Much like its wonderful predecessor 'Video Center / Galactic Alliance', this one hard-drives through four crude but shocking sonic Tron-terrains, privileging plucky 8-bit hooks and space-age transitions, whether on the offbeat synth donks of lead track 'Harold' or hard 'pressed disjoint of 'Pit Box Mens'. Review: If you've not seen Gabrielle Provaas' innovative and heartfelt documentary Onzinchtbaar we implore you to do so. The film hones in on 'invisible heroes' responsible for keeping a country clean on a day-to-day basis. From hospitals to streets, schools to offices, this is the workforce that ensures the cogs can move and many more people can get stuff done. So what exactly does that sound like when Fatima Yamaha is drafted for the score? Opening on 'Het Begrijpt Je' might suggest the kind of patient music that accentuates attention to detail. That's certainly true at times, like the staggeringly beautiful piano number 'Hooikoorts' or the drones and twinkles of 'Hotel Haast'. But then we also have more hyperactive moments, and noises to accompany those - 'Veeg Life' and its bouncy, club-ready elec-tech, 'Kissey's leftfield deep house, 'Schiet Zo In Je Rug' and its strange, fidgety epic-ness.

Review: Ostensibly, Fred Und Luna are a German duo specialising in Krautrock and minimalism-inspired electronica, but deeper research shows they're are actually two mannequins who serve as muse for musician, poet and photo/video maker Rainer Buchmuller. Evidently an artist who loves to toy with convention, Buchmuller's idiosyncrasy extends to his music, not just imagecraft: this album, Im Funfminutentakt, is a utilitarian concept album, consisting of eight tracks that are all around five minutes long, hence the title. Burgeoning, awestruck and playful synth tropes extend across just eight tracks, demonstrating an ironic flair and love for the electro-krautrock of old.

Review: Given that Fred Ventura has been a mainstay of the Milan electronic underground since the late 1970s, we can't think of anyone better to curate a compilation of 'modern Italo-disco, synth-pop and house' from the Italian city's celebrated scene. Naturally, there are a couple of well-known names present - see the excellent contributions from Italoconnection and Italo-house veteran S-Tone Inc - but the majority of material comes from talented but lesser-known artists. It's these tracks that really set the pulse racing, particularly the Mono Han remix 2 version of Through Twelve's 'This Love' (a cheery deep synth-pop number with Ventura on vocals), the Patrick Cowley-esque thrills of Soul Boy ('B-Side') and the synth-wave swell of 'Il Vuoto' by Livio Fogli.

Review: French 79 has just completed a tour with over 100 dates, and fresh off the back of it unveils his third studio album. The headline is that its synths were recorded at Jean-Michel Jarre's studio in Paris which is enough to get any electronica fan excited. The album itself is a mix of everything from swirling electronic opuses to pop gems, flamboyant tracks and liberating harmonies. There are moments of introspection too, all of which showcase French 79's wide range of talents as a songwriter as well as a producer. This is a powerful and emotive album from front to back.

Review: Front 242 are usually credited as early pioneers of EBM (Electronic Body Music), a somewhat clunky and retroactive genre term to describe a chugging style of dance music that emerged from the industrial, new wave and synthpunk crazes of the early 1980s. However, the Belgian electronic music group didn't call it that at the time; indeed, many contemporaries of theirs preferred the term 'sequencer music'. Their debut album Tyranny For You epitomises that innocence, preferring instead to liken their exploration of new sonic frontiers to a condemnation of war. And despite channelling a controversially militaristic, some-say fascist image in their live shows, the onward march of this album is in fact a deep criticism of the industrial backbone of ultranationalist conflict, represented in its ironic acid raindowns and explosive IED snares.
