KALI & Senncoria - "Dragon Shape" (4:11)
LSN - "Shotta Kush" (4:11)
Substance & Youngsta - "Nug" (3:46)
Cimm - "Glider" (5:22)
Review: The second chapter of Sentry's compilation series furthers the notoriety of its lauded artist congregation, welcoming plenty of fresh faces to the revered artist roster. A four-track vinyl sampler, Syndicate Part 2 takes (as the label best said themselves) 'bass music enthusiasts for an extensive and stylistically varied ride'. KALI & Senncoria take dubstep into world music realms on 'Dragon Shape', LSN bring UK bass music forward on the urban grit of 'Shotta Kush', Substance teams up with label head honcho Youngsta on the blunted late night grime experiment 'Nug', and on what was probably our favourite track on here, Cimm presents a unique take on dub techno with the cavernous and glacial 'Glider'.

Arcane (12")

Kryptic Minds & Youngsta - "Arcane"
Kryptic Minds - "Can't Sleep" (feat Alys Be - Scuba remix)
Review: Black Box do the smart thing and roll out "Arcane", one of the highlights of Can't Sleep, their second album length deviation into dubstep, for the vinyl release it so rightly deserves. Produced in sync with Rinse stalwart Youngsta, "Arcane" positively ripples with 808 menace, with jagged subs constantly growling and threatening to bite amidst a backdrop of eerily reverberant sonics that tunnel deep into your thoughts. Equally impressive is the B Side where Hotflush boss Paul Rose dons his Scuba moniker to endear "Can't Sleep" with some of his trademark mid range growl over a increasingly menacing 4/4 thump.

LX One & Youngsta - "Bloodshot" (4:11)
LX One - "Seeking" (4:11)
Review: LX One fires up his Vantage machine for another joy ride around the town. As we've come to expect from the MC-turned-premiership producer, it's all about the drama and tension. 'Bloodshot' sees him teaming up with OG Youngsta for a haunted house of a jam. Dusty organs, rusty textures. Meanwhile on the B 'Seeking' goes for the jugular with its fierce symphonic stabs and end-of-the-world swagger. Heavyweight.

Responsibility
No Cure
Review: A simple exercise in dubstep mathematics here; take Youngsta, add some LX One, release the results on Tempa and stand back and watch the dancefloor devastation! Youngsta really needs no introduction, and on this Responsibility 12" the Rinse FM stalwart makes a welcome return to Tempa, teaming up with LX One (also known as Joker D) on two heavy weight rollers primed for the halfstep lovers out there. Both the title track and B Side accompaniment "No Cure" adhere to Tempa's purist direction; the minimal "Responsibility" emerges from the ether, drops a quick vocal sample then gets on with the business of pushing out a hulking robotic bassline over snapping metallic drum programming. On the flip, "No Cure" plunges into sub heavy terrain, forgoing the emphasis on crushing bassweight of it's A Side precursor for a focus on establishing atmosphere.

Systematic Error EP
Cat: CRUCIAL 027. Rel: 11 Feb 20
Systematic Error (4:42)
Hello (4:12)
Iridescence (4:13)
Review: Sleeper and Youngsta together on three concrete jams; you already know how heavy these are going to be. "Systematic Error" takes the lead with a sinister acid narrative that bubbles ominously before the bleeps rise to an ultimate euphoric stand off. "Hello" takes things to a much deeper, stripped back playground giving the ricocheting radar and big belly bass fills stacks of room to frolic. Finally "Iridescence" brings in the synths and brass for an emotional finale. Crucial and powerful pieces of work from two scene dons once again living up to their name.

Split Minds
Cat: TEMPA 111. Rel: 08 Nov 16
Split Minds (4:42)
Redshift (4:13)
Review: Scene sergeant Youngsta returns with his first full release in years. Tag-teaming with rising producer Cimm, the vibe is deep, roomy and constructed with a stately, unhurried alien funk. Every element considered and fine-tuned, both tracks take us deep into a meditative mindset without ever pressing the snooze button: "Split Minds" rolls with bass tones so warm they almost bounce while "Redshift" takes us into an even dubbier pasture with some great attention paid to the sporadic rhythm elements. Beautiful.

War Cry
Review: Having showcased their exemplary collaboration abilities way back in 2010 with "Masai Mara", Youngsta and Seven collide once again for two more hard-hitting doom steppers. "Architects" is out-and-out tribal science, all concrete percussion and ominous drones designed with precise attention to detail you'd expect from its professional namesake. "War Cry" is a minimal masterpiece where the bass preaches a sermon of pure gloom while a shimmering arpeggio suggests light at the end of the tunnel. Step towards it today.
