Review: You should know by now that Plastik People is the go-to spot for the most upfront garage house done in a classic style, and they're spelling it out good and proper with The Sound Of Garage House. Marc Cotterell leads the way with the jazzy vibes and deliciously liquid chords of "Those Days" before Ed The Spread brings a nagging shuffle and sharp string stabs to hard-stepping bumper "The Bauhaus Movement". Grant Nelson keeps things tuff with the natty piano hooks and diva slices of "Move Close" while Rocket Dubz ups the funk to 11 for hands in the air party starter "Dirty Bath".

  2. Smiling Into Eternity (6:45)
  3. Rymd01 (6:20)
Review: The Swedish deep house duo of Alexander Berg (Dorisburg) and Nils Krogh (Arkajo) aka Genius Of Time are back outside of their established Aniara imprint for the second time on Running Back since 2014's Juno Jam EP. It has been a long time between drinks, with Krogh pursuing some great solo stuff as Arkajo and Berg performing in Sebastian Mullaert's Circle Of Live. This terrific new EP features the bittersweet "Peace Bird" that follows through with warm Rhodes keys, woody percussion and an all-round lo-slung swagger. The spacey and understated "Smiling Into Eternity" follows through on the B side, followed by the reduced and emotive disco of "Rymd01". Great stuff once again by the Gothenburg-based duo.

  3. Your Love (feat Princess Precious) (4:41)
  4. Your Love (feat Princess Precious - Sports mix) (4:41)
Review: Girls of the Internet producer Tom Kerridge has been on fire of late, following a terrific outing on Ramp Recordings with a superb double-pack of lo-fi deep house and skewed two-step sing-alongs. This tidy club-focused EP is rather good, too. The A-side boasts two versions of "U Already Know", a fuzzy slice of analogue-rich lo-fi deep house that will have the hairs on the back of your neck standing to attention. Of the two, it's the 12" disco mix, featuring the honeyed vocals of Jitwam, which really floats our boat. Over on the flip it's all about "Your Love", a chunk of skewed, out-there U.S garage featuring suitably weird but attractive vocals from Princess Precious. The alternative "Sports Mix", a heavy but stripped back, bassline-driven hip-house affair, is arguably even better.

  1. Redrum (5:55)
  2. BHD (6:49)
  3. Redrum (Ron Basejam remix) (5:14)
  4. Drumble (5:46)
Review: Groovy, beguiling and hypnotic- Tusk Wax is a label where anything can happen while still boasting coherency throughout its catalogue. If that sounds vague that's the point; elements of house, funk, jazz, acid and tech never far from the mixing desk. This, the imprint's 30th outing, is another limited press continuing in that fine form thanks to the always-solid Loz Goddard, formerly of Dirt Crew. One made for summertime sessions, intriguingly it could score late night hallucinatory forest raves or sun-drenched terrace parties. It just depends which cut you go for. 'Redrum' is a low-lying cosmic treat, repetitive female vocals ensuring dancefloor potential contrasting the lackadaisical melodies. 'BHD' takes us down an expanding disco wormhole, Ron Basejam's remix of 'Redrum' places the emphasis on live bass and sass, a perfect precursor to the contemporary funk of 'Drumble'.

  2. Freudenthaler - "Bel Air" (6:25)
  3. G. Markus - "Cherchez Le G" (6:58)
  4. Reece Johnson - "Montreux" (5:48)
Review: Sheffield's Moment Cinetique has laid down a distinctive MO within the deep house field, favouring dusty, sample-heavy rollers from a close circle of artists. On this various artists release they call on friends new and old, leading in with Felipe Gordon's rolling and tumbling "Rio" which is as crooked as it is funky. Label mainstay Freudenthaler has some choice jazz licks strapped to an irresistible beat and wandering bassline on "Bel Air", while G. Markus channels a touch of Moodymann vibes on the looped up, feverish "Cherchez Le G". Reece Johnson takes things smooth and smoky on the top end of "Montreux", but flips it with a gritty kick drum to lend the track some rugged weight for the dance.

  1. Starry Night (6:40)
  2. Han Pan (6:42)
Review: Given her runaway success in recent years, it was almost inevitable that Peggy Gou would launch her own record label sooner or later. Wisely, she's chosen to kickstart said imprint - the freshly minted Gudu Records - with her first EP of fresh material for over 12 months. A-side "Starry Night" is an unashamedly positive and life-affirming affair, with Gou placing bouncy piano riffs, sultry South Korean and English vocals and Boyd Jarvis/Paul Simpson style synth-bass atop a snappy, late '80s style house rhythm. There's a similarly retro-futurist feel to the equally loved-up "Han Pan", where Gou's attractive vocals once again catch the ear alongside heavy analogue bass, chiming synth lines and Kwaito influenced drums.

  1. Mountain Of Madness (6:48)
  2. Rolling 2 Joints (Sativa mix) (5:36)
Review: Juan Ramos and Luca Trentini AKA Trent have had a couple of prior outings as Greenvision, especially impressing with their excellent 12" on ESP Institute last year. Now they're back to where it all began, Cocktail d'Amore, with the lurid, pysched out freakery of "Mountain Of Madness". It's a truly devilish track, coming on heavy like a dangerous incantation, which is of course a good thing. On the flip, things stay firmly out on the wild frontier with the Sativa mix of "Rolling 2 Joints". The message is clear - this is music to lose your mind to, and you'll have a thoroughly wonderful time doing it.

Review: Courtesy Of Balance is back right in time for kick your summer off in style by welcoming fellow French producer Gunnter, owner of Normandy Records. All three tracks have got that classic quality to them that'll please those deep and tech house afficionados. Naturally influenced by the golden age of the late 90's uk sound, Gunnter has digested it down to three to-the-point weapons, all endowed with the 3 sacred elements of proper tech house : jacking beats, wonky basslines and deep chords. The proof's in the pudding... drop the needle on the rekkid !

Review: Next up on the ever-excellent Oscillat is "Spellbound" by the supremely talented Matthew Dekay. This moving deep house jam uses a few key elements to make a soul-stirring confection for truly spine-tingling moments in the middle of the dance. From the slithers of vocal to the insistent key riff that bounces throughout, this is an outstanding slice of contemporary house music loaded with feeling. Mandar then take the original and inject it with a feisty peak time energy shot through with a little trancey magic and an acidic undertone. It's not a raging beast but rather an energizing workout for the brain and the body - just what you need in the midst of a marathon.

They offer another various artists EP for deeper moments for the club, or your listening pleasure, by four of the country's most promising artists. Alexander Chebankov aka Sunner Soul is in a lo-slung and sunkissed mood on the irresistible nu-disco jam "Shadows In The Garden", newcomer Lipski provides the EP's highlight on the ultra-deep and emotive late night groove "Beetham Tower" and Guydee revisits the vibe of classic early '90s deep house (think Jazzanova or Swag) on "Time Is Gone".

Review: REPRESS ALERT: The modern master of subliminal deep house is back with a new album. Galcher Lustwerk has rightly earned a sterling reputation for his understated, always entrancing approach to 4/4 grooves. After last year's Dark Bliss LP and recent diversions via his Road Hog alias, he's offering up eight heavy-lidded cuts to suit the smokers as much as the dancers. Get blissed out in the sax-licked delights of skits like "Blue Lotus" or lock into the mellow raps and steady-ticking rhythms of "See You When I See You" - 200% Galcher goes down smooth from start to finish, like all good albums should.

Review: We've been impressed by the previous output from soul-loving, lo-fi deep house songsmith Tom Kerridge's Girls of the Internet project, so it's heartening to find that this double 12" boasts his strongest collection of cuts to date. Kerridge sets his stall out via the deep, dubby and seriously seductive shuffle of "Patience", before vocalist Linda Muriel guests on the punchy two-step slickness of "Humble". "Take Back" and "Hello Judy" both boast sultry male vocals, warm bass guitar and lo-fi club beats, while "U Changed" is a slinky, skewed UK garage workout. Elsewhere, "Sun Comes Up" is a sunrise-ready chunk of two-step warmth, "Still" is a string-laden deep house treat and closer "What U Done 4 Me?" is lo-fi deep house-soul straight from the top drawer.

Review: South Korean star Peggy Gou continues her seemingly unstoppable rise by serving up her first ever DJ mix CD. It's a contribution to one of the longest running series in the business, DJ Kicks, and she's used the opportunity to showcase the depth and variety of the music in her crates. Beginning with the classic early '90s ambient of Spacetime Continuum, Gou flits between humid, mid-tempo Balearic house (her own "Hungboo"), acid-fired downtempo electronica, throbbing 1990 peak-time anthems (Weatherall's ace but largely forgotten remix of Sly & Lovechild), hypnotic techno minimalism, main room throb-jobs (Hiver), pulsating electro, classic breakbeat hardcore, post-dubstep, dark tribal drum jams and sunrise ready Motor City brilliance (Deniro).
