Red Gold & Green Remixes (Knoe1, Warehouse Preservation Society mixes)
Red Gold & Green (Knoe1 Afro Boogie mix) (4:54)
Red Gold & Green (Warehouse Preservation Society bonus Beat dub) (3:10)
Review: Mikal Asher hails from the legendary reggae group Morgan Heritage and he was behind plenty of top musical moments. His vocal work here comes on top of original off stems from disco don Gary Davis, but served up with all-new fire in the form of two mixes by DJ and producer Knoe1 and Warehouse Preservation Society. Knoe1 goes first and flips the OG into boogie-laced funky stepper with squelchy bass and lush melodies. Warehouse Preservation Society then go for a more heavy, percussive and dubbed-out house cut that has tropical sound effects and humid grooves to make you move. All this comes on a mega limited 7" that is sure to vanish in quick time.

Chocolate Star EP III (Warehouse Preservation Society, Knoe1, Ellxandra mixes)
Mikal Asher - "Red Gold & Green" (feat Gary Davis - Warehouse Preservation Society Full mix) (7:04)
Gary Davis - "Heartbeats" (Knoe1 Acidsoul mix) (6:26)
Gary Davis - "Skip & Scat" (Ellxandra mix) (6:06)
Review: This new 12" is a compendium piece to Chocolate Star's recent 7" release and it comes in the form of more glorious disco goodness from Gary Davis. It kicks off with Warehouse Preservation Society's Full Mix of 'Red Gold & Green' featuring Davis. It's a stomping disco viber with loose-limbed percussion and dubbed vocals. Dvais's 'Heartbeats' then gets flipped by Knoe1 into an Acidsoul mix that is laced up with grilling 303s under the happy, tooting disco arps and fresh vocals. Canada's Elxandra then reworks a lesser known Davis house cut 'Skip & Scat' into a driving bit of full flavour deepness. It's a limited press on these rare cuts so do not sleep.

Connor Mikami & Michi - "January Blues" (7:38)
Zigon (8:00)
Foolish Human (6:43)
None Of My Friends Are Normal (9:26)
Review: LA breaks maestro-aggregator IYKYK (If You Know You Know) deliver four new ones in the realm of compression-moulded PVC, not to be confused with the whopping sixteen-track digital compilation of the same name that they released back in 2020. Though it may feature many of the same names, the cream - namely the regular face that is Connor Mikami - rises to the top on this new one. Indeed, the self-effacing "if you know you know" mantra does well to complement the 2-steppy, shuffly, minimal, cosmic breaksteppage that abounds on this EP, on which you'll surely come down with the 'January Blues' before coming to the just realisation, 'None Of My Friends Are Normal'.

Light Years Away (7:03)
Peeking Through Clouds (7:06)
In Transmission (7:24)
Review: It's five up for the Space Dust crew and once again they have come through with some irresistible electro explorations. Miles is the man in control for this one and he hits an otherworldly stride right off the bat - 'Hole In The System' has supple acid weaving its way through drilling bass and loose electro drums. It's deep and cosmic where 'Light Years Away' is a more punchy and direct tech house cut with its gaze fixed on the future. 'Peeking Through Clouds' has a gorgeously blissed-out vibe with long synths leaving neon trails as the drums pump the vibe. 'In Transmission' shows yet another look with some naughty broken beats and eerie synth work.

Love Don't Pass Me By (instrumental) (8:05)
Review: Sound Signature welcome the return of Detroit hero Alton Miller for a classy single graced with the vocals of KB, with the thoughtful addition of an instrumental on the flip for those so minded. The result is some extremely classy, luxurious sounding deep house music with a touch of the lounge about it. A track that certainly plays its cards cautiously rather than banging them down on the table all at the same time, but one that will build the atmosphere of your early evening set up subtly but surely.

Bring Me Down

Bring Me Down (9:32)
Bring Me Down (Theo Parrish translation) (9:35)
Review: Here's something to get excited about: a cracking new cut from Detroit deep house legend Alton Miller, backed with a 'Sound Signature' translation from the equally revered Theo Parrish. Miller's version of "Bring Me Down", is something of a treat: a sparkling, starry deep house epic that's blessed with immaculate vocals from soul chanteuse Maurissa Rose. Parrish's translation is equally as stretched out and similarly enjoyable, but is far looser and dustier in feel, with warmer bass and beats that naturally tend towards the jazzier. It's naturally more in keeping with Parrish's work than Miller's, but retains enough of the latter's touches to be counted as a fine remix.

Impilo (6:18)
Review: Spot Lite is a leading creative space, art gallery and club in Detroit that now branches out with its new label. Who better to step up with the music than the city's legendary Alton Miller, a master of deep house. As always he radiates heartwarming sounds from the off with 'Remember Who You Are' bringing a big and infectious bassline, rich keys and lush vocals from Nina. On the reverse is a cultured instrumental along with another deep and dynamic cut, 'Impilo.' Both are timeless and mark a great start to this new label, not least as they come on deep purple coloured vinyl.

I Have A Dream (9:01)
Unfinished Poem (7:02)
Review: Milq's third 12" is another quiet triumph from whoever is behind the label and the production alias. There are just two tunes here, each given one side each, and both deserving of that. 'I Have A Dream' opens up with a clipped and metallic drum line that is as silky as tech house gets. Over the top are sensuous vocal mutterings and some tender minor piano chords that will make for perfect early evening grooving. There is more party to the flip side tune 'Unfinished Poem' with its garage-tinned drum shuffles, acid lines and more expressive vocals all amping the floor.

Love's Gonna Get You (Hugo LX Underwater mix) (6:32)
Love's Gonna Get You (Art Of Tones remix) (6:34)
Love's Gonna Get You (main mix) (6:16)
Review: Astonishingly, a decade has now passed since Timothee Milton's last significant single - a digital-only affair on Moodmusic called 'Back In Time'. This 12", featuring the mighty vocal talents of Dome Records soulstress Angela Johnson, is therefore long overdue. Milton's 'Main Mix' (B2) is a nostalgic, retro-futurist chunk of vocal house - think driving drums, incessant minor key melodies, early morning synth riffs, organ bass and a typically inspired lead vocal from Johnson. The accompanying remix package is unsurprisingly strong, too. On the A-side 'Underwater Mix', Hugo LX adds Johnson's wonderful vocal to a backing track rich in undulating acid bass, bouncy, Afro-house-influenced beats, King Britt chords and woozy synth sounds. Art of Tones version, meanwhile, is a looser and more organic-sounding affair that takes cues from disco and gospel house.

That Other Thing (8:00)
Review: Ever the hotbed for minimal techno, Romania has recently turned out this fresh new label to showcase exactly that. MINIMAL X arrives with a second 12" this New Year and it comes from the eponymous producer. 'Drive Anywhere' has lovely liquid rhythms and free flowing synths that weave in and out as bass brings some texture down low. 'Swaghili' has a lightness of touch and celestial sense of machine soul that oozes class while 'That Other Thing' flips the script with a more playful and loopy sound that samples The Fugues and brings the party.

I Think You Worth It (3:20)
Review: Mira Lo has been making waves in her native France for some time, with a trademark production style that effortlessly blurs the boundaries between squelchy, synth-heavy nu-disco, deep house and the classy end of 21st century synth-pop (think Junior Boys). There's plenty to admire on her first EP for Pont Neuf. Check first the house tempo synth-pop deepness of 'Sparks', before immersing yourself in the pitched-up beats, mid-80s video game melodies and slipped r&b vocals of 'Away From You'. Elsewhere, Lou Martini provides lead vocals on the kaleidoscopic nu-disco squelch of 'My Best Memory', 'I Think You Worth It' is a synth strings-laden analogue house workout, and 'Hope' is a slap bass-propelled trip through hybrid deep nu-disco/boogie-house territory.

Review: Few labels have as unique a house sound as Ka Alce's Atlanta imprint NDATL. It is deep, smoky, warm and with jazzy chords and soulful vocals that are all rooted in Black music. Miranda Nicole is next up with a new single that comes with some superb remixes. DJ Beloved's BPM mix is a supple roller that lets the vocal take centre stage. As well as an instrumental is the gorgeous original with its loungey chords and plaintive melodies. On the flip is a more driving but just as deliciously musical Jihad Muhammad Bang The Drum mix plus a final dub. Exquisite.

Lakeshore Commission - "In 2 The Light" (feat Bluey - Dave Lee Mind Travel mix) (7:40)

Review: Z Records' ongoing 'Attack The Dancefloor 'series of compilation style vinyl EPs has long been a reliable source of disco-fired excellence, and this 21st edition is another high-quality affair. We're first treated to a superb Jimpster revision of recent Mistura single 'Want Me Back', where Jemini's spoken word vocal, jazzy keys and spacey synth sounds rise above loose-limbed deep house beats and wiggly TB-303 lines, before Birdee drops a genuinely joyous, organic-sounding disco-house take on 1991 classic 'Do What You Feel' (now credited to Joey Montenegro, rather than his now retired Joey Negro alias). Elsewhere, Lee's own rework of Lakeshore Commission's Bluey collaboration 'In The Light' is a smooth, soulful, string-drenched delight and the veteran producer's 'Destination Boogie' tweak of Destiny II's 'Play To Win' is a revivalist '80s electrofunk delight.

Review: Woody McBride and Dave Stevens worked together as Modal back in the mid-90s. Hardcore diggers have been banging their beats for a while but they're not that easy to find so thankfully the Sounds label reissues this collection go thumpers from 1997. It is a hefty double back of raw but soulful beats with rough edges, sharp hits and brilliantly unpolished drums. 'Quadruple Take' is a real sweatathon, 'Carnivalesque' brings the fun with rolling boogie-woogie pianos and further highlights included the silky and spaced out tech of 'Beautiful Music'.

Now the remixes gets reissued to follow up, leading in with some Mariana trench depth charge gear from Roy Davis and DJ Skull. The Terry Mullan mix is a springy, 909 techno workout, while the Boom Box mix takes a lighter, drum machine jazz approach. There are so many old-school heroes involved here - Hyperactive, DJ Slip, Mystic Bill - but then what else would you expect from someone as invested in the scene and community as Woody McBride?

Review: As you will likely know if you are reading this, Swedish label Studio Barnhus never releases anything predictable or traditional. It unearths producers who blend familiar sounds in unfamiliar ways and always bring some leftfield charm to their grooves. Enter Off & Train who here bring plenty of dreamy charm to their deep and scuffed up house opener 'Ewok'. 'Sunday' has lovely innocent melodies unfurling way up over some dusty drum breaks, 'Polestar 2' is a more chunky cut for sweatier moments but still retains a naive melodic air and closer 'Milpool' (Ode To Karl) brings squelchy space-jam vibes to a dreamy house music closer.

Cloudride (6:00)
Review: Given her South Korean roots, it's perhaps unsurprising that Peggy Gou has chosen to give a platform to Mogwaa, a producer who has long been a fixture on the South-East Asian country's electronic music scene. His debut EP for Gudu is genuinely impressive, offering synth-heavy, mid-tempo takes on house and nu-disco awash with colourful melodies and sun-kissed chords. Opener 'From Above' is a bubbly, energy-packed affair that gathers momentum throughout, while 'Spacial Bliss' cannily combines live drums and guitars with sparkling washes of sound, cascading melodies and a deliciously tactile bassline. Over on side B, 'Fizz' sees Mogwaa add synthesized Gayageum melodies to a punchy electro beat, before 'Cloudride' rounds things off via turn-of-the-90s Italian deep house sonics and more gorgeous, life-affirming lead lines.

Review: Klasse Wrecks has started a new catalogue naming convention for this Boy EP from Mogwaa which suggests it might be the start of a new series. Either way it's defined by an epic, side-long title cut that is a real house and techno fusion. It has the soulful pads of house but the drive of techno drums, with pitched-up hardcore vocals over the top and a bright, screwy acid line tearing up the middle. It's a beautiful collision of party-ready sounds. After that 14-plus minute epic is a half length VIP mix that distils everything into a more potent and direct track.

Review: The Phonogramme label is a real stamp of house quality, whether serving up deep, French or garage-tinged. This new 12" from Lucas Monet does a bit of all that and more. 'Low Gravity' (feat Dusty Fingers - Deeper dub is a classic New Jersey sound with neon chords and Kerri Chandler kicks. 'Losing You' (Paradise mix) has a more optimistic and upbeat feel with organ stabs and finger clicks and 'Deep In The Blue' (937 club mix) has a little more jack and swing to it. 'Music' (UKG Private mix) shuts down with an irresistible old school groove full of love.

Review: French artist and Recit De Voyage label owner Molly makes a move to the Stolar imprint here run by Philipp Priebe. Her On The Road Again EP is as smooth as deep hose gets, certainly on the opening title track. The classic drums are paddy and frayed around the edges, the analogue percussion soft-edged and the chords dreamy and smeared. 'Infinity Love' is no less cuddly, but a little more driven with balmy pads up top smooth the whole groove. A pad laced Lawrence remix reminds us why the Smallville man was so hyped from the off while an ambient mix soundtracks sunrise in a summer forest and a second Lawrence remix is delightfully dubby.

Penetration
Review: Digging back for one of the earlier Mood II Swing archive jams from 1992, the Slow To Speak stable continue their canny reissue series in fine style, taking the two most significant tracks from the Wall Of Sound EP and spreading them out over a whole side of vinyl each. "I Need Your Love (Right Now)" is vintage New York house music, tripped out and loopy just as much as it is funky and soulful. The keys and vocal rips can't be argued with, while the beat is a prime slice of early shuffle, and there's no let up on "Penetration" either. Taking a light tone with the snazzy chord stabs, Ciafone and Springsteen nailed it here as much as they would come to throughout the rest of the 90s.

Last time we saw this it was on a considerably grubbier bootleg and featuring only the two mixes of "Move Me"- which are obviously the bees-knees in house music and probably as pioneering as the Chicago generation before them (that bassline on the original mix is simply irresistible!) - while this time you also get "Call Me" and "Function", two dusty-as-hell floor swipers that'll get anybody swinging from side to side with the right mood...
