faces, not least as a DJ, producer and ballet dancer. For indeed, paradise isn't a world where we're boxed into one role or genre for the rest of our lives, but rather get to occupy as many as we see fit.

With eight captivating tracks, the long-player takes listeners on an immersive electronic journey. Mike Simonetti (Italians Do It Better) and Elizabeth Wight (Silver Hands) formed the outfit in 2015, gaining acclaim with their debut album. It showcases Wight's personal experiences and thoughts through her lyrics, accompanied by techno-infused melodies that lean towards rock influences. From dreamlike melodies to haunting productions, the album seamlessly blends electronica with pop touches.

Review: The latest album project from Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space label introduces Palmbomen II, a name that is perhaps not that familiar but one you will want to explore further after spending some time with this self-titled set. The current project of Netherlands-born, Los Angeles-based artist Kai Hugo, Palmbomen II is an endeavour that operates concurrent to Palmbomen. Whereas the latter, more established Palmbomen is based around live instrumentation, Hugo's second iteration focuses on music made from battered old hardware recorded to tape in his mother's attic. Adding to the intrigue, this album is heavily inspired by The X-Files with all the track titles named after characters from the cult TV show. It's just the sort of strange music we expect from Sweeney's label.

Review: There's a fair chance that you'll have missed Paranoid London's four singles to date; they were pressed in limited quantities, appeared in stores with no promotion, and quickly became must-have items for those obsessed with stripped back machine music and ragged acid house. Mercifully, the mysterious, no-holds-barred combo has decided to put out a double album containing much of this material, alongside a smattering of previously unheard cuts (including, most excitingly, a collaboration with Detroit legend DJ Genesis). The hard-to-find classics still sparkle - check the brilliantly sparse-but-heavy "Paris Dub 1" (with regular vocalist Paris Brightledge) and ragged "Transmission 5" (featuring a killer spoken vocal from Mutado Pintado) - while the new cuts are thankfully up to similarly high standard. Recommended.

Review: Before I Die is one of the most anticipated albums of the year. South Korean-born and now LA-based producer Park Hye Jin wrote, produced and performed the entire alum herself after building great momentum with her big How Can I EP and collabs with the likes of Clams Casino, Blood Orange and Nosaj Thing. It is a fresh and futuristic take on r&b, rap and hip hop. The opening track features Hye Jin's mantra-like vocals over melancholic piano keys and heavy bass to make for an alluring opener. There then more upbeat neo-soul jams like 'I Need You' and late night lullabies that veer into cloud rap such as 'Whatchu Doin Later.'

Review: It's been a long time, 22 years in fact, but finally Detroit champion Terence Parker makes his way on to Carl Craig's Planet E, and he does so in style. His Life On The Back 9 album is Parker's first full length since his 1998 LP, Strong Songs Album, and it sees the loved DJ and producer dominating more Rhodes, drum machines and synthesisers. He's create a cohesive album of classic American house music to appease the sweaty underground club ("Saved Forever" and "Pentecost" and "God he Is") to the Ibiza podiums ("Finally" and "Hiding In Your Love") to more chilled out environments ("The Friend I Lost" and "The Back 9"). Terrence Parker is back people!

Review: As the title suggests, Terrence's Parker's first album since 2014 was inspired by the two constants in the experienced producer's life: his Christian faith, and the ongoing struggles of Detroit. Musically, it's an unashamedly retro-futurist affair, with Parker largely delivering a range of feel good tunes that draw heavily on techno, gospel, New Jersey garage and Chicago house. Highlights are plentiful, from the warm sci-fi ambience of "The Sabbath" and rich, late '80s soulfulness of "Transition", to the bubbly techno shuffle of "Let's Go" and the rush-inducing piano house stomp that is "Don't Waste Another Minute". "Latter Rain", which is served up in two distinctive versions - the beat-less, string-drenched soul of the "Hearing The Rain Mix" and the classic US garage skip of the "After The Storm Mix" - is also superb.

Review: As part of Peacefrog's extensive 20th Anniversary celebrations, the record buying public is afforded the chance to rekindle their love for Theo Parrish's 1998 debut album First Floor. Spread across two double vinyl packs and priced at the sort of premium that anyone but Parrish obsessives would wince at, this clearly isn't for the casual vinyl purchaser. If however you fall under the category of Sound Signature completists then there will be little reason not to indulge in a release that luxuriously places one track per side of orange vinyl. This second part includes the timeless "JB's Edit", "Dark Patterns" and "Heal Yourself & Move".

Anansies Dance
Review: Parallel Dimensions was first released in 2000. Since then, this seminal LP has been reissued on numerous occasions, and it's easy to understand why. Much like the work of his Detroit compatriot, Moodymann, Parrish's early work helped to define the sound that we now refer to as 'Detroit house'. Through an intricate, soulful blend of the Motor City's infamous Motown funk sounds, Parallel Dimensions has been one of the albums to showcase a particular style of sampling, one which focusses on rhythmic concoctions and a palpable sense of the city's struggles. Don't get us wrong, this LP is very much playable on the dancefloor, but it can't possibly be reduced to being categorised as a 'dance' piece. Hip-hop, soul, funk and disco are important parts of the formula, and the house and techno nuances that do emanate from the tunes are strictly a filter for Parrish's more jazzy, musical tendencies. It's an album to get lost in, to enjoy in different scenarios, and one in which you'll find something new every time you approach it. Unmissable.

Review: Given that this is the first album from the great Theo Parrish since 2007, it's unsurprising interest in American Intelligence has rocketed over the course of the year as Sound Signature left a trail of hints. Happily, American Intelligence is a fine album; deep and woozy in parts, undeniably soulful, shot through with jazz influences and full to bursting with killer cuts. By now, everyone should know the brilliant "Footwork" single (arguably one of the records of 2014); soon, clubs will swing to the off-kilter dancefloor jazz of "Make No War", the 21st century broken house of the epic "Fallen Funk" and the decidedly odd - but brilliant - "Helmut Lampshade".

Review: Theo Parrish's masterful Sound Sculptures Vol 1 on triple LP format gets a timely repressing!! In total here there are 9 of the 27 tracks from the full double CD version but these still run the gamut of Theo's inimitable talents, from rough and tumble disco edits to saccharine soul, raw beatdown and leftfield esoterica. Be sure to check the Omar S- featuring "Synthetic Flemm" and long time Juno favourite "Flotation Device". If ever there was a selection of tracks that fully showcased the incredible breadth of production talent this man has, this is it. Not to be missed!

Review: Six new tracks from Detroit's deep house hero Theo Parrish mark his most significant release since the Wuddadji album three years ago, based around the 18 minute dancefloor epic 'Dance Alone' and the Afro-slanted 'Cleo's Theme', closing in on 11 minutes, alongside a host of other cuts of varying sizes and types. 'Real Deal', for instance, is a beatless instrumental interlude consisting of organ and Spanish guitar, while the title track is nearly all off-kilter beats. Parrish's approach, as ever, is soulful and funky enough to keep house fans on side, while also being so raw and stripped down that techno fans love it too and this has plenty of both.

Review: The inimitable Theo Parrish is in a class of one. His brand of music is impossible to categorise as it draws on so many unique sounds in so many unique ways. This new album is another spellbinding affair that takes scuffed up house rhythms and intertwines them with freeform percussive patterns and off-grid synths that get pulled apart then rebuilt before your very ears. It is experimental music with an improvised jazz mindset that can range from complex and dense tapestries like 'Radar Detector' to the more upbeat and playful 'Hennyweed Buckdance' via fucked up drum sketches like 'All Your Boys Are Biters.'

Review: Hard to define, rule breaking and game-changing producer Theo Parrish is back with another of his challenging and superlative albums. This one - which naturally arrives on his own Sound Signature label - is a collaboration with Maurissa Rose that true sooth the soul. It s full of his usual deadly grooves, shamanistic percussive layers and jazz energies with plenty of his famous luscious, meditative loops. Add in the smooth vocals of Rose - which come in the form of a soulful stream of consciousness - and you have yet another unique album from this true maverick of the form.

Review: Theo Parrish is a world-renowned name in the global Detroit house and techno game, and he's thrown a fascinating curveball as the latest entrant for the acclaimed DJ-Kicks series. Mr. Parrish has gone above and beyond the duties of most invitees - rather than just licensing tracks from his favourite artists and big-name-friends, he's asked his own community from Detroit to each produce their own mixable tracks, exclusively for the comp. What's more, these are hardly established names - they're organic connections to Parrish, not occupying the top layer of attention and recognition. Bits from H-Fusion, Jon Dixon, Donald Lee Roland II, Ian Fink and Raybone Jones all dominate this anarchic new deconstruction of the otherwise exclusivist mix series.

Review: While he may be known to a whole generation of DJs as one half of Tiger & Woods, Marco Passarani has been releasing futuristic, synth-heavy techno, electro and disco since the early 1990s. The Rome-based veteran's latest album, his first for three years, offers a vibrant, colourful and exquisitely produced musical trip powered forwards by a timeless trademark sound that subtly pays tribute to various styles of futuristic electronic music of the last four decades while sounding formidably timeless. It's a brilliantly listenable set all told, with our picks of a very strong bunch including the deep space ambient drift of 'Revelation', the deep instrumental synth-pop warmth of 'Theme From FFM', the dubby proto-house drive of 'Serenity Alley', the bleep-style weight of 'Equation' and the alien electro snap of 'Storm 90'.
