Review: Classical violinist / low-end-murker Opus returns to his White Peach family with this four track treat after a few exemplary outings on the likes of Chestplate and Simply Deep. "This Damn Feeling" takes the lead and sets the mood with drama. Its big boom bass and tight spine sitar twangs are followed by a full menu of ideas and explorations. "Day & Age" wriggles with that high end harmonic we all fell in love with in 2008 before twinkling arpeggios bring on the goosebumps like you'd never believe. Flip for more goodies... "Ghost" takes us to the Upside Down with its toxic waste bass and icy vocal shots before "Renegade" concludes the EP on a dank, sludgy one. This damn EP!
Review: He's back... Riding on the crest of his near-majestic collaboration with Subscape for UKF's UKF10 series this spring The Others flips the switch once again with two dark designs on the consistently on-point Sentry. Revealing much ruff corners of his underbelly, we kick off with "Shaolin", a track that's powered by agruff sandpaper funk bassline and warped, skewed Japanese strings. It's followed by "Feedback" where every shade of The Others we love is whipped up in a blender; an epic intro, a gritty bassline, off-beat funk and sudden shards of light breaking through as the track progresses. After a few release-light years, it seems The Others has really and truly got the bug again. More please.
Review: Fine far-out beat magic from LA's Oxossi as he builds on a spotless body of work on labels such as Banana Stand, Crucial and Deep Dark & Dangerous with this Subaltern debut. Three tracks, three unique tales. "Sama" weaves purple synth sweeps with mournful eastern pipes in a warm and woozy way while "Saut Dans Le Vide" brings in the pianos to effect. The final chapter goes into max-saturated bleep bliss overdrive. Imagine joyriding an SR Nova on a rainbow under the influence. Buckle up.
Review: Giddy-up mate, Oxossi's back on the horse and he's trotting up a stink some place near you... If you're lucky to grab one of these 300 copies. "Blackhorse" takes the lead with some dark, gritty anxious rave moods before the organs, rumbling subs and weeping synth leads sweep you off to the heavens on "End Of Your Light". Finally "Ronin" polishes its Japanese steel, chopping up a cropper for the finale, galloping hooves galore. Top banana.

Review: Fresh from releasing the Birthmark and Eusebeia album, Bristol's Earthtrax returns with some old friends. Obeah is at the steering wheel once again, tagging in two exceptional MCs. Man like Trimetheus dissects the craft and graft of badmanism on the lead track; "Dead In This Ting" lives up to its name as his rifles out shots with clarity and venom. "Bad From Mi Born" sees him re-linking with Rider Shafique. Picking up where they left us on the label in 2018 with "Fix Up", it's another smoky, midnight stepper. And this time it comes courtesy of a classic jungle mix from Eusebeia. Get deaded.
Review: There seems to be a bit of a narrative here on Phrex's second Dubtopia release. Previously, Version bossman Orson had given us "Life Gamble". Now he's on his "Last Chance", and it's every bit as foreboding as you'd expect the final roll of the dice to be - menacing, pensive and lined with venomous acid. Bern's Phrex is experiencing a similar situation; while he previously told us about "Vectors In The Sky", he's now warning us of "Colliding Clouds" to the tune of quivering, tightly weaved top lines, trippy dub echoes and loose soft drums underpinned by a voluptuous rolling sub groove.
